This paper presents a fully integrated 5 GHz band low phase noise LC tank VCO. The implemented VCO is tuned by integrated PN diodes and tuning rage is 5.01∼5.30 GHz with 0∼3 V control voltage. For improved phase noise performance, a LC filtering technique is adapted. The measured phase noise is -87.8 dBc/Hz at 100 kHz offset frequency and -111.4 dBc/Hz at 1 MHz offset frequency which is excellent performance. Moreover phase noise is improved by 5 dB after employing the LC filter. It is the first experimental result in field of InGaP/GaAs HBT VCOs. The figure of merit of the fabricated VCO with LC filter is -172.1 dBc/Hz. It is the best result among 5 GHz InGaP HBT VCOs. Moreover this work shows lower DC power consumption, higher output power and more fixed output power compared with previous 4, 5 GHz band InGaP HBT VCOs.

This paper proposes the design and measurement of a 6-18 GHz front-end receiver module that has been combined into a one- channel output from a two-channel input for electronic warfare support measures (ESM) applications. This module includes a limiter, high-pass filter (HPF), power combiner, equalizer and amplifier. This paper focuses on the design aspects of reducing the noise figure (NF) and matching the phase and amplitude. The NF, linear equalizer, power divider, and HPF were considered in the design. A broadband receiver based on a combined configuration used to obtain low NF. We verify that our receiver module improves the noise figure by as much as 0.78 dB over measured data with a maximum of 5.54 dB over a 6-18 GHz bandwidth; the difference value of phase matching is within $7^{\circ}$ between ports.

In this paper, a systematic and statistical calibration technique was implemented to calibrate a high-speed signal converting system containing multiple digital-to-analog converters (DACs). The systematic error (especially the imbalance between DACs) in the current combining network of the multi-DAC system was modeled and corrected by calculating the path coefficients for individual DACs with wideband reference signals. Furthermore, by applying a Kalman filter to suppress noise from quantization and clock jitter, accurate coefficients with minimum noise were identified. For correcting an arbitrary waveform generator with two DACs, a co-simulation platform was implemented to estimate the system degradation and its corrected performance. Simulation results showed that after correction with 4.8 Gbps QAM signal, the signal-to-noise-ratio improved by approximately 4.5 dB and the error-vector-magnitude improved from 4.1% to 1.12% over 0.96 GHz bandwidth.

In this paper, the formulation of the protection ratio based upon a composite fade margin and availability is newly presented for the detailed planning of frequency coordination in the microwave relay system network, and computed results for co-channel and adjacent channel protection ratios are illustrated over an actual system with 6.2 GHz. It is shown that the protection ratio to assure a quality of service can be expressed in terms of the composite fade margin, noise-to-interference ratio, net filter discrimination, and system parameters. In addition, the net filter discrimination, depending upon the transmitter spectrum mask and the overall receiver filter characteristic, has been examined to investigate the effect of the adjacent channel protection ratio caused by the adjacent channel interference. Regarding simulated results for 6.2 GHz, 60 km, 64-QAM, and N/I=6 dB at the bit error rate of $10^{-6}$, composite fade margin and co-channel protection ratio yield 25.14 and 50.3 dB, respectively. Also, the net filter discrimination of 26.5 dB and the adjacent channel protection ratio of 23.8 dB are obtained at the first adjacent channel of 30 MHz. The proposed method provides some merits in view of a comprehensive and practical application with more detailed and various system parameters needed to access the criteria for making the proper frequency coordination.
A non-integrated type noise filter on a Coplanar Waveguide (CPW) transmission line is demonstrated by using a highly resistive $Co_{41}Fe_{38}Al_{13}O_8$ nanogranular thin film with the dimensions of $4\;mm (\iota)\times4\;mm(\omega)\times0.1\;{\mu}m(t)$. The noise suppression characteristics are evaluated without placing an insulating layer between the CPW line and the magnetic thin film. The insertion loss is very low being less than 0.3 dB and this low value is maintained up to 2 GHz. At a ferromagnetic resonance frequency of 3.3 GHz, the power loss is very large and the degree of noise attenuation is measured to be 3 dB. This level of noise attenuation is still small for real applications; however, considering the small magnetic volume used in this work, further improvement is expected by simply increasing the magnetic volume and by integrating the magnetic thin film into the CPW transmission line.

There are several ways for reducing EMI(Electromagnetic Interference) in the switching power supply, which can be largely divided into suppression methods in the noise source, noise path solution, and attenuation techniques using the filter. In this paper, the method will be discussed to simplify the design process of the filter along with the noise path solution. In particular, some practical EMI suppression methods are suggested for SMPS, which is widely used recently, with or without a chassis, respectively and also verified through the experimental results of a 10W flyback converter.

MTI filter is used to separate target signal from clutter in many radar signal processing. By suppressing clutter before CFAR detection, the detection performance can be improved. As a radar system designed, a design engineer generally takes averaged SNR and CNR into account and does not include the effect of MTI filter's frequency response. In practice, when the signals including clutter are pass through the filter, SNR is widely varying according to target velocity and CNR is also varying according to clutter center frequency and spectrum spreading. In this paper, we have derived the relationship between the MTI filter's frequency response and a target's velocity and a clutter's spectrum characteristics. With the variation of SNR and CNR at the filter output, the detection performance of CFAR has been analyzed by the simulation and has made certain of their influences on the performance.

The beacon receiver is an equipment which detects and measures the signal strength of transmitting satellite beacon signal. Beacon signals transmitted by satellites are low power continuous wave(CW) signals without any modulation intended for antenna steering to satellite direction and power control purposes on the earth. The beacon signal detection method using a very narrow band analog filter and RSSI(Received Signal Strength Intensity) has been typically used. However, it requires the implementation to track the frequency at the beacon receiver, thus a beacon frequency variation of the satellite due to temperature changes and long-term operation. Therefore, in this paper, the beacon signal detection receiver is designed by using a very narrow band digital filter array for a faster acquisition and SNR(Signal to Noise Ratio) method detection. For this purpose, by calculating the satellite link budget with the rain attenuation between satellite and ground station, and then extracting the received $C/N_o$ of the beacon signal, this work derives the bandwidth and the array number of the configured digital filter that gives the required C/N.

In this paper, unusual harmonics noise problem of digital electronic products in mass production was introduced and a practical solution was proposed. Generally, 5th or higher harmonics noise level has been ignored in circuit designs because over 5th harmonics noise decreases by 40 (dB/decade). Through some measurements, it is confirmed that over 10th harmonics noise can propagate and radiate in case of a certain PCB or housing conditions. We propose a capacitively loaded micro-strip low pass filter for commercial products having spatial design constraints and measured the effectiveness. The proposed structure can solve both of the continual increment of harmonics noise level and the spatial design constraint of commercial products. We expect the proposed method be effectively used for various digital electronic products.

OFDM is very effective for the high speed communication system. However, OFDM has the problems of high PAPR and serious ICI, which is different from the single carrier system. Especially, ICI problem caused by phase noise, Doppler effect and frequency offset is main reason for poor performance since it breaks down the orthogonality between subcarriers in OFDM communication system. Therefore, WFMT modulation scheme is studied and the effect of the carrier frequency offset and phase noise is analyzed. WFMT modulation scheme is based on the wavelet theory and complex filter banks for synthesis and analysis of multichannel signal. WFHT modulation scheme keeps on the advantage of filter banks system and can be easily possible for the implementation of filter banks. In this paper, we compare ISI and ICI distortions of the WFMT and OFDM system due to the carrier frequency offset and phase noise. Also, we analyze the PAPR and BER performances in the HPA and ICI situation caused by the Doppler frequency shift and the frequency offset.
