A Study on Crack Initiation of 2-Phase Composite with Through Notch (貫通노치를 가진 二相接合材의 龜裂發생에 대한 硏究)

  • In this paper, 3-dimensional fracture phenomena in the local area near the notch tip between the surface and the center of a composite bar which is consisted of two different materials were investigated by using embedded dyeing grids with the pitch of 50.8.mu. It was confirmed that the maximum strain near the notch tip occurred not at the notch front but at the curvature beginning point of the notch which is in the interior of z/W = 0.3 - 0.35 from the surface and a notch was initiated from that point. And that the strain near the notch front between the center and z/W = 0.65 - 0.7 toward the surface was in a state of compression.

Development of a Steel Plate Surface Defect Detection System Based on Small Data Deep Learning (소량 데이터 딥러닝 기반 강판 표면 결함 검출 시스템 개발)

  • Collecting and labeling sufficient training data, which is essential to deep learning-based visual inspection, is difficult for manufacturers to perform because it is very expensive. This paper presents a steel plate surface defect detection system with industrial-grade detection performance by training a small amount of steel plate surface images consisting of labeled and non-labeled data. To overcome the problem of lack of training data, we propose two data augmentation techniques: program-based augmentation, which generates defect images in a geometric way, and generative model-based augmentation, which learns the distribution of labeled data. We also propose a 4-step semi-supervised learning using pseudo labels and consistency training with fixed-size augmentation in order to utilize unlabeled data for training. The proposed technique obtained about 99% defect detection performance for four defect types by using 100 real images including labeled and unlabeled data.

An Experimental Study on the Settlement Characteristics of the Corner of Earth Retaining Wall According to the Ground Excavation (지반굴착에 따른 흙막이벽 우각부 모서리 구간의 침하특성에 대한 실험 연구)

  • The experiment of model soil structures has been executed for the soil retaining wall in various conditions of excavation, in this study, to analyze the behavior of the corner of opening. The ground for experiment has been constituted with the sandy soil of relatively loose density, the construction condition has been divided into the opening length of corner, embedded depth, existence of strut, etc., and the excavation has been carried out for 4 stages in total. The behavior characteristics at the corner of opening area has been verified by concentrate analysis of the displacement of wall and the subsidence of ground surface, for each construction and excavation condition, using the measuring instrument mounted inside the model soil structure. In the result of experiment, it has been analyzed that the opening area of corner is unstable structurally compared to the linear area, as it shows that the wall displacement and subsidence of ground surface have been increased when the opening length of corner gets longer. The longer the embedded depth, ground surface settlement of coner was decreased 40%. To apply deeper embedded depth than designed estimate was an advantage in the safety. As a result of the analysis of coner behavior with added struts, maximum surface settlement and maximum horizontal displacement was evaluated 40% and 30%, respectively. Hence increased embedded depth with the added struts in coner edge was effective in the safety.

Steel Probing in Concrete Using Steel Corrosion Surface Measurement Method Modeling (철근부식 표면측정법 모델링을 통한 콘크리트 내 철근 탐사)

  • Using non-invasive surface measurement method, the corrosion state of steel embedded inside concrete can be measured by placing four electrodes on the surface of concrete. Modeling of such measurements can provide valuable information as how interfacial impedance between corroded steel and surrounding concrete results in measured impedance on the concrete surface. In this paper, the modeling of surface measurement technique is used for the determination of the sensitivity of the measurements with respect to steel bar size embedded inside concrete and cover thickness. Modeling results indicated that steel bar sizes varied from D10 to D35 could be identified. Concrete cover thickness changes from 0.02 m to 0.1 m was also distinguished using the modeling scheme. The results confirm this modeling technique is capable of determining steel bar sizes and cover thickness, as well as simulating corrosion responses.

Change of transmission characteristics of FSSs in hybrid composites due to residual stresses

  • The frequency selective surface (FSS) embedded hybrid composite materials have been developed to provide excellent mechanical and specific electromagnetic properties. Radar absorbing structures (RASs) are an example material that provides both radar absorbing properties and structural characteristics. The absorbing efficiency of an RAS can be improved using selected materials having special absorptive properties and structural characteristics and can be in the form of multi-layers or have a certain stacking sequence. However, residual stresses occur in FSS embedded composite structures after co-curing due to a mismatch between the coefficients of thermal expansion of the FSS and the composite material. In this study, to develop an RAS, the thermal residual stresses of FSS embedded composite structures were analyzed using finite element analysis, considering the effect of stacking sequence of composite laminates with square loop (SL) and double square loop (DSL) FSS patterns. The FSS radar absorbing efficiency was measured in the K-band frequency range of 21.6 GHz. Residual stress leads to a change in the deformation of the FSS pattern. Using these results, the effect of transmission characteristics with respect to the deformation on FSS pattern was analyzed using an FSS Simulator.

  • A spot welded joint is modeled using 3-D finite elements with embedded strong discontinuities. The spot weld is represented by a special cohesive law on the embedded discontinuity surface, instead of meshing its geometry. This strategy naturally eliminates the need of adaptive FEM meshes fitting the local geometry of the spot weld. Mesh independent solutions are guaranteed by explicitly modeling the detailed shape of the spot weld, which is in contrast with the exiting approach using point constraints for the spot weld.

  • This paper presents the control strategy of Auto-leveling equipment (ALE) of Multi-function radar (MFR) for vehicle using Embedded System. MFR implements surveillance patrol missions such as surface-to-air missiles and fighters with constant rotation. ALE consists of 4 Auto-leveling modules (ALM) and retains the stability with maintaining level. The gradient of vehicle can be measured and controlled by embedded systems. This paper contributes for improvement the system design with the ALM 1 set modeling. The validity of the modeling is verified using MATLAB/Simulink.

  • The present paper deals with the free vibration and buckling problem with consideration of surface properties of circular nanobeams and nanoarches. The Gurtin-Murdach theory is used for investigating the surface effects parameters including surface tension, surface density and surface elasticity. Both linear and nonlinear elastic foundation effect are considered on the circular curved nanobeam. The analytically Navier solution is employed to solve the governing equations. It is obviously detected that the natural frequencies of a curved nanobeams is substantially influenced by the elastic foundations. Besides, it is revealed that by increasing the thickness of curved nanobeam, the influence of surface properties and elastic foundations reduce to vanished, and the natural frequency and critical buckling load turns into to the corresponding classical values.

Epoxy/BaTiO3 (SrTiO3) composite films and pastes for high dielectric constant and low tolerance embedded capacitors fabrication in organic substrates

  • [ $Epoxy/BaTiO_3$ ] composite embedded capacitor films (ECFs) were newly designed fur high dielectric constant and low tolerance (less than ${\pm}15\%$) embedded capacitor fabrication for organic substrates. In terms of material formulation, ECFs are composed of specially formulated epoxy resin and latent curing agent, and in terms of coating process, a comma roll coating method is used for uniform film thickness in large area. Dielectric constant of $BaTiO_3\;&\;SrTiO_3$ composite ECF is measured with MIM capacitor at 100 kHz using LCR meter. Dielectric constant of $BaTiO_3$ ECF is bigger than that of $SrTiO_3$ ECF, and it is due to difference of permittivity of $BaTiO_3\;and\;SrTiO_3$ particles. Dielectric constant of $BaTiO_3\;&\;SrTiO_3$ ECF in high frequency range $(0.5\~10GHz)$ is measured using cavity resonance method. In order to estimate dielectric constant, the reflection coefficient is measured with a network analyzer. Dielectric constant is calculated by observing the frequencies of the resonant cavity modes. About both powders, calculated dielectric constants in this frequency range are about 3/4 of the dielectric constants at 1 MHz. This difference is due to the decrease of the dielectric constant of epoxy matrix. For $BaTiO_3$ ECF, there is the dielectric relaxation at $5\~9GHz$. It is due to changing of polarization mode of $BaTiO_3$ powder. In the case of $SrTiO_3$ ECF, there is no relaxation up to 10GHz. Alternative material for embedded capacitor fabrication is $epoxy/BaTiO_3$ composite embedded capacitor paste (ECP). It uses similar materials formulation like ECF and a screen printing method for film coating. The screen printing method has the advantage of forming capacitor partially in desired part. But the screen printing makes surface irregularity during mask peel-off, Surface flatness is significantly improved by adding some additives and by applying pressure during curing. As a result, dielectric layer with improved thickness uniformity is successfully demonstrated. Using $epoxy/BaTiO_3$ composite ECP, dielectric constant of 63 and specific capacitance of 5.1nF/cm2 were achieved.

  • Results from direct numerical simulation and LDV measurements are analyzed to investigate the influence of structured surface on turbulence in the outer layer. To provide a well-defined surface roughness, sinusoidal wavy surface was used. Even though flows over smooth and wavy surface show very different process for maintaining turbulence in the vicinity of the wall, there are some evidences that the turbulence in the outer layer has a universal characteristics and it may be possible to give a speculative interpretation that similarity of turbulent structures arises because Reynolds stress producing motion is similar regardless of different turbulence generation mechanisms embedded in both cases.
