Supercooling storage refers to lowering the product temperature below its freezing point without phase transition and has the potential to extend shelf life. Nevertheless, supercooled objects are in a thermodynamically unstable state, and nucleation can occur spontaneously. To achieve supercooling storage, slow cooling and insulation are essential. Hence, a stepwise algorithm for the supercooling storage of pork loins was designed and validated in this study. Pork loins were stored at 3℃, -18℃, and -3℃ (freezing), and supercooled for 16 days. All samples remained in a supercooled state and were unfrozen at the end of storage. Supercooled pork loins were superior in terms of drip loss, cooking loss, and water-holding capacity compared to frozen samples. Additionally, supercooling treatment prevented discoloration, increase of volatile basic nitrogen, and microbial growth. Thus, supercooling of pork loin was achieved using a stepwise program and was effective to maintain meat quality.

The objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of sequential applications of ${\varepsilon}$-polylysine (EPL) or lauramide arginine ethyl ester (LAE) sprays followed by an acidic calcium sulfate (ACS) spray on inoculated chicken carcasses to reduce Salmonella (Salmonella enterica serovars including Salmonella typhimurium and Salmonella enteritidis) contamination during 6 days of storage ($4.4^{\circ}C$). Secondly, reductions of the resident microflora were studied on uninoculated chicken carcasses following the sequential application of the treatments, chilling and 10 days of storage at $4.4^{\circ}C$. The treatment of Salmonella inoculated carcasses with 300 mg/L EPL followed by 30% ACS (EPL300-ACS30) sprays reduced Salmonella counts initially by 1.5 log cfu/mL and then by 1.2 log cfu/mL (p<0.05) following 6 days of storage at $4.4^{\circ}C$. Likewise, 200 mg/L LAE followed by 30% ACS (LAE200-ACS30) treatment reduced initial Salmonella counts on poultry carcasses by 1.8, 1.4 and 1.8 log cfu/mL (p<0.05), respectively, after 0, 3, and 6 days storage. Immediately after the treatments, EPL300-ACS30 and LAE200-ACS30 both reduced Escherichia coli counts significantly by 2.6 and 2.9 log cfu/mL, respectively. EPL300-ACS30 and LAE200-ASC30 were effective in lowering psychrotroph counts by 1 log cfu/mL on day 10 when compared to the control and distilled water treatments. This study demonstrated that EPL300-ACS30 and LAE200-ACS30 were effective in reducing Salmonella on inoculated chicken carcasses both after treatment and during the storage at $4.4^{\circ}C$ for up to 6 days. In addition, reductions in psychrotroph counts indicated that these treatments might have the potential to increase the shelf-life of poultry carcasses.
It may be difficult to make exact estimates of peak discharge or runoff depth of a flood and to establish the proper measurement for the flood protection since water stages or discharges have been rarely measured at small river basins in Korea. Three small catchments in the Su-Young river basin in Pusan were selected for the study areas. Various runoff parameters for the study areas were determined, and runoff analyses were performed using three different runoff models available in literatures; the storage function method, the discrete, linear, input-output model, and the linear reservoir model. The hydrographs calculated by three different methods showed good agreement with the observed flood hydrographs, indicating that the models selected are all capable of sucessfully modeling the flood events for small watersheds. The storage function method gave the best results in spite of its weakness that it could not be applicable to small floods, while the linear reservoir model was found to provide relatively good results with less parameters. The capabilities of simulating flood hydrographs were also evaluated based on the effective rainfall from the storage function parameters, the $\Phi$-index method, and the constant percentage method. For the On-Cheon stream watershed, the storage function parameters provided better estimates of effective rainfall for regenerating flood hydrographs than any others considered in the study. The $\Phi$-index method, however, resulted in better estimates of effective rainfall for the other two study areas.

W/O/W (water-in-oil-in-water) type multiple emulsion was applied to improve the storage stability of an antagonistic microorganism, Burkholderia gladioli. Encapsulation of microorganism into a W/O/W emulsion was conducted by using a two-step emulsification method. W/O/W emulsion was prepared by the incorporation of B. gladioli into rapeseed oil and the addition of polyglycerin polyriconolate (PGPR) and castor oil polyoxyethylene (COG 25) as the primary and secondary emulsifier, respectively. Microcrystalline cellulose was used as an emulsion stabilizer. To evaluate the usefulness of W/O/W emulsion formulation as a microbial pesticide for controlling the bacterial wilt pathogen (Ralstonia solanacearum), the storage stability and antagonistic activity of emulsion formulation were tested in vitro. The storage stability test revealed that the viability of formulated cells in emulsion was higher than that of unformulated cells in culture broth. At $4^{\circ}C$, the viabilities of formulated cells and unformulated cells at the end of 20 weeks decreased to about 2 and 5 log cycles, respectively. At $37^{\circ}C$, the viability of formulated cells decreased to only 2 log cycles at the end of storage. On the other hand, the viable cells in culture broth were not detected after 13 weeks. In activity test, formulated cells in emulsion were more effective in inhibiting the growth of pathogen than unformulated cells in culture broth. Unformulated cells completely lost their antagonistic activity during storage under similar conditions. The W/O/W multiple emulsion formulation was shown to be useful as the novel liquid formulation for biological control.
Aquifer Thermal Energy Storage (ATES) can be a cost-effective and renewable geothermal energy source, depending on site-specific and thermohydraulic conditions. To design an effective ATES system having influenced by groundwater movement, understanding of thermo hydraulic processes is necessary. The heat transfer phenomena for an aquifer heat storage are simulated using FEFLOW with the scenario of heat pump operation with pumping and waste water reinjection in a two layered confined aquifer model. Temperature distribution of the aquifer model is generated, and hydraulic heads and temperature variations are monitored at the both wells during 365 days. The average groundwater velocities are determined with two hydraulic gradient sets according to boundary conditions, and the effect of groundwater flow are shown at the generated thermal distributions of three different depth slices. The generated temperature contour lines at the hydraulic gradient of 0.00 1 are shaped circular, and the center is moved less than 5m to the groundwater flow direction in 365 days simulation period. However at the hydraulic gradient of 0.01, the contour center of the temperature are moved to the end of boundary at each slice and the largest movement is at bottom slice. By the analysis of thermal interference data between two wells the efficiency of the heat pump system model is validated, and the variation of heads is monitored at injection, pumping and no operation mode.

Storage stability of ginger paste product was investigated from the standpoint of the inhibition of nonenzymatic browning and loss of gingerol contents. For the experimentations, control, 0.04% of N-acetyl-L-cysteine in ginger paste(NAcCys), and combination treatment of NAcCys, 0.92 of water activity and 6.30 of pH in ginger paste (mixed treatment) were stored at 3$0^{\circ}C$ for 40 days and analyzed for browning and gingerol contents. In addition the changes in sugars, organic acids, ascorbic acids, amino acids, and sensory quality were determined. The results revealed that the mixed treatment agent was effective in preventing both nonenzymatic browning and loss of gingerol contents. The inhibition by combination treatment might be resulted from the control of radical formations by sulfhydryl groups of NAcCys and the increase of diffusion resistance in lower water activity. Browning development and total gingerol contents were found to be correlated to some physicochemical characteristics of ginger paste; that is, browning development to amino acid and color value in sensory evaluation, and total gingerol contents to flavor in sensory evaluation.

This study was carried out to measure and analyze the storage condition, distribution route, and packaging method of four selected agricultural products(small tomato, cabbage, peach, and carrot) in the cold chain system. It was shown that dew-forming phenomenon by fruits and vegetables deteriorates the agricultural product quality and physical properties of corrugated fiberboard box during the cold chain system. The compressive strength deterioration in corrugated fiberboard boxes was much greater for single wall(SW) corrugated fiberboard containers than for double wall(DW) in low temperature-high humidity condition. To reduce the deterioration of box and dew-forming phenomenon, water-repellency treatment should be over $R_6$. However, water-resistant treatment of corrugated fiberboard containers would be effective under high relative humidity conditions more than 75% RH. It was suggested that functional corrugated fiberboard box packaging would be an optimum method to reduce the deterioration of agricultural products quality by. It was also achieved controlling the relative humidity and temperature during the storage and physical distribution process.

In this study, it induced to a conclusion below by experiment consideration to regarding an effective supercooling ends method of the flow cooling water in a tube of continuous ice making method and the static cooling water in a tube of continuous ice making method which used magneticfluid in a dynamic type ice storage system. Continuous ice making in a tube of the flow cooling water was shortened about 12 minutes until supercooling ends that case which gave vertical eccentricity rotation magnetic field 120rpm than did not provide magnetic field by experimental result that was tested to supercooling ends effect from shape control of magneticfluid. Continuous ice making method in a tube of the static cooling water compared with and reviewed the case that was not provided with the magnetic field and exposed cooling surface instantaneously by magnetic field. It confirmed that supercooling degree $\Delta$$T_{c}$, $\Delta$$T_{s}$, and $\Delta$$T_{w}$ became lower because of heat transfering increasing by the occurrence of natural convection between after cooling starting progress time 1∼3 minutes if it did not give a magnetic field, and peformed the supercooling ends when natural convection occurred confirmed that refrigerating capacity was better. That relation $\Delta$$T_{c}$, and $t_{e}$/($\Delta$$T_{c}$-$\Delta$$T_{s}$) after convection occurred, was not depended on $T_{b}$ and initial temperature if the depth of water and thickness of magneticfluid were regular and it was possible to verify conjecture of tp from $\Delta$$T_{s}$ and $\Delta$$T_{c}$.lar and it was possible to verify conjecture of tp from $\Delta$$T_{s}$ and $\Delta$$T_{c}$.c}$.>.

The most important thing to consider in cold store design are to save cooling energy consumption and to keep goods freshly. Specially there are many efforts to save energy with cold store in Korea. A building energy simulation program should be used to optimally select a cooling system to match the criteria of cooling rate and storage rate in a given cool crop storage building and HVAC system. The low maintenance costs, high degree of safety and environmental impacts are also favouring the underground solution. There are obviously a lot of possibility for cost-effective storage of cooled or frozen goods or liquids in ground water rock.
Inorder to minimize the daily intake amount of nitrate by chinese cabbage, the favorate vegetable for Korean, the influences of storage conditions at different temperature and light or dark treatments after post-harvest and effects of cooking temperature and infrared rays on changes of nitrate contents in edible parts of chinese cabbage were determined. The nitrate contents on midrib and leaf blade in chinese cabbage during post-harvest were decreased steeply in 2 days and decreased slowly again in 5 days. The temperature treatment to decrease the nitrate contents in midrib and leaf blade of chinese cabbage were effective as the following of $25^{\circ}C$> $15^{\circ}C$ > $-4^{\circ}C$ > $-10^{\circ}C$. The nitrate contents of midrib and leaf blade were decreased in the timecourse of post-harvest. It is more effective to store in $4^{\circ}C$ than in $15^{\circ}C$, and is more effective in transparent vinyl package than in black vinyl package, but the treatment of light is more effective than the treatment of temperature. The nitrate contents of midrib decreased rapidly by 17.9% in the treatment of 5 days at$ 15^{\circ}C$. By treatment of $80^{\circ}C$, $90^{\circ}C$, $100^{\circ}C$ water, the nitrate contents of midrib were increased slightly, but decreased in leaf blade. It reached 68.5%, 50.6%, 45.9% in the leaf blade respectively by treatment of 80%, 90%, 100% water at 1 min. By infrared rays treatment, the nitrate contents of midrib did not change in 3 min but increased rapidly after 6 min, and in the leaf blade it increased continually after 1 min.
