Though infanticide, killing the baby after birth of the neonate and denial of pregnancy, are very rare psychiatric disorder, they have been receiving a lot of social concerns. We report and review infanticide and denial of pregnancy administration in a 19 year-old adolescent with bipolar disorder and borderline personality disorder. Patients with a young age, cognitive immaturity, an unwanted child, hid the pregnancy facts were consistent with the results of previous studies. In addition, the patient's impulsivity and emotional instability is affecting infanticide. After inpatient care with pharmacotherapy (escitalopram 20mg, alprazolam 1.5 mg, clonazepam 0.5 mg, valproate sodium 1,100-1,300 mg, and quetiapine 100-400 mg) and supportive psychotherapy, and there were significant improvement of clinical symptoms.

Purpose: Autism spectrum disorder impacts children's social, sensory, and language development, necessitating specialized educational support. Special classrooms play a crucial role in providing an appropriate learning environment for children with autism. However, there is a lack of systematic research on creating effective environments in these special classrooms. Methods: This study aims to gain a comprehensive and systematic understanding of the environmental composition of special classrooms for children with autism spectrum disorder, using the following systematic methodologies including literature review and case study. Results: Sensory spaces in special classrooms for children with autism help regulate sensory stimuli and promote sensory development. They provide stability, reducing stress from excessive stimuli, and enhance emotional stability. These spaces also promote communication and interaction among children and expand the diversity of learning activities, enriching experiences and stimulating interest in learning. Implications: Based on the results, we propose suggestions for improving the environment of special classrooms for children with autism spectrum disorder and provide direction for the design of such environments.
This study was attempted to identify the emotional characteristics of temporomandibular disorder patients. The author applied one of the self-report modes of psychological measurement, Symptom Chechlist-90-Revision. The subjects were 219 TM disorder patients who visited the Department of Oral Diagnosis and Oral Medicine, Seoul National University Hospital during the period from December 1985 to September 1986. All the patients were divided into subgroup according sex, age, duration of symptoms, presence or absence of T-scores of each symptom dimension and global index. The obtained result were as follows : 1. Mean value of T-scores of each symptom dimension and global of the overall patients was within normal range. The two higher mean values of T-scores among 9 symptom dimensions were those of SOM and ANX. 2. Mean values of T-scores of females were higher than those of males in the O-C, DEP, ANX, HOS, PSY dimensions and all global indices, and there was a significant difference in the distribution of T-scores of the SOM dimension between males and female(P<0.05). 3. There was no significant difference between the subgroup under 30 years and the subgroup 30 years or older. 4. The subgroup with symptoms for 6 months or longer showed the higher mean values of T-scorers in the SOM, O-C, I-S, DEP, ANX, PHOB, PAR, PSY dimensions and all global indices compared with the subgroup with symptoms for shorter than 6 months. 5. The subgroup with pain showed the higher mean values of T-scores in all the symptom dimensions except the PAR in comparison with the subgroup with other complaints than pain, and there was a significant difference in the distribution of T-scores of the PST index between the pain subgroup and the non-pain subgroup(P<0.05). There was a significant difference in the distribution of T-scores of the PHOB dimension between the high-school graduates subgroup and the college graduates subgroup(P<0.05).
Objectives: This study aimed to investigate the characteristics of early maladaptive schemas and their associations with clinical symptoms in patients with schizophrenia. Methods: Forty-eight patients with schizophrenia, 49 patients with major depressive disorder, and 50 healthy controls completed the Young Schema Questionnaire and symptom measures including the Brief Psychiatric Rating Scale-Expanded (BPRS-E). Results: The schizophrenia group had significantly higher scores than the healthy controls and lower scores than the depression group in most schemas. Compared with healthy controls, the schizophrenia group exhibited higher scores in 10 schemas, i.e., mistrust, social isolation, failure, dependence, vulnerability to harm, enmeshment, insufficient self-control, subjugation, emotional inhibition, and negativity schemas (all p<0.001). Moreover, vulnerability to harm, enmeshment, subjugation, and negativity schemas were correlated with total scores of the BPRS-E (0.37≤r≤0.43, all p<0.05). Regarding the five BPRS domains, emotional deprivation schema showed significant relationships with negative (r=0.50, p=0.005) and disorganization (r=0.39, p=0.033) symptoms, while no schemas showed correlations with positive symptoms. Conclusion: These results suggest that most schemas in patients with schizophrenia pertain to impaired autonomy and performance as well as disconnection and rejection domains and may improve our understanding and the treatment of schizophrenia from a perspective of schema therapy focused on these domains.

Objectives: To investigate the relationship between brain structure and empathy in early adolescents with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Methods: Nineteen early adolescents with ADHD and 20 healthy controls underwent 3T MRI. All the participants were assessed for different aspects of empathy using measures including the Interpersonal Reactivity Index and Empathy Quotient. Cortical thickness and subcortical structural volume based on T1-weighted scans were analyzed using FreeSurfer. Results: Cognitive empathy (t=-2.52, p=0.016) and perspective taking (t=-2.10, p=0.043) were impaired in the ADHD group compared with the control group. The cluster encompassing the left posterior insular, supramarginal, and transverse temporal cortices [cluster-wise p-value (CWP)=0.001], which are associated with emotional empathy, was significantly smaller in the ADHD group, and the volume of the left nucleus accumbens was greater than that of the control group (F=10.12, p=0.003, effect size=0.22). In the control group, the left superior temporal (CWP=0.002) and lingual cortical (CWP=0.035) thicknesses were positively associated with cognitive empathy, while the right amygdala volume was positively associated with empathic concern (Coef=14.26, t=3.92, p=0.001). However, there was no significant correlation between empathy and brain structure in the ADHD group. Conclusion: The ADHD group had a smaller volume of the cortical area associated with emotional empathy than the control group, and there was no brain region showing significant correlation with empathy, unlike in the control group.
Metabolic syndrome is deeply related with risks of chronic disease and mortality. Furthermore, the metabolic syndrome disorder in childhood and adolescence usually tends to lead to a number of cardiovascular disease in the stage of adulthood. In this sense, metabolic syndrome needs to be investigated seriously. The purpose of this study is therefore to prove the relationship between dietary habits(high carbohydrate, high calorie) and metabolic syndrome among adolescents. We also aim to clarify the relationship between emotional factors perceived by adolescents and metabolic syndrome. Our empirical results based on KNHANES dataset significantly demonstrates that the HDL-cholesterol is a decisive factor for the diagnosis of metabolic syndrome disorder. Additionally, emotional experience factors such as stress also show significant effects in difference of adolescents' metabolic syndrome.
Nociplastic pain by the "International Association for the Study of Pain" is defined as pain that arises from altered nociception despite no clear evidence of nociceptive or neuropathic pain. Augmented central nervous system pain and sensory processing with altered pain modulation are suggested to be the mechanism of nociplastic pain. Clinical criteria for possible nociplastic pain affecting somatic structures include chronic regional pain and evoked pain hypersensitivity including allodynia with after-sensation. In addition to possible nociplastic pain, clinical criteria for probable nociplastic pain are pain hypersensitivity in the region of pain to non-noxious stimuli and presence of comorbidity such as generalized symptoms with sleep disturbance, fatigue, or cognitive problems with hypersensitivity of special senses. Criteria for definitive nociplastic pain is not determined yet. Eight specific disorders related to central sensitization are suggested to be restless leg syndrome, chronic fatigue syndrome, fibromyalgia, temporomandibular disorder, migraine or tension headache, irritable bowel syndrome, multiple chemical sensitivities, and whiplash injury; non-specific emotional disorders related to central sensitization include anxiety or panic attack and depression. These central sensitization pain syndromes are overlapped to previous functional pain syndromes which are unlike organic pain syndromes and have emotional components. Therefore, nociplastic pain can be understood as chronic altered nociception related to central sensitization including both sensory components with nociceptive and/or neuropathic pain and emotional components. Nociplastic pain may be developed to explain unexplained chronic pain beyond tissue damage or pathology regardless of its origin from nociceptive, neuropathic, emotional, or mixed pain components.

Objective : The goal of this study was to investigate neurological mechanism of emotional regulation and to examine the relationship between the regulation and sensory processing. Subjective : Emotional regulations are mainly processed in limbic system, particularly the basal-lateral group of amygdala takes on a major role in the regulations. The basal-lateral group of amygdala links to thalamus directly and/or indirectly which processes sensory information together. This sensory information connects to orbital and medial prefrontal cortex. Inadequate sensory processing may cause difficulties in emotional regulations and behaviors because of a circuit linking the amygdala, the thalamus, and the orbital and medial prefrontal cortex. These difficulties and impairments has been reported in neurological studies for children with ASD and ADHD. Conclusion : Neurological states are different between the normal children and children with ASD and ADHD and these represent various aspects in sensory processing, emotional regulations and behaviors. Thus, therapists working with children with ASD and ADHD need to understand mechanisms of sensory processing and emotional regulations in order to provide adequate treatments.
The purpose of this study was using a meta-analysis to estimate effect size of emotional intelligence program. Using a statistical method, meta-analysis has advantages that prove intervention's amount and direction. Meta-analysis facilitates comprehensive analysis. Through the data collection, 33studies were selected and 92 effect size were calculated as analysis objects. The overall effect size of emotional intelligence program was 0.839. Depend on subordinate scope, the emotional cognition had the largest effect size. Next were the understanding domain, application domain, the regulation domain and the expression domain. Analysis on age of participant, adult group had the largest effect size. Next were the elementary students group and the adolescent group. Based on the findings, implications for future study were discussed.

Objective: To investigate the influence of offspring-related characteristics on the prevalence of depressive disorders among cancer patients and those who survived cancer for at least 45 years. Materials and Methods: Data were obtained from the Korean Longitudinal Study of Aging (KLoSA). To investigate the association between offspring and depressive disorder among cancer patients and survivors, we analyzed data from 292 cancer patients and survivors drawn from a total subject pool of 16,613 individuals at baseline. Results: According to our results, the odds ratio (OR) for subjects with five or more offspring developing depressive disorder was -0.794 (p-value: 0.039, SE: 0.329) compared with that of those with two offspring. In addition, the adjusted effect of the number of male and female offspring on the presence of depressive disorder showed that the OR for those with three or more female offspring for developing depressive disorder was -0.958 lower (SE: 0.305, p-value: 0.012) than it was for those with no female offspring. Conclusions: This article provides evidence for an association between offspring-related characteristics and depressive disorders among cancer patients and survivors. Therefore, offspring may be important contributors to the emotional status of cancer patients and survivors. Further study should precisely need to measure depressive disorders because of self-reported data.
