Saemangeum reclamation project was started in 1991 with the purpose of eco-friendly reclamation, but without clear definition of eco-friendliness. This study was carried out to find out the environmental indicators to define and evaluate the eco-friendliness of Saemangeum project. The methodology to identify the indicators included the analysis of similar reclamation projects, professional discussions, and Delphi survey. The eco-friendly indicators are theoretically based on the five elements of eco-friendliness; 1) resource consumption, 2) energy consumption, 3) pollution emission, 4) bio-diversity, 5) social amenity. The 69 indicators were explained in detail for the convenient use of the indicators by the potential users. The 69 indicators were classified into three categories such as pre-evaluation, process evaluation, and post-evaluation. In terms of spatial consideration, the 69 indicators were classified into two categories such as direct influence area and indirect influence area. Also the 69 indicators were classified into 7 categories: 1) sea, 2) lake, 3) agricultural land use, 4) industrial land use, 5) residential land use, 6) tourism land use, and 7) environmental land use. Twenty core indicators were selected from the 69 indicators by surveying the importance of each indicator. The core indicators are recommended in case of time and budget strain. When there are few quantitative data accumulated for the reclamation project, 5 macro indicators are recommended to be used. Macro indicators are qualitative in nature, and may be used in order to evaluate the overall eco-friendliness of a reclamation project.
With aggravation of environmental contamination and energy resource exhaustion, Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEV) that can be economically operated with low fuel consumption are receiving greater attention. For performance improvement of such HEV, the development of efficient transmission can be seen as one of core technologies such as performance of components and driving strategy. Dual clutch transmission (DCT) is actively studied as a transmission type for HEV due to its advantages of having excellent power transmission efficiency based on manual transmission characteristic, resolving the problem of power interruption, and realizing driving convenience of automatic transmission (AT). In this paper, one diesel HEV equipped with 6-Speed DCT, modelled using MATLAB/Simulink, and a performance simulator developed for this vehicle are introduced. Driving simulation with driving cycles such as FTP75 and NYCC was performed using the developed performance simulator, and the simulated results regarding state of charge and fuel economy, when AT and DCT are applied to this diesel hybrid vehicle respectively, are compared. This performance simulator can be utilized to develop a control algorithm for improving the fuel economy of HEV with DCT.
The study aims to analyze economic viability of Integrated Gasification Combined Cycle, an innovative technology to utilize clean coal effectively and efficiently in the era of energy crisis. The study is conducted to evaluate business value of 300 MW IGCC demonstration plant technology development based on binomial option, in consideration of uncertainty of fuel price. Binomial option is one of the real option valuation methods, which is ideally suited to irreversible decision making under uncertainty. With this analysis, it shows that investment value is higher compared with economic evaluation based on discounted cash flow, since this method can measure quantity. As a result, this study is proved to be economically feasible, which have a positive impact on the next generation of IGCC and the connection with Carbon Capture and Storage.

The Korean construction industry has been implementing G-SEED, a certification system that evaluates the environmental properties of buildings for the purpose of reducing environmental burdens such as energy and resource consumption and pollutant emissions. Also, creating a pleasant environment in general is one more purpose of G-SEED certification system. However, G-SEED certification in practice is difficult and time consuming due to the complexity of the certification acquisition process coupled with little economic consideration for the materials of each certification item. Therefore, in this study, we present a model for the optimal selection of materials and economic assessment using a genetic algorithm. The development of the model involves building a material database based on life-cycle costing (LCC) targeted at "Application of Indoor Air Pollutant Low Emission Material" from G-SEED. Next, the model was validated using a real non-residential building case study. The result shows an average cost reduction rate of 74.5 % compared with the existing cost. This model is expected to be used as an economically efficient tool in G-SEED.

With the continuous development of the current industry, the current global environment is in a very serious situation, with resource supply and demand dependent on imports and huge costs for waste disposal due to the depletion of resources and mass generation of industrial waste. Its limitations have already been revealed in many fields, and the importance of re-manufacturing is drawing attention as a countermeasure to these problems. Re-manufacturing aims to recover products that are in the aging and disposal stages, recover to performance close to new products, and re-commercialize them. Among them, most of the machine tools are made of materials such as steel and cast iron with large structures, and raw materials are widely used when producing new products. In addition, since a lot of carbon is generated due to production, it is an object that can obtain a great re-manufacturing effect. Planner millers belonging to large machine tools are one of the machine tool equipment that can greatly reduce resources and energy through re-manufacturing because the structure is very large and the casting is several to tens of tons. Through this machine tool, performance tests and results are derived on the development of re-manufacturing source technology and domestic servo motor and CNC control device.
Sustained economic development around the world is accelerating resource depletion. Research and development of secondary batteries that can replace them is also being actively conducted. Secondary batteries are emerging as a key technology for carbon neutrality. The core of an electric vehicle is the battery (secondary battery). Therefore, in this study, the temperature change by the heat source of the hammer and the rotational speed (rpm) of the abrasive disc of the Classifier Separator Mill (CSM) was repeatedly calculated and analyzed using the heat flow simulation STAR-CCM+. As the rotational speed (rpm) of the abrasive disk increases, the convergence condition of the iteration increases. Under the condition that the inlet speed of the Classifier Separator Mill (CSM) and the heat source value of the disc hammer are the same, the disc rotation speed (rpm) and the hammer temperature are inversely proportional. As the rotational speed (rpm) of the disc increases, the hammer temperature decreases. However, since the wear rate of the secondary battery material increases due to the strong impact of the crushing rotational force, it is determined that an appropriate rpm setting is necessary. In CSM (Classifier Separator Mill), it is judged that the flow rate difference is not significantly different in the direction of the pressure outlet (Outlet 1) right above the classifier wheel with the fastest flow rate. Because the disc and hammer attachment technology is adhesive, the attachment point may deform when the temperature of the hammer rises. Therefore, it is considered necessary to develop high-performance adhesives and other adhesive technologies.

BACKGROUND: Currently, national biomass inventory are being established for efficient management of the potential energy sources. Among the various types of biomass, agricultural wastes are considered to take the biggest portion of the total annual biomass generated in Korea, implying its importance. However, the currently estimated amount is not reliable because the old reference data are still used to estimate total annual amount of agricultural wastes. METHODS AND RESULTS: Therefore, to provide reliable estimation data, a correct conversion factor obtained by taking into account the current situation is required. For this, the current study was conducted to provide the conversion factors for each representative 8 crop through a field cultivation study. Also conversion factors for 18 crops were calculated using the average amount of each crop produced during 2004 and 2008, subsequently; total amount of agricultural wastes generated in 2009 was estimated using these conversion factors. The total biomass of rice straw and rice husk generated in 2009 were 6.5 and 1.1 million tons, respectively, which consist 75% of the total agricultural based wastes, while the total biomass of pepper shoots and apple pruning twigs were 1.0 and 0.6 million tons, respectively. Despite the high amount of rice-based biomass, their applicability for bio-energy production is low due to conventional utilization of these materials for animal feeds and beds for animal husbandry. In addition to exact estimation of the total biomass, temporal variations in both generated amount and the type of agricultural biomass materials are also important for efficient utilization; fruit pruning twigs (January to March); barley-, been-, and mustard-related waste materials (April to June); rice-related waste (September to October). CONCLUSION(s): Such information provided in this study can be used to establish a master plan for efficient utilization of the agricultural wastes on purpose of bio-energy production.

This study attempted to derive the possibility of using wood pellet using rice husk, which is an agricultural byproduct, and tried to improve the lower calorific value of rice hulls thorough expansion technology and combustion additives. In the physical and chemical analysis of rice husk, the result was obtained that the chlorine content was 0.09%, which did not meet the wood pellet quality standard of Korea. When making rice hulls into expanded rice husk through the expansion technology, the chlorine content decreased, resulting in a product of 0.02%, which is equivalent to the wood pellet standard of Korea, and the calorific value was also increased to 4,280 kcal/kg compared to the existing 3,780 kcal/kg. To obtain a product of 5,000 kcal/kg or more, borax, hydrogen peroxide, and sodium hydroxide was used as combustion improver. However the improvement in calorific value was insufficient. After conversion to coffee oil path using coffee grounds, which is a waste resource biomass, it is mixed into an expanded rice husk, and when the product is analyzed, the coffee oil 15 wt% mixed product shows an excess of 4,949 kcal/kg. When using rice husk, an agricultural byproduct, as wood pellets, it is considered desirable to use waste resources to improve the calorific value, and according to the results of this study, when mixing coffee oil, rice husk can be sufficiently used as wooden pellets.

To address the problems associated with climate change and energy shortage, Korea has been making efforts to turn waste materials into usable energy. Due to the ongoing efforts to convert waste materials into energy, waste incineration is expanding to utilize the heat generated, and the subsequent greenhouse gas emissions from these waste material incineration are expected to increase. In this study, a municipal waste incineration plant that generates heat and electricity through heat recovery was selected as a subject facility. Methods for estimating the greenhouse gas emissions in the municipal waste incineration plant that was selected as a subject plant were sought, and the greenhouse gas emissions and emission factor were estimated. The $CO_2$ concentrations in discharge gas from the subject facility were on average 6.99%, and the result from calculating this into greenhouse gas emissions showed that the total amount of emissions was $254.60ton\;CO_2/day$. The net emissions, excluding the amount of greenhouse gas emitted from biomass incineration, was shown to be $110.59ton\;CO_2/day$. In addition, after estimating the emissions by separating the heat and electricity generated in the incineration facility, greenhouse gas emission factors were calculated using the greenhouse gas emissions produced per each unit of output. The estimated emission factor for heat was found to be $0.047ton\;CO_2/GJ$ and the emission factor for electricity was found to be $0.652ton\;CO_2/MWh$. The estimated emission factor was shown to be about 17% lower than the $0.783ton\;CO_2/MWh$ emission factor for thermal power plants that use fossil fuels. Waste material types and fossil carbon contents were evaluated as being the factors that have major effects on the greenhouse gas emissions and emission factor.

Thailand had issued a national strategic development master plan with issues related to water resources and water security in the entire water management. Water resources are an important factor of living and development of the country's socio-economy to be stable, prosperous and sustainable. Therefore, water management in both multidimensional and multi-sectoral systems is important and will supports socio-economic and environmental development. The direction of national development in accordance with the national strategic framework for 20 years that requires the country to level up security level in terms of water, energy and food. To response to the proposed goals, there is a subplan to increase water productivity of the entire water system for economical development use by evaluating use value and to create more value added from water use to meet international standard level. This study aims to evaluate the water productivity of Thailand in each basin and all sectors such as agricultural sector, service and industrial sectors by using the water use data from water account analysis and GDP data from NESDB during the past 10 years (1996-2015). The comparison of water productivity with other countries will also be conducted and in addition, the measures to improve water productivity in next 20 years will be explored to response to the National Strategic Master Plan goals. Water productivity is defined as output per unit of water depleted. The simplest way to compare water productivity across different enterprises is in monetary terms. World Bank presents water productivity as an indication of the efficiency by which each country uses its water resources. There are two data sets used for water productivity analyses, i.e., the first is water use data at end users and the second is Gross Domestic Product. The water use at end users are estimated by water account method based on the System of Environmental-Economic Accounting for Water (SEEA-Water) concept of United Nations. The water account shows the analyses of the water balance between the use and supply of each water resource in physical terms. The water supply and use linkage in the water account analyses separated into each phases, i.e., water sources, water managers, water service providers, water user at end user under water regulators of all kinds of water use activities such as household, industrial, agricultural, tourism, hydropower, and ecological conservation uses. The Gross Domestic Product (GDP), a well- known measuring method of the national economic growth is not actually a comprehensive approach to describe all aspects of national economic status, since GDP does not take into account the costs of the negative impacts to natural resources that result from the overexploitation of development projects, however, at present, integrating the environment with the economy of a country to measure its economic growth with GDP is acceptable worldwide. The study results will show the water use at each basin, use types at end users, water productivity in each sector from 1996-2015 compared with other countries, Besides the productivity improvement measures will be explored and proposed for the National Strategic Master Plan.
