In this study, the influence of the construction of a large sized building on the flow and level of groundwater in a metropolitan area was investigated with simulation model MODFLOW for a selected area located in Gangseo-gu, Seoul, where a large business center was scheduled to be built. It was simulated that the groundwater level in the study area was suddenly lowered by the construction of a large building and groundwater in the surrounding area fast flowed into the study area. And even after the construction finished, the falling down of groundwater level consistently continued in some degree. The flow state of groundwater appeared to be the same in both cases where a soil cement wall is applied and where it is not during the construction. But for the case of application of a soil cement wall as the amount of groundwater flowing into the study site became reduced, it was estimated that the time for underground watershed getting far away from the site was also reduced and the influence of a building construction on the surrounding groundwater became reduced. Thus, it is deemed necessary that recharging the spilled ground water and rainfall into the construction area to lessen the abrupt change in flow and level of ground water should be considered in design of construction of a large sized building in a metropolitan area.

A two-dimensional (2D), laterally-averaged hydrodynamic and water quality model, CE-QUAL-W2 was applied to evaluate the performance on simulating the effect of flushing from Daecheong Reservoir on the downstream water quality variations during the flushing events held on November, 2003 and March, 2008. The hydraulic and water quality simulation results were compared with field measurement data, as well as a one-dimensional (1D), unsteady model (KORIV1) that revealed limited capability in the previous study due to missing the resuspension process of river bottom sediments. The results showed that although the 2D model made satisfactory performance in reproducing the temporal variations of dissolved matters including phosphate, ammonia and nitrate, it revealed poor performance in simulating the increase of biological oxygen demand and suspended sediment (SS) concentrations during the passage of the flushing flow. The reason of the error was that the resuspension process of the 2D model is only the function of shear stress induced by wind. In reality, however, as shown by significant correlation between bottom shear stress ($\tau$) and observed SS concentration, the resuspension process can be significantly influenced by current velocity in the riverine system, especially during flushing event. The results indicate that the resuspension of river bottom materials should be incorporated into the water quality modeling processes if $\tau$ is greater than a critical shear stress (${\tau}_c$) for better simulation of flushing effect.
Window interface to Hydrological Simulation Program-FORTRAN (WinHSPF) developed by the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) was applied to the upstream of Nam-Han river watershed to examine its applicability for loading estimates in watershed scale and to evaluate non-point source control scenarios using BMPRAC in WinHSPF. The WinHSPF model was calibrated and verified for water flow using Ministry of Construction and Transportation (MOCT, 3 stations, 2003~2005) and water qualities using Ministry of Environment (MOE, 5 station, 2000~2006). Water flow and water quality simulation results were also satisfactory over the total simulation period. But outliers were occurred in the time series data of TN and TP at some regions and periods. Therefore, it required more profit calibration process for more various parameters. As a result, all the study was performed within the expectation considering the complexity of the watershed, pollutant sources and land uses intermixed in the watershed. The estimated pollutant load for annual average about $BOD_5$, T-N and T-P respectively. Nonpoint source loading had a great portion of total pollutant loading, about 86.5~95.2%. In WinHSPF, BMPRAC was applied to evaluate non-point source control scenarios (constructed wetland, wet detention ponds and infiltration basins). All the scenarios showed efficiency of non-point source removal. Overall, the HSPF model is adequate for simulating watersheds characteristics, and its application is recommended for watershed management and evaluation of best management practices.

Recently, major cities in Korea are suffering from frequent urban flooding caused by heavy rainfall. Such urban flooding mainly occurs due to the limited design capacity of the current drainage network, which increases the vulnerability of the cities to cope with intense precipitation events brought about by climate change. In other words, it can be interpreted that runoff exceeding the design capacity of the drainage network and increased impervious surfaces in the urban cities can overburden the current drainage system and cause floods. The study presents the green roof as a sustainable solution for this issue, and suggests the pre-design using the LID controls model in SWMM to establish more specific flood prevention system. In order to conduct the computer simulation in connection with Korean climate, the study used the measured precipitation data from Cheonan Station of Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA) and the forecasted precipitation data from RCP 8.5 scenario. As a result, Extensive Green Roof System reduced the peak runoff by 53.5% with the past storm events and by 54.9% with the future storm events. The runoff efficiency was decreased to 4% and 7%. This results can be understood that Extensive Green Roof System works effectively in reducing the peak runoff instead of reducing the total stormwater runoff.

Recently, the deepening of the environment and accompanying concerns produce various environmental regulations. For example, EPR(Extended Producer Responsibility) is emphasized in many countries such as USA and Europe. According to this, the construction of a reverse supply chain is under compulsion. A diversity of parts can be controlled by a government or enterprises in the construction and management of a reverse supply chain and the effect to the environment is changed according to the policy. Therefore, it is essential to understand the effects of regulations or policies of a government and enterprises on a supply chain. The object of this research is to develop a means to assess the management efficiency and the environmental effect over a whole supply chain and show the effects of various reverse supply chain construction policies on a supply chain. This model can be utilized to establish appropriate policies by understanding the change in the management efficiency and the environmental effect according to the reverse supply chain construction and management method.

Multivariate statistical analysis and an environmental hydrological model were applied for investigating the causes of water pollution and providing best management practices for water quality improvement in urban and agricultural watersheds. Principal component analysis (PCA) and cluster analysis (CA) for water quality time series data show that chemical oxygen demand (COD), total organic carbon (TOC), suspended solids (SS) and total phosphorus (T-P) are classified as non-point source pollutants that are highly correlated with river discharge. Total nitrogen (T-N), which has no correlation with river discharge and inverse relationship with water temperature, behaves like a point source with slow and consistent release. Biochemical oxygen demand (BOD) shows intermediate characteristics between point and non-point source pollutants. The results of the PCA and CA for the spatial water quality data indicate that the cluster 1 of the watersheds was characterized as upstream watersheds with good water quality and high proportion of forest. The cluster 3 shows however indicates the most polluted watersheds with substantial discharge of BOD and nutrients from urban sewage, agricultural and industrial activities. The cluster 2 shows intermediate characteristics between the clusters 1 and 3. The results of hydrological simulation program-Fortran (HSPF) model simulation indicated that the seasonal patterns of BOD, T-N and T-P are affected substantially by agricultural and livestock farming activities, untreated wastewater, and environmental flow. The spatial analysis on the model results indicates that the highly-populated watersheds are the prior contributors to the water quality degradation of the river.

In high-density high-rise cities such as Hong Kong, buildings account for nearly 90% of energy consumption and 61% of carbon emissions. Therefore, it is important to study the design of buildings, especially high-rise buildings, to achieve lower carbon emissions in the city. The carbon emissions of a building consist of embodied carbon from the production of construction materials and operational carbon from energy consumption during daily operation (e.g., air-conditioning and lighting). An integrated analysis of both types of carbon emissions can strengthen the design of low carbon buildings, but most of the previous studies concentrated mainly on either embodied or operational carbon. Therefore, the primary objective of this study is to develop a holistic methodology framework considering both embodied and operational carbon, in order to enhance the sustainable design of low carbon high-rise buildings. The framework will be based on the building information modeling (BIM) technology because BIM can be integrated with simulation systems and digital models of different disciplines, thereby enabling a holistic design and assessment of low carbon buildings. Structural analysis program is first coupled with BIM to validate the structural performance of a building design. The amounts of construction materials and embodied carbon are then quantified by a BIM-based program using the Dynamo programming interface. Operational carbon is quantified by energy simulation software based on the green building extensible Markup Language (gbXML) file from BIM. Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) will be applied to analyze the ambient wind effect on indoor temperature and operational carbon. The BIM-based framework serves as a decision support tool to compare and explore more environmentally-sustainable design options to help reduce the carbon emissions in buildings.
Environmental test is divided into operation test and storage test. The temperature of storage test is induced temperature which is considered with all sort of the heat source. Induced temperature is the temperature to be adapted to each item and platform and can be induced by computer simulation, laboratory, and real field test. We considered the induced temperature to be associated with solar heat source. In this research. First, we compared the induced temperature which be occurred by one experiment for thin plate in solar test chamber with the other one which be occurred by computer simulation to be SolidWorks 2007 COSMOS FloWorks. After this verification, we showed induced temperature which can be occurred when the test item is stored. Especially, we bring out the induced temperature by applying the ambient temperatures which is presented by MIL-STD-810F and brought out in preceding research.

A series of simulations were carried out to test the accuracy of a CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) model for flow and dispersion problems around buildings. The basic equations involved are Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes equations. Two different cases were selected to estimate the accuracy of a CFD model. Case 1 adopted Euler equations, which are obtained by neglecting the viscous fluxes, which can be closed by the $textsc{k}$-$\varepsilon$model for a turbulent close problem. The results of both cases were compared with wind tunnel data. The results for Case 2 were closer to the wind both cases were compared with wind tunnel data. The results for Case 2 were closer to the wind tunnel data than Case 1. Accordingly, this indicates that the inclusion of viscous fluxes in a CFD model is required for the simulation of flow and 야spersion around buildings.
Electromagnetic interference (EMI) is defined as the interaction phenomena of electromagnetic waves scattered from a large structure or complex terrain. In this study, the propagation of linear wave is modeled with ray theory, direct simulation Monte Carlo (DSMC), and some classical theories on flat plates. The wave physics of reflection, refraction, and diffraction are simulated for the investigation of front and back scattering of the one-dimensional plane wave from a tower with ray theory and DSMC, respectively. The effect of rotating disk idealized from the real wind-turbine blades is modeled with a simplified version of the classical electromagnetic theory as well as DSMC based on the ray theory.
