Design of Physical Layer and Performance Analysis for MX-S2X, Ship Centric Direct Communication with the Mitigation of Multi-path Fading on Sea Environment (해상 다중경로 페이딩 극복을 위한 선박중심 직접통신(MX-S2X) 물리계층 설계 및 성능 분석)

  • This paper presents the definition and importance of ship-centric direct communication concerning ship safety of maritime autonomous and unmanned ships. It also proposes the concept of MX-S2X communication based on high frequency for wide-bandwidth technology and describes the design and simulation result for the physical layer of MX-S2X. It considered high-speed communication as well as overcoming maritime multi-path fading required to be resolved in the marine environment. The physical layer of MX-S2X communication was designed to overcome the occurrence of error-floor caused by multi-path fading even with receiving sufficient signal strength. To this purpose, a performance analysis was conducted on the physical layer by applying the channel model of the actual maritime communication environment. As a result of the performance analysis of the MX-S2X physical layer, it was confirmed that the BER error-floor observed in the VDE physical layer test was overcome, and it operated within the SNR 2dB degradation range compared to the AWGN channel. It is expected that this will show enough performance suitable for short-distance ship-centered direct communication and can be used for direct communication of maritime autonomous ships, unmanned ships, and group navigation of themshortly.

A Performance Comparison of CCA and RMMA Algorithm for Blind Adaptive Equalization (블라인드 적응 등화를 위한 CCA와 RMMA 알고리즘의 성능 비교)

  • This paper related with the performance comparison of CCA and RMMA blind adaptive equalization in order to reduce the intersymbol interference which is occurred in channel when transmitting the 16-QAM signal, high spectrum efficiencies of nonconstant modulus characteristic. The CCA possible to improve the misadustment and initial convergence by compacting the every signal constellation of 16 by using the sliced symbol of the decision device output, namely statistical symbol, but incresing the computational cost. The RMMA possible to minimize the fast convergence speed and misadjustment and channel tracking capability without increasing the computational cost by obtain the error signal after transform to 4 constant modulus signal based on the region of signal constellation located. In this paper, these algorithm were implemented in the same channel, and the blind adaptive equalization performance were compared using the equalizer output signal constellation, residual isi, MSE, SER. As a result of simulation, the RMMA has better performance in output signal constellation, residual isi and MSE compared to the CCA, but has slow convergence speed about 1.3 times. And the SER performance presenting the robustness to the noise signal, the CCA has more beeter in less SNR, but the RMMA has better in greater than 6dB in SNR.

  • The MX-S2X, utilizing high-frequency broadband communication technology, provides a reliable connection between land, ship, and facilities. This technology is expected to be effectively utilized as a future maritime communication infrastructure in the upcoming mixed navigational situation among autonomous and manned and/or unmanned ships. Following the physical layer design and M&S-based performance analysis of the MX-S2X system to overcome maritime multipath fading, this paper confirms the optimized and detailed design of physical layer hardware and implemented it to verify the performance. The PER(Packet Error Rate) performance was then measured by configuring a test environment to verify the implemented hardware. The results showed that the performance degradation was 0.2 dB in the AWGN environment and 1.2 dB in the Multi-path Fading on Sea Environment, thus confirming the successful implementation of the physical layer.

  • Forward osmotic pressure-free reverse osmosis (Δ𝜋=0 RO) was invented in 2013. The first patent (US 9,950,297 B2) was registered on April 18, 2018. The "Osmotic Pressure of Concentrated Solutions" in JACS (1908) by G.N. Lewis of MIT was used for the estimation. The Chang's RO system differs from conventional RO (C-RO) in that two-chamber system of osmotic pressure equalizer and a low-pressure RO system while C-RO is based on a single chamber. Chang claimed that all aqueous solutions, including salt water, regardless of its osmotic pressure can be separated into water and salt. The second patent (US 10.953.367B2, March 23, 2021) showed that a low-pressure reverse osmosis is possible for 3.0% input at Δ𝜋 of 10 to 12 bar. Singularity ZERO reverse osmosis from his third patent (Korea patent 10-22322755, US-PCT/KR202003595) for a 3.0% NaCl input, 50% more water recovery, use of 1/3 RO membrane area, and 1/5th of theoretical energy. These numbers come from Chang's laboratory experiments and theoretical analysis. Relative residence time (RRT) of feed and OE chambers makes Δ𝜋 to zero or negative by recycling enriched feed flow. The construction cost by S-ZERO was estimated to be around 50~60% of the current RO system.
