Mechanics of lipid membranes subjected to boundary excitations and an elliptic substrate interactions

  • We present relatively simple derivations of the Helfrich energy potential that has been widely adopted in the analysis of lipid membranes without detailed explanations. Through the energy variation methods (within the limit of Helfrich energy potential), we obtained series of analytical solutions in the case when the lipid membranes are excited through their edges. These affordable solutions can be readily applied in the related membrane experiments. In particular, it is shown that, in case of an elliptic cross section of a rigid substrate differing slightly from a circle and subjected to the incremental deformations, exact analytical expressions describing deformed configurations of lipid membranes can be obtained without the extensive use of Mathieu's function.

스테이터의 재질에 따른 Cross형 초음파 회전모터의 구동특성 (Driving Characteristics of the Cross Type Ultrasonic Rotary Motor Dependent on the Materials of the Stator)

  • Novel structure ultrasonic motors which have cross type stator were designed and fabricated. Driving characteristics of the motors were analyzed and measured by changing the materials of the stator. This ultrasonic motor has stator with hollowed cross bar and the stator rotate the rotor using elliptical displacement of the inside tips. This motion is generated by lateral vibration mode of cross bars. This stator was analyzed by finite element analysis depandent on stator's materials. And the cross type ultrasonic motors were made by analyzed results. The larger displacements were obtained, when the density of material was decreased. But the stress was increased when the stator's material has large density and Young's modulus. The fabricated one has high speed and torque in large stress on contact point between rotor and stator. The stress was more effected on speed and torque than the displacement.

속도 제한에 의한 충격량 도형에 관한 연구 (An analysis on the robotic impact geometry with task velocity constraint)

  • This paper describes the effect of impact configurations on a single robot manipulator. The effect of different configurations of kinematically redundant arms on impact forces at their end effectors during contact with the environment is investigated. Instead of the well-known impact ellipsoid, I propose an analytic method on the geometric configuration of the impact directly from the mathematical definition. By calculating the length along the specified motion direction and volume of the geometry, we can determine the characteristics of robot configurations in terms of both the impact along the specified direction and the ability of the robot withstanding the impact. Simulations of various impact configurations are discussed at the end of this paper.

Drive Characteristics Using Resonant Frequency of a Ring Type Ultrasonic Motor

  • The rotational force of ultrasonic motors is able to get from the frictional force of elliptical vibration by contact between rotor and stator. Generally, ultrasonic motors are suitable for driving at resonant frequencies of about 20∼80[KHz]. The driving characteristics of ring type ultrasonic motors are the object of this study. A two-phase driving signal is delivered to the tested ultrasonic motor, which has a $90^0$ phase difference respectively with both sine and cosine voltage waveforms. The driving frequency is almost equal to the mechanical resonant frequency for the proper operation, and the driving signal is supplied by the two-phase parallel resonant inverter. The validity of the proposed driving method is verified by experimental results with stable operation.

강구의 충돌에 의한 양단자유 보의 진동 및 음향 방사에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Vibration and Acoustic Radiation from an Elastic Free- Free Beam due to a Steel Ball Impact)

  • 본 연구에서는 배플이 없는 사각단면을 가진 양단자유의 탄성보에 강구가 횡 방향으로 충돌할 때 발생되는 음압을 M.Sakata와 M.Horii의 방법을 적용하여 구하였으 며, 보의 가속도는 모우드 해석기법을 적용하여 구하였다. 그리고 충돌시 발생되는 충격격과 접촉시간은 허즈(Hertz)접촉이론을 이용하였다.그리고 실험을 통하여 이 론으로 구한보의 가속도, 접촉시간, 방사음압의 결과와 비교하였다. 기존의 연구내 용을 기반으로한 본 논문의 기여부분은 hertz 접촉이론을 본 연구의 시스템에 적용하 여 접촉시간을 실험적으로 검증하였으며 모우드 해석기법을 이용하여 구한 보의 진동 을 실험과 비교하였고, 시스템을 탄성보로하여 M.Sakata의 방법을 적용하여 발생되는 음압을 실험으로 검증한 것이다.

VLCC 축계 시스템의 유연성 확보 방안에 관한 연구 (A Study on Flexibility Acquisition Method for VLCC Shaft System)

  • VLCC 추진축계의 선미관 후부 베어링에서 주로 발생하는 발열 사고는 프로펠러 하중이 추진축을 처지게 하여 후방부에 과도한 국부압착압력이 작용하는 것이 주된 원인이다. 최근 VLCC는 엔진 출력이 크고 축 직경이 증가하는 반면 선미관전부 베어링과 후부 베어링 사이의 간격이 상대적으로 짧아져 축계 시스템의 유연성이 저하되는 경향이 있으며, 이로 인해 발열 사고 가능성에 대한 우려가 커지고 있다. 본 연구에서는 선체의 변형에 대한 축계의 유연성을 확보하기 위한 방안으로 선미관 전부 베어링을 삭제하고 선미관 후부 베어링만을 설치한 새로운 축계 시스템의 적용 가능성을 검토하였다. 국부압착압력의 계산에 있어서는 접촉 너비를 따라 반 타원 형상의 압력 분포를 가정한 Hertzian 접촉 조건을 도입하였으며, 엔진 가동 상태의 프로펠러 하중, 열 효과 및 선체 변형을 고려하였다. 제안된 축계 시스템에 대한 해석을 통해 선미관 후부 베어링의 축 접촉면 재료인 화이트 메탈에 부분 경사를 추가 시공함으로써 설계 요구 조건이 만족됨을 확인하였다. 제안된 축계 시스템의 적용을 통해 발열 사고 예방을 위한 축계 유연성 확보 뿐 만 아니라 시스템의 단순화를 통한 설치비용의 감소 등 부가적인 효과도 기대할 수 있다.

구동회로에 따른 박형 초음파모터의 동작특성

  • This paper represented driving characteristic of a thin-type ultrasonic motor by fabricating and utilizing two kinds of drivers which could generate sinusoidal wave, square wave, respectively. A thin brass plate was used as a cross shaped vibrator and sixteen ceramic plates were attached on upper and bottom side of the brass plate. From the thin stator, elliptical displacements of the four contact tips were obtained. Speed, torque, and current were measured by applying sinusoidal waves through driving equipment such as function generator, power amplifier: to measure characteristic of the motor. As a result, the speed and the torque changed linearly at either driving frequency of 88.6 ~ 87.6[kHz] or voltage of 24~36[V]. Two-drivers which generate sinusoidal waves and square waves were designed respectively, and then were compared through some experiments in order to be put to practical use. In conclusion, the drivers had similar characteristic of speed-torque at similar frequency and voltage. It was able to control the motor linearly by using the driver generating square wave among two-drivers. Besides, it also was possible to make the drivers smaller.

Leg-angle 변화에 따른 V-type 초음파모터의 특성 (Characteristics of V-type Ultrasonic Motor with the Change Angle of Legs)

  • In the case of existing ultrasonic motors, they have characteristics such as outstanding response speed, speed and high efficiency. However, it's very hard to use practically them as small motors due to complicated structure and expensive cost. This paper proposed v-type ultrasonic linear motor. Stator of the motor is composed of thin elastic body and four ceramics attached to upper and bottom areas of the body. The ceramics have each direction of polarization. When two harmonic voltages which had $90^{\circ}$ phase difference were applied to the ceramics, the symmetric and anti-symmetric displacements were generated at the tip to make the elliptical motion. To find out a model that generates maximum displacement at contact tip, FEM program was used with change of leg-angle. In addition, optimal model was chosen by considering magnitude and shape of displacement according to change of frequency.

  • Electromagnetic forming (EMF) simulations consider 3-dimensionally coupled electromagnetic-mechanical phenomenon using LS-DYNA, therefore the calculation cost is normally expensive. In this study, a sensitivity analysis in regard to the simulation variables affecting the calculation time was carried out. The EMF experiments were conducted to form an elliptically protruding shape on a high-strength steel sheet, and it was predicted using LS-DYNA simulation. In this particular EMF simulation case, the effect of several simulation variables, viz., element size, contact condition, EM-time step interval, and re-calculation number of the EM matrices, on the shape of elliptical protrusion and the total calculation time was analyzed. As a result, reasonable values of the simulation variables between the simulation precision and calculation time were proposed, and the EMF experiments with respect to the charging voltages were successfully predicted.

탄성체 재질 변화에 따른 16각형 초음파모터의 토크 특성 연구 (A Study on the Torque Characteristics Depending on the Elastic Body Materials of a Hexadecagon Shaped Ultrasonic Motor)

  • In this study, novel ultrasonic rotary motor of hexadecagon shape stator was proposed. Stator of the hexadecagon ultrasonic motor was composed of an elastic ring and ceramics. The elastic ring had sixteen sides and sixteen angular points. Eight ceramics were attached on the outer surface of the eight sides of the ring. When rotor of cylindrical shaft was inserted inside of the ring stator, central lines of the sixteen sides of the stator hold the shaft by the slight pressures(frictions). This slight pressure was a preload of the motor and it could be controlled by radius and thickness of the ring. When two sinusoidal voltages which have 90 degree phase difference were applied to each four ceramics, elliptical displacements of inner surface of the ring were obtained. These elliptical displacements of the inner surface rotated the shaft rotor through the frictions. The proposed hexadecagon ultrasonic motor was designed and analyzed by using the finite element method (FEM), depending on materials of the elastic ring. Based on the FEM results, one model of motor which showed maximum displacement at contact points was chosen and fabricated. And characteristics of the motor were compared with simulated results. When the motor was fabricated with these results, EL20ET0.5CT0.5CW2 model showed 115[rpm] speed about input voltage of 60[Vrms] at 65.6[kHz]. And the maximum torque of 6[gfcm] was obtained. From these results, the hexadecagon shaped ultrasonic motor can be used to actuator for optical device which needs detailed position control. Also it can be used to medical and portable device by reducing size and weight.
