This research was conducted to develop the demand function and to estimate an increase of national parks visitors considering abolition of entrance fee, using dichotomous choice contingent valuation. Also, this study estimated the additional management cost with an increase of visitors. As a result, an average increase rate was estimated about 5.8% considering abolition of entrance fee. Each increase rate of national park is analyzed Bukhansan 9.0%, Gyeryongsan 8.5%, Deogyusan 8.2%, respectively. Seoraksan is the lowest rate of increase, 3.0%. Total additional management cost of 18 national parks was estimated about 5.6 billion won, Bukhansan 1.4 billion won, Jirisan 0.7 billion won, Dadohaehaesang 0.5 billion won, respectively.
Arguments against charging fees for use of recreational forests and parks generally rest on the assumption that the public sector has the responsibility to provide as many recreational opportunities as it can to all visitors in Korea. The entrance fee in recreational forests allowed some governmental resource management agencies to keep a portion of user fees generated on-site, instead of returning all revenue to the general treasury. Funded primarily through entrance, activity, parking, and mountain villa-use fees, this legislation has been successful in reducing the maintenance backlog for participating agencies. However, it is unclear what effect user fees might have on visitors attending interpretive programs and the benefits that agencies might receive from implementing this policy. From this point of view, this study is a similar case at the Visitor Center and Species Restoration Center at Jirisan in terms of fee-based field trips to the places. In this research, two hundred twenty-three visitors at the Visitor Center and Species Restoration Center at Jirisan National Park answered questions about their trips from 2005 to 2006. Results indicted that the ecoguide not only increased visitor's appreciation of the resource, but also enhanced their perceptions of the Korean National Park Service (KNPS) fee policies.

The purpose of this research is to valuate the economic value of the arboretum which will be provided in Multifunctional Administrative City by estimating citizens' willingness to pay with double-bounded dichotomous choice contingent valuation method, and to provide the basic information necessary for designing and managing it for the future by identifying the types of the variables affecting the WTP. It was found that respondent's average WTP for arboretum was \23,508, and when this figures applied to all the Seoul citizens aged between 20 and 59, the economic value of it was \157,000,000,000. The variables affecting the amount of WTP were visit intention, variety seeking tendency, level of income and environmental attitude. However, environmental attitude negatively affected the amount of WTP. Average WTP for the entrance fee was \5,090, and both variety seeking tendency and visit intention were influencing factor affecting the amount of WTP. Respondents were taking charging entrance fee for granted because most of arboretums are commercial. It can be expected that much of maintenance cost will be covered from the entrance fee.

The purposes of this study are to estimate the economic value and reasonable entrance fee of the Yeido Park, which is under construction in Seoul, by conduct the face-to-face interview. A total of 645 daults were selected by two stage cluster sampling. The senario was designed to meet the requirements for doubgle-bounded dichotomous choice CVM, and distributed with the photograph to epict and compare the current and suggested conditions. A donation vehicle and entrance fee were utilized to find the possibility of strategic behaviors and protest zero, and to make the data estimatable tfor interval censored survival analysis. Date was calibrated by the survival analysis to eleminate the 'fat-tail problem'. Weibull distribution was assumed as a baseline distrubution. The mean WTP of donation and entrance fee was ₩5,281 and ₩783, respectively. The economic value of this park was determined by aggregating the mean value, giving a total WTP for the population of ₩36,861,645,000. This economic value was composed with the use value and existence value. The calibrationi of the Weibull proportional hazard model showed that nearness to the park, age, intention to isit the park, and educational attainment were significant independent variable to influence an amount of donation.
The research is basically designed to reveal a revisiting behavior for Chung Nam Dae which is inherently characterized sightseeing site. Distributional lag model is tentatively employed to analyze economic factors such as entrance fee and a different level of income. Empirical findings investigate that the revisiting behavior that is associated with a long run effect is more closely connected to the level of national income, but not the level of incomes in Chung Cheong region and Chung Buk province as well. As far as revisiting intention concerns, the entrance fee tends to affect to it by a shorter distributional lag, but the level of income affects to it by way of a pretty much longer distributional lags. To this end, perceived value for Chung Nam Dae should be exposed in order to induce a re-visitor. Such a goal could be attainable by taking care of its system for entrance fee, expanding facilities, re-branding, service improvement, and developing useful programs. Also, setting up an inter-connected networking system with a sightseeing site around is highly recommended.

Research and conservation of plant species for the nation arboretum, collection and securing of the plant species for both public and private arboreta and education for the arboreta which is affiliated to the university are overall management goal of the arboreta in Korea. Most of the arboreta in Korea run the programs and events for guide and interpretation of forest, but the programs and events are not well specified by the arboreta. Regarding the reasonable level of entrance fee should be discussed further as the lack of information and understanding. But the specified entrance fee between public and private arboreta should be considered. An eighty three percent of arboreta in Korea has been properly managed the species information. The reasonable management should be considered in case of unusual management of collected plant genetic resources. Although the overall impending difficulties for the management of arboreta in Korea is the lack of trained or qualified staffs, securing tasks independently for the public arboreta and relatively low salary for the private arboreta are main difficulties. Most of the difficulties are derived from the lack of its mission of the arboreta. The management of arboreta by the mission statement is one of the core targets including the characters such as climate or region should be considered. The securing qualified or trained staffs should be considered in the development of arboreta in Korea including the modification of relevant regulations or law.
The purpose of this paper was to identify the effects of elimination of entrance fee (EEF) affecting visitor's satisfaction (VS) and management sectors such as natural resources (NRs), park facilities, transportation, visitor service, visitor atmosphere (VA) in national parks (NPs). This research had obtained data through a questionnaire, which surveyed 336 visitors at Gayasan NP in 2006. The data were analyzed the data using descriptive statistical methods, Pearson's correlation analysis, and multiple linear regression method. It was found that 1) About EEF, 72.6% of respondents agreed. 2) As entrance fee was abolished, respondents predicted that degree of VA such as crowding, waste throwing, disorder etc. grew worse most. On the other hands, respondents predicted number and quality of commercial lodging facilities, festival, and local products would improved. 3) Respondents predicted that degree of VS would worse. 4) in multiple regression analysis, the relative contribution of the VA on VS have been determined to have respectively 1.84 times more important than that of the change degree of NRs. The results suggested that the management of VA in NP was the most important factor to prevent decline of VS. This paper would be helpful to establish national park management policy after EEF.

The purpose of this research is to identify satisfaction levels of the arboretum which will be provided in the Multifunctional Administrative City and to estimate the economic value of using choice experiments. The attributes were "Preservation", "Education", "Recreation", "Facility", "Accessibility" and the entrance fee. The main effects model was utilized to construct hypothetical alternatives. Calibration of the conjoint choice model revealed that 'wetlands' and 'forest trails' in "Preservation" and the "Recreation", respectively, were significant variables. This result indicates that respondents are willing to pay more for these if they are provided in the arboretum. Also, 'variety seeking' tendency, age, and income level positively influenced the provision of the arboretum. Involvement in preservation of natural environment, however, had a negative influence on the establishment of the arboretum. Because this study is the first attempt to estimate the economic valuation of an urban arboretum using choice experiment, there are several suggestions for future research in terms of determining the base level and inclusion of salient attribute levels.
For understanding the tourists' characteristics of several types of ecotourism sites, we surveyed and analyzed the demographic characteristics, travel motivations and cognition of damage in Bukhansan trail, Upo marshes, Jirisan trail and Uljin Keumgang pine tree trail. The field survey were conducted through face-to-face interviews. In the case of Bukhansan trail, many people came to build up their health, so the ratio of eco-tourists and the awareness of environmental damage was low. In Upo marshes, there were many group tourists who want to enhance friendship between the colleagues. And the ratio of eco-tourists, enjoying several activities such as observation or experience about the ecosystems of wetland and bird watching appeared high, but the cognition of tourists about the damage of natural environment was low because the flatland type tour site, Upo marshes has less damage factors comparing with mountain type tour sites. In Jirisan trail, eco-tourists, nature tourists and mass tourists appeared mixed and the cognition of damage was higher than that of flatland type. In the case of Uljin Keumgang pine tree trail, almost indices showed higher values than other sites because the tourists who visited there have high cognition of eco-tourism and nature conservation by limiting entrance. Tourists were generally accepted positively the control method such as collection of entrance fee and visitor reservation system when natural damages are expected.
The purpose of this study was to investigate Visitors' satisfaction at Eco-Agriculture/Organic Food Expo held in Uljin in 2005. The questionnaire survey with 1,120 participants was conducted at the venue for three times from July 22nd to August 15th, 2005. The evaluation considered Expo facilities and services, and motives of visit along with demographics of 1,080 valid samples. Evaluation results indicate overall satisfaction level of Expo participation was positive and 63.6% of the respondents showed intention of revisit and/or future visit to agricultural events. Expo facilities and service represented higher satisfaction level, however cost factors such as food and beverage, souvenirs and entrance fee had lower performance levels. The study outcome can help local governments and/or organizers host hallmark tourist events in planning and managing.
