A Review on Nanocomposite Based Electrical Insulations

  • The potential of nanocomposites have been drawing the intention of the researchers from energy storage to electrical insulation applications. Nanocomposites are known to improve dielectric properties, such as the increase in dielectric breakdown strength, suppressing the partial discharge (PD) as well as space charge, and prolonging the treeing, etc. In this review, different theories have been established to explain the reactions at the interaction zone of polymer matrix and nanofiller; the characterization methods of nanocomposites are also presented. Furthermore, the remarkable findings in the fields of epoxy, cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE), polypropylene and polyvinyl chloride (PVC) nanocomposites are reviewed. In this study, it was observed that there is lack of comparison between results of lab scale specimens and actual field aged cables. Also, non-standardization of the preparation methods and processing parameters lead to changes in the polymer structure and its surface degradation. However, on the positive side, recent attempt of 250 kV XLPE nanocomposite HVDC cables in service may deliver a promising performance in the coming years. Moreover, materials such as self-healing polymer nanocomposites may emerge as substitutes to traditional insulations.

섬유강화 복합재의 열이방성에 대한 섬유 형태적 영향 (Effects of fiber forms on thermal anisotropy in fibrous composites)

  • C형 및 중공형 탄소섬유는 방직(spinning)시 홀의 전단응력을 원형의 그것에 비해서 더 광범위하게 걸쳐받게 됨으로 분자배향을 고도로 유도할 수가 있다. 핏치계 이방성 중공 및 C형 탄소섬유 강화재의 축 횡방향 열전도도를 에폭시 모재 하에서 실험하였다. 열이방성 정도에 있어 원형 탄소섬유 보강재인 경우 50 정도 였으나, C형과 중공형 보강재는 최고치로 대략 130과 118 정도를 보임으로써 원형 강화재 보다 200%이상 우수한 열이방성을 보였다.

혼합 하중하에서의 고분자/거친금속 계면의 파손경로 (Failure Paths of Polymer/Roughened Metal Interfaces under Mixed-Mode Loading)

  • Copper-based leadframe sheets were oxidized in two kinds of hot alkaline solutions to form brown-oxide or black-oxide layer on the surface. The oxide coated leadframe sheets were molded with epoxy molding compound (EMC). After post mold curing, the oxide-coated EMC-leadframe joints were machined to form sandwiched Brazil-nut (SBN) specimens. The SBN specimens were used to measure the fracture toughness of the EMC/leadframe interfaces under mixed-mode (mode I + mode II) loading conditions. Fracture surfaces were analyzed by various equipment to investigate failure path. The results revealed that the failure paths were strongly dependent on the oxide type. In case of brown oxide, hackle-type failure was observed and failure path lay near the EMC/CuO interface with a little inclining to CuO at all case. On the other hand, in case of black oxide, quite different failure path was observed with respect to the distance from the tip of pre-crack and phase angle. Different failures occurred with oxide type is presumed to be due to the difference in microstructure of the oxides.

  • In this study, the effect of Carbon/PEEK composites on the tribological properties has been investigated. Also, its validity has been tested in the capacity of alternative materials of the Ti-based materials used for artificial hip joint. Moreover, this work evaluated the mechanical properties according to the fiber ply orientation, along with the fractured surfaces of the carbon/PEEK composites. The composites with a unidirectional orientation had higher tribological properties than those with a multidirectional orientation. This was caused by the debonding between the carbon fiber and the PEEK, which was proportional to the contact area between the sliding surface and the carbon fiber. The friction test results showed that there were no significant differences in relation to the fiber ply orientation. However, the friction properties of the carbon/PEEK composites were higher than those of the carbon/epoxy composites. In addition, the results showed that a composite that slid in a direction normal to the prepreg lay-up direction had a smaller friction coefficient than one that slid in a direction parallel to the prepreg lay-up direction.

Improvement of Adhesion Strength between Cu-based Leadframe and Fpoxy Molding Compound

  • A block-oxide layer was formed on the surface of Cu-based leadframe by chamical oxidation method in order to enhance the adhesion strength between Cu-based leadframe and epoxy molding compound (EMC) Using sandwiched double cantilever beam (SDCB) specimens, the adesion strength was measured in terms of interfacial fracture toughness, G$\sub$IC//Results showed that the black-oxide layer was composed of two kinds of layers: pebble-like Cu$_2$O layer and acicular CuO layer, At the initial stage of oxidation the Cu$_2$O layer was preferentially formed and thickened up to around 200 nm whithin 1 minute of the oxidation time. Then the CuO layer started to from atop of the Cu$_2$O layer and thickened up to around 1300 nm until 20 minutes. As soon as the CuO layer formed, the thickness of Cu$_2$O layer began to reduce and finally reached to around 150 nm. The pre-cleaned and the Cu$_2$O coated leadframes showed almost no adhesion of EMC, however, as the CuO precipitates appeared and became continuous, G$\sub$IC/ increased up to around 80 J/㎡. Further oxidation raised G$\sub$IC/ up. to around 100 J/㎡.

부여 장하리 삼층석탑의 과학적 조사 및 보존처리 (Scientific Investigation and Conservation Treatment of the Three-story Stone Pagoda at Jangha-ri, Buyeo)

  • 부여 장하리 삼층석탑의 연구는 석탑 부재에 대한 물성 평가를 수행하여 석탑의 현재 상태를 객관적으로 파악하고 석조문화재의 훼손에 적합한 보존처리 방안을 수행하기 위해 실시하였다. 평균 전암대자율 값은 3.71(10-3 SI unit)로 나타났고, 석탑 부재는 최소 4종류의 화강암으로 분류되며, 동일한 기원을 가지지 않은 것으로 판단된다. 초음파 속도는 평균 1,519m/s로 풍화 지수를 환산한 결과 평균 4등급으로 나타났고, 열화상 측정을 통해 시멘트 부재와 원 부재의 열적 구배를 확인하였으며, 부분적으로 원암과 비슷한 신석으로 교체되어야 할 것으로 사료된다. 과학적 조사를 바탕으로 풍화 훼손 지도를 작성하고, 선행연구를 통해 적합한 보존처리 방안을 수립하였다. 생물피해와 변색이 심하여 증류수와 브러쉬를 이용한 습식세척을 실시하여 표면의 오염물을 제거하였으며, 박리가 되는 부분을 에폭시 수지와 동질의 석분을 현장에서 제작하여 혼합한 후 보강하였다.

  • In this wort. the effect of anodic oxidation on surface characteristics of high strength PAN-based carbon fibers is investigated in terms of surface and mechanical interfacial properties of the composites. As a result, the acidity of carbon fiber surfaces is increased, due to the development of oxygen functional groups in the presence of anodic oxidation. Also. it is found that the critical stress intensity factor ($K_{IC}$) is improved in the oxidized fibers-reinforced composites. which can be attributed to the good wettability between fibers and epoxy resin matrix.

  • 복합재료가 피로하중을 받으면 재료 내부에 손상이 누적되며, 이는 재료의 물성 변화로 나타난다. 본 연구에서는 손상을 나타내는 인자로 피로계수를 사용하였다. 피로계수와 참고계수로 정의되는 손상함수로부터 복합재료의 피로수명 예측을 이론적으로 연구하였다. 제안된 모델들은 인가 응력 수준, 피로주기 및 피로수명의 함수로 유도하였다. 예측 결과는 유리섬유/에폭시 복합재료와 유리섬유/폴리에스터 복합재료를 사용한 다중응력 피로 실험 데이터를 이용하여 검증하였다.

복합재료 동력전달축의 접착조인트에 관한 연구 (A Study on Adhesive Joints for Composite Driveshafts)

  • 비강성, 비강도가 우수한 복합재료의 특성상, 기존의 금속 구조물을 복합재료 구조물로 대체 하는 것은 많은 이득을 가져온다. 이 논문에서는 탄소섬유/에폭시 복합재료와 유리섬유/에폭시 복합재료를 이용하여 정적 토크전달 능력, 비틀림 좌굴 하중. 굽힘 1차 고유진동수의 설계 기준을 만족하는 후륜구동 자동차용 일체형 동력전달축이 설계 및 제조되었다. 복합재료 중공축과 알루미늄 요크와의 결합을 위하여 단일 겹치기 접착조인트가 사용되었으며, 접착조인트의 정적 토크전달 능력은 접착길이와 요크두게에 따라 유한요소 해석을 이용하여 계산되었고, 실제 실험결과와 비교되었다. 복합재료 중공축의 정적 토크전달 능력은 Tasi-Wu 파괴지수와 아루미늄 요크와 에폭시 접착제의 비선형 물성을 적용하여 계산되었다. 실험과 해석결과로부터 복합재료 동력전달축의 정적 토크전달 능력은 임계 요크 두께에서 가장 높았으며, 임계 접착길이 이상에서는 포화되었다. 또한 일체형 복합재료 동력전달축은 기존의 2단 분리형 강철 동력전달축과 비교하여 40%의 무게 감소효과를 가져왔다.

Rate-Dependence of Off-Axis Tensile Behavior of Cross-Ply CFRP Laminates at Elevated Temperature and Its Simulation

  • The present paper focuses on experimental verification of the ply-by-ply basis inelastic analysis of multidirectional laminates. First of all, rate dependence of the tensile behavior of balanced symmetric cross-ply T800H/epoxy laminates with a $[0/90]_{3S}$ lay-up under off-axis loading conditions at $100^{\circ}C$ is examined. Uniaxial tension tests are performed on plain coupon specimens with various fiber orientations $[{\theta}/(90-{\theta})]_{3S}$ ($\theta$ = 0, 5, 15, 45 and $90^{\circ}C$) at two different strain rates (1.0 and 0.01%/min). The off-axis stress.strain curves exhibit marked nonlinearity for all the off-axis fiber orientations except for the on-axis fiber orientations $\theta$ = 0 and $90^{\circ}$, regardless of the strain rates. Strain rate has significant influences not only on the off-axis flow stress in the regime of nonlinear response but also on the apparent off-axis elastic modulus in the regime of initial linear response. A macromechanical constitutive model based on a ply viscoplasticity model and the classical laminated plate theory is applied to predictions of the rate-dependent off-axis nonlinear behavior of the cross-ply CFRP laminate. The material constants involved by the ply viscoplasticity model are identified on the basis of the experimental results on the unidirectional laminate of the same carbon/epoxy system. It is demonstrated that good agreements between the predicted and observed results are obtained by taking account of the fiber rotation induced by deformation as well as the rate dependence of the initial Young's moduli.
