Novel silane grafted bentonite was obtained using the natural bentonite as precursor material. The material which is termed as nanocomposite was characterized by the Fourier Transform Infra-red (FT-IR) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) methods. The surface imaging and elemental mapping was performed using Scanning Electron Microscopic (SEM/EDX) technique. The electroanalytical studies were performed using the nanocomposite electrode. The electroactive surface area of nanocomposite electrode was significantly increased than the pristine bentonite or bare carbon paste based working electrode. The impedance spectroscopic studies were conducted to simulate the equivalent circuit and Nyquist plots were drawn for the carbon paste electrode and nanocomposite electrodes. A single step oxidation/reduction process occurred for As(III) having ΔE value 0.36 V at pH 2.0. The anodic stripping voltammetry was performed for concentration dependence studies of As(III) (0.5 to 20.0 ㎍/L) and reasonably a good linear relationship was obtained. The detection limit of the As(III) detection was calculated as 0.00360±0.00002 ㎍/L having with observed relative standard deviations (RSD) less than 4%. The presence of several cations and anions has not affected the detection of As(III) however, the presence of Cu(II) and Mn(II) affected the detection of As(III). The selectivity of As(III) was achieved using the Tlawng river water sample spiked with As(III).
Co(II) complexes with tridentate Schiff base-NOIPH and tetradentate Schiff base-$NOTDH_2$ and $TNBPH_4$ were synthesized. The redox process of the complexes in DMF solution containing 0.1M TBAP was investigated at glassy carbon electrode by cyclic voltammetry and differential pulse voltammetry techniques. Reduction step of [Co(II)$(NOIP)_2$] and [Co(II)$(H_2O)_2$] complexes were observed in two step as one electron process of irreversible or quasi-reversible and diffusion-controlled reaction. [$Co(II)_2$(TNBP)] complex was observed in one step as one electron process of quasi-reversible and diffusion-controlled reaction.
In the present study, mixed carbon-supported platinum(Pt) nanoparticles were prepared by a chemical reduction method of Pt precursor solution on two types of carbon materials such as activated carbons(ACs) and graphite nanofibers(GNFs). Average crystalline sizes and loading levels of Pt metal particles could be controlled by changing a content of GNFs. The highest electroactivity for methanol oxidation was obtained by preparing the carbon supports having 15 wt% GNFs. Furthermore, with an increase of GNFs content from 0% to 15%, an electrical conductivity was changed from $10^{-4}S/cm$ to $10^{-1}S/cm$. By an introduction of 10 wt% GNFs additive, the electroactivity of platinum particles was enhanced, but was saturated in the case of 15 wt% GNFs contents. This was related with the fact that the electroactivity change was dependent on the electrical conductivity of mixed carbon supports and Pt particle deposition content or deposition morphology.
Ion shower doping with a main ion source of $P_2H_x$ using a source gas mixture of $PH_3/H_2$ was conducted on excimer-laser-annealed (ELA) poly-Si.The crystallinity of the as-implanted samples was measured using a UV-transmittance. The measured value using UV-transmittance was found to correlate well with the one measured using Raman Spectroscopy. The sheet resistance decreases as the acceleration voltage increases from 1kV to 15kV at the moderate doping conditions. It, however, increases as the acceleration voltage increases under the severe doping conditions. The reduction in carrier concentration due to electron trapping at uncured damage after activation annealing seems to be responsible for the rise in sheet resistance. Three different annealing methods were investigated in terms of dopant-activation and damage-recovery, such as furnace annealing, excimer laser annealing, and rapid thermal annealing, respectively.

The titanium oxide thin films were prepared by anodic oxidation. The Photo-electrochemical properties of the electrodes were studied in 1 M NaOH solution. The flat band potentials of $TiO_2$ electrodes prepared by anodic oxidation showed around -0.8V and the values were shifted 0.2V to the positive potential direction that of single crystal $TiO_2$. Reduction potential of oxygen by cyclic voltammetry showed around -0.95V vs. SCE and these reactions were processed totally irreversible. The photocurrent of electrodes were showed shorter wavelength than that of single crystal $TiO_2$ and its current density decreased.
Nanoscale Chevrel $Mo_6S_8$ powders are synthesized by molten salt synthesis. Synthesized $Mo_6S_8$ powders have different mean particle sizes which are dependent on a ratio of salt to precursor. The particle sizes of $Mo_6S_8$ powders changes along with the ratio increase. $Mo_6S_8$ (6:1) demonstrates the best electrochemical characteristics among the synthesized $Mo_6S_8$ powders although the $Mo_6S_8$ (4:1) has the smallest particle size. $Mo_6S_8$ (6:1) shows a reversible capacity of 83.9 $mAhg^{-1}$, which is 27.5% and 33% improved value over $Mo_6S_8$ (2:1) and $Mo_6S_8$ (4:1) at a current density of 0.2C, respectively. The superior electrochemical properties of $Mo_6S_8$ (6:1) are attributed to the balanced particle size which provides proper contact area with electrolyte and the shortened $Mg^{2+}$ diffusion length. The $Mo_6S_8$ (4:1) has the smallest particle size but further reduction of particle size from $Mo_6S_8$ (6:1) is not advantageous.
Polymer electrolyte membranes (PEMs) are key components to determine electrochemical fuel cell performances, in addition to electrode materials. The PEMs need to satisfy selective transport behaviors to small molecules including gases and protons; the PEMs have to transport protons as fast as possible, while they should act as hydrogen barriers, since the permeated gas induces the thermal degradation of cathode catalyst, resulting in rapid electrochemical reduction. To date, limited tools have been used to measure how fast hydrogen gas permeates through PEMs (e.g., Constant volume/variable Pressure (time-lag) method). However, most of the measurements are conducted under vacuum where PEMs are fully dried. Otherwise, the obtained hydrogen permeance is easily changeable, which causes the measurement errors to be large. In this study, hydrogen permeation properties through Nafion212 used as a standard PEM are evaluated using an in-situ measurement system in which both temperature and humidity are controlled at the same time.

Anodizing is a technology to generate thicker and high-quality films than natural oxide films by treating metals via electrochemical methods. It is a technique to develop metals for various uses, and extensive research on the commercial use has been performed for a long time. Aluminum anodic oxide (AAO) is generate oxide films, whose sizes and characteristics depending on the types of electrolytes, voltages, temperatures and time. Electrochemical manufacturing method of nano structure is an efficient technology in terms of cost reduction, high productivity and complicated shapes, which receives the spotlight in diverse areas. The sulfuric acid was used as an anodizing electrolyte, controlling its temperature to $10^{\circ}C$. The anode was 5083 Al alloy with dimension of $5(t){\times}20{\times}20mm$ while the cathode was the platinum. The distance between the anode and the cathode was maintained at 3 cm. Agitation was introduced by magnetic stirrer at 300 rpm to prevent localized temperature rise that hinders stable growth of oxide layer. In order to observe surface characteristics with applied current density, the electrolyte temperature, concentration was maintained at constant condition for $10^{\circ}C$, 10 vol.%, respectively. To prevent hindrance of stable growth of oxide layer due to local temperature increase during the experiment, stirring was maintained at constant rate. In addition, using galvanostatic method, it was maintained at current density of $10{\sim}30mA/cm^2$ for 40 minutes. The cavitation experiment was carried out with an ultrasonic vibratory apparatus using piezo-electric effect with modified ASTM-G32. The peak-to-peak amplitude was $30{\mu}m$ and the distance between the horn tip and specimen was 1 mm. The specimen after the experiment was cleaned in an ultrasonic, dried in a vacuum oven for more than 24 hours, and weighed with an electric balance. The surface damage morphology was observed with 3D analysis microscope. As a result of the investigation, differences were observed surface hardness and anti-cavitation characteristics depending on the development of oxide film with applied current density.

An ideal orthopedic implant should provide an excellent bone-implant connection, less implant loosening and minimum adverse reactions. Commercial pure titanium (CP-Ti) and Ti alloys have been widely utilized for biomedical applications such as orthopedic and dental implants. However, being bioinert, the integration of such implant in bone was not in good condition to achieve improved osseointegraiton, there have been many efforts to modify the composition and topography of implant surface. These processes are generally classified as physical, chemical, and electrochemical methods. Plasma electrolytic oxidation (PEO) as an electrochemical route has been recently utilized to produce this kind of composite coatings. Mg ion plays a key role in bone metabolism, since it influences osteoblast and osteoclast activity. From previous studies, it has been found that Mg ions improve the bone formation on Ti alloys. PEO is a promising technology to produce porous and firmly adherent inorganic Mg containing $TiO_2$($Mg-TiO_2$ ) coatings on Ti surface, and the amount of Mg introduced into the coatings can be optimized by altering the electrolyte composition. In this study, a series of $Mg-TiO_2$ coatings are produced on Ti-6Al-4V ELI dental implant using PEO, with the substitution degree, respectively, at 0, 5, 10 and 20%. Based on the preliminary analysis of the coating structure, composition and morphology, a bone like apatite formation model is used to evaluate the in vitro biological responses at the bone-implant interface. The enhancement of the bone like apatite forming ability arises from $Mg-TiO_2$ surface, which has formed the reduction of the Mg ions. The promising results successfully demonstrate the immense potential of $Mg-TiO_2$ coatings in dental and biomaterials applications.

Power densities produced by the permeation of methanol through membranes were directly measured by inserting the membrane in front of anode in a membrane-electrode-assembly of a direct methanol fuel cell (DMFC). The power density was closely related to the loss of power in the DMFC and was strongly affected by temperature. As the cell temperature was increased, the power density resulting from methanol crossover was increased. The increase in methanol crossover had be attributed to diffusion caused or affected by temperature. Methanol crossover a major effect on the performance of a DMFC at a relatively low temperature with $26\%\;loss\;at\;30^{\circ}C$. In order to reduce methanol crossover, a conventional Nafion membrane was modified by the incorporation of Pt or Pd. The reduction in methanol crossover was investigated in these modified membranes by our cell performance measurement. Pt and Pd particles incorporated in the Nafion membranes block methanol pathway and prevent methanol transport through the membranes, which was proved by combining with liquid chromatography.
