  • Purpose: TLD experiments were set up to measure the dose distribution and to analyze the influence on dose measurement of thin metal plate and solid water phantom. The aim of the present study was to investigate the build-up effect of metal plate loaded on TLD chip and depth dose in the controlled environment of phantom measurements. Materials and Methods: Measurements were done by using LiF TLD-100 loaded by a thin metal plate with the same surface area (3.2$\times$3.2 $\textrm{mm}^2$) as TLD chip. TLD chips loaded with one metal plate from three different metal plate (Tin, Copper, Gold) of different thicknesses (0.1, 0.15, 0.2, 0.3 mm) were used respectively to measure radiation dose. Using the TLD loaded with one metal plate, surface dose and the depth dose at the build-up maximum region were investigated. Results: Using a metal plate on TLD chip increased the surface dose. Surface dose curve shows the dose build-up against equivalent thickness of metal to water. The values of TL reading obtained by using metal plate at depth of build-up maximum are about 8% to 13% lower than those obtained by normal TLD chip. Conclusion: The metal technique used for TLD dosimetry could provide clinicals information about the build-up of dose up to 4.2mm depth in addition to a depth dose distribution. The results of TLD with a metal plate measurements may help with decisions to boost or bolus certain areas of the skin.

  • A series of forced oscillation test on model mooring chain was carried out to investigate dynamic tension characteristics. The model test was conducted at two different water depth to gather basic data for 'truncated mooring test' and 'hybrid mooring test'. The truncated and hybrid mooring test are highly recommended to overcome the limitation of water depth in model test recently. The resultant tension RAO gives good possibility of approximation of dynamic tension by equivalent weight adjustment for the ratio of water depth in different water depth. Because the hybrid mooring test is the adequate combination of model test and simulation, accurate simulation model on mooring system is essential. The simulation results show good agreement with model test results.

  • A transverse drag interaction coefficient of the equivalent resistance coefficient formula for square multi-piers higher than water depth and arranged with equal intervals was studied. From the assumption that the energy loss due to drag interaction according to transverse intervals of resistance bodies is essentially identical to the energy loss due to thick orifice according to porosities, the transverse drag interaction coefficient was derived by employing the orifice's energy loss coefficient. The equivalent resistance coefficient formula including the drag interaction coefficient was compared with the numerical experiments using FLOW-3D, the performance of which was verified by Kim et al.(2008) in the experimental condition with the multi-piers. The comparisons showed good agreement and thus, the equivalent resistance coefficient formula, which does not only consider frictional resistance but also consider the multi-piers' drag resistance varied according to the intervals in longitudinal or transverse direction, was verified.

  • The environmental load of concrete pavement can be categorized by temperature and moisture loads, which mean temperature distribution, and drying shrinkage and creep in the concrete slab. In this study, a method calculating the environmental load essential to mechanistic design of airport concrete pavement was developed. First, target area and design slab thickness were determined. And, the concrete temperature distribution with slab depth was predicted by a pavement temperature prediction program to calculate equivalent linear temperature difference. The concrete drying shrinkage was predicted by improving an existing model to calculate differential shrinkage equivalent linear temperature difference considering regional relative humidity. In addition, the stress relaxation was considered in the drying shrinkage. Eventually, the equivalent linear temperature difference due to temperature and the differential shrinkage equivalent linear temperature difference due to moisture were combined into the total equivalent linear temperature difference as terminal environmental load. The environmental load of eight civilian and two military airports which represent domestic regional weather conditions were calculated and compared by the method developed in this study to show its application.

  • The grounding system is necessary to provide means to dissipate electric currents into the earth without exceeding any operating and equipment limits. The ground is composed of various soils and the resistivity of the soil depends on many parameters. It depends on the type of soil and varies with distance as well as with depth. Especially, soil resistivity of volcanic area such as Jeju is ve교 high and it is difficult to acquire necessary grounding resistivity. This paper introduces the efficient grounding construction using coring technique for proper grounding resistance in high resistivity area. Because it is difficult to measure the accurate resistivity of soils, their resistivities are estimated using measured value of ground resistance and equivalent radius method. Estimated resistivities are used for grounding resistance in scheduled construction region.

  • Cooling by the flow of water through an embedded cooling pipe has become a common and effective artificial thermal control measure for massive concrete structures. However, an extreme thermal gradient induces significant thermal stress, resulting in thermal cracking. Using a mesoscopic finite-element (FE) mesh, three-phase composites of concrete namely aggregate, mortar matrix and interfacial transition zone (ITZ) are modeled. An equivalent probabilistic model is presented for failure study of concrete by assuming that the material properties conform to the Weibull distribution law. Meanwhile, the correlation coefficient introduced by the statistical method is incorporated into the Weibull distribution formula. Subsequently, a series of numerical analyses are used for investigating the influence of the correlation coefficient on tensile strength and the failure process of concrete based on the equivalent probabilistic model. Finally, as an engineering application, damage and failure behavior of concrete cracks induced by a water-cooling pipe are analyzed in-depth by the presented model. Results show that the random distribution of concrete mechanical parameters and the temperature gradient near water-cooling pipe have a significant influence on the pattern and failure progress of temperature-induced micro-cracking in concrete.

  • Reinforced concrete beams show increased ductile behavior when the compressive concrete is confined with transverse steel. In the inelastic range, the most variations of ductile behaviour are defined the equivalent length of the plastic hinge and the plastic hinge rotation. In an investigation to study the influence of such confinement, sixteen reinforced concrete beams were tested in flexure and the deflections noted at all stages of loading. For all the beams tested, the plastic hinge rotation have been computed and the effect of confinement on the same examined. The conclusions are summarized as follows: The equivalent lengths of the plastic hinge are ranged within the effective depth comparatively. The ability of the plastic hinge rotation of the reinforced concrete beams confined with transverse steel are enlarged when transverse reinforcement content are increased, but the spaces are more important as the shear force are largely increased.

  • The Purpose of this study is to know temperature and thermal stress distribution in specimens during processing of WEDM. If it is constant to the cutting speed and the thickness of material, it is very important to the effect of temperature and the thermal stress distribution after cutting processing. This paper show the analysis result of the distribution of temperature and the residual stress along the direction of thickness before processing of WEDM and after when the cooling temperature is$20^{\circ}C$. The maximum temperature of edge of specimens is $1600^{\circ}C$. It has little temperature gradient in the depth which is 5mm away from edge of specimens. Equivalent residual stress is result in 180.7 MPa at maximum temperature.

  • Kwon et al.(2008) carried out a hydraulic experiment in order to evaluate Manning coefficient, which implicates flow resistance due to bottom friction as well as drag caused by the squared piers higher than water depth and arranged with equal intervals, under the flow condition with a constant drag coefficient, $Re>10^4$. And, based on the equation of equilibrium, they proposed a formula for the equivalent resistant coefficient including empirical drag interaction coefficient obtained by using the experimental results. In this study, the hydraulic experiment was simulated using FLOW-3D, a 3-dimensional computational fluid dynamic code. The computations were compared with the experiment results as well as the semi-theoretical formula, and the comparisons show a good agreement. From the agreement, it was confirmed that when flow resistance bodies were higher than water depth, Manning n value increases with 2/3 power of water depth as shown in the theoretical formula and that drag interaction coefficient was dominated by their intervals.
