  • This study examines the efficiency of engineering education using DEA(data envelopment analysis) which is often used in the efficiency evaluation of public services. We evaluate 27 mechanical engineering departments according to academy-basis, general basis, and employment-basis considering students' academic level and input costs as input factors. Our empirical results suggest that an evaluation method using DEA can give us useful informations such as benchmarks to improve education specialization where it is desirable, decisions about whether a department should expand its gross input or not, and proper directions about which input factors should be controlled and how much control is needed.

Looking at average analysis by question, the value of most questions on Employment & Start-up Courses turned out to be lower than Employment Courses and CEO Courses. 2. Through a variance analysis on questions related to educational courses (Employment & Start-up Course, Incumbent Course & CEO Course) and post-verification, it turned out that Employment Course is in the same group as the CEO Course in most questions, and that Employment & Start-up Course was a separate group. 3. Overall satisfaction with education turned out to be as high, at 4.1 out of 5. 4. Through a portfolio analysis on educational courses, it was found that 'Overall Satisfaction with Educational Contents,' 'Usefulness of Educational Contents,' 'Overall Satisfaction with Educational Environment' and 'Quality and Ability of Instructors' were included in areas of recommendation.

  • Due to the economic recession and corporation's growth without more jobs, college graduates unemployment issue has been emerged as a serious social problem. Since the employment rate of each college became an important factor of college evaluation by the government, each college is trying to increase the employment rate of students. Therefore universities are supporting student employment through various policies and programs. However there have been perception differences in intention of employment supporting activities, final results, preparedness, student satisfaction level and overall effectiveness level of program between students and university career center staff members. The perception differences may lead not only to the waste of budget but also ineffectiveness of various programs to promote student employment. Therefore this research proposed new revised efficient employment supporting programs of universities and desirable attitude of students to increase the effectiveness of student employment based on the analysis of perception level on the several issues such as degree of usefulness of program and satisfaction level of students.

  • The purpose of this study is to offer the basic data regarding the problems of the employment training activities and their solutions by way of the research and analysis of the awareness of career development of university students and their preparation for employment opportunities. The results of the study are as follows. First, it is necessary that the students themselves make plans for future jobs and their preparation for them, from the start of their university work. This includes taking employment preparation courses as liberal arts requirements. It also needs to have a systematic association with some organizations such as employment preparation centers. Second, it is necessary that the career portfolios of university students be accepted as materials for objective evaluation so that the companies use them at the time of hiring new employees. If those materials are stored and managed in a database even after their graduation, they will be the strong foundation for the competitive power of the university.Third, it is necessary that university students establish the orientation of employment training in advance, according to their personal and disciplinary possibilities by diagnosing the level of basic employment ability they possess and that they find out the appropriate programs, both personal and disciplinary, to enforce the abilities they need to develop further. Accordingly, it is necessary to have an evaluation system in order to assess student's basic employment abilities, so as to increase the degree of their employment preparation and its support strategy based on the evaluation. Fourth, in the higher education level, university students' lower awareness (M=2.86) of their discipline satisfaction, their major selection, and the university's employment opportunity service shows that it is necessary that there be close connection between learning and work. For short-term purpose, the quantitative and qualitative evaluation must be preceded about the various employment training programs and self-development programs offered by the university. From the long-term perspective, it is urgently necessary that the university ensure the human resources development experts for the purpose of diagnosing employment services within the university.

  • This study aims to evaluate the efficiency in the provision of employment services for the middle-aged by using spatial analysis in GIS. Based on location information of employment service institutions, we find service areas of the institutions and calculate regional rates of duplication and exclusion in terms of spatial coverage of the employment services. Taking into account potential demand for employment services, the regions with high priority in the provision of the services are identified. Among the regions, those with high exclusion rate of the services are designated as the regions of insufficient service level. Results indicate that Namyangju-si is a representative region of insufficient employment service level. To improve efficiency in the provision of employment services, we suggest to relocate employment service institutions that have been located in a region of high duplication rate such as Siheung-si, Danwon-gu, Gangnam-gu, Songpa-gu into the locality of Namyangju-si.

The ratio of the contents covered in the test was assessed based on the scope of evaluation and the items for evaluation among the 9 subjects. Based on the results, suggestions were presented in relation to the operation of the mathematics curriculum for the department of mathematics education at the college of education or the restructuring of the evaluation scope. There was a significant difference in the ratio of items that appeared on the test among the 9 subjects related to the content knowledge of mathematics. Also, there was a remarkable difference in the ratio of items covered in the test among the evaluation scope by subject. The results of analysis on the evaluation content items suggested that 149 items out of 256 items did not appear in the teacher employment examination for 4 years. Based on such results of analysis, this study discussed the need for readjusting the ratio of items covered in the test of content knowledge related to mathematics or the evaluation scope and evaluation content items.
