It is well known that most power steering systems obtain the power by a hydraulic mechanism. Therefore, it consumes more energy because the oil power should be sustained all the times. Recently, to solve this problem the Electric Power System(EPS) or Motor Driven Power System(MDPS) has widely equipped in passenger vehicles. In this research the concurrent simulation technique for an EPS system with MATLAB/SIMULINK and a full vehicle model has been developed. The dynamic responses of vehicle chassis and steering system are evaluated. Then, a full vehicle model interacted with EPS control is concurrently simulated with an impulsive steering wheel torque input to analyze the stability of 'free control' or hands free motion for SUV. This integrated method allows engineers to reduce the prototype testing cost and to shorten the developing period.

Due to the development of electric and hybrid vehicles, the trend has changed from hydraulic power steering system to electric power steering system (EPS). In this paper, design parameters are deduced through the structural analysis based on the finite element analysis for the intermediate shaft of the EPS on the market. By analyzing the design parameters, the structure design is improved to support the required high torque on the EPS. The numerical analysis is performed to obtain the improved design of the intermediate shaft model and the analysis results are compared with the existing model. It is noted through this numerical approach that the improved design of the intermediate shaft can be acquired the structural safety and high stiffness than existing model.
Electric Power Steering(EPS) system is superior to conventional Hydraulic Power Steering(HPS) system in aspect of fuel economy and environmental concerns. The EPS system consists of torque sensor, electric motor, ECU(Electric Control Unit), gears and etc. Among the elements, the torque sensor is one of the core technologies of which output signal is used for main input of EPS controller. Usually, the torque sensor has used torsion bar to transform torsion angle into torque. The torsion angle of both ends of a torsion bar is measured by a contact variable resistor. In this paper, the sensor is accurately analyzed using 3D finite element method and its characteristics with respect to four different shapes of the stator teeth are compared. The four shapes are rectangular, triangular, trapezoidal and circular type.
As enforced the regulation of fuel efficiency, the electrification of automotive components in internal combustion vehicle has been applied instead of hydraulic pressure. A typical example of such parts is the EPS (electric power steering), and it is applied to most automotive at present. In electric power steering system, the core component is motor. The reduction of cogging torque and torque ripple is required to improve steering feeling and reduce NVH (Noise Vibration Harshness) in EPS. Generally the skewed design of stator or rotor is applied in order to reduce cogging torque and torque ripple. This paper propose the design and analysis methodology of Brusheless PMSM (Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor) which is applied to skewed stator. The proposed methodology is as follows: First Intial Design PMSM with skewed stator for EPS, Second Optimal design using RSM (Response surface method), Third Performance Analysis such as Phase Back EMF, Inductance, Load torque using FEA (Finite Element Method). Finally, the reliability of proposed design methodology will be verified through the experiments of prototype sample.
This paper presents development of a vehicle lateral and longitudinal control for autonomous driving control and test results obtained using an electric vehicle. Sliding control theory has been used to develop a vehicle speed and distance control algorithm. The longitudinal control algorithm that maintains safety and comfort of the vehicle consists of a cruise and STOP&GO control depending on traffic conditions. Desired steering angle is determined through the lateral position error and the yaw angle error based on preview optimal control. Motor control inputs have been directly derived from the sliding control law. The performance of the autonomous driving control which is integrated with a lateral and longitudinal control is investigated by computer simulations and driving test using an electric vehicle. Electric vehicle system consists of DC driving motor, an electric power steering system, main controller (Autobox)

In recent years, due to heightened environmental awareness, Electric Power Steering (EPS) has been increasingly adopted as the steering control unit in manufactured vehicles. This has had numerous benefits, such as improved steering power, elimination of hydraulic hose leaks and reduced fuel consumption. However, for EPS systems to respond to actions, sensors must be employed; this means that the consistency of the sensor's linear variation is integral to the stability of the steering response. To ensure quality control, a reliable method for detecting defects and assessing linearity is required to assess the sensitivity of the EPS sensor to changes in the internal design characters. This paper proposes a data-driven defect and linearity assessment monitoring system, which can be used to analyze EPS component defects and linearity based on vehicle speed interval division. The approach is validated experimentally using data collected from an EPS test jig and is further enhanced by the inclusion of a Graphical User Interface (GUI). Based on the design, the developed system effectively performs defect detection with an accuracy of 0.99 percent and obtains a linearity assessment score at varying vehicle speeds.

A lot of conventional automotive components driven by mechanical power source are being replaced with electrical ones to comply with the demands of market and customer, therefore the amount of electric energy used in a vehicle will be increased continuously. The increment of electric power demand causes interest on new higher power system such as 42V Power Net, and furthermore necessity for development of energy storage device is highlighted recently. This paper present the design of the BLDC motor for electric air-conditioner in 42V system and compare with the characteristics of several type BLDC motor.
This paper presents steering system requirements to ensure the stabilized lateral control of autonomous driving vehicles. The two main objectives of a lateral controller in autonomous vehicles are maintenance of vehicle stability and tracking of the desired path. Even if the desired steering angle is immediately determined by the upper level controller, the overall controller performance is greatly influenced by the specification of steering system actuators. Since one of the major inescapable traits that affects controller performance is the time delay of the steering actuator, our work is mainly focused on finding adequate parameters of high level control algorithm to compensate these response characteristics and guarantee vehicle stability. Actual vehicle steering angle response was obtained with Electric Power Steering (EPS) actuator test subject to various longitudinal velocity. Steering input and output response analysis was performed via MATLAB system identification toolbox. The use of system identification is advantageous since the transfer function of the system is conveniently obtained compared with methods that require actual mathematical modeling of the system. Simulation results of full vehicle model suggest that the obtained tuning parameter yields reduced oscillation and lateral error compared with other cases, thus enhancing path tracking performance.

Through the AUTOSAR methodology, the embedded software shall become more flexible, reusable, maintainable than ever. However, it is not mentioned about specific timing constraints of software components in AUTOSAR. There are a few basic principles for mapping runnable entities. At this point, AUTOSAR software design with optimal scheduling method is one of the enabling technologies in vehicle embedded system. This paper presents an approach based on mapping runnable entities and task scheduling design method for EPS (Electric Power Steering) software components, based on AUTOSAR. In addition, the experimental results of concurrent simulation show that the proposed scheduling technique and timing synchronization in the software component design can achieve the improved torque ripple performance and it well suited for EPS application software.

In many case of optimal design and sensitivity analysis, obtaining of transfer function between input and output variables is a difficult and time-consuming problem. The bond graph modeling is a method that is used for making it easy to analyze complex systems composed of mechanical and electrical parts. It gives us a simple and systematic tool to get state-space equations easily. And we can obtain the transfer function graphically using bond graph and Mason's rule. This paper shows how bond graphs are converted to block diagram and how Mason's rule is applied. And the simple direct method to obtain transfer function from bond graph is introduced. As a example, induction of transfer function of electric power steering composed of mechanical and electrical parts will be done.
