In case of deep excavation analysis, the theory of beam on elasto-plastic geo-material (elasto-plastic theory) can not consider the inclined ground layers appropriately. It is frequently assumed that the soil layers are parallel to the surface. However, the soil layers are generally inclined and even asymmetric. The common modelling of the asymmetric half section of the excavation system using the elasto-plastic theory, can lead differences from the real behaviour of ground, which has critical significance in case of deep excavation in urban area. In this study, an attempt to find appropriate modelling methods was made by carrying out a comparative study between the FEM and the elasto-plastic analyses. It is shown that in case of the upward-inclined soil profile the elasto-plastic theory may underestimate the performance of retaining structures.
Recently, when being constructed the large structures, the deep excavations have performed to utilize the underground space. As the ground excavation is deeper, the damage of the adjacent structure and the ground is frequently occurred. the Analysis of the retaining structures is necessary to safety of the excavation works. There are many methods such as elasto-plastic theory, FEM, and FDM to analyze the displacement of the retaining structure. In this thesis, GEBA-1 program by the Nakamura-Nakajawa elasto-plastic method was developed. The lateral displacement of the wall was analyzed by the developed program GEBA-1, SUNEX, and EXCAD, and compared with the measured displacement bye the Inclinometer. The monitored fields were three excavation work site in S-I, S-II, and S-III area. Excavation method of each site is braced retaining wall using H-pile. Excavation depth is 14m, 14m, and 8.2m.
Recently, the finite element method has been sucessfully extended to treat the rather couplet phenomena such as nonlinear buckling problems which are of considerable practical interest. In this study, a finite element program to evaluate the elasto-plastic buckling stress is developed. The Stowell's deformation theory for the plastic buckling of flat plates, which is in good agreement with experimental results, is used to evaluate bending stiffness matrix. A bifurcation analysis is performed to compute the elasto-plastic buckling stress. The subspace iteration method is employed to find the eigenvalues. The results are compared with corresponding enact solutions to the governing equations presented by Stowell and also with experimental data due to Pride. The developed program Is applied to obtain elastic and elasto-plastic buckling stresses for various loafing cases. The effect of different plate aspect ratio is also investigated.
An improved analysis model for material nonlinearity induced by elasto-plastic deformation and damage including a large strain response was proposed. The elasto-plastic-damage constitutive model based on the continuum damage mechanics approach was adopted to overcome limitations of the conventional plastic analysis theory. It can manage the anisotropic tonsorial damage evolved during the time-independent plastic deformation process of materials. Updated Lagrangian finite element formulation for elasto-plastic damage coupling problems including large deformation, large rotation and large strain problems was completed to develop a numerical model which can predict all kinds of structural nonlinearities and damage rationally. Finally a finite element analysis code for two-dimensional plane problems was developed and the applicability and validity of the numerical model was investigated through some numerical examples. Calculations showed reasonable results in both geometrical nonlinear problems due to large deformation and material nonlinearity including the damage effect.

The paper presents results of FE simulations of the strain-rate sensitive concrete behaviour under dynamic loading at the macroscopic level. To take the loading velocity effect into account, viscosity, stress modifications and inertial effects were included into a rate-independent elasto-plastic formulation. In addition, a decrease of the material stiffness was considered for a very high loading velocity to simulate fragmentation. In order to ensure the mesh-independence and to properly reproduce strain localization in the entire range of loading velocities, a constitutive formulation was enhanced by a characteristic length of micro-structure using a non-local theory. Numerical results were compared with corresponding laboratory tests and available analytical formulae.
The paper presents experimental and numerical investigations of prefabricated composite structural building reinforced concrete slabs with the insulating material for a residential building construction. The building slabs were composed of concrete and expanded polystyrene. In experiments, the slabs in the full-scale 1:1 were subjected to vertical concentrated loads and failed along a diagonal shear crack. The experiments were numerically evaluated using the finite element method based on two different constitutive continuum models for concrete. First, an elasto-plastic model with the Drucker-Prager criterion defined in compression and with the Rankine criterion defined in tension was used. Second, a coupled elasto-plastic-damage formulation based on the strain equivalence hypothesis was used. In order to describe strain localization in concrete, both models were enhanced in the softening regime by a characteristic length of micro-structure by means of a non-local theory. Attention was paid to the formation of critical diagonal shear crack which was a failure precursor.
To improve the durability of a hydrogen pressure vessel which is applied high-pressure, it needs the autofrettage process which induces compressive residual stress in the Aluminum liner. This study presents the elasto-plastic analysis to predict the behavior of structure accurately, and the Tsai-Wu failure criterion is applied to predict failure of pressure vessel of Aluminum liner and composite materials. Generally, plastic analysis is more complex than elastic analysis and has much time to predict. To complement its weakness, the AxicomPro(EXCEL program), applied radial return algorithm and nonlinear classical laminate theory (CLT), is developed for predicting results with more simple and accurate than the existing finite element analysis programs.
This paper presents a non-linear analysis procedure for plane frame structures by finite element formulation with assumptions of Timoshenko beam theory. Finite element displacement method based on Lagrangian formulation is used and two-noded and isoparametric line element is adopted to represent finite element model. The layered approach is used for the elasto-plastic analysis of the plane frame structures with rectangular and I cross sections. A load incremental method combined with the tangent stiffness and the initial stiffness methods for each load increment is used for the solution of non-linear equations. Numerical examples are presented to investigate the behavior and the accuracy of the elasto-plastic non-linear application and the results of this study are compared with other solutions using the concept of plastic hinge.
