  • Solar energy depends on the altitude and azimuth of the sun, and the amount of energy collected on the slope depends on the latitude of the area being installed. However, since most solar heating systems are fixed to the ground, it is necessary to analyze the optimal installation angle from the early design stage. However, problems arise when energy consumption is not considered together because heating systems are not used in the summer In this study, the optimum installation angles of the solar collectors according to the latitude of the installation area are not simply determined by the amount of energy collected, but because the system is overheated due to climate change or energy usage patterns, And the amount of additional energy input.

  • Greenhouses gas emission due to usage of fossil fuel has been known as one of the main causes of global warming. Fundamentally, greenhouse gas is a by-product of economic activity. Since majority of economic activity happens in an urban setting, a countermeasure in an urban setting is needed. Therefore, an analysis of relationship between carbon dioxide emission and urban form will be investigated for urban planning and management in the future. The purpose of this study is to analyze the relationship between carbon dioxide emission and urban spatial patterns, and suggesting an urban form with low carbon dioxide emission. In order to achieve this, first theoretical analysis was carried out on urban spatial patterns related to physical size, usage rate, and activity level. Secondly, Seoul's dam on electricity, natural gas, local heating, petroleum, and water usage and mapping a carbon dioxide emission map. Thirdly, relationship between carbon dioxide emission and urban spatial patterns are analyzed and urban spatial patterns that affects energy usage in urban setting was elucidated, and elicited implications on future directions on urban planning based on our analyses above.

  • In this paper, we suggest a usage profiles for electric home appliances. In Korea, it is published the records for total consumption of electricity in a house but the electric home appliance consumption records in a households are not. To build the data, we must collect the usage of every appliances in a house and the information of the household which live in the house. Unfortunately, it is hard to get the data because of the worry about the breach of privacy. In this paper, we make a scenarios on the electricity consumption pattern of a few households type. Based on the conjecture, we make the power consumption profiles for some home appliances. Comparison to the total electric consumption records for a house, we found our scenarios are quite reasonable.

  • Biogas production and utilization are an emerging alternative energy technology. Biogas is produced from the biological breakdown of organic matter through anaerobic digestion. Biogas can be utilized for various energy sectors such as space heating, electricity generation and vehicle fuel. Especially, to be utilized as vehicle fuel, raw biogas needs to be upgraded that is mainly the removal of carbon dioxide to increase the methane content up to more than 95 ~ 97 vol% in some cases, similar to the composition of fossil-based natural gas. Usage of Biogas as a fuel of vehicles have an effect of reducing $CO_2$ emission compared to fossil fuels. Biomethane which is produced by upgrading of biogas is regarded as a good alternative energy and usage of clean energy is encouraged to deal with air pollution and waste management as well as production of clean energy. Recently, biogas projects for vehicle fuel are newly being launched and Korea government have also announced a plan for investment to develop biogas as a transport fuel. In this study, it is aimed to examine the potential feasibility of biomethane as a transport fuel. As a results, the status of biomethane, quality standard, quality characteristics, and upgrading technology of biogas were investigated to evaluate of biogas as a vehicle fuel of transportation.

  • The regulations to reduce energy consumption and carbon dioxide emission in building sectors are being developed and promoted all over the world. However, in Korea, as balcony extension of the apartments has been legally allowed, it became prevalent and resulted in excessive energy consumption. This study derived the possibility of PCM application to the thermal storage wall system through theoretical consideration and investigated the problems occurring when the balcony space has been extended to the diverted space. In addition, this study aims at the possibility of verifying the installation and confirming the cooling energy reduction effect, by conducting measuring tests with the actual installation of PCM applied thermal storage wall system. As a result of theoretical consideration, it is determined that the disadvantages with the existing thermal storage wall system can be complemented by applying PCM, and this study suggests the PCM applied Thermal Storage Wall System. The study was conducted on 1/6 of a miniature inner room of a domestic apartment with 84 $m^2$ of exclusive area. From the results of actual measurements, it is confirmed that the balcony extension structure can gain 11.3% of more calories than the existing balcony structure, resulting in the increase in cooling energy usage. It is determined that the installation of the PCM applied Thermal Storage Wall System may gain 25.2% of less calories to reduce cooling energy usage.

  • Sustainable design is getting to be controversial issue in all industries over the world particularly, in architecture as the amount of energy usage in architecture occupies 40%. Therefore, it is essential to make the standard for the sustainable design. In order to construct the sustainable design, firstly it should be considered that sustainable design elements based on natural resources to increase building energy efficiency is established and classified. The method of sustainable design divides into passive design and active design. Passive design method should be examined with active one simultaneously for more efficient usage of energy. Next, the study is followed how the sustainable design elements is adopted in buildings through the comparison of cases study of domestic and oversea. The result of case study shows similar adoption of sustainable design elements between oversea and domestic. However, the difference is shown in the building orientation and shape and the window size and position in Solar energy as well as high performance structure in Heat energy. These elements are the most significant elements in order to reduce energy load. In oversea, sustainable design is generated by architects, a client, and consultants based on the close cooperation in the beginning of early design phase before deciding building shape and envelope while in the domestic field adoption for sustainable design is conducted after deciding building shape and material. In order to design sustainable architecture more study is necessary in early stage for Zero Carbon and reducing building energy load through relation with specialists, a client and architects.

  • In our country, which imports 97% of the energy consumed, an energy saving policy is required. The price inflation of utility bills is caused by a steep rise in the prices of imported oil. This study aims to solve the difficulties that cause poor environmental conditions for workers in the energy services sector, and especially, to systematize energy consumption reports to manage energy goals by suggesting an example of written energy-saving reports. To this end, this research focuses on energy consumption of target facilities including office spaces in a main building and multi-use facilities of an office building. A system where all employees can participate is structured through the analysis of energy usage in the target buildings.

  • Recently the renewable energy has been used widely and the importance of renewable sources is bigger than before. So the government enforced a law to the public buildings to install the renewable energy facilities. The capacity of facilities is 5% of total construction cost until April 13, 2011. Since then, the government changed the law from 5% of total construction cost to 10% of predicted energy usage because of the practical use of the renewable energy facilities. So, in this study, the comparative analysis is conducted according to the law to the building installed PV system through the EnergyPlus simulation.
