  • The result of studying primary science education in Korea the first stage under CHOSUN Government General is as follows and it could be seen that it was managed under considerably different philosophy of education than that of the Ministry of Education, Japan. 1) Weekly 2 hours of 'science' were taught at 3rd and 4th grade of primary school. 2) CHOSUN Government General emphasized 'practicality' in the regulation of primary science education. 3) During the transitional period science text compiled by the office of education was revised and used. 4) First primary science text compiled by CHOSUN Government General was "Science Textbook for Commom School" (1913) and it was filled with sentences stimulating interest of students and at end of each chapter there were exercise problems.

초등학생의 안전사고예방을 위한 웹기반수업 프로그램 개발 및 효과분석 (Development and Effect Analysis of Web-Based Instruction Program to Prevent Elementary School Students from Safety Accidents)

  • Purpose: This study was aimed to develop a WBI(Web Based Instruction) program on safety for 3rd grade elementary school students and to test the effects of it. Method: The WBI program was developed using Macromedia flash MX, Adobe Illustrator 10.0 and Adobe Photoshop 7.0. The web site was http://www.safeschool.co.kr. The effect of it was tested from Mar 24, to Apr 30, 2003. The subjects were 144 students enrolled in the 3rd grade of an elementary school in Gyungju. The experimental group received the WBI program lessons while each control group received textbook-based lessons with visual presenters and maps, 3 times. Data was analyzed with descriptive statistics, and ${\chi}^2$test, t-test, and repeated measure ANOVA. Result: First, the WBI group reported a longer effect on knowledge and practice of accident prevention than the textbook-based lessons, indicating that the WBI is more effective. Second, the WBI group was better motivated to learn the accident prevention lessons, showing that the WBI is effective. As a result, the WBI group had total longer effects on knowledge, practice and motivation of accident prevention than the textbook-based instruction. Conclusion: We recommend that this WBI program be used in each class to provide more effective safety instruction in elementary schools.

Analysis of the oral health unit of elementary school health textbooks

  • Objectives: This study aimed to analyze the textbook content, specifically that of the oral health units, of Korean elementary health textbooks in order to discuss oral health education in elementary schools through textbooks. Methods: The study analyzed the "oral health" units of six health textbooks for students in the fifth and sixth grades of elementary school in Korea. It identified the number of pictures, practice contents, and summaries in the textbooks, calculating the proportion of oral health units relative to the total number of pages in the textbook and comparing the learning goals provided by the WHO with the education contents. In addition, the study also analyzed several keywords from the textbooks in terms of whether they relate to oral health. Results: The comprehensive analysis on the oral health units within the three health textbooks analyzed revealed that all three were similar, except that the textbook from publisher A did not include an introduction. The three textbooks also had differences in terms of the organization of the contents. In terms of the learning goals of the oral health units, there were differences between the WHO standards and the learning goals from the textbooks, with the WHO standards only partially reflected. The analysis also showed that there were more keywords on oral diseases than those related to oral health management and prevention. Conclusions: Improvements should be made regarding the learning goals and education topics of health education in order to ensure that children receive a more systematic oral health education in their earlier years, which will help to develop and correct oral health management habits among elementary school students.

학문과 학자가 요구하는 초등학교 수준의 물리분야 기본개념과 교과와 교사가 인지하고 표현하는 기본개념의 일치도 연구 (The Differences between Physicists' Expectations and Teachers' Representations about the Primary Physics Concepts in Elementary Schools)

  • The purpose of this study was the identifying differences between physicists' expectations and teachers' representations about the primary physics concepts in elementary schools. For this, the material subjects analyzed were the 7th curriculum, the textbooks of elementary school and the texts using at the department of physics in many universities. The primary physics concepts extracted from the texts were to be fundamental and basic. Also, they were restricted to the domain of dynamics. And besides, the human subjects were physicists, professors and students majoring physics of the graduate school, researchers of institutes or laboratories and elementary school teachers. At the result of this study showed the scholars and teachers have the different opinions.

초등 과학교과서에 제시된 현장학습의 분석 (The Analysis of Field Trip Activities in Elementary Science Textbooks)

  • 본 연구에서는 우리나라 제 7차 교육과정에 의해 저술된 초등학교 과학교과서에 포함된 현장학습 관련 내용을 현장학습의 유형 및 현장학습 요소에 따라 분석하였다. 분석 결과, 초등학교 과학교과서에 실린 현장학습은 3학년부터 6학년까지 학기당 평균 4.25건이 제시되어 있으며, 지구와 생명 영역에 집중되어 있다. 현장학습 장소는 학교 내 환경과 지역사회의 자연 환경으로 한정되어 있으며, 기본 개념의 습득을 목적으로 하는 경우가 주를 이루었다. 현장학습에서 의 활동은 단순한 활동으로 끝나는 접근 방식보다는 과학 지식의 습득 및 이해를 이끌어 교육과정과 통합시키는 접근 방식이 많았으며, 학생 활동을 단계별로 안내하는 경우가 대부분이었다. 현장학습의 사전활동 및 정리활동은 그 내용이 미미한 경우가 많았으며, 현장학습에서 유의점은 대부분의 경우 안내되지 않았다. 현장학습이 일회성 행사로 끝나지 않고 교육과정과 통합되는 방식으로 이루어지기 위해서는 교과서에서 체계적으로 제시하고 안내하는 것이 요구되며, 교육과정과 연계된 다양한 현장학습 장소의 발굴 및 학생들의 인지 수준에 적절하고 과학 학습과 과학에 대한 흥미를 높이는데 효과적인 현장학습 활동의 개발이 요구된다.

초등학교 과학 교과서의 텍스트에 대한 어휘와 문장 단위의 이독성 분석 (An Analysis on the Readability of the Texts in Elementary School Science Textbooks in Terms of Word and Sentence Units)

  • In this study, the readability of the texts in the third and the sixth grade science textbooks developed under the 2007 revised science curriculum were analyzed in terms of word and sentence units. In the word unit analyses, the levels of the words in the texts were classified into four categories, 1st to 4th levels. In the sentence unit analyses, the sentences in the texts were classified either a simple sentence or compound/complex sentences, and the average length of the sentences was also calculated. The results indicated that more than 90 percents of the words in the 2007 revised science textbooks were classified as the 1st to the 3rd levels. However, both the kinds and the frequencies of the words in the 2007 revised science textbooks were increased in comparison of those in the 7th science textbooks. In particular, it was found that the increasement in the 3rd grade science textbook was noticeable. The ratio of the compound/complex sentences in the 2007 revised science textbooks were increased in comparison of those in the 7th science textbooks. The average length of the sentences in the 2007 revised science textbooks was also increased.

제6차와 7차 초등학교 과학 교과서에 제시된 비유 비교분석 (A Comparative Analysis of Analogies in Elementary Science Textbook by the 6th and 7th Curriculum)

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the analogies used in elementary science textbooks. For this, the analogies were classified into the following criteria : analogy-related contents included in elementary science text-books, types of representation style, and the role of analogy. The results of this study were as follows : the total of analogies was 154 in the 6th and 166 in the 7th curriculum. Most of them were expressed in textbooks and experimental texts. More structural/functional, verbal/pictorial, concrete/concrete, concrete/abstract, simple and enriched analogies were included in the science textbooks of the 7th than those of the 6th. Most of them took the role as an aid to understanding. According to the domain of science content, energy, material, life domains were increased in the 7th than the 6th, with the exception of the earth science domain. The ratio of used analogies in the life domain was higher than the others, and in the material domain it was the lowest. From these results, it can be said that, in order to help students' understanding, further research into the application of analogies is needed.

창의성과 과학에 대한 태도 함양을 위한 창의적 사고기법 적용 효과 (The Effects of Application of Creative Thinking Technique for Development on Creativity and Attitude toward Science)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the impact of the application of a creative thinking technique for development on the creativity and attitude toward science of the students in elementary school. In order to better assist students' levels of creative thinking process, creative thinking techniques were reorganized based on the features of creative learning content in science textbooks. Furthermore, related units from an elementary science textbook were analyzed to map out the lesson plans. The findings of the study were as follows. First, the creative thinking technique developed in this study could be applicable to teaching-learning activities. When a creative thinking technique is applied, that should carefully be selected in consideration of all the creativity elements to be covered in class, and that should be used in a manner to be covered in class, and that should be used in a manner to be appropriate at learner level. Second, the utilization of the creative technique turned out to have a good impact on boosting the creativity of the elementary schoolers. Third, the utilization of the creative technique turned out to exert a good influence on fostering the school children's attitude toward science.

과학 탐구 능력 향상을 위한 수행 평가 자료 개발 - 초등학교 3, 4학년용 자료 - (The Development of Performance Assessment Materials to Improve Scientific Inquiry Skills - Focused on the Third and Fourth Grades in Elementary School -)

  • The purpose of this study was to develop performance assessment materials of scientific inquiry skills on 62 scientific activities in elementary science textbook for third and fourth grades. For this study, a total of 318 elementary teachers were sampled and surveys were carried out to examine the status of performance assessment of scientific inquiry skills in school. The classification system of assessment methods by Hart(1994) was also analyzed to create assessment strategy of scientific inquiry skills for elementary school students. Based on the quantitative data analysis, literature study and existing performance assessment materials analysis, performance assessment materials were developed and applied to science classes for third and fourth grades. Teachers and students were interviewed after the classes for asking about merits and improvements and the performance assessment materials were revised.

초등학교 수학 교과서 개선과 편찬 상의 이슈 분석: 2015 개정 초등학교 수학 국정 교과용 도서를 중심으로 (An Analysis of Improvement and Compilation Issues of Mathematics Textbooks for Elementary Schools: Focusing on the 2015 Revised Elementary School Mathematics Textbook Government Published)

  • 본 논문은 2015 개정 교육과정에 따른 초등학교 수학국정 교과용 도서 편찬의 과정과 결과를 분석하여 향후 교과용 도서 편찬을 위한 시사점을 모색하였다. 2015 개정 초등 수학 국정 교과서 편찬은 전국의 학계와 학교 현장 전문가들이 전문성을 발휘할 수 있도록 체계적인 편찬 시스템을 갖추고 운영되었다. 내용상의 개선 사항으로는 기초 계산 능력 강화를 위한 단원과 차시를 증대하고, 수학 개념과 원리 도입 방식이나 알고리즘 제시 방식 개선 및 내용 간의 내적 연결성을 강화하였다. 학생들에게 이해가 어려운 내용은 상위 학기나 상위 학년으로 이동 배치하여 학습 시기를 조정하였다. 1~2학년군에서는 학생들의 한글수준에 맞게 읽을 분량을 대폭 축소하고, 문장과 어휘 개선 및 지시문을 간결하게 수정하였다. 편집·디자인 개선 사항으로는 단원별 도입 차시의 삽화와 차시별 맥락 그림을 세밀화로 연계하여 제시하였고, 교과서에 등장하는 인물들을 전 학년군에 걸쳐 일관성있게 제시하였다. 편찬 과정에서 교과서의 문장과 어휘 수준, 교과서 분량, 수학 익힘 문제 난이도 등 이슈가 제기되었으며, 이에 따른 교과서 편찬 개선 노력과 그 결과를 조망하였다. 위와 같이 전반적인 분석을 통하여, 향후 국정 교과서 및 검정 교과서 등 편찬을 위해 학생과 교사를 위한 교과서 편찬 개선 방안과 편찬 운영 방안을 제시하였다.
