인지과학의 관점에서 본 서사극 이론 (Epic Theatre Reexamined from the Viewpoint of Cognitive Science)

  • Reexamining Brecht's theoretical hypotheses in terms of cognitive science, this essay arrived at several temporary interpretations. Cognitive science implies that empathy can precede the rational understanding in Verfremdungseffekt. The spectator tends to simulate the unfamiliar incident and character and feels the consequential embodied emotion that leads to the cognitive understanding. The similar situation can be found in social gestus. According to cognitive science, gesture(social gestus) is simulated in the mirror-neuron of spectator, arousing consequently the embodied emotion that triggers the succeeding understanding. The spectator apts to experience and feel physically the moving gesture before decoding it as a social signification. Brecht's intention that attempts to reveal the duality of actor and character by eliminating the fourth wall is negated by cognitive science. According to the theory of conceptual blending, the spectator under the eliminated fourth wall mixes actor and character, and simulates this blending image so that he experiences it imaginatively. As such, another kind of illusion can be formed when a fourth wall is collapsed. Meanwhile, the critical thinking of spectator Brecht wanted can be hard to occur during the performance. It is necessary for the spectator to recollect the bygone dialogue and action in terms of social context as if he presses the pause, stopping the playback while watching a play in video. In this respect the social meaning Brecht intended can be achieved more effectively by the stop motion like tableau. It would not only give the time for the spectator to consider the implied social signification, but also make him possible to decode a semiotic meaning as if interpreting a still picture. Or it can be delivered by the dialogue that expresses the playwright's critical judgement. In this case, the subject of critical thinking is not the spectator but the author. The alternative explanation that the cognitive science suggests illuminates theoretically the reasons why Brecht's theory fails to be realized in practice. In a sense, Brecht's theory is nothing but a theoretical hypothesis. It takes the premise that the emotion hinders the rational thinking, understanding emotion and reason oppositively like Plato. This assumption is negated easily by the recent cognitive science that sees the reason as a by-product of physical experience including emotion. The rational understanding, in this sense, begins from the embodied emotion. As such the cognitive science denies the dichotomy of emotion and reason that Brecht adopted. The theoretical hypothesis of cognitive science makes us recognize again the importance of bodily experience in theatre. In theatre the spectator tends to experience physically before decoding the intellectual meaning. The spectator Brecht wanted, therefore, is far from the reality. The spectator usually experiences and reacts physically before decoding the meaning critically. Thus Brecht's intention can be realized by the embodied emotion resulted from simulation. This tentative interpretation suggests that we need to pay more attention to the empirical study of spectatorship, not remaining in a speculative study.

에이전트의 표정과 목소리 정서의 교차양상지각 (Crossmodal Perception of Mismatched Emotional Expressions by Embodied Agents)

  • 오늘날 가상 세계에서 인간과 인간, 컴퓨터와 인간의 상호작용을 좀 더 효율적으로 도와줄 수 있는 매개체로서 에이전트에 대한 관심이 증대되고 있다. 특히 에이전트의 정서표현도 인간의 정서 표현처럼 해석할 수 있고 그에 대해 인간의 정서표현에 반응하는 것과 마찬가지의 방식으로 반응한다는 연구들이 있어왔다. 그렇다면 에이전트의 정서표현이 표정과 목소리에서 서로 불일치한다면 어떤 쪽에 더 치중해서 에이전트의 정서를 해석할지 또는 어느 한 쪽에 치중하는 것이 아니라 두 정서 모두 조합해서 받아들일지 알아보고자 했다. 또한 만약 표정과 목소리의 두 가지 정서를 조합해서 인지한다면 표정이나 목소리에서는 표현되지 않은 제 3의 정서를 느끼지는 않는 것인지 알아보았다. 실험은 표정(4) $\times$ 목소리(4)로 이루어졌다. 실험 결과 사람들은 에이전트의 한 가지 채널에 지배받아서 정서를 인지하는 것이 아니라 표정(시각)과 목소리(청각) 두 채널 모두를 조합해서 정서를 인지하는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 두 채널의 정서가 불일치할 때에는 혼란에 빠져 무슨 정서인지 모르게 되는 것이 아니라 또 다른 실망, 지루함, 지친, 반가운 등의 제 3의 정서를 느끼는 것으로 나타났다.

패션필름에 나타난 햅틱(Haptic)지각 -로라 막스(Laura Marks)의 이론을 바탕으로- (Haptic Perception in Fashion Film - Drawing on the theory of Laura Marks -)

  • Fashion brands have traditionally conveyed emotions through brand image and images such as fashion photos; however, fashion films play an important role in conveying emotion to consumers due to changes that have resulted from the development of digital technology. This study investigates haptic perceptions in fashion films based on Laura Marks' theory. The study concurrently conducted literature and case studies. Haptic and is a condition of touching an object without actually touching it. Marks describes haptic theory as an embodied perception of physical effects that occur as images affect the body. Haptic perceptions that cause a sense of touching when looking at a fashion film can be understood as a formality embodied in the body of the object and spectator created by the object and spectator's clothing experience. Our bodies and apparel can be seen as being perceived and imprinted in our bodies by constantly experiencing and maintaining relationships in an inseparable relationship. Thus, when we look at fashion films, the haptic image invites feeling embodied in our body and provide a haptic perception. As a result, factors for the haptic perception in fashion film are ambiguity of images, fetish image, and non-narrative. Fashion companies are expected to make active use of haptic elements as an era of artificial intelligence arrives and the size of the e-commerce market grows.

사회적 배제가 소비자 반응에 미치는 효과 : 체화된 인지의 조절효과를 중심으로 (The Impact of Social Exclusion on Consumer Response : The Moderating Effect of Embodied Cognition)

  • 오늘날 우리 사회는 거절과 무시라는 사회적 배제(social exclusion) 경험의 증가로 인해 공격 행동, 자기 자멸적행동, 인지 능력의 저하와 같은 많은 사회적 문제가 발생하고 있다. 본 연구는 사회적 배제의 유형인 무시와 거절이 각각 과시적 소비와 친사회적 행동에 미치는 효과를 검증하고 근육 강화에 의한 체화된 인지가 그 효과를 어떻게 조절하는지 규명하고자 수행되었다. 이를 위해 무시와 거절 조건의 참가자에게 악력기를 통한 근육 강화(firmed muscle)로 체화된 인지를 형성시킨 후 과시적 소비(conspicuous consumption) 성향과 친사회적 행동(prosocial behavior) 의도를 측정하였다. 분석 결과, 무시 조건의 경우 악력기를 통한 근육강화 집단이 근육비강화 집단 (통제 집단)에 비해 더 낮은 과시적 소비 경향과 더 높은 친사회적 행동 의도를 보였으나, 거절 조건의 경우 근육강화 집단과 근육비강화 집단 간의 유의미한 차이를 보이지 않았다. 이는 사회적 배제 경험 중 무시의 경우, 체화된 인지를 통해 효능감의 동기를 높이면 친사회적 행동과 같은 긍정적인 행동을 유도할 수 있음을 시사한다.

동무(東武) 성정론(性情論) 재고(再考) (Reconsideration about the Dong-Mu's Theory of Nature and Emotion)

  • 1. Objectives : This research was purposed to reconsider the Dong-Mu's Theory of Nature and Mind(生情論). 2. Methods : The Dong-Mu's interpretation on the first chapter of "The Doctrine of Mean(中庸)", and the related contents of Nature and Emotion(性情) in his literature such as "Gyukchigo(格致藁)", "Donguisusebowon-Sasang chobongyun(東醫壽世保元四象草本卷)" and "Donguisusebowon(東醫壽世保元)" were reviewed. 3. Results and Conclusions : 1. Dong-Mu reinterpreted the concepts about 'Providence(天命) and Human Nature(人性)', 'Not-yet-intentional state(未發) and Intentional state(已發)', 'Nature and Mind(性情)' and 'Equilibrium and Harmony(中和)' in "The Doctrine of Mean", and used these concepts as logical tools in explanation of his thoughts of Human being and medical theory. 2. The generating principle of Nature and Mind(性情) presented as sorrow, anger, joy and pleasure is 'the Principle of Human nature(性理)', which is embodied as 'the Principle of Organ(臟理)' in "Donguisusebowon". The Principle of Organ(臟理) is originated from Heart and lie at lung, spleen, liver and kidney as the form of Four Virtue(四德). 3. The Principle of Organ(臟理) has the position of superintendence and is the generating principle of Nature and Emotion(性情), by which the structural and functional variations between different constitutional types are formed. 4. Dong-Mu's newly established concept of Nature and Emotion(性情) is the core logic in his idea of physiology, pathology and self-cultivation.

Literary Therapeutic Mechanism Analysis in which the Rated Sijo is Encoded as a Battery of Life

  • This is a humanistic study to trace phenomena logically the comprehensive therapeutic mechanism of the human body which is coded by the smart emotion of the rated signal conveyed by the Rated Sijo. The Gestalt, which is structured in the form of therapeutic metastasis conveyed by sentences, is intended to embody the principle of human response. So, this researcher explored the metastatic structure toward Gestalt of original human being through the passage of foreground and background by ergonomic and chemical structure. In the meantime, this researcher focused on revealing the structure of the field of existence by the symbol system in which the therapeutic mechanism of the human body is embodied. As a result, the basic framework of Gestalt literary therapy, which contributes to the improvement of the Quality of Life metaphorized as a mechanism of the symbol system by the metastasis of literary therapy or the electrical operation of the human body. As a result, the human body as a conductor through literature has turned out to be an original Gestalt structure pursued by literature. In addition, it was analyzed that the human body would accept signals such as emotions and Rated Emotions planted in the sentence, and synapse them into the human physiological psycho analytical symbol system. Therefore, it has been confirmed possibility that human existent environment and trauma are separated from the whole universe can push fully implement therapeutic techniques toward totalization by a combination of literary devices, especially appropriate electric signal combination of the Rated Sijo.

운 경험과 손 씻기의 상호작용이 다양성 추구 행동에 미치는 효과 (The Interaction Effect of Luck Experience and Hand Washing on Variety Seeking Behavior)

  • 기존의 선행연구들에서 사람들의 다양성 추구행동에 미치는 요인들에 많은 관심을 가져왔음에도 불구하고, 행운과 불운 그리고 체화된 인지의 상호작용이 다양성 추구행동에 미치는 효과에 관한 연구는 없었다. 행운과 불운의 경험은 소비자의 정보처리에 영향을 미치며, 손 씻기에 의한 체화된 인지는 행운 불운의 경험을 역전시키는 요인으로 두 요인이 다양성 추구행동에 미치는 효과를 이해하는 것은 소비자의 선택과 제품구매를 포함한 전반적인 소비자 행동연구에 중요한 역할을 할 것이다. 이에 본 연구는 운 경험 (행운 vs. 불운)과 손 씻기 여부 (있음 vs. 없음)의 상호작용이 다양성 추구행동에 미치는 영향을 검증하였다. 참가자들은 행운과 불운을 경험한 후, 손을 씻거나, 씻지 않았고, 떠먹는 요구르트의 맛을 얼마나 다양하게 선택하는지에 대한 과제를 수행하였다. 분석 결과, 운 점화와 손 씻기의 상호작용 효과가 발견되었다. 구체적으로, 행운 조건의 경우, 손을 씻은 참가자와 손을 씻지 않은 참가자의 다양성 추구 행동에는 차이가 없었다. 반면에 불운 조건에서는 손을 씻은 참가자가 손을 씻지 않은 참가자보다 다양성 추구 행동이 더 높게 나타났다. 본 연구의 결과는 소비자심리와 마케팅 분야에 폭넓은 이론적, 실무적 시사점을 줄 것으로 기대한다.

  • 대규모 다인 접속이 가능한 온라인 게임이 인기를 누리면서 다수의 온라인 게임 제작회사의 개발 건수는 기하급수적으로 증가하게 되었다. 하지만 게임의 양적 팽창속도에 비해 질적 팽창속도가 따라가지 못하는 이유는 소수 경쟁적 우위를 점하고 있는 선두업체를 제외하고는 대다수가 영세 업체이기 때문에 제대로 된 제작 절차 부재와 출시 전 정확한 테스트가 수반되지 않아 예측 가능한 결과에 유연하게 대처하지 못하기 때문이다. 현재는 게임성 점검 단계를 통해 중요한 기능이 구현되지 않거나 특정한 부분의 치명적인 에러를 찾는데 쓰이고 있는 실정이다. 이에 본 연구는 기존의 사용성 평가 시스템에 치우쳐 있는 평가체계를 사용성과 더불어 게임을 하면서 사용자가 느끼는 감성을 평가할 수 있는 평가시스템을 제안하기 위해 게임에서 느끼는 감성어휘를 수집하고 요인분석을 통해 Interactivity, Interface, Information 요인으로 분류한 후 그에 맞는 평가문항을 설계하여 감성평가시스템을 제안한다.

안도 타다오 건축에 나타난 사색 공간의 표현 특성에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Characteristic of the Speculation Space of Architecture find on Tadao Ando)

  • Construction space of Japan suggests the factor of speculation to human and reveals tradition. The speculation can be embodied in the aspect of space and human's mental aspect is expressed as a main factor of tradition space of Japan. The purpose of this study is to research expression characteristic of speculation space, shown in the architecture of modem architect, Tadao Ando, who succeeds the concept. His works surveyed through research contain the emotion of nature and human, which are traditional factors of Japan. Moreover, it is reinterpreted by modem space, delivers its function of space and physical factor to user and grants value to activity and behavior of user residing in the space. Users recognize movement, create new meaning of space and accept physical barrier in the space. In conclusion, it can be said that the space of speculation is not a simple visual thing but a frame of visual structure, which is invented for embodiment. The factors show the Japanese architecture, real and contemplating one, which is positive in real life and allows experience. Through the conditions above, the researcher can find the meaning from the aspect that modem architecture of Japan is planned on the basis of concept of speculation.

감성 가치 평가를 위한 시각적, 청각적 매체의 효용 (The effects of visual and auditory information as A tool of emotional value assessment)

  • The goal of this research is a visual and auditory tool development enabling designers to have the same emotional value with users in the process of user centered design. Through the research, we intend to show the aid measure for making cognitive gaps narrow between users and designer in the process of transforming and understanding the emotional needs as a verbal image. because In the business practice of design, most of tools and techniques for assessment and analysis of emotional needs are those used usually in the marketing fields. So the information generated and transformed from users to designers have a form of physical words. When the designer's understanding of the emotional needs is considered as a product mediated communication process, the morphologic and cognitive information gaps become obvious. This difference could be a false basis in designing with emotional user needs. So the alternative needs assessment sub-tools of visual and auditory information form was embodied mainly for designer's cognitive gaps and inter-cultural emotional needs assessment. As the method of embodiment, Firstly, adjectives related to emotion were classified in their cognitive dimension. Secondly, visual and auditory data were extracted, and then the relativity verified. Finally, the practicality and effectiveness were tested through the database generation. In view of the results so far achieved, 1. We could find being of the big information cognitive gaps in the verbal assessment of emotional needs between designers and users. 2. With the visual and auditory assessment tool, we could make the big cognitive gaps narrower than we expected. 3. Also, we could find the chance that the fidelity, recognition, and friendliness of design for emotional user needs would become better.
