The $H_{\infty}$ entropy in $H_{\infty}$ control theory is discussed based on investigating information transmission in continuous-time linear stochastic systems. It is proved that the stabilizing feedback does not change the time-average information transmission between system input and output, and the $H_{\infty}$ entropies of open- and closed-loop stable transfer functions are bounded by mutual information rate between input and output in the open-loop system. Furthermore, a new $H_2$ upper bound for $H_{\infty}$ entropy is introduced with a numerical example. Thus the $H_{\infty}$ entropy of a stable transfer function is sandwiched between $H_2$ norms of the original system and a static feedback system.

The study of unsteady gas exchange processes in the inlet and exhaust systems of the single-cylinder 4-stroke cycle spark ignition engine is presented in this paper. The generalized method of characteristics including friction, heat transfer, change of flow area and entropy gradients was used for solving the equations defining the gas exchange process. The path line calculation was also conducted to allow for calculation of the gas composition and entropy change along the path lines, and of the variable specific heat due to the change of temperature and composition. As the result of the simulation, the properties at each point in the inlet and exhaust pipe, pressure and temperature in the cylinder, and charging efficiency were obtained. Pumping loss and residual gas fraction were also computed. The effect of engine speed, exhaust and inlet pipe length on the pumping loss and charging efficiency were studied showing that the results were in agreement with what has been known from experiments.
We present a real-time monitoring system for detecting anomalous network events using the entropy. The entropy accounts for the effects of disorder in the system. When an abnormal factor arises to agitate the current system the entropy must show an abrupt change. In this paper we deliberately model the Internet to measure the entropy. Packets flowing between these two networks may incur to sustain the current value. In the proposed system we keep track of the value of entropy in time to pinpoint the sudden changes in the value. The time-series data of entropy are transformed into the two-dimensional domains to help visually inspect the activities on the network. We examine the system using network traffic traces containing notorious worms and DoS attacks on the testbed. Furthermore, we compare our proposed system of time series forecasting method, such as EWMA, holt-winters, and PCA in terms of sensitive. The result suggests that our approach be able to detect anomalies with the fairly high accuracy. Our contributions are two folds: (1) highly sensitive detection of anomalies and (2) visualization of network activities to alert anomalies.

In past years, theoretical controversy involving a realistic and physical mechanism that leads to large magnetic entropy change as a large magneto-caloric effect in colossal magneto-resistance (CMR) materials had been left as an open question. Thus it is desirable to clarify this problem. (omitted)
In this paper, we propose a novel segmentation and classification method using texture features for the document image. First, we extract the local entropy and then segment the document image to separate the background and the foreground using the Otsu's method. Finally, we classify the segmented regions into each component using PCA(principle component analysis) algorithm based on the texture features that are extracted from the co-occurrence matrix for the entropy image. The entropy-based segmentation is robust to not only noise and the change of light, but also skew and rotation. Texture features are not restricted from any form of the document image and have a superior discrimination for each component. In addition, PCA algorithm used for the classifier can classify the components more robustly than neural network.
The adsorption behaviors of two major components purified, endo Ⅱ and exo Ⅱ, from Trichoderma viride were investigated using microcrystalline cellulose with different specific surface area as substrates. Adsorption was found to apparently obey the Langmuir isotherm and the thermodynamic parameters, ΔH, ΔS, and ΔG, were calculated from adsorption equilibrium constant,K. The adsorption process was found to be endothermic and an adsorption entropy-controlled reaction. The amount of adsorption of cellulase components increased with specific surface area and decreased with temperature and varied with a change in composition of the cellulase components. The maximum synergistic degradation occurred at the specific weight ratio of the cellulase components at which the maximum affinity of cellulase components obtains. The adsorption entropy and enthalpy for respective enzyme system increased with specific surface area increase. The adsorption entropy was shown to have a larger value with enzyme mixture.
In the prior study, the mechanical properties and the dyeability of the easily dyeable polyester grim(EDY) were investigated. In this study, to interpret the dyeing behavior of EDY with C. I. Disperse Violet 1, the thermodynamic parameters of dyeing, such as the standard affinity, the heat of dyeing(the enthalpy change), the entropy change, the diffusion coefficient, and the activation energy of diffusion, were obtained from adsorption isotherms and dyeing rate at various temperatures and compared to these of regular polyester (REG-PET). The heat of dyeing(the enthalpy change) and the entropy change for EDY showed smaller negative values than those for REG-PET. This means that the dye molecules in the EDY are combined more loosely than in the REG-PET and that is due to the flexibility of polymer chains of EDY. The diffusion coefficients of C. I. Disperse Violet 1 into the EDY were larger than those for REG-PET, and the activation energy of diffusion on EDY was smaller than that on REG-PET.

Korea professional baseball industry has grown to take the lion's share of the domestic sports industry, but still does not make break even. The purpose of this study is to examine the financial impact of adopting the Customer Relation Management (CRM) approach on the profitability of Korea professional baseball industry. We use a measuring tool called entropy used in ID3 decision tree algorithm. In the paper, we specify five the most important factors that affect spectator satisfaction based on the previous literature, perform survey analysis, calculate entropy values, and find the results. We predicted the change in revenues when we adopt CRM by checking the spectators' willingness to pay more when the conditions of each factor are improved. We find that we can reap significant fruits of the effect of CRM introduction through enhancing 'game content factor' and 'game promotion factor' among the five factors. We also find that we can increase the revenues of domestic professional baseball teams to 2.4 times or 2.1 times the current level if we manage intensively those two factors respectively. It is very surprising to see that the improvement in total revenues makes both ends meet for domestic professional baseball teams. This clearly demonstrates the effectiveness of CRM approach in improving the profitability of organizations.
The objective of this study is to analyze the effect of velocity and vorticity on stratified mixture formation in the visualization engine. In order to investigate spray behavior, the pray velocity is obtained through the cross-correlation PIV method, a useful optical diagnostics technology and the vorticity calculated from the spray velocity component. These results elucidated the relationship between vorticity and entropy, which play an important role in the diffusion process for the early injection case and the stratification process for the late injection case. In addition, we quantified the homogeneous diffusion ate of spray using entropy analysis based on Boltzmann's statistical thermodynamics. Using these methods, we discovered that the homogeneous mixture distribution is more effective as a momentum dissipation of surrounding air than that of the spray concentration with a change in the injection timing. We found that the homogenous diffusion rate increased as the injection timing moved to the early intake stroke process, and BTDC $60^{\circ}$ was the most efficient injection timing for the stratified mixture formation during the compression stroke.
The focus of this work is placed on the analysis of the mixture formation mechanism under the evaporative diesel spray of impinging and free conditions. As an experimental parameter, ambient gas density was selected. Effects of density variation of ambient gas on liquid and vapor-phase inside structure of evaporation diesel spray were investigated. Ambient gas density was changed between ${\rho}a=5.0\;kg/m^3$ and $12.3\;kg/m^3$. In the case of impinging spray, the spray spreading to the radial direction is larger due to the decrease of drag force of ambient gas in the case of the low density than that of the high density. On the other hand, in the case of free spray, in accordance with the increase in the ambient gas density, the liquid-phase length is getting short due to the increase in drag force of ambient gas. In order to examine the homogeneity of mixture consisted of vapor-phase fuel and ambient gas in the spray, image analysis was conducted with statistical thermodynamics based on the non-dimensional entropy (S) method. In the case of application of entropy analysis to diesel spray, the entropy value always increases. The entropy of higher ambient density is higher than that of lower ambient gas density during initial injection period.
