This paper proposes a robust method for the Ramberg-Osgood (R-O) fit to accurately estimate elastic-plastic J from engineering fracture mechanics analysis based on deformation plasticity. The proposal is based on engineering stress-strain data to determine the R-O parameters, instead of true stress-strain data. Moreover, for practical applications, the method is given not only for the case when full stress-strain data are available but also for the case when only yield and tensile strengths are available. Reliability of the proposed method for the R-O fit is validated against detailed 3-D Finite Element (FE) analyses for circumferential through-wall cracked pipes under global bending using five different materials, three stainless steels and two ferritic steels. Taking the FE J results based on incremental plasticity using actual stress-strain data as reference, the FE J results based on deformation plasticity using various R-O fits are compared with reference J values. Comparisons show that the proposed R-O fit provides more accurate J values for all cases, compared to existing methods for the R-O fit. Advantages of the proposed R-O fit in practical applications are discussed, together with its accuracy.

The deformation mechanism of hexagonal close-packed materials is quite complicate including slips and twins. A deformation mechanism, which accounts for both slip and twinning, was investigated for polycrystalline hop materials. The model was developed in a finite element polycrystal model formulated with initial strain method where the stiffness matrix in FEM is based on the elastic modulus. We predicted numerically the texture of Mg alloy(AZ31B) sheet by using FEM based on crystal plasticity theory. Also, we introduced the recrystallized texture employed the maximum energy release theory after rolling. From the numerical study, it was clarified that the shrink twin could not be the main mechanism for shortening of c-axis, because the lattice rotation due to twin rejects fur c-axis to become parallel to ND(normal direction of plate). It was showed that the deformation texture with the pyramidal slip gives the ring type pole figure having hole in the center.

The continuous casting process has been adopted increasingly in recent years to save both energy and labor. It has experienced a rapid development in the production of semi-finished steel products, replacing the conventional route of ingot casting plus rolling. To achieve this good merit, however, more studies about a heat transfer mechanism between roll and slab are needed. So this paper shows the results of the deformation behavior of steel cast slabs, which are about the solidification and heat transfer. This study is used to prevent internal cracks of a slab in a bending and unbending zone. The value of moving strand shell bulging between two supporting rollers under ferrostatic pressure and slab-self weight has been computed in terms of creep and elastic-plasticity. The high strand distributions in solidified shell undergoes a series of bulging are calculated with boundary condition a very closed to continuous steel cast slabs productions.

At the time when nanostructured materials (NSMs) are becoming a major focus of materials research, the attention of researchers is turning more to their mechanical performance. In contrast with conventional coarse grained materials, which are either strong or ductile, but rarely both at the same time, it is expected that with NSMs both high strength and ductility can be achieved and confirmed by several experimental studies. In spite of the significant interest and efforts in the mechanical properties of NSMs, deformation mechanisms during plastic deformation as well as elastic deformation are not well established yet. In this talk, the deformation mechanisms of NSMs under various grain sizes, temperatures and strain rates were investigated. It is based on recent modelling that appears to provide a conclusive description of the phenomenology and the mechanisms underlying the mechanical properties of NSMs. Based on the theoretical model that provides an adequate description of the grain size dependence of elasticity and plasticity covering all grain size range from coarse down to the nanoscale, the tensile deformation response of NSMs, especially focusing on the deformation mechanisms was investigated.

Recently, as steel structures become higher and more long-spanned, application of high strength steel. SM570, is considered, For accurate seismic design, seismic analysis of steel structures needs a constitutive equation describing the characteristic of steel materials under non-proportional cyclic loading, While the use of SM570 material is much increased these days, research for description and generalization of cyclic plasticity behavior are insufficient, In this study, a cyclic plasticity model is proposed by results of material tests, i.e, monotonic and low cycle tests, Proposed cyclic plasticity model is applied to 3-Dimensional FE program and we carried out seismic analysis of pipe-section steel pier using SM570, Comparison between experiment and analysis results shows that the proposed constitutive equation is able to describe exactly the complicated plastic behavior of steel structure using SM570.

Metallic sandwich plates constructed of two face sheets and low relative density cores have lightweight characteristics and various static and dynamic load bearing functions. To predict the formability and performance of these structured materials, a computationally efficient FE-analysis method incorporating virtual equivalent projected model has been newly introduced for analysis of metallic sandwich plates. Two dimensional models using the projected shapes of 3D structures have the same equivalent elastic-plastic properties with original geometries including anisotropic stiffness, yield strength and linear hardening function. The projected shapes and virtual properties of the virtual equivalent projected model have been estimated analytically with the same equivalent properties and face buckling strength of 3D pyramidal truss core.

In order to investigate the cause of fluting in tangential bending of low carbon steel sheet, an analytic analysis, an experiment and a series of finite element analysis for bending process were done. The fluting in bended sheet was due to the yield point elongation of material. Due to the yield point elongation, unstable plastic hinge was occurred in course of bending of elastic perfectly plastic sheet. According to the analysis and computational results, lower yield point elongation than 5% was required to prevent fluting in $0.5{\sim}0.6t$ sheet in $15{\sim}20mm$ radius bending.

Dimensional accuracy is very important quality in micro forged part, especially on forged part. Dimension of forged part is changed continuously during forging process. Loading, unloading and ejecting stage affects dimensional of the forged tool. The elasto-plastic material model for billet and elastic model for die were used to analyze these changes. At same time, the calculated results were compared and analyzed by the experiment on same conditions. From the experimental and analytical studies, we can calculated the amount of difference between die and forged part, that is 0.49% based on the die dimension. The dimensional change is smaller than that of general sized-forged part,0.6%.

Flexible die is more efficacious than fixed die which is generally used in stretch forming process in view of production cost. Accordingly, in order to verily the validity of the flexible forming process, curved thin skin structure forming analyses using the fixed and flexible die were performed. As results, merit and demerit with regard to the fixed and flexible die were confirmed. The result of the stretch forming process analysis using the flexible die was better than that using the fixed die in view of the elastic recovery. However wrinkles were occurred on the sheet material due to die cavities between the punches in the flexible forming process, thus the solutions against these problems were presented.
