Terahertz wave is a kind of electromagnetic radiation whose frequency lies in 0.1THz $\~$10THz range. In this paper, generation and detection characteristics of terahertz (THz) radiation by photoconductive antenna (PCA) method has been described. Using modern integrated circuit techniques, micron-sized dipole antenna has been fabricated on a low-temperature grown GaAs (LT-GaAs) wafer. A mode-locked Ti:Sapphire femtosecond laser beam is guided and focused onto photoconductive antennas (emitter and detector) to generate and measure THz pulses. Ultra-wide band THz radiation with frequencies between 0.1 THz and 3 THz was observed. Terahertz field amplitude variation with antenna bias voltage, pump laser power, pump laser wavelength and probe laser power was investigated. As a primary application example. a live clover leaf was imaged with the terahertz radiation.
A numerical method for scattering of electromagnetic waves from a periodic strip grating over a grounded dielectric slab is considered for TE and TM polarization cases from the viewpoints of both reflection grating problem and leaky wave antenna problem. The analysis is based on a mode expansion method, floquet's theorem, and the method of moments. Numerical results involving some combinations of geometric parameters are presented in terms of complex propagation constant (kd-$\beta$d diagram), radiation pattern, and relative scattered powers of spectral modes. In particular, the relationship between complex propagatio constnat form the viewpoint of leaky wqve antenna problem and Off-bragg and bragg blazing phenomena from the viewpoint of reflecton graing problem is investigated.
Plasma Display Panel(PDP) is a type of flat panel display utilizing the light emission produced by gas discharge. Barrier Ribs of PDP separating each sub-pixel prevents optical and electrical crosstalks from adjacent sub-pixels. The mold for forming the barrier ribs has been newly researched to overcome the disadvantages of conventional manufacturing processes such as screen printing, sand-blasting and photosensitive glass methods. The mold for PDP barrier ribs have stripes of micro grooves transferring glass-material wall. In this paper, Stripes of grooves of which width 48${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$, depth 124$\mu\textrm{m}$ , pitch 274$\mu\textrm{m}$ was acquired by machining of single crystal silicon with dicing saw blade. Maximum roughness of the bottom of the grooves was 59.6nm Ra in grooving Si. Barrier ribs were formed with silicone rubber mold, which is transferred from grooved Si forming hard mold. Silicone rubber mold has the elasticity, which enable to accommodate the waveness of lower glass plate of PDP. The methods assisted by the microwave and UV was adopted for reducing the forming time of glass paste.

An analysis method for the electromagnetic scattering of a tE polarized plane wave from a periodic strip grating over a grounded dielectric slab is consisered from the viewpoint of reflectio ngraing problem. The strip gratings showing bragg and off-bragg balzing phenomena at the frequency of 10GHz are designed, respectively. The strip grating structure is implemented using aluminum plate (hround conductor), paraffin(dielectric material ; .xi.$_{\gamma}$=2.24) and copper (strip conductor ; 0.08mm thickness). The experimental results (reflection power) for bragg as well as off-bragg blazing phenomenon have been compared with the theoretical results and fairly good agreements between theory and experiment have been observed.ed.
A time-domain combined field integral equation (CFIE) is presented to obtain the transient scattering response from arbitrarily shaped three-dimensional conducting bodies. This formulation is based on a linear combination of the time-domain electric field integral equation (EFIE) with the magnetic field integral equation (MFIE). The time derivative of the magnetic vector potential in EFIE is approximated using a central finite difference approximation and the scalar potential is averaged over time. The time-domain CFIE approach produces results that are accurate and stable when solving for transient scattering responses from conducting objects. The incident spectrum of the field may contain frequency components, which correspond to the internal resonance of the structure. For the numerical solution, we consider both the explicit and implicit scheme and use two different kinds of Gaussian pulses, which may contain frequencies corresponding to the internal resonance. Numerical results for the EFIE, MFIE, and CFIE are presented and compared with those obtained from the inverse discrete Fourier transform (IDFT) of the frequency-domain CFIE solution.
We experimentally investigated discharge phenomena inside vacuum interrupter at 1 to 20 Torr to simulate the vacuum leakage. We used glass type of vacuum interrupter where the internal pressure and the type of gasses can be varied according to requirement. The experiment is conducted under ac applied voltage and the experimental circuit is constructed to simulate the actual circuit used in cubical type insulated switchgear. We used two types of gases such as air and $SF_6$. The use of glass type vacuum interrupter allowed us to measure discharges occurring in vacuum interrupter optically. We measured and discussed the discharge occurring in both gases with a current transformer and ICCD camera. We a1so revealed that electromagnetic wave spectra emitted by the discharge have same frequency range for both gasses.
An electromagnetic acoustic transducers (EMAT) can usually generate or detect an ultrasonic wave into specimens across a small gap. Especially stiffness of composites depends on layup sequence of CFRP(carbon fiber reinforced plastics) laminates because the layup of composite laminates influences there properties. It is very important to evaluate the layup errors in prepreg laminates. A nondestructive technique can therefore serve as a useful measurement for detecting layup errors. It was shown experimentally that this shear waves for detecting the presence of the errors is very sensitive. It is found that high probability shows between tests and the model developed in characterizing cured layups of the laminates. Also a C-scan method was used for detecting layup of the laminates because of extracting fiber orientation information from the ultrasonic reflection caused by structural imperfections in the laminates. Therefore, it was found that interface C-scan images show the fiber orientation information by using two-dimensional fast Fourier transform(2-D FFT).
As increasing underground facilities, more effective management is needed nowadays. It is important to get an accurate information of underground facilities to manage that, so some methods of detecting location - electromagnetic induction method, ground penetration radar method, sound wave method - are used to obtain the information of underground facilities. In this study, a magnetic method to detect underground facilities was developed. In the magnetic method, underground facilities are detected by a detector and the magnetic marker which is a permanent magnet and used to marking the location by attaching underground facilities. A test field was constructed for experiment with the magnetic marker, PVC pipe, and steel pipe under ground 1.5m, and a ferromagnetic detector was used for measurement. Magnetic strengths of the magnetic marker were measured by the detector at each location in the test field, and analyzed by magnetic field analysis tool in the same condition. In the result, the underground pipes of 1.5m below were detectable within the deviation $\pm$0.2m. When For applying this method, it should be considered that ferromagnetic materials around the detector could affect a measured value.
