  • Torque fluctuation of an engine and angular velocity variation of a propeller shaft are the main excitation sources in the vehicle driveline. This paper presents brief mechanism of these excitation sources. Equivalent models of these systems are construced to simulate the excitation source. The computer simulation was carried out by ARLA Simul v 6.7 and ARLA-Simstat v 2.3. Results of the simulations show the characteristics of torsional excitation source of the driveline. Experimental setups for engine system and propeller shaft system are constructed with component of the vehicle. Torque fluctuation of the flywheel and angular velocity of the propeller shaft were measured from this experimental setups. Experimental results are compared with simulation results. The results from experimental analysis agree with those from theoretical results.

  • In this paper, a novel stator hybrid excited doubly salient permanent magnet (SHEDS-PM) brushless machine with a special magnetic bridge is proposed for the first time. The originality of this machine is purposely to add a magnetic bridge in shunt with each PM pole, which not only maintains the stator lamination in its entireness, but also amplifies the effect of DC field flux on PM flux. An equivalent magnetic circuit is presented to clarify the novelty. Based on the 2-D finite element analysis, the static characteristics of the SHEDS-PM machine, namely phase flux linkage, back-EMF, cogging torque, winding inductance and static torque are deduced. The corresponding results on a prototype machine illustrate that the proposed machine is promising for application to electric vehicles.

  • Single phase induction motor is directly used usual source, it can be a source of an appliance such as mechanical fan, refrigerator, washing machine, etc. Especially capacitor-run single phase induction motor is suitable to make more inexpensive and high efficient products because it is more high efficiency, and good to start than other single phase induction motors. Generally, voltage and current of capacitor-run single phase induction motor transfer to the part of positive phase and negative phase based on two motor theory. In this paper, we simulate the torque characteristics to capacitance variation from single phase induction motor's equivalent circuit. Through the test using the real motor, we compare and investigate the maximum torque of run state related with capacitance and the adequacy of the converted model.

  • In onshore and offshore plant engineering, a broad use of pipe system have been achieved and accordingly related technologies has been developed especially in the field of flow control valves. The aim of this study is to suggest the quadruple offset butterfly valve for bi-directional applications which show equivalent operating torque characteristics of the triple offset butterfly valve. Seat design parameters for the quadruple offset butterfly valve are determined by the proposed method utilizing both ANOVA (analysis of variance) and the orthogonal array. Through additive model considering the effect of design parameters on seating torque, mean estimation is performed and thus its optimization results are verified by design of experiment results. The insight obtained from the present study is beneficial for valve design engineers to develop reliable and integrated design of the quadruple offset butterfly valve.

  • This paper presents design of induction motor in very low temperature for LNG main cargo pump and comparison of two motors. One is the motor for using in room temperature and another is the motor for using very low temperature. This paper designs with Equivalent circuit Method and uses Finite Element Method to analysis. The motor for very low temperature considers variation of coil resistivity due to temperature change and compare torque characteristic with the motor for room temperature. Design element of motor for very low temperature considers resistivity variation following temperature change on going through this paper. The result shows that two types of motors are almost same torque curve characteristic even though they are not the same environment.

  • A new control strategy to actively control the vibration of a very flexible single link manipulator is proposed and experimentally realized. The control scheme consists of two actuators; a motor mounted at the beam hub and a piezoceramic bonded to the surface of the flexible link. The control torque of the motor to produce a desired angular motion is firstly determined by employing a sliding mode control theory on the equivalent rigid dynamics. The torque is then applied to the flexible manipulator in order to activate the commanded motion. During the motion, underirable oscillation is actively suppressed by applying a feedback control voltage to the piezoceramic actuator. Consequently, the desired tip position is favorably accomplished without vibration. Measured control responses are presented in order to demonstrate the efficiency of the proposed control methodology.

  • The analytical expressions for magnetic field distributions considering slotting effects, cogging torque and back-emf considering skew effects are established. On the basis of magnetic field solutions, electrical parameters such as back-emf constant and winding inductance are obtained. The predicted results are validated extensively by non-linear finite element (FE) analyses. In particular, test results such as back-emf, cogging torque, inductance and resistance measurements are given to confirm the analyses. Finally, generating performances are investigated by applying estimated parameters to equivalent circuit (EC) of the permanent magnet generator (PMG) and validated extensively by FE calculations and measurements.

  • This paper presents performance comparison between concentrated winding and distributed winding of IPMSM (Interior Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motors) which is recently used for light-weight railway applications. Motors are designed on various schemes and analyzed by using FEM (Finite Element Method) instead of EMCNM (Equivalent Magnetic Circuit Network Method) in order to take into account saturation and non-linear magnetic property. The overall performance such as torque, torque ripple, losses, demagnetization, efficiency, power density and so on are investigated in detail at the rated and maximum operating speed. The results of the analysis found that both concentrated and distributed winding IPMSMs are promising candidates for high power railway traction motor.

  • Although Equvalent Magnetic Circuit (EMC) method. Using lumped parameter and numerical analysis method are widely used for electric machine analysis. these are neither always accurate enough nor sometimes available to easily use. Moreover three dimensional finite element method (3D-FEM) is inherently unsuitable for electric machine performance evaluation due to its poor computational efficiency, such as too long calculation time and difficulty in modeling for analysis. In this paper, Nonlinear Equivalent Magnetic Circuit (NEMC) method in combination with 2D-FEM is proposed to analyze the electric machine requiring 3D-FEM, and this method applys to torque evaluation for rotary actuator of Electro Magnetic Electronic Controller Power Steering (EM-ECPS).

  • In this paper, an efficient method of a hybrid stepping motor is proposed using permeance method. To be specific, hybrid stepping motor is modelled firstly as an equivalent nonlinear magnetic circuit including the saturation effects of iron parts, and then the static holding torque of the motor is calculated as a function of each design factor via Newton-Raphson's method. To show the validities of the proposed method, a prototype of hybrid stepping motor for 5 1/4 inches FDD header drive is made and tested in laboratory. As a result, the experimental data for the static holding torque is shown to be within 10% error compared with that of the simulated results.
