This study was undertaken to investigate for the possible use of enzymes with ${\alpha}-galactosidase$ and protease activities to remove flatulence factors as well as to improve the yield and protein digestibility in soymilk preparation. The volume and protein yield were not increased significantly by enzyme treatment. The solids yield increased by raising treatment pH 6 to 10, the temperature $30^{\circ}C\;to\;60^{\circ}C$ Enzyme treatment brought about a remarkable increase in TCA-soluble nitrogen compounds and a decrease in the contents of flatulence factors raffinose and stachyose.

This study was conducted to determine the effect of dietary whole-crop barley silage on the daily feed intake, daily weight gain, velvet antler yield and economic efficacy in elk during growth. A total of 21 elk (average BW 303 kg, 5 years old) were allotted randomly to three treatments. The three treatments were T1 (hay diet), T2 (whole-crop barley silage), and T3 (50% hay + 50% whole-crop barley silage). The average daily weight gain of T3 was higher than the others throughout the entire experimental period. The average daily feed intake of elk in decreasing order was as follows; T1>T3>T2. The velvet antler yield was higher in T3 group (8,585 g) compared with T1 (8,037 g) and T2 (7,713 g). However, there were no significant differences in the average daily feed intake, average daily weight gain, or velvet antler yield (p>0.05). In economic efficacy, T3 was gained about 29~43% more value than T1 or T2. In conclusion, the mixed feeding of 50% hay and 50% whole-crop barley silage was more effective than feeding hay of barley alone, in terms of average daily weight gain, velvet antler yield, and economic efficacy in elk.

This study was carried out to estimate growth characteristics of hot pepper and to develop predicted models for the production yield based on the growth parameters and climatic elements. Sigmoid regressions for the prediction of growth parameters in terms of fresh and dry weight, plant height, and leaf area were designed with growing degree days (GDD). The biomass and leaf expansion of hot pepper plants were rapidly increased when 1,000 and 941 GDD. The relative growth rate (RGR) of hot pepper based on dry weight was formulated by Gaussian's equation RGR $(dry\;weight)=0.0562+0.0004{\times}DAT-0.00000557{\times}DAT^2$ and the yields of fresh and dry hot pepper at the 112 days after transplanting were estimated 1,387 and 291 kg/10a, respectively. Results indicated that the growth and yield of hot pepper were predicted by potential growth model under plastic tunnel cultivation. Thus, those models need to calibration and validation to estimate the efficacy of prediction yield in hot pepper using supplement a predicting model, which was based on the parameters and climatic elements.

A practical technology for silkworm disease management at farmer\\`s level was suggested and test verified for its efficacy and adaptability. The technology consisted of disinfection of rearing house and appliances, early disease diagnosis, personal and rearing hygiene and silkworm body and rearing seat disinfection. Besides, the supportive techniques associated in disease management are cited. The validation trials of the technology involving 845 farmers crops with 147,530 disease free layings (dfls) of CSR bivoltine hybrids confirmed the effectiveness of the technology which resulted an average yield of 68.98 kg cocoons/100 dfls.

The field of cytochrome P450 pharmacogenomics has progressed rapidly during the past 25 years. Recently, conjugating enzymes including sulfotransferase, acetyltransferase, glucuronosyltransferase and glutathione transferase have been also extensively studied. All the major human drug-metabolizing P450 enzymes and some conjugating enzymes have been identified and cloned, and the major gene variants that cause inter-individual variability in drug response and are related to adverse drug reactions have been identified. This information now provides the basis for the use of predictive pharmacogenomics to yield drug therapies that are more efficient and safer. Today, we understand which drugs warrant dosing based on pharmacogenomics to improve drug treatment. It is anticipated that genotyping could be used to personalize drug treatment for vast numbers of subjects, decreasing the cost of drug treatment and increasing the efficacy of drugs and health in general. It is assumed that such personalized P450 gene-based treatment which is so-called tailor(order)-made drug therapy would be relevant for 10-20% of all drug therapy in the future.

Soybean (Glycine max), a crucial global crop, experiences yearly yield reduction due to diseases such as anthracnose (Colletotrichum truncatum) and root rot (Fusarium spp.). The use of fungicides, which have traditionally been employed to control these phytopathogens, is now facing challenges due to the emergence of fungicide-resistant strains. Streptomyces bacillaris S8 strain S8 is previously known to produce valinomycin t through a nonribosomal peptide synthetase (NRPS) pathway. The objective of this study was to evaluate the antifungal activity of S. bacillaris S8 against C. truncatum and Fusarium sp., assessing its efficacy against soybean pathogens. The results indicate that strain S8 effectively controlled both above-ground and underground soybean diseases, using the NRPS and NRPS-related compound, suggesting its potential as a biological control in plant-microbe interactions. These findings underscore the pivotal role of the stain S8 in fostering healthy soybean microbial communities and emphasize the significance of microbiota structure studies in unveiling potent biocontrol agents.
Caffeine and epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) are major constituents of green tea, the leaves of Camellia sinensis (Theaceae). Although EGCG is well known for diverse beneficial effect, caffeine is sometimes harmful with adverse effects. Therefore, the extraction efficiency was investigated using different extraction method such as extraction solvent, extraction time, extraction method, and repeated extraction. The content of EGCG and caffeine in green tea extract was quantitated by HPLC analysis. The extraction condition exerted difference on the extraction yield. The content of EGCG was also affected by different extraction condition. Especially, the extraction solvent greatly affected the content of EGCG in the extract. However, the content of caffeine was less affected compared to that of EGCG. The inhibitory effect of green tea extract on pancreatic lipase was almost similar regardless of extraction condition. Taken together, optimization of extraction condition will provide best efficacy for further development of green tea as anti-obesity therapeutics.
Attempts to develop drugs, specific for cancer cells, are dealt here according to the intended cell-target. While many target specific drugs were developed, they reach only moderate successes in clinics for reasons, such as, delivery problem, lack of in vivo efficacy or toxicity. However, recent efforts focusing on the diversity of tyrosine kinases, participating in cell-signal transduction, brought fruit. The first such drug, Givec, approved by the USFDA recently, is used in clinics with great success to threat CML. The drug inhibits tyrosin kinase of bcr-abl, c-abl and v-abl. Work is progressing on other tyrosin kinase inhibitors and on other type of specific cancer cell signal protein inhibitors. These efforts are hoped to yield better cures for cancer in the near future.
