We describe a efficient surface reconstruction method that reconstructs a 3D manifold polygonal mesh approximately passing through a set of 3D oriented points. Our algorithm includes 3D convex hull, octree data structure, signed distance function (SDF), and marching cubes. The 3D convex hull provides us with a fast computation of SDF, octree structure allows us to compute a minimal distance for SDF, and marching cubes lead to iso-surface generation with SDF. Our approach gives us flexibility in the choice of the resolution of the reconstructed surface, and it also enables to use on low-level PCs with minimal peak memory usage. Experimenting with publicly available scan data shows that we can reconstruct a polygonal mesh from point cloud of sizes varying from 10,000 ~ 1,000,000 in about 1~60 seconds.
Recently, many high-rise apartment buildings using the box system composed of only reinforced connote walls and slabs, have been constructed In residential buildings such as apartments, vibrations occur from various sources and these vibrations transfer to neighboring residential units through walls and slabs. It is necessary to use a refined finite element model for an accurate vibration analysis of shear wall building structures. But it would take significant amount of computational time and memory if the entire building structure were subdivided into a finer mesh. Therefore an efficient analytical method, which has only translational DOFs perpendicular to walls or slabs by the matrix condensation technique, is proposed in this study to obtain accurate results in significantly reduced computational time.
Recently, the use of biaxial hollow slab is increased to reduce noise and vibration of the floor slab. Therefore, an efficient method for the vibration analysis of biaxial hollow slab is required to describe dynamic behavior of biaxial hollow slab. A finite element analysis is one of the method to analyze the biaxial hollow slab. It is necessary to use a refined finite element model for an accurate analysis of a floor slab with an effects of the hollow shape. But it would take a significant amount of computational time and memory if the entire building structure were subdivided into a finer mesh. Thus the proposed method uses equivalent plate model in this study. Dynamic analyses of an example structure subjected to walking loads were performed to verify the efficiency and accuracy of the proposed method.
Welding is the most convenient method for fabricating steel materials to build ships and of shore structures. However, welding using high heat processes inevitably produces welding displacements on welded structures. To mitigate these, heavy industries introduce various welding techniques such as back-step welding and skip-step welding. These techniques effect on the change of the distribution of high heat on welded structures, leading to a reduction of welding displacements. In the present study, various cases using different and newly introduced welding techniques are numerically simulated to ascertain the most efficient technique to minimize welding displacements. A numerical simulation using a finite element method based on the inherent strain, interface element and multi-point constraint function is introduced herein. Based on several simulation results, the optimal welding technique for minimizing welding displacements to build a general ship grillage structure is finally proposed.
Although vertically aligned one-dimensional (1D) structure has been considered as efficient forms for photoelectrode, development of efficient 1D nanostructured photocathode are still required. In this sense, we recently demonstrated a simple fabrication route for CuInS2 (CIS) nanorod arrays from aqueous solution by template-assisted growth-and-transfer method and their feasibility as a photoelectrode for water splitting. In this study, we further evaluated the photoelectrochemical properties surface-modified CIS nanorod arrays. Surface modification with CdS and ZnS was performed by successive ion layer adsorption and reaction (SILAR) method, which is well known as suitable technique for conformal coating throughout nanoporous structure. With surface modification of CdS and ZnS, both photoelectrochemical performance and stability of CuInS2 nanorod arrays were improved by shifting of the flat-band potential, which was analyzed both onset potential and Mott-schottky plot.
This paper posits that arm's length buyer-supplier relationship as the intermediate type between market exchange relations and strategic partnership might be advisable, and information technology may have a role as a mechanism actualizing the effects of such arm's length relationship by strategic supply-line diversification. Based on the theoretical analysis on interactive feedback relationships among IT level, buyer-supplier relationships, and supply chain structure, we suggest a set of advisable buyer-supplier relationship type for efficient supply chain management. Also, doing so would be helpful in suggesting a dynamic IT investment and adoption model appropriate for the establishment of productive buyer-supplier relationship, and further in providing theoretical foundations and practical guidelines on the role and function of B-to-B E-commerce for efficient SC integration.
It is main objective of this approach to present a method to analyse stochastic design sensitivity for problems of structural dynamics with randomness in design parameters. A combination of the adjoint variable approach and the second order perturbation method is used in the finite element approach. An alternative form of the constant functional that holds for all times is introduced to consider the time response of dynamic sensitivity. The terminal problem of the adjoint system is solved using equivalent homogeneous equations excited by initial velocities. The numerical procedures are shown to be much more efficient when based on the fold superposition method: the generalized co-ordinates are normalized and the correlated random variables are transformed to uncorrelated variables, whereas the secularities are eliminated by the fast Fourier transform of complex valued sequences. Numerical algorithms have been worked out and proved to be accurate and efficient : they can be readily adapted to fit into the existing finite element codes whose element derivative matrices can be explicitly generated. The numerical results of two cases -2 dimensional portal frame for the comparison with reference and 3-dimensional frame structure - for the deterministic sensitivity analysis are presented.
In the case of performing experimental modal analysis(EMA) and finite- element analysis(EFA) for a whole structure of automotive body that is composed of many complex parts, a trouble may arise from the calculation time, the capacity of memory in computers and the experimental conditions, etc. In this paper, for the vibrational analysis of automotive body model, the efficient modal synthesis method by means of dividing the whole structure into two parts and performing EMA and FEA for each part is studied. In addition, the method based on Lagrange interpolation is proposed for approximating rotational degrees-of-freedom information and linking FEA with EMA. In result, by measuring translational degrees-of-freedom information of only few points and adopting only few modes, the linking method based on Lagrange interpolation turned out to be efficient and accurate in the low frequency range.
Because submarine is high-technology and very complex system, it takes a lot of time, cost and manpower for design. For efficient concept design, application of systematic method is required such as system engineering. In this study, we studied application method of MBSE for submarine concept design with SWBS (Ship Work Breakdown Structure). Components of submarine system from SWBS were classified and organized as system architecture with 'Vitech CORE'. Through the MBSE application for concept design, systematic, efficient and traceable concept design of submarine was considered.
This paper presents an algorithm CAPFACT to evaluate the reliability of a capacitated two terminal network such as a communication network, a power distribution network, and a pipeline network. The network is good(working) if and only if it is possible to transmit successfully the required system capacity from one specified terminal to the other. This paper defines new Capacitated series-parallel reduction to be applied to a series-parallel structure of the network. New Capacitated factoring method is applied to a non-series-parallel structure. The method is based on the factoring theorem given by Agrawal and Barlow. According to the existing studies on the reliability evaluation of the network that the capacity is not considered, the factoring method using reduction is efficient. The CAPFACT is more efficient than Aggarwal algorithm which enumerated and combined the paths. The efficiency is proved by the result of testing the number of operations and cpu time on FORTRAN compiler of VAX-11/780 at Hanyang University.
