Qualitative Approach: Business Scenarios for Sustainable Smart Cities Development

  • Purpose: Smart city has been observed to benefit most urban areas in different nations. Despite its advantages in the promotion of environmental sustainability and improving business competency in the current context, various literature review papers should be introduced to analyze its drawbacks. The present research aims to provide valuable suggestions for sustainable smart cities development. Research design, data and methodology: Using the qualitative content analysis (QCA), the current author could understand the target audience's motivations and habits by gathering data. This implies that the author may predict the kinds of future initiatives. As a result, the current researcher could ensure developed pertinent research questions and a well-planned method for analyzing the replies. Results: The implementation of green city development suggests encouraging the greening of public spaces and reducing heat from the atmosphere caused by the emission of gases from vehicles and companies. Smart cities are offering a new industrial paradigm that is based on the convergence of information technology. Conclusions: The projection illustrates that most people are migrating to the cities, which calls for an immediate transformation to overcome the immense pressure of making the city accessible, sustainable, prosperous, and safer. Therefore, implementing smart cities within the current world promotes efficiency and increases business sustainability.

ESG경영 공시전환에 대응하는 중대토픽 공시방법 연구-석유와 가스산업 중심으로 (A Study on the Disclosure Method of Major Topics in Response to the ESG Management Disclosure Transition-Focused on the Oil and Gas Industry)

  • Recently, due to the change to SASB(Sustainability Accounting Standards Board) and GRI(Global Reporting Initiative) Standards 2021, the paradigm for non-financial information disclosure is changing significantly, with the number of ESG topics and indicators that must be disclosed by industry from an autonomous material topic selection method. This study revealed that the number of compulsory topics in the oil and gas industry by GRI standards 2021 is up to 2.4 times higher than the average number of material topics disclosed when domestic companies publish sustainability reports using GRI Standards 2020. In the oil and gas industry, I analyzed the similarities and differences between the GRI standards 2021 and the ESG topics covered by SASB by environmental, social, economic, and governance areas. In addition, the materiality test process, which is different in GRI standards 2021, is introduced, and the issues included in the following 10 representative ESG-related initiatives are summarized into 62 and suggested improvement plans for materiality test used in the topic pool.

Evaluation of the geogrid-various sustainable geomaterials interaction by direct shear tests

  • In order to prevent environmental pollution, initiatives to increase the sustainability of resources are supported by society. However, the performance of recycled materials does not generally match that of natural materials. This study looks into the use of geogrid to improve various types of recycled aggregates. For this purpose, five different recycled aggregates were created by recycling wastes from the construction industry. Besides, direct shear tests (DS tests) were carried out on these recycled aggregates to determine their shear strengths. Following that, a triaxial geogrid was placed in the recycled aggregates to provide reinforcement, and the DS tests were conducted on the reinforced recycled aggregates. The results of the tests were also compared to those of tests performed on natural aggregates (NA). In conclusion, it was found that the recycled aggregates have lower shear strengths than the NA. Nonetheless, when reinforced with geogrid, the shear strength of the recycled concrete aggregates (RCA) and construction and demolition wastes (CDW) exceeded that of the NA. Furthermore, the geogrid reinforcement increased the shear strength of the recycled crushed bricks (CB), though not to the level of the NA.

Investigating Regions Vulnerable to Recurring Landslide Damage Using Time Series-Based Susceptibility Analysis: Case Study for Jeolla Region, Republic of Korea

  • As abnormal weather events due to climate change continue to rise, landslide damage is also increasing. Given the substantial time and financial resources required for post-landslide recovery, it becomes imperative to formulate a proactive response plan. In this regard, landslide susceptibility analysis has emerged as a valuable tool for establishing preemptive measures against landslides. Accordingly, this study conducted an annual landslide susceptibility analysis using the history of landslides that occurred over many years in the Jeolla region, and analyzed areas with a high potential for landslides in the Jeolla region. The analysis employed an ensemble model that amalgamated 10 data-based models, aiming to mitigate uncertainties associated with a single-model approach. Furthermore, based on the cumulative data regarding landslide susceptible areas, this research identified regions vulnerable to recurring landslide damage in Jeolla region and proposed specific strategies for utilizing this information at various levels, including local government initiatives, adaptation plan development, and development approval processes. In particular, this study outlined approaches for local government utilization, the determination of adaptation plan types, and considerations for development permits. It is anticipated that this research will serve as a valuable opportunity to underscore the significance of information concerning regions vulnerable to recurring landslide damage.

How to Apply Smart Tourism Characteristics to Hotel Management

  • Purpose: With the growth of the hospitality industry, it is imperative to identify how smart tourism characteristics may be used in hotel management. Current and emerging technologies such as analytic tools, automation, and Artificial Intelligence (AI) help to create value for the guests while also contributing to waste reduction, resource optimization, and increased profitability in the industry. Research design, data and methodology: The literature review was conducted to examine a broad scope of research in analyzing smart tourism characteristics for the improved management of hotels and establish the necessary background for this issue. The analysis was employed to specify the systematic approach of selecting, scrutinizing, and integrating the source of information. Results: According to the systematic literature analysis, four smart tourism characteristics have been established, which can improve various aspects of hotel management. They are as follows: (1) Smart Guest Experience Management, (2) Smart Operations and Resource Management, (3) Smart Customer Relationship Management, and (4) Smart Destination Management. Conclusions: The findings expose the radical approach that smart tourism characteristics take towards the management of hotels. The developments in IT and science-oriented solutions have opened greater opportunities as the hotel industry can enhance clients' satisfaction, productivity, and participation in environmental conservation initiatives for tourism.

A Study on the Significance and Revitalization of Local Currency

  • Purpose: This study aims to explore the significance and potential strategies for revitalizing local currency systems. Designed for use within specific regions or communities, local currencies play a crucial role in supporting and revitalizing local economies. By promoting local consumption and supporting local businesses, local currencies contribute to economic growth and job creation at the community level. Research design, data and methodology: The research methodology involves a comprehensive review of existing literature and various case studies to analyze the effectiveness and sustainability of local currencies. The literature review investigates the theoretical background and diverse implementation cases of local currencies, while the case studies identify the success factors and challenges faced by actual local currency initiatives. Results: This paper confirms that local currencies contribute to economic growth and job creation at the community level by promoting local consumption and supporting local businesses. Additionally, this study investigates the economic, social, and environmental impacts of local currencies. Conclusion: In conclusion, this study analyzes the challenges faced by local currency systems and proposes strategies to enhance their effectiveness and sustainability. These strategies are expected to provide practical assistance in the development and implementation of local currencies, contributing to the revitalization of local economies and the sustainable development of local communities.

Challenges in nuclear energy adoption: Why nuclear energy newcomer countries put nuclear power programs on hold?

  • The pressing need to mitigate greenhouse gas emissions has stimulated a renewed interest in nuclear energy worldwide. However, while numerous countries have shown interest in nuclear power over the course of history, many of them have not continued their pursuit and chosen to defer or abandon their peaceful nuclear power projects. Scrapping a national nuclear power program after making initial efforts implies significant challenges in such a course or a waste of national resources. Therefore, this study aims to identify the crucial factors that influence a country's decision to terminate or hold off its peaceful nuclear power programs. Our empirical analyses demonstrate that major nuclear accidents and leadership changes are significant factors that lead countries to terminate or defer their nuclear power programs. Additionally, we highlight that domestic politics (democracy), lack of military alliance with major nuclear suppliers, low electricity demand, and national energy security environments (energy import, crude oil price) can hamper a country's possibility of regaining interest in a nuclear power program after it has been scrapped, suspended, or deferred. The findings of this study have significant implications for policymakers and stakeholders in the energy sector as they strive to balance the competing demands of energy security, and environmental sustainability.

직장인의 직무만족과 자아정체감 및 심리적 안녕감과의 관계 (The Relationship between Job Satisfaction and Ego-Identity with Psychological Well-Being of The Office Workers)

  • 본 연구는 직장인의 직무만족과 자아정체감 및 심리적 안녕감이 서로 어떠한 관계에 있는지 알아보는 데에 목적이 있으며 이를 통해 직장인의 심리상담을 위한 기초 자료를 제공하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 서울과 경기, 인천지역의 직장인 264명을 대상으로 직무만족, 자아정체감, 심리적 안녕감의 정도를 측정하고, SPSS 12.0을 사용하여 상관분석과 회귀분석을 실시하였다. 그 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 직무만족은 심리적 안녕감의 긍정적 대인관계 및 자아정체감의 목표지향성과 다소 높은 상관을 보였으며, 자아정체감은 주도성을 제외한 모든 변인이 심리적 안녕감과 정적 상관을 보였다. 둘째, 직무만족은 심리적 안녕감의 대인관계, 자아수용성, 삶의 목적, 개인적 성장에 영향을 미쳤으나 자율성과 환경통제력에는 영향을 미치지 않는 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 자아정체감의 하위요인 중 주도성은 심리적 안녕감의 하위 요인 중 긍정적 대인관계에 부적 영향을 미쳤다. 넷째, 자아정체감의 하위요인 중 목표지향성은 직무만족에 정적인 영향을 미쳤으며, 정체감 혼미는 부적인 영향을 미쳤다. 다섯째, 직무만족과 자아정체감이 심리적 안녕감에 미치는 영향을 살펴 본 결과 전체적으로 높은 영향을 미쳤으며 특히 하위변인 중 삶의 목적을 높이 설명하고 있었다. 이러한 결과는 직장인들의 직무 만족을 높이고 자아정체감 형성을 높이는 것이 그들의 목표지향에 영향을 미치므로 조직의 성과를 높이는데 효과가 있을 것으로 예측된다.

미국 외부공간 친환경 인증(SITES) 사례분석을 통한 친환경 조성기법 및 평가체계 연구 (A Study on Sustainable Outdoor Design Strategies and Assessment System through Analysis of SITES Certified Projects)

  • 친환경 건축물만이 아닌 지속가능한 대지개발 및 외부환경 조성에 대한 관심과 중요성이 높아짐에 따라 미국에서는 기존 친환경 건축물 인증제인 LEED와는 별도로 Sustainable Sites Initiative(SITES)라는 인증체계를 구축하고, 이를 통해 다양한 유형의 외부공간의 친환경 요소들을 평가하고, 개발 전 과정동안 지속가능하고 통합적인 디자인이 실현되도록 유도하고 있다. 본 연구는 SITES 인증을 획득한 프로젝트들의 구체적인 친환경 전략과 적용기술 등을 분석함으로써, 친환경적인 외부공간 조성기법과 평가체계를 검토하고, 국내 외부환경 친환경 평가체계의 개선에 대한 시사점을 얻고자 하였다. SITES 인증을 받은 텍사스 지역 세 대상지의 친환경요소 분석결과, 건축물 중심의 친환경 인증과 달리 토양, 식생, 물 보전 등 조경분야에서의 다양하고 실질적인 친환경 전략과 방법들이 적용되고 있었다. 또한 인증과정을 통해 다양한 분야의 전문가들이 협력하고 소통하는 통합적 디자인과 주민들의 참여가 이루어지고, 환경교육 및 실천으로 이어질 수 있도록 하고 있다. 외부환경 및 녹지의 친환경적 평가기준이 부족한 현실에서 국내 상황에 적합한 현실적이고 실효성 있는 외부환경 친환경 인증 및 평가체계가 필요할 것으로 판단되며, 본 연구는 향후 이러한 논의를 위한 기초자료로 활용될 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.

  • 지구 환경문제가 국제적인 문제로 부상하면서 국제사회는 글로벌 이슈(기후 변화, 빈곤퇴치, 인권 등)를 해결하기 위해 지속가능발전이라는 새로운 패러다임을 제시하며, 17개의 지속가능발전목표(SDGs)를 실행하고자 다양한 조직적 노력을 시도하며 통합해오고 있다. 최근 파리기후협정과 SDGs 달성에 필요한 재원을 마련하고자 지속가능한 금융의 투자가 확대되며 비재무적 요소인 환경·사회·지배구조가 기업의 미래 경쟁우위와 수익성을 결정하는 중요한 무형자산이 되어, 국내외 기관 투자자와 자산운용사들은 ESG 성과를 기반으로 투자를 확대하고 있다. 본 연구의 목적은 기업의 사회적 책임활동과 ESG 성과 정보 공개를 요구하는 국제적 기준과 이니셔티브를 도출하고, 건설기업의 ESG 활동 및 성과 수준을 분석하고자 한다. 본 연구의 결과는 향후 건설산업이 코로사19 사태, 탄소 중립, 중대 재해 발생 등으로 당면한 위기를 극복할 수 있도록 ESG 생태계를 구축하고, 무형자산 측정 및 관리를 위한 플랫폼 개발의 기본 자료로 활용되어 녹색 금융이 주는 비지니스 기회와 일자리 창출 등 사회적 가치 실현에 기여할 수 있을 것이다.
