  • Medicinal plants were screened for the inhibitory effects on human immunodeficiency virus type 1 pretense. Of the extracts tested, the strong inhibitory effects were observed in the acetone extracts of the pericarp of Camellia japonica. Camelliatannin H from the pericarp of C. japonica showed a potent inhibitory activity on HIV-1 pretense. Effects of the extract and compound from leaves of Zanthoxylum piperitum on the enzyme activities were investigated in the liver of bromobenzene-treated rats. The methanol extract and protocatechuic acid isolated from Z. pipetitum reduced the activity of aniline hydroxylase that increased by bromobenzene, while did not affect the activities of aminopyrin N-demethylase and glutathione S-transferase. The extract and protocatechuic acid recovered significantly the activity of epoxide hydrolase decreased by bromobenzene.

  • The activity-oriented fractionation of Psoralea corylifolia led to an isolation of a (+) bakuchio 1 as an activ eprinciple of its antitumoral property in vitro 1 was observed to exhibit a mild cytotoxicity against five kinds of cultured human cancer cell lines, i. e. the A549, SK-OV-3, SK-MEL-2, XF-498 and HCT15. The synthesized 2, 3-epoxide of (+)-bakuchiol 3 showed the similar activity as the (+) bakuchiol 1, whereas the other oxidation derivatives 4 and 5 including the acetyl (+) bakuchiol 2 showed a decreased activity.

  • Conformationally locked nucleosides are important in searching selective agonists and antagonists for P2Y receptors. There were two previous synthetic works of the crucial intermediate, cyclopentenyl alcohol (3), which had some inefficiency like using too strong dianionic base and synthesis of racemate. Here we describes a facile synthesis of the intermediate using Sharpless epoxidation and the opening of epoxide ring using zinc, followed by Grubb's metathesis as key steps. The intermediate was converted to the southern bicyclo[3.2.0]heptane for confirming its usefulness.

  • In order to investigate whether genetic polymorphisms in the mEH exon3 (Tyr139His), exon4 (His113Arg) interact with the formation of MN in benzene exposed workers, the PCR-RFLP based genotyping of 76 exposed and 115 controls were performed and cytokinesis-block micronucleus (CBMN) analysis of 56 exposed and 53 controls was employed.(omitted)

  • To add Nanofiller in the epoxy which is used with the solid insulation material of existing and is a research which observes the improvement of the structural quality to produce the Nanocomposite. Montmorillonite uses with Nanofiller, MMT of the content expense (wt%) which is various and mixed an epoxide and produced sample. According to content of the sample result MMT according to respectively content expense to measure SEM photographing which is the possibility of knowing the minute structure of section with sample where is produced and the tensile strength will be able to observe the change of quality. MMT silicate layer uniformly more in the result and within epoxy matrix, being dispersed, will be able to observe.

  • Epoxidized polybutadiene (EPB) was prepared by polybutadiene (PB) with m-chloroperbenzoic acid (MCPBA) in homogeneous solution. EPB was blended with poly(3-hydroxybutyrate) (PHB) up to 30 wt% by solution-precipitation procedure. The thermal decomposition of PHB/EPB blends was studied by thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and differential thermal analysis (DTA). The thermograms of PHB/EPB blends contained a two-step degradation process, while that of pure PHB sample exhibited only one-step degradation process. This degradation behavior of PHB/EPB blends, which have a higher thermal stability as measured by maximum decomposition temperature and residual weight, is probably due to crosslinking reactions of the epoxide groups in the EPB component with the carboxyl chain ends of PHB fragments during the degradation process, and the occurrence of such reactions can be assigned to the exothermic peaks in their DTA thermograms.

  • In order to qualify and quantify carotenoid pigment of pumpukin were analyzed by HPLC column chromatography and spectrophotometry. Eightyseven percent of total carotenoids in the pumpkin was in the fiber amounting 65.33mg%. however flesh and skin contained 6.61 and 3.31mg% respectvely. A silica gel column chromatography of the carotenoids produced 2 different peaks. The components eluted in peak II showed blue color when treated with hydrochloric acid. The fact suggested it contained epoxide and the component in peak II was a monol. By the separation with HPLC. $\alpha$ and $\beta$-carotene were the major compounds in the carotenoids. In fiber the total $\beta$-carotene content was 1.6 times higher than in the flesh and skin. The fiber contained less unidentified compounds than other part which contained 27.3~32.8%.

  • Cellulose was reacted with ethylene oxide to get hydroxyethylcellulose. Quaternary ammonium salt was produced by reaction of epichlorohydrin and trialkylamine. The epoxide ring was opened by acid addition to 3-chloro-2-hydroxypropyltrialkylammonium chloride. Previously unreported two compounds, hydroxyethylcellulose-2-hydroxypropylammonium chloride ether and hydroxyethylcellulose-2-hydroxypropyltriethylammonium chloride ether were synthesized by substitution reaction of hydroxyethylcellulose with glycidyltrialkylammonium chloride or 3-chloro-2-hydroxypropyl-glycidyltrialkylammonium trialkylammonium chloride. All of the compounds including starting materials and reaction intermediates were characterized by $^1H$-NMR and FT-IR spectroscopy.

  • The use pattern and survey data on the residue levels of organochlorine insecticides in Korea were summarized. On the basis of available data on food consumption and residue levels, the daily intake of the pesticide chemicals by average Korean adults were calculated to give $13.77\;{\mu}g$ of total BHC, $2.45\;{\mu}g$ of total DDT and $4.06\;{\mu}g$ of heptachlor and its epoxide. These intake levels were compared with the acceptable daily intake proposed by FAO/WHO and values obtained in other countries. It was then proposed to undertake a total diet study on pesticide chemicals for the sake of food safety assurrance and reasonable regulation of pesticides for food production in this country.
