  • This study was carried out to compare a conventional alkaline flotation deinking conditions with neutral deinking conditions with and without enzyme addition with respect to the ink removal efficiency and theflotation deinking filtrate quality such as chemical oxygen demand, cationic demand, suspended solids. Based on ink removal rate the neutral deinking condition without enzyme was better than the alkaline deinking condition, and the neutral deinking with enzyme addition turned out to be the best. The brightness of the deinked pulp was found to be the same trend as the ink removal rate. Flotation reject rate for the neutral deinking condition without enzyme was higher than that of the alkaline deinking condition, but that of the neutral deinking condition with enzyme was lower than that of the alkaline and the neutral deinking condition without enzyme. On the freeness of the deinked pulp, the neutral deinking condition with enzyme had the highest value and the alkaline deinking condition had the lowest value among the conditions tested. On the filtrate of the flotation stage, the cationic polymer demand of the neutral deinking condition with enzyme was much lower than the other conditions. Suspended solids and chemical exygen demand for the neutral flotation deinking filtrate was lower than those of the alkaline flotation deinking filtrate.

  • Old newspaper was deinked using commercial cellulolytic enzymes and a surfactant complex at low alkalinity. The properties of the deinked pulp(DIP) were evaluated and the suspended solids content, cationic demand, turbidity, and chemical oxygen demand(COD) of the process water were measured. The results can summarized as follows, 1. The brightness and yield of the DIP were improved using enzymatic surfactant complex deinking. 2. The amount of foaming during deinking with the enzyme surfactant complex was higher than that with synthetic surfactant deinking. However, it was not sufficient to cause process problem. 3. The pH and turbidity of the white water from deinking with the enzyme surfactant complex were similar to those of the white water from surfactant deinking. 4. The suspended solids content, cationic demand, and COD of the white water from deinking with the enzyme surfactant complex were improved compared to those of the white water from surfactant deinking.

  • Enzymatic deinking of office-waste paper was studied using crude cellulase and papain-hydrolyzed cellulase from Trichoderma reesei Rut C-30 in small-scale and mid-scale. The results were compared with deinkings using commercial enzyme(Novozym 342) and conventional chemical methods. Maximum brightness and freeness were obtained at 3 units/g Oven Dry Paper(ODP) of CMCase activity using crude cellulase in mid-scale deinking experiments. The deinked pulp had higher physical strength and brightness, and lower freeness and yield than the pulp deinked in small scale. In small scale deinking, maximum brightness and freeness were obtained at 2 unit/g ODP. Deinking by papain-hydrolyzed cellulase showed similar results with one by Novozym 342. It was better in brightness and freeness, but showed lower physical strength and yield, than the conventional deinking by sodium hydroxide. The ratio of endo-1,4-glucanase and exo-1,4-glucanase components in papain hydrolyzed cellulase from T. reesei Rut C-30 was similar to that of commercial enzyme, Novozym 342, implicating a successful application as a deinking enzyme.

  • Deinking is a series of unit operations designed to detach ink from cellulose fibers and separate the dispersed ink from the pulp slurry. Deinking chemicals are process aids that enable expensive mill equipment used in these unit operations to operate more efficiently - often much more efficiently. We propose the blended deinking agent with cellulolutic enzymes and synthetic collector in deinking pulp of conventional alkaline method. The deinking efficiency of old news print in alkaline pH was enhanced with enzyme treatments. The brightness of deinked pulp was increased with less residual ink particles and yield of enzymatic deinked pulp was improved compared to the deinked pulp of conventional alkaline method. Enzymes in biomass were use to Chemical Deinking for reduce environment pollution through surfactant and improve surfactants. examining into compatibility Enzymes and surfactants, these new materials are studied efficiency of deinking efficiency.

  • The objective of this study was to investigate the enzymatic deinking technology. Office recycled papers such as computer printed out(CPO) and white ledger(WL) were used in the evaluation of four different deinking conditions ; alkaline deinking , neutral deinking and enzymatic deinking at alkaline and neutral pH. Filltering pads were prepared after flotation deinking to measure brighteness gain and ink removal efficiency. Three different surfactants were also used in the evaluation of deinking efficiency including surface chemical properties by measuring foam height and stability, surface tension and cloud point of views. The results indicated that the neutral deinking method with enzyme and surfactant addition showed highest deinking efficiency of office recycled papers.

  • This study was carried out to investigate the characteristics of extracellular cellulase and xylanase from 4 selected different species, such as enzyme activity and stability by pH, temperature and metal ions, for application into enzymatic deinking system. The optimal temperature and pH for enzyme activity of Bacillus pumilus I, B. subtilis I, B. pumilus II and B. subtilis II were mainly $40{\sim}60^{\circ}C$ and pH $6.0{\sim}7.0$, respectively. Certain metal ions, calcium and cobalt, elevated enzyme activity, even though there were different results of enzyme activities based on various metal ions in 4 different species. With these results we suggest that enzymatic deinking system should be proceed at $50^{\circ}C$ with neutral pH condition.

  • This study was to evaluate applications of the alkalophilic enzymes from Coprinus cinereus 2249 with old newsprint(ONP). A enzymatic deinking process based on alkalopholic enzymes was investigated . It was found that alkalophilic enzymes could effectively deink old newsprint. When applied on deinking of the old newsprint, it increases the freeness and brightness due to effect of hydrolysis at 0.1% enzyme concentration . Also, the physical properties of deinked pulp were improved.
