Effects of Addition of Al foil for Electrolytic Capacitors I. Shape Parameters of Etch Tunnel and Capacitance (전해 콘텐사용 알루미늄박의 애칭특성에 미치는 황산첨가의 영향 I. 에치터널의 형상 및 정전 용량)

  • In order to investigate the effects of addition of 1M sulfuric acid to the etching solution or 1M hydrochloric acid on the etching behavior of aluminum foil for electrolytic capacitors, the changes in the density of etch pit, the length and diameter of etch tunnels and the capacitance were analyzed using SEM, TEM, LCR meter etc. Sulfate ion as a corrosion inhibitor was contributed to the increase of the surface area comparing with chloride ion. By adding sul-furic acid the density of etch pit and the length of etched tunnel increased and the diameter of the tunnel decreased, resulting in the increase of capacitance. It was also shown that the capacitance decreased when the current density was below $0.9A/\textrm{cm}^2$, while remarkably increased in the other case.

  • An aluminum electrolytic capacitor is used in DC Link of ac motor drive system. In this case it usually has the shortest lifetime in the system and then determines the system lifetime. Therefore life estimation of the electrolytic capacitor is needed for maintenance of th circuit. In this paper a method for life estimation is presented with a ESR(equivalent series resistance) model and a heat transfer model of capacitor that can be used to estimate operating temperature it is investigated through a simple example using ESR and heat transfer.

  • Light emitting diode(LED) lighting has been applied various industry fields because of its high efficiency, low power consumption, long life time, and environment friendly characteristics. Generally, LED lighting needs a driver to maintain constant current. Most popular driver is the switching converter. In the converter, there are several electrolytic capacitors. However the lifespan of the electrolytic capacitor is much shorter than LED. Therefore the lifespan of LED lighting with electrolytic capacitor is decreased. Also, LED lighting needs dimming control because of various needs and energy saving. This paper presents the dimmable single-stage PFC DCM flyback converter without electrolytic capacitor and parallel LC resonant filter for reducing 120[Hz] ripple on the output. The type 2 controller is used to maintain constant current and the analog dimming control is used. The proposed converter is verified through simulation and experimental works.

  • Due to the large capacity and low cost, electrolytic capacitors with of energy storage and voltage regulation are used for almost all types of non-linear load as the DC/DC converter. Electrolytic capacitor, which is the most of the time affected by the aging effect, plays very important role for the power converter system quality and reliability. Therefore, this paper proposes a new method to detect the changes the capacitance value of an electrolytic capacitor in order to analyze the internal characteristic and worn-out state of an electrolytic capacitor. Simulation results by frequency analysis show the validity of the proposed capacitance estimation algorithm.

  • This paper proposes a single-stage interleaved totem-pole on-board battery charger with a simple structure and a reduced component count. Apart from achieving ZVS turn-on of all switches and ZCS turn-off of all diodes, this charger does not require an input filter due to its CCM operation and bulky electrolytic capacitors, which in turn result in a high power density. A single-stage power conversion technique is applied to the interleaved structure in order to achieve a high power density and high efficiency. A 2.5 kW prototype of the proposed charger is also built and tested to validate the proposed operation.

  • This paper proposes a transformerless photovoltaic (PV) power converter system based on the DC/AC boost inverter, which can solve the leakage current and second-order ripple power issues in single-phase grid-connected PV inverters. In the proposed topology, the leakage current can be decreased remarkably since most of the common-mode currents flow through the output capacitor, by-passing parasitic capacitors, and grounding resistors. In addition, the inherent ripple power component in the single-phase grid inverter can be suppressed without adding any extra components. Therefore, bulky electrolytic capacitors can be replaced by small film capacitors. The effectiveness of the proposed topology has been verified by simulation and experimental results for a 1-kW PV PCS.
