The Double-sided Linear Switched Reluctance Machine (DLSRM) suffers from complex eccentricities in practical operations. A novel sensorless control method for a DLSRM with eccentricities is developed in this paper. The influences of eccentricities on the machine inductance characteristics and the estimated positions in sensorless control systems are discussed. A new position index, which is independent of eccentricities, is proposed according to an analysis of a DLSRM equivalent magnetic circuit. On the basis of this position index, the starting and low-velocity operation of eccentric DLSRMs are achieved. Experimental results obtained in the laboratory validate the proposed method.
In the conventional SRM with multi-rotor teeth, the air gap must be very small in order to drive the SRM in the saturation region that is necessary for high output torque. However, this leads to the problem of overheating; particularly in the case of a small-size SRM This paper discusses the design of a new type of SRM, namely the rolled rotor SRM. This new type does not require more than a single region of a very small airgap. This solves the overheating problem in the small size SRM. Moreover, the use of the rolled rotor, instead of the conventional toothed rotor, grades the airgap region in a fashion that gives a smooth variation in the reluctance and smooth shapes of both current and torque. The latter functional behavior is required in many applications such as servo applications. The paper first addresses general design steps of the rolled rotor SRM then proceeds to the simulation results of the new SRM in order to evaluate the advantages gained from the new design. In addition, this paper compares the torque ripples obtained from the new design to its equivalent conventional one.

This paper presents a regenerative braking control scheme for Switched Reluctance Machine (SRM) drive in Electric Vehicles (EVs). The main purpose is to maximize the recovered energy during battery charging by taking into account the nonlinear physical characteristics of the Switched Reluctance Machine. The proposed regenerative braking method employs the back-EMF in the generation process as a complicated position-dependent voltage source. The proposed maximum power recovery (MPR) operation of the regenerative braking is first based on the maximization of the extracted power from the machine and then the maximization of the power transferred to the battery. The maximum power extraction (MPE) from SRM is based on maximizing the energy conversion ratio by the calculation of the optimum PWM switching duty cycle, turn-on, and turn-off angles. By using the impedance matching theorem that allows the maximum power transfer (MPT) of the MPE, the proposed MPR is achieved. The parametric averaged value modeling of the machine phase currents in the chopping control mode is used for MPR realization. By following this model, a nonlinear equivalent input resistance is derived for the battery internal resistance matching. The effectiveness of the proposed regenerative braking method is demonstrated through simulation results and experimental implementation.
3D Equivalent magnetic Circuit Network Method (EMCNM) is comparatively the easy way that analyzes 3D models of Electric Machine by using permeance as a distributive magnetic circuit parameter under the existing magnetic equivalent circuit method and Numerical Method. The existing 3D EMCNM could not correctly describe the shape of an analysis target when using rectangular shape element or fan shape element, so it made errors when calculating permeance. Therefore, this paper proposes the trapezoidal element contained rectangular element, fan-shape element, and quadrilateral element to express a shape. The proposed method in this research was confirmed as a useful and an accurate method through comparing with the analysis result of SRM model that is sufficiently guaranteed by 2D-Analysis.

Interior permanent-magnet synchronous motors (IPMSMs) produce both magnetic and reluctance torques. The reluctance torque is due to the difference between the d- and q-axis inductances based on the geometric rotor structure. The steady-state performance analysis and precise control of the IPMSMs greatly depend on the accurate determination of the parameters. The three essential parameters of the IPMSMs are the armature flux linkage of the permanent magnet, the d-axis inductance, and the q-axis inductance. In the basic design step of an IPMSM, the inductance parameters are very important for determining the motor characteristics, such as the input voltage, torque, and efficiency. Thus, it is very important to accurately estimate the values of the motor inductances. The inductance parameters of IPMSMs have nonlinear characteristics along the magnet size because the iron core is saturated by the magnet and armature reaction fluxes. In this study, the inductance parameters were calculated using both the magnetic-equivalent-circuit method and the finite-element method (FEM). Then the calculated parameters were compensated by the saturation coefficient function, which was also calculated via the magnetic-equivalent-circuit method and FEM.
This paper deals with inductance profile of linear switched reluctance motor. Inductance profile of LSRM calculate at align and unalign position using magnetic equivalent circuit method. Magnetic equivalent circuit method of this paper used method of reference[3],[4], but this method used modification on account difference of design specification Also, analysis result compares with data that is derived through an experiment, and proved validity.
Synchronous reluctance motors(SynRM) for the application such as an electric vehicle, compressor drives of air conditioner and machine tool spindle drives require a wide field-weakening speed range. In order to improve the efficiency performance in such applications, this paper has examined the loss and the efficiency characteristics of SynRM mainly in the field-weakening speed region over the base speed. The control strategy in order to offer a efficiency optimization operation is shown and the copper and iron losses driven the equivalent circuit model of the machine is minimized. The usefulness of the proposed efficiency optimization control is verified through the SynRM durve system.
This paper deals with characteristic analysis of Linear Switched Reluctance Motor (LSRM) according to switching condition. When approved current in each phase by decided position, we made sure current and voltage according to turn-on, turn-off. In dynamic simulation of LSRM, through an experiment, we decided turn-on position of inductance profile. Also, we presented dynamic characteristic analysis model which is consisted at motor and sensor signal part, etc., and substitute circuit constant that get using magnetic equivalent circuit method, we confirmed current and voltage waveform.
For permanent magnet brushless DC motors used for high speed fuel pumps, torque ripple is an important origin of vibration, acoustic noise and speed fluctuation. In this paper, the output torque profile of a PM motor with one phase energized is decomposed into the commutation torque, the reluctance torque and the armature reaction torque according to their source origins. It verifies that the output torque profile is qualitatively equivalent to the BEMF profile for low reluctance motors. This paper discusses the effect of magnet pole shaping and magnet arc length on the output torque and torque ripple. A magnet edge shaping is proposed to design a trapezoidal BEMF motor without torque ripple, with minimal sacrifice of the maximum output torque.
Based on the requirement of high power and efficiency in automobile systems, this paper describes an investigation for the optimum design of a permanent magnet reluctance motor(PRM), and then the characteristics of this kind of motor is compared with that of a interior permanent magnet(IPM) motor. The IPM of 4-pole with 6-slot is redesigned into a PRM, which has the same stator and different rotor structure with IPM. Through finite element analysis(FEA) and equivalent circuit method, the PRM has higher salient ratio, higher efficiency at high speed, and lower iron loss compared with IPM.
