  • The shape optimization procedure applying finite element method was carried out for the specific purpose of analysis of a tractor chassis frame. Minimization of the mass as an objective function is executed under multiple constrained conditions of nodal displacements and stresses. The optimization process executions were succeeded in converging into single optimum solution. Although mass reduction and stress alleviation were attained by 40% and 26 to 24% respectively , the geometry of the shape is so complicated for fabrication that the refinement of the geometry is of necessity.

  • The moire phenomena, which are induced by mask vibration due to the excitation of speakers, degrades the color purity of CRT. So it is important to eliminate this phenomena to obtain a good CRT design. In this study we analyze the mask vibration by experiment as well as finite element method. To obtain the finite element solutions efficiently, an equivalent model was employed. The experimental and analysis results show reasonable agreements. An enhanced design configuration of mask welding points are suggested through this study.

  • Composite sabot can increase the penetration performance of APFSDS projectile by reduction of the sabot weight. However, it has a thick-sectioned lamination and the lamination structure is different from those of the conventional composite parts. In this study, modeling technique for a thick and radially-laminated composite part has been applied in the finite element analysis of composite sabot. Four models of composite lamination for the sabot have been proposed and evaluated for their structural strength.

  • In this paper, a simplified vibration analysis model for bellows was presented to avoid excessive effort required for shell model. To reduce degree of freedom, bellows was modelled using one dimensional beam element. The equivalent mass and stiffness matrices were obtained based upon Guyan reduction process. The results were compared with the confirmed results, which were in good agreement.

  • 타이타늄은 지각 구성원소 중 아홉 번째로 풍부한 원소이다. 또한 구조용 금속으로서는 알루미늄, 철, 마그네슘에 이어서 네 번째로 풍부한 원소이다. 일반적으로 이러한 타이타늄은 Kroll법에 의해 만들어지고 있다. 최근 전 세계의 많은 연구자들에 의해서 새로운 타이타늄 제련법이 개발되어 왔다. 본 연구에서는 상업화 되었거나 개발 중인 신 제련 프로세스를 $TiCl_4$의 금속 열환원법, $TiO_2$ 등의 전해환원법, 그리고 수소를 이용한 환원법으로 분류하였다. 이러한 새로운 제련 프로세스의 환원기구와 현황에 대하여 종합하고 상업화 가능성의 관점에서 정리하였다.

Investigation of the accuracy of different finite element model reduction techniques

  • In this paper, various model reduction methods were assessed using a shear frame, plane and space truss structures. Each of the structures is one-dimensional, two-dimensional and three-dimensional, respectively. Three scenarios of poor, better, and the best were considered for each of the structures in which 25%, 40%, and 60% of the total degrees of freedom (DOFs) were measured in each of them, respectively. Natural frequencies of the full and reduced order structures were compared in each of the numerical examples to assess the performance of model reduction methods. Generally, it was found that system equivalent reduction expansion process (SEREP) provides full accuracy in the model reduction in all of the numerical examples and scenarios. Iterated improved reduced system (IIRS) was the second-best, providing acceptable results and lower error in higher modes in comparison to the improved reduced system (IRS) method. Although the Guyan's method has very low levels of accuracy. Structures were classified with the excitation frequency. High-frequency structures compared to low-frequency structures have been poor performance in the model reduction methods (Guyan, IRS, and IIRS).

  • Most of the studies use model order reduction for low frequency (LF) response analysis due to their high computational efficiency. In LF response analysis, one of model order reduction, algebraic substructuring (AS) retains all LF modes when using the modal superposition. However, in mid-frequency (MF) response analysis, the LF modes make very little contribution and also increase the number of retained modes, which leads to loss of computational efficiency. Therefore, MF response analysis should consider low truncated modes to improve the computational efficiency. The current work is focused on improving the computational efficiency using a AS and a frequency sweep algorithm. Finite element simulation for a MEMS resonator array showed that the performance of the presented method is superior to a conventional method.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the seismic performance of hollow RC bridge columns with reinforcement details for material quantity reduction. The proposed reinforcement details provide economy, are rational and shorthen the construction periods. The accuracy and objectivity of the assessment process can be enhanced by using a sophisticated nonlinear finite element analysis program. Solution of the equations of motion is obtained by numerical integration using Hilber-Hughes-Taylor (HHT) algorithm. The adopted numerical method gives a realistic prediction of seismic performance throughout the input ground motions for several test specimens investigated. As a result, the proposed reinforcement details for material quantity reduction develop equal performance to that required for existing reinforcement details.
