  • We demonstrate relaxation of roll-off characteristics by controlling the dopant concentrations and the thickness of an emitter layer in electrophosphorescence diodes composed of 2,6-dicarbazolo-1,5-pyridine (PYD2)-host doped with 25 wt%-Iridium(III)bis[(4,6-di-fluorophenyl)-pyridinato-$N,C^2$] picolinate (FIrpic).

  • Significant progress has been realized in the design and synthesis of light emitting polymers that emit over the entire visible spectrum. However, up to seventy-five percent of charge recombination events can lead to triplet states that decay non-radiatively. Following the pioneering work in the field of small molecule organic light emitting devices, it has been found that solution processible iridium polymer complexes can be used to harness the wasted triplet energy. In this paper, new results with respect to the electrophosphorescence of solution processible tethered iridium polymer derivatives are presented. Furthermore, our approaches to the design of new high triplet energy conjugated polymer hosts are also reported.

  • A new blue electroluminescent conjugated polymer, poly(BP-alt-BCV), was prepared by Hornor-Emmons polycondensation and used as a host polymer for the phosphorescent dopant, $(bsn)_2Ir(acac)$. Poly(N-vinylcarbazole) (PVK), known as a blue EL material, was also used for comparison with poly(BP-alt-BCV). Electrophosphorescence of PLEDs with these dopant/host systems was investigated in terms of luminescence, efficiency, emission color, and energy transfer.

  • Achieving red light-emitting diodes with high quantum and luminous efficiency is required to fabricate the full-color organic electroluminescence display. In this work, we report that devices with 2.3,7,8,12,13,17,18-Octaethyl-21H,23H-porphine palladium (II) (PdOEP), doped into tris(8-Hydroxyquinolinato)-aluminum (III) (Alq3) show a narrow deep red emission (670nm). In addition, PdOEP has been used as host material in which red dyes such as 4-(Dicyanomethylene)-2-methyl-6-(4-dimethylaminostyryl)-4H-pyran (DCM) doped in order to fabricate efficient red-emitting diodes.

  • We have studied the effect of host materials on the electrophosphorescence properties by comparing three different host materials such as tris(8-hydroxyquinoline)-aluminum (III) $(Alq_3)$, bis(8-hydroxyquinoline)-zinc (II) $(Znq_2)$, and 4,4'-N,N' dicarbazole-biphenyl (CBP) doped with a red-emissive phosphorescent dye, 2,3,7,8,12,13,17,18-octaethyl-21H,23H-porphyrin platinum (II) (PtOEP). The EL spectra show a strong red emission (peak at 650 nm) from the triplet excited state of PtOEP and a very weak emission from an electron transport layer of $Alq_3$ and a hole transport layer of N,N'-diphenyl-N,N'-bis(3-methylphenyl)-1,1-biphenyl-4,4'-diamine (TPD). We find that the triplet exciton lifetime and the quantum efficiency decrease in the order of CBP, $Alq_3$, and $Znq_2$ host materials. The results are interpreted as a poor exciton confinement in $Alq_3$, and $Znq_2$ host compared with in CBP. Therefore, it is very important for the triplet-exciton confinement in the emissive layer for obtaining a high efficiency.

  • We report the syntheses, photophysical properties and device performances of solution processible host material for green-phosphorescent OLEDs. The butterfly-shaped new host materials with nonconjugated linkage of carbazole and fluorene moieties have large triple energy band gap around 2.8 eV. All of the EL devices exhibited turn-on voltages in the range of 4.8-5.0 V. GH-4 exhibited the best performance with a maximum current efficiency and power efficiency of 21.1 cd/A and 7.9 lm/W.

  • In this study, we have investigated transient properties of top emission organic light emitting diode (OLED) with a red electrophosphorescent dopant. The emission spectrum shows a strong peak at 620 nm accompanied with a small peak at 675 nm in the red region. Time evolution of electrophosphorescence reveals a decay time of 703 ms at a voltage pulse of 5 V in a device with an emitting area of 20 $mm^2$. Rise and delay times vary from 450 to 14 ms and 73 to 3 ms, respectively, as the voltage amplitude increases from 4.5 to 10 V. These results are compared with the red emitting device without an electron injection layer.

  • The electrophosphorescent emission properties were investigated in polymer light-emitting diodes (PLEDs) based on a poly(9-vinylcarbazole) (PVK) doped with a green phosphorescent dye of fac-tris(2-phenylpyridine) iridium (III) [$Ir(ppy)_3$]. A green light peaked at 516 nm was emitted from devices with a configuration of ITO/PEDOT:PSS/PVK:$Ir(ppy)_{3}$/BCP/$Alq_{3}$/LiF/Al. The optimal doping concentration of $Ir(ppy)_{3}$ in PVK was found at 2% by weight, under which maximum current efficiency of 24.3 cd/A and peak external quantum efficiency of 6.8% were achieved at the high luminance of 4240 $cd/m^{2}$. The external quantum efficiency of 5% and current efficiency of 18 cd/A can be sustained even at the very high luminance of 35000 $cd/m^{2}$.
