Study on OTFT-Backplane for Electrophoretic Display Panel (전기영동 디스플레이 패널용 OTFT-하판 제작 연구)

  • We fabricated flexible electrophoretic display(EPD) driven by organic thin film transistors(OTFTs) on plastic substrate. We designed the W/L of OTFT to be 15, considering EPD's transient characteristics. The OTFTs employed bottom contact structure and used Al for gate electrode, the cross-linked polyvinylphenol for gate insulator, pentacene for active layer. The plastic substrate was coated by PVP barrier layer in order to remove the islands which were formed after pre-shrinkage process and caused the electrical short between bottom scan and top data metal lines. Pentacene active layer was confined within the gate electrodes so that the off current was controlled and reduced by gate electrodes. Especially, PVA/Acryl double layers were inserted between EPD panel and OTFT-backplane in order to protect OTFT-backplane from the damages created by lamination process of EPD panel on the backplane and also accommodate pixel electrodes through via holes. From the OTFT-backplane the mobility was $0.21cm^2/V.s$, Ion/Ioff current ratio $10^5$. The OTFT-EPD panel worked successfully and demonstrated to display some patterns.

Preparation of Alumina-Silica Composite Coatings by Electrophoretic Deposition and their Electric Insulation Properties (EPD 방법을 이용한 알루미나-실리카 복합 코팅막의 제조와 전기절연 특성)

  • Alumina-silica composite coating layers were prepared by electrophoretic deposition (EPD) of plate-shaped alumina particles dispersed in a sol-gel binder, which was prepared by hydrolysis and the condensation reaction of methyltrimethoxysilane in the presence of colloidal silica. The microstructure and the electrical and thermal properties of the coatings were compared according to the EPD process parameter: voltage, time and the content of the plate-shaped alumina particles. The electrical insulation property of the coatings was measured by a voltage test. The coatings were prepared by EPD of the sol-gel binder with 5-30 wt% plate alumina particles on parallel electrodes at a distance of 2 cm for 1-10 min under an applied voltage of 10-30 V. The coatings experienced increased breakdown voltage with increasing thickness. However, the higher the thickness was, the smaller the breakdown voltage strength was. A breakdown voltage as high as 4.6 kV was observed with a $400{\mu}m$ thickness, and a breakdown voltage strength as high as 27 kV/mm was achieved for the sample under a $100{\mu}m$ thickness.

Soluble Proteins Analysis of Class Cephalopoda in the Yellow Sea(I) (황해산 두족류의 가용성 단백질에 대한 연구 (I))

  • To investigate a possibility of the species genetic relationship for the soluble proteins analysis on the class Cephalopoda in the Yellow Sea, the isolate eye, muscle and liver proteins from five species (Sepia esculenta, Sepiella japonica, Loligo chinensis, Loligo beka and Octopus minor) were analysed using different electrophoretic techniques (Davis-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis, SDS-PAGE, exponential gradient SDS-PAGE, thin-layer isoelectro-focusing and two-dimensional PAGE). The average molecular weight of the soluble eye and muscle proteins was estimated at 35-50 KDa, separated b the exponential gradient SDS-PAGE. It was corresponds to that of electrophoretic patterns by t재 dimensional PAGE. By which the thin layer IEF, the target proteins showed a reasonable specificity based on their isoelectric points (pI) 7.5-8.5.

  • This studies' objective methods of identifying fish species are based on the species-specific protein-separation patterns obtained on electrophoresis of watersoluble sarcoplasmic proteins of fish muscle. As the proteins must be in their native undenatured state, electrophoretic identification of fish species has, so far, been restricted to raw fish. An extention of the electrophoretic method to the identification of cooked fish is discribed. The protein fragments extractable in 10M urea from the denatured proteins of cooked muscle can also be separated by electrophoresis into species' characteristic patterns that could be used for species identification. The separation patterns obtained on polyacrylamide gel for the urea extracts of cooked Mugil cephalus, Gadus macrocephalus, Scomberomorus niphonius, Scomber japonicus, Pseudosciaena manchurica, Seriola quinqueradiata, Trichius lepturus, Duderleinia berycoides, Lophimus setigerus, Pampus argenteus are presented. In its present form the method does not apply to canned fish.

Study on the Temperature Adaptation of Contractile Myofibrillar Proteins from Fish Species (어류의 수축성 근섬유단백질의 온도 적응성에 관한 연구)

  • To investigate on the biochemical characteristics of myofibrillar proteins between cold(pollack, salmon) and warm current fish (yellow corbina, shark), myofibrils and actomyosin were prepared, and their biological activities, effect of temperature on the myofibrillar ATPase activities and SDS-polyacrylamide gel electrophoretic patterns of myofibrils were compared. SDS-polyacrylamide gel electrophoretic analysis showed that electrophoretic patterns of myofibril vary from fish to fish. Difference in KCl concentration dependency of myofibrillar ATPase activities and ATPase activity- pH curve were found among fish species. Myofibrillar proteins from cold current fish showed higher specific activity at low temperature $(5^{\circ}C-10^{\circ}C)$ than those from warm current fish.

  • We used the electrophoretic deposition (EPD) process to fabricate a glass composite and investigated the EPD parameters to find the optimum deposition time by understanding the relationship among the process parameters of zeta potential (ZP), pH, deposition yield and saturation point. A binder and a dispersing agent were mixed properly with glass frit ($0.2{\sim}25{\mu}m$, d50=$8.77{\mu}m$) in an ethyl alcohol medium for the preparation of the slurry. The pH and ZP were in an inverse relationship to each other due to the generation of $H_3O^+$ ions with the addition of the dispersing agent in the slurry. The acidic nature of the dispersing agent was resulted in a decrease of the pH and an increase of the ZP. Otherwise, the pH increased with the addition of the glass frit in the slurry because $H_3O^+$ ions were absorbed on the glass frit. Therefore, the $OH^-$ ions correspondingly increased. The saturation point of EPD was strongly correlated with the variation of the pH in the slurry; this is caused by a chemical reaction between the ethyl alcohol and the ions that make up the glass frit. An adjustment of the pH variation and the saturation point in the slurry can be established with respect to the optimum deposition time in the slurry.

  • In this work, a nano-sized samaria-doped ceria(SDC) was prepared by a urea-based hydrothermal method and characterized by XRD, FESEM and TEM. It was observed that the increase in synthesis time and temperature gave rise to crystallity and particles size. Moreover, the synthesised powders had a excellent ion-conductivity(0.1 S/cm at 600~$800^{\circ}C$) which is suitable for electrolyte of intermediate temperature-solid oxide fuel cell(IT-SOFC). Fatty Acid Composition and Electrophoretic Patterns of Proteins of Korean Soybeans (우리나라 콩의 지방산 조성 및 단백질의 전기영동 패턴)

  • Fatty acid composition and electrophoretic patterns of protein of Korean soybeans were studied, The protein content showed an inverse relation with the lipid content, The content of lipid types of total lipid was in the order of neutral lipid, glycolipid and phospholipid, Cultivar 102-B had higher content of neutral lipid but lower content of phospholipid compared with others. The main component of neutral lipid was triglyceride followed by sterol. The main fatty acids of total lipid were linoleic, oleic and palmitic acids, which comprised over 85% of total fatty acids. The main fatty acid of neutral lipid, glycolipid and phospholipid were linoleic acid. The polyacrylamide gel electrophoretic pattern of protein showed seven bands. The cultivar 102-B had the highest content of IIS globulin. Sodium-dodecyl sulfate PAG electrophoresis demonstrated that all soybeans had similar composition of subunit.

  • The preparation method of yttria-stabilized zirconia(YSZ) thin film for an anode support type solid oxide fuel cell(SOFC) by electrophoretic deposition(EPD) and dip-coating was studied. And the difference in both preparation method was investigated through basic understanding of processing parameters which may significantly affect weight microstruxcture and defect of film. In dip-coating the thickness of film increased with time until 30 s and then the weight of film decreased with time due to particle falling off from the coagulated film. In EPD although the weight of film increased with time and applied constant-current sagging of the film was observed when the applied current was less that 0.035 mA/$cm^2$ and more than 120 s. Since YSZ thin film by EPD on porous substrate was dense smooth and homogeneous it was expected to be suitable for the electrolyte of an anode support type SOFC.

  • This study was carried out to investigate the histomorphological changes and the electrophoretic patterns of egg components, obtained from 100 of 2-year-old female catfishes (Silurus asotus). Female Korean catfishes collected in the vicinity of Chollabukdo have synchronous ovaries which discontinously ovulate eggs during the breeding season (from late May until early July). The fishes were killed by severing the spinal cord just posterior to the head after immobilization with tricaine methanesulfonate (MS 222). Especially, the light microscopic and ultrastructural changes of ooplasm and follicular membranes of oocytes, were examined by means of light and transmission electron microscopy. The size of the nucleoli and number of the yolk granules increased as the oocyte groved. Yolk granules were deposited in the oocyte as fluid Due to tile presence of large early and late maturing oocytes, their ovaries were enlarged, transparent, granular and greenish in color. As the percentages of fish in late maturing oocyte (LMO) and ripe oocyte (RO) stage increased from March to April, mean gonadosomatic index (GSI) values (19.95%) increased. Zona radiata changed from squamous into cuboid in shape in the early maturing oocyte (EMO) stage. Processes, microvilli, from the zona radiata and from the oocyte grow, and make contact with each other in the pore canals of the zona radiata during vitellogenesis, but are withdrawn as the zona radials becomes more compact and devoid of pore canals during oocyte maturation. Seasonal changes in the microscopic appearance of the ovaries were well correlated with those in both gonadosomatic index and macroscopic appearance. The main cytological changes such as increase in size of cell, nucleus, nucleolus, and increase in number of nucleoli and mitochondria demonstrated with electron microscopy in the previtellogenic oocytes of Korean catfish, provided evidences for important synthetic processes in an early preparatory phase of oocyte development. The electrophoretic pattern of major band in mature stage was much thicker (24 k, 66 k, 90-110k dalton) than that in previtellogenic phase.
