중국 환경문제에 대한 재인식 -경제발전과 환경보호의 딜레마- (A New Understanding on Environmental Problems in China - Dilemma between Economic Development and Environmental Protection -)

  • 개혁개방정책에 의해 시장경제체제로의 신속한 전환을 진행해 온 중국은 현재까지 연평균 9% 이상의 놀라운 경제성장을 이룩하였다. 이와 대조적으로 같은 시기 중국의 환경은 급속한 도시화와 공언화로 인해 대기 및 수질 오염이 대량으로 발생하는 등 심각한 악화의 길을 걸었다. 중국은 현재 임계치에 달한 환경오염과 생태파괴로 인해 도리어 경제발전의 발목을 잡는 상황에 직면해 있으며, 이제 중국의 환경문제는 단순한 오염문제에서 벗어나 사회변동의 도화선이 되어가고 있다. 중국 환경문제의 근원과 배경으로는 우선적으로 개혁개방 이전 환경문제에 대한 중국 당국의 인식결여와 정치 및 이데올로기적 편향에 따른 그릇된 경제정책을 들 수 있다. 또한 개혁개방 이후 경제의 고속성장에 따른 약탈적 자원개발과 이용, 그리고 발전 속도에만 치중하고 지속가능성을 고려하지 않는 '경제우선주의'가 결국 중국 환경문제의 심각성을 더해 준 요인이자 특성이라고 할 수 있다. 이 외에도 중국의 방대한 인구와 빈곤문제는 환경문제의 가속페달로서 문제를 더욱 심각하게 만들고 있으며, 환경문제 해결치 어려움을 더욱 가중시키고 있다. 환경문제의 해결을 위해 중국 전부는 그간 관련 법 제도를 구축하였고, 환경투자를 강화하였으며, 제한된 범위이긴 하나 NGO 및 대중의 참여를 확대하고 있다. 하지만 이러한 중국의 노력은 발전단계의 제약에 따른 환경투자의 부족, 법 집행의 구조적 한계와 지방보호주의, 비정부조직(NGO)의 정치적 독립성의 한계와 대중 참여의 부족 등으로 실제적인 효과를 거두고 있지 못하다. 중국은 심각한 환경문제로 인해 국내외로부터 이중적 압력에 직면해 있다. 한편으로는 환경오염과 생태파괴로 인한 피해가 확산되면서 중국 대중들의 항의와 시위가 확대되고 있으며, 다른 한편으로는 국제사회 특히 주변국가들에게 환경적 재앙을 불러일으키는 주범으로 인식되고 있다. 이러한 국내외적 압력에 직면하여 중국은 에너지 다소비형 업종의 구조개혁과 환경적 법 집행의 강도를 높임으로써 지속가능한 발전을 보장하는 '순환형 경제'를 모색하고 있다. 이러한 점에서 향후 중국의 환경문제를 해결하기 위한 지역협력은 보다 점진적이고 실제적이며 중국 자체의 문제해결능력을 제고하는 방향으로 추진되는 것이 바람직하다.

한국인삼론(韓國人蔘論) (Current Status of Korean Ginseng Research)

  • Recent achievements of scientific research on the pharmacologic activities and the chemical problems of dammalene glycosides, which are considered to be effective principles of Korean ginseng, are reviewed and analyzed in view of structure-activity relationship. 1) S. Shibata and his co-workers detected 12 glycoside spots of dammalene series on the two dimensional T.L.C. of total glycoside fraction from Japanese ginseng, and designated them Ginsenoside Rx(x=a, b, c, g, h, etc.) in the order of increasing Rf-value. The aglycones of those glycosides were characterized to be protopanaxadiol for the Ginsenoside $Rx(x=a,\;b_{1},\;b_{2},\;c,\;d,\;e,\;f)$ and protopanaxatriol for the Ginsenoside $Rx(x=g_{1},\;g_{2},\;g_{3},\;h_{1}\;'h_{2})$. Using Korean ginseng as the material for our study, the author and his coworkers isolated a new dammalene glycoside(Panax Saponin C), which comes under the category of protopanaxadiol glycosides based on the classification of S. Shibata et al., and characterized this saponin to be the glycoside of protopanaxatriol series. Furthermore, Panax Saponin C dissociated into $two\;components(C_{1}\;and\;C_{2}-acetate)$ by acetylation, both of which returned to original Panax Saponin C by deacetylation. Based on this result, more than 13 glycoside components of dammalene series will be expected in the Korean ginseng. 2) The structures of protopanaxadiol and protopanaxatriol, the genuine aglycones of dammalene glycosides, are fully established to be structural analogues by S. Shibata and his co-workers, therefore antagonistic and/or analogical activities will be expected for the pharmacologic activities of these glycoside series of structural analogues. K. Takaki and his co-workers found central nervous system (CNS) stimmulant activity from the glycosides of protopanaxatriol series and CNS-depressant activity from the glycosides of protopanaxadiol series. On the other hand, the author and his co-workers found stimmulating activity on the protein synthesis from both the series of dammalene glycosides with delayed and long-lasting characteristics. This delayed and long-lasting characteristics were also observed in the anti-inflammatory activity of glycosides of protopanaxatriol series on their time course tendency. For the convenience's sake of argument, pluralistic pharmacologic activities of dammalene glycosides, which were observed by many workers at various pharmacologic site, may be classified into two main categories; one is pan-cellular activity and the other is organ specific activity to the certain tissue which is a mass of cells differentiated to a certain direction for their special functions in the body. Based on the data of K. Takaki and those of the authors, following assumption will be probable; Pharmacologic activities of both series of glycosides of protopanaxadiol and protopanaxatriol aglycones may be antagonistic on their tissue-specific activities and analogic on their pan-cellular activities. Therefore, the mixture of these two series of glycosides in an appropriate ratio, as the case of total extract of Korean ginseng, will be probably beneficial to the host by increasing the synthesis of some functional proteins, due to the additive action of pan-cellular activity, and with the disappearance of any significant behavioral symptoms due to the antagonism of tissue specific activity. This fact will probably be the main reason why classical trials of pharmacologists failed in re-discovering the efficacy of Korean ginseng with their behavioral test. 3) The author and his co-workers achieved the synthesis of $C^{14}-labelled\;Panax\;Saponin\;A\;on\;C_{25}-C_{27}\;position\;of\;aglycone$ in the interest of tracer studies in vivo. The method will be applicable to other dammalene glycosides regardless of their chemical structure. 4) The author and his co-workers converted chemically betulafolienetriol, a triterpene component of Betula platyphylla, to the protopanaxadiol, one of genuine aglycone of dammalene glycosides.

  • The purpose of this thesis is to propose a new concept of design of the 21st century, on the basis of the study on the general signification of the structures and the signs of industrial product design, by examining the difference between modern and post-modern design, which is expected to lead the users to different design practice and interpretation of it. The starting point of this study is the different styles and patterns of 'Gestalt' in the post-modern design of the late 20th century from modern design - the factor of determination in industrial product design. That is to say, unlike functional and rational styles of modern product design, the late 20th century is based upon the pluralism characterized by complexity, synthetic and decorativeness. So far, most of the previous studies on design seem to have excluded visual aspects and usability, focused only on effective communication of design phenomena. These partial studies on design, blinded by phenomenal aspects, have resulted in failure to discover a principle of fundamental system. However, design varies according to the times; and the transformation of design is reflected in Design Pragnanz to constitute a new text of design. Therefore, it can be argued that Design Pragnanz serves as an essential factor under influence of the significance of text. In this thesis, therefore, I delve into analysis of the 20th century product design, in the light of Gestalt theory and Design Pragnanz, which have been functioning as the principle of the past design. For this study, I attempted to discover the fundamental elements in modern and post-modern designs, and to examine the formal structure of product design, the users' aesthetic preference and its semantics, from the integrative viewpoint. Also, with reference to history and theory of design my emphasis is more on fundamental visual phenomena than on structural analysis or process of visualization in product design, in order to examine the formal properties of modern and post-modern designs. Firstly, In Chapter 1, 'Issues and Background of the Study', I investigated the Gestalt theory and Design Pragnanz, on the premise of formal distinction between modern and post-modern designs. These theories are founded upon the discussion on visual perception of Gestalt in Germany in 1910's, in pursuit of the principle of perception centered around visual perception of human beings. In Chapter 2, I dealt with functionalism of modern design, as an advance preparation for the further study on the product design of the late 20th century. First of all, in Chapter 2-1, I examined the tendency of modern design focused on functionalism, which can be exemplified by the famous statement 'Form follows function'. Excluding all unessential elements in design - for example, decoration, this tendency has attained the position of the international style based on the spirit of Bauhause - universality and regularity - in search of geometric order, standardization and rationalization. In Chapter 2-2, I investigated the anthropological viewpoint that modern design started representing culture in a symbolic way including overall aspects of the society - politics, economics and ethics, and its criticism on functionalist design that aesthetic value is missing in exchange of excessive simplicity in style. Moreover, I examined the pluralist phenomena in post-modern design such as kitsch, eclecticism, reactionism, hi-tech and digital design, breaking away from functionalist purism of modern design. In Chapter 3, I analyzed Gestalt Pragnanz in design in a practical way, against the background of design trends. To begin with, I selected mass product design among those for the 20th century products as a target of analysis, highlighting representative styles in each category of the products. For this analysis, I adopted the theory of J. M Lehnhardt, who gradated in percentage the aesthetic and semantic levels of Pragnantz in design expression, and that of J. K. Grutter, who expressed it in a formula of M = O : C. I also employed eight units of dichotomies, according to the G. D. Birkhoff's aesthetic criteria, for the purpose of scientific classification of the degree of order and complexity in design; and I analyzed phenomenal aspects of design form represented in each unit. For Chapter 4, I executed a questionnaire about semiological phenomena of Design Pragnanz with 28 units of antonymous adjectives, based upon the research in the previous chapter. Then, I analyzed the process of signification of Design Pragnanz, founded on this research. Furthermore, the interpretation of the analysis served as an explanation to preference, through systematic analysis of Gestalt and Design Pragnanz in product design of the late 20th century. In Chapter 5, I determined the position of Design Pragnanz by integrating the analyses of Gestalt and Pragnanz in modern and post-modern designs In this process, 1 revealed the difference of each Design Pragnanz in formal respect, in order to suggest a vision of the future as a result, which will provide systemic and structural stimulation to current design.

아까시나무림에서 인공 숲틈 처리에 대한 졸참나무 식재목 및 하층식생의 초기 반응 (Early Responses of Planted Quercus serrata Seedlings and Understory Vegetation to Artificial Gap Treatments in Black Locust Plantation)

  • 아까시나무 임분은 우리나라 저지대에 주로 조성되어 있는 도입종 조림지로서, 인위적 또는 자연적 교란, 그리고 입지조건에 의해 온전한 숲의 종조성을 나타내지 못하고 있으며, 천이가 느리거나 정체되어 있다. 또한 그것의 개체들이 인접 자연림으로 침투하고 있는 문제점이 있다. 따라서, 아까시나무 임분에서의 천이를 촉진시켜 자연 식생을 회복시킬 필요가 있다. 복원 실험은 경상북도 포항시 용흥동의 아까시나무 임분에서 작은 숲틈(${\sim}57m^2$)을 조성하여 실시하였고, $5 m{\times}5m$ 방형구 내에서, 벌채 및 하층 식생 제거(CU), 벌채(C), 환상박피 및 하층 식생 제거(GU), 환상박피 (G) 및 대조구(Control)의 5개 실험구를 3반복으로 설치하였다. 각 처리구 별 수관 열림도(%), 빛(total estimated transmitted light, $mol{\cdot}m^{-1}{\cdot}day^{-1}$), 목표 종(졸참나무)의 생장(직경, 높이 및 엽면적)을 측정하였다. 하층식생의 반응(종조성 및 종다양성)은 각 처리구에 영구 소방형구를 설치하여 측정하였고, 피도변화, Multiresponse Permutation Procedures (MRPP) 및 Detrended Correspondence Analysis(DCA)를 통하여 분석하였다. 숲틈 조성 후, 광환경은 처리구 별로 뚜렷한 차이를 나타내지 않았고, 수관 열림도는 CU, C, GU, G, Control의 순으로 높았다. 졸참나무 유묘의 생존은 수고 및 엽면적 생장과 유의한 상관을 나타내었다. 목표 종의 생장은 대조구와 비교하여 처리 후 증가하였다. 하층식생의 종조성 및 종다양성은 유의한 변화를 나타내지 않았지만, 후자의 경우 약간 감소하였고, 각 소방형구의 총 피도는 약간 증가하였다. 아까시나무림에 대한 생태적 복원의 한 방법으로서 작은 규모의 숲틈을 조성한 결과, 급격한 환경 변화를 발생시키지 않았고, 수고 생장을 촉진할 수 있는 가능성을 나타내었다. 복원 교란에 대한 하층식생의 반응은 연구지역의 특성을 반영하는 것으로 생각된다. 본 연구의 결과는 장기적인 관찰이 필요하며, 최소한의 교란을 통한 삼림 관리 및 복원 기법으로 발전할 수 있는 가능성을 보였다.

부식 손상된 가시설 강재의 축압축 좌굴강도 추정에 관한 실험적 연구 (An Experimental Study on Evaluation of Axially Compressive Buckling Strength of Corroded Temporary Steel)

  • 강구조물은 주로 도장에 의해 방식처리 되고 있지만, 장기간 사용함에 따라 강재표면에 부식손상이 발생하게 된다. 이러한 부식손상은 단면감소와 이로 인한 좌굴내하력을 저하시킬 우려가 있다. 현재 다양한 등단면형상과 지지조건에 대한 좌굴강도 추정식 및 설계식이 제안되어 있으나, 부식손상으로 인한 불규칙한 변단면 강부재의 축압축 좌굴강도 평가법은 아직 확립되어 있지 않다. 본 연구에서는 부식 손상된 가시설 강부재에서 절취한 강재시편의 축압축 좌굴실험을 실시하여, 부식강재의 좌굴강도 평가에 대한 기초적 연구를 수행하였다. 본 실험에서는 먼저 가시설 주형보의 웨브로부터 시편 지지길이를 200, 300, 400, 500, 600mm로 달리한 5종류 시편을 각각 2개씩 총 10개의 강재시편을 절취하고, 화학적 방법에 의해 녹을 제거하였다. 그리고 3차원 광학 스캐너를 이용하여 $1{\times}1mm$ 간격으로 표면형상을 측정하여, 각 시편의 잔존두께를 산출하였다. 그리고 10개의 부식 손상된 시편과 부식 손상되지 않은 무부식 시편 12개를 양단 완전고정지지 조건하에서 축압축 좌굴실험을 실시하여, 부식두께감소량 및 시편의 표면형상과 축압축 좌굴강도와의 상관관계를 분석하였다. 그 결과, 부식 손상정도에 상관없는 무부식 등단면 강재와 동일하게 좌굴강도를 평가할 수 있는 불규칙 변단면 부식강재의 폭방향평균 최소두께 또는 평균잔존두께와 표준편차의 차로 계산되는 유효두께를 적용하여 축압축 좌굴강도을 추정할 수 있음을 제안하였다. 또한 이러한 결과를 실무에도 적용할 수 있도록 실용적인 부식강재의 잔존두께 측정간격도 제시하였다.

온라인 과학 기사 텍스트 마이닝을 통해 분석한 에너지 용어 사용의 맥락 (Analyzing Different Contexts for Energy Terms through Text Mining of Online Science News Articles)

  • 본 연구에서는 일상생활에서 에너지 용어가 사용되는 맥락을 알아보기 위하여 온라인 과학 기사를 수집하여 언어 네트워크, 토픽 모델링 분석 기법을 활용해 에너지 관련 기사에 사용된 용어의 빈도, 용어 네트워크, 기사의 주제를 분석하였다. 분석에 사용된 자료는 2018.3.1.부터 1년간의 온라인 과학 분야의 기사 중 에너지를 검색어로 하여 10개의 국내 중앙지에서 검색 및 선정된 2,171편이다. 이 기사들을 자연어 처리하여 51,224개의 문장과 507,901개의 단어로 데이터를 구성하였다. R 프로그램을 활용하여 용어 빈도수 분석 및 언어 네트워크 분석을 실시하였고, 에너지 용어 사용의 맥락 탐색을 위해 구조적 토픽 모델링 분석을 적용해 기사의 주제를 도출하였다. 기사에 사용된 용어 중 빈도수가 유난히 높은 용어는 기술, 연구, 개발로 새로운 소식을 알리는 기사의 특성을 반영한 것으로 나타났다. 한편, 기사 2편당 한 번 이상의 빈도로 사용되는 용어에는 산업 관련 용어(산업, 제품, 시스템, 생산, 시장)와 '전기', '환경'과 같이 에너지 관련 용어로 충분히 기대되는 용어들이 있었다. 한편, 에너지 관련 과학 수업에서 자주 사용되는 '태양', '열', '온도', '발전'도 빈도수 상위에 속하는 용어로 드러났다. 용어 네트워크 분석에서는 산업 및 기술과 관련된 용어와 기초과학 및 연구 관련 용어들이 약한 강도이지만 서로 군집을 이루는 것을 확인하였다. 한편, 에너지와 쌍을 이루는 용어의 분석에서는 '에너지 효율'을 비롯해 '에너지 절감', '에너지 소비' 등과 같이 에너지의 사용에 관한 용어들이 다수를 이루고 그 사용 빈도가 가장 높았다. 에너지 용어가 사용되는 맥락은 16개의 주제를 분류한 4가지 영역으로 '첨단산업', '산업', '기초과학', '환경 및 건강'으로 나타났다. 에너지 사용 관련 용어가 상당히 많이 사용된다는 결과는 에너지 수업의 시작점으로 에너지 저급화 개념의 도입이 효과적일 수 있음을 시사한다. 또한, 첨단산업이나 환경 및 건강의 맥락을 에너지 학습에 도입할 필요성도 보여준다. 본 연구에서 드러난 16개 주제에서 보이는 다양한 에너지 용어가 사용되는 맥락을 재구성해 에너지 관련 수업에 활용한다면 학생들이 학교에서의 에너지 학습과 일상적 상황을 통합적으로 인식하는 데 도움이 될 것이다.

  • The wall shear stress in the vicinity of end-to end anastomoses under steady flow conditions was measured using a flush-mounted hot-film anemometer(FMHFA) probe. The experimental measurements were in good agreement with numerical results except in flow with low Reynolds numbers. The wall shear stress increased proximal to the anastomosis in flow from the Penrose tubing (simulating an artery) to the PTFE: graft. In flow from the PTFE graft to the Penrose tubing, low wall shear stress was observed distal to the anastomosis. Abnormal distributions of wall shear stress in the vicinity of the anastomosis, resulting from the compliance mismatch between the graft and the host artery, might be an important factor of ANFH formation and the graft failure. The present study suggests a correlation between regions of the low wall shear stress and the development of anastomotic neointimal fibrous hyperplasia(ANPH) in end-to-end anastomoses. 30523 T00401030523 ^x Air pressure decay(APD) rate and ultrafiltration rate(UFR) tests were performed on new and saline rinsed dialyzers as well as those roused in patients several times. C-DAK 4000 (Cordis Dow) and CF IS-11 (Baxter Travenol) reused dialyzers obtained from the dialysis clinic were used in the present study. The new dialyzers exhibited a relatively flat APD, whereas saline rinsed and reused dialyzers showed considerable amount of decay. C-DAH dialyzers had a larger APD(11.70$\pm$1.32mmHg/min)compared to CF dialyzers(4.32$\pm$0.55mmHg/min)(p<0.05). However, there was no observable difference in the UFR between the two dialyzers. Neither APD nor UFR showed any significant increase with an increasing number of reuses for up to more than 20reuses. A substantial number of failures observed in APD(larger than 20mmHe/min)on the reused dialyzers(2 out of 40 CP and S out 26 C-DAK) were attributed to the Possible damage on the fibers. The CF 15-11 HFDs which failed APD test did not show changes in the UFR compared to normal dialyzers indicating that APD is a more sensitive test than UFR test to evaluate the integrity of the fibers. 30527 T00401030527 ^x For quantitative measurement of reflected light from a clinical diagnostic strip, a prototype old reflectance photometer was designed. The strip loader and cassette were made to obtain more accurate reflectance parameters. The strip was illuminated at 45˚c through optical fiber and the intensity of reflected light was determined at rectanguLat angle using a photodiode. The kubelka-munk coefficient and reflection optical density were determined ar four different wavelengths(500, 550, 570 and 610nm) for blood glucose strip. For higher concentration than 300mg/41 about glucose, a saturation state of abforbance was observed at 500, 550 and 570nm. The correlation between glucose concentration and parameters was the best at 610nm. 30535 T00401030535 ^x Radiation-induced fibrosarcoma tumors were grown on the flanks of C3H mice. The mice were divided into two groups. One group was injected with Photofrin II, intravenously (2.5mg/kg body weight). The other group received no Photofrin II. Mice from both groups were irradialed for approximately 15 minutes at 100, 300, or 500 mW/cm2 with the argon (488nm/514.5 nm), dye(628nm) and gold vapor (pulsed 628 nm) laser light. A photosensitizer behaved as an added absorber. Under our experimental conditions, the presence of Photolfrin II increased surface temperature by at least 40% and the temperature rise due to 300 mW/cm2 irradiation exceeded values for hyperthermia. Light and temperature distributions with depth were estimated by a computer model. The model demonstrated the influence of wavelength on the thermal process and proved to be a valuable tool to investigate internal temperature rise. 30536 T00401030536 ^x We investigated the structural geometry of thirty-eight Korean femurs. The purpose of this study is to identify major geometrical differences between Korean femurs 3nd others that we believe belong to Caucasians so that we would be able to get insights into the femoral component design that fits Asians including Koreans. We utilized computerized tomography (CT) images of femurs extracted from cadavers. The CT images were transformed into bitmap data by using a film scanner, and then analyzed by using a commercially available software called Image v.1.0 and a Macintosh IIci computer.The resulting data were compared with already published data. The major results show that the geometry of the Korean femurs is significantly different from that of Caucasians: (1) the anteversion angle and the canal flare index are greater by the amount of approximately 8˚ and 0.5, respectively, (2) the shape of the isthmus cross section is more round, and (3) the distance between the teaser trochanter and the proximal border of the isthmus is shelter by about 15 mm. The results suggested that the femoral component suitable for Asians should be different from the currently-used components designed and manufactured mostly by European or American companies. 30537 T00401030537 ^x It is well known that nonlinear propagation characteristics of the wave in the tissue may give very useful information for the medical diagnoisis. In this paper, a new method to detect nonlinear propagation characteristics of the internal vibration in the tissue for the low frequency mechanical vibration by using bispectral analysis is proposed. In the method, low frequency vibration of f0( = 100Hz) is applied on the surface of the object, and the waveform of the internal vibration x (t) is measured from Doppler frequency modulation of silmultaneously transmitted probing ultrasonic waves. Then, the bispectra of the signal x (t) at the frequencies (f0, f0) and (f0, 2f0) are calculated to estimate the nonlinear propagation characteristics as their magnitude ratio, w here since bispectrum is free from the gaussian additive noise we can get the value with high S/N. Basic experimental system is constructed by using 3.0 MHz probing ultrasonic waves and the several experiments are carried out for some phantoms.   • The wall shear stress in the vicinity of end-to end anastomoses under steady flow conditions was measured using a flush-mounted hot-film anemometer(FMHFA) probe. The experimental measurements were in good agreement with numerical results except in flow with low Reynolds numbers. The wall shear stress increased proximal to the anastomosis in flow from the Penrose tubing (simulating an artery) to the PTFE: graft. In flow from the PTFE graft to the Penrose tubing, low wall shear stress was observed distal to the anastomosis. Abnormal distributions of wall shear stress in the vicinity of the anastomosis, resulting from the compliance mismatch between the graft and the host artery, might be an important factor of ANFH formation and the graft failure. The present study suggests a correlation between regions of the low wall shear stress and the development of anastomotic neointimal fibrous hyperplasia(ANPH) in end-to-end anastomoses. 30523 T00401030523 ^x Air pressure decay(APD) rate and ultrafiltration rate(UFR) tests were performed on new and saline rinsed dialyzers as well as those roused in patients several times. C-DAK 4000 (Cordis Dow) and CF IS-11 (Baxter Travenol) reused dialyzers obtained from the dialysis clinic were used in the present study. The new dialyzers exhibited a relatively flat APD, whereas saline rinsed and reused dialyzers showed considerable amount of decay. C-DAH dialyzers had a larger APD(11.70${\pm}$1.32mmHg/min)compared to CF dialyzers(4.32${\pm}$0.55mmHg/min)(p<0.05). However, there was no observable difference in the UFR between the two dialyzers. Neither APD nor UFR showed any significant increase with an increasing number of reuses for up to more than 20reuses. A substantial number of failures observed in APD(larger than 20mmHe/min)on the reused dialyzers(2 out of 40 CP and S out 26 C-DAK) were attributed to the Possible damage on the fibers. We utilized computerized tomography (CT) images of femurs extracted from cadavers. The CT images were transformed into bitmap data by using a film scanner, and then analyzed by using a commercially available software called Image v.1.0 and a Macintosh IIci computer.The resulting data were compared with already published data. The major results show that the geometry of the Korean femurs is significantly different from that of Caucasians: (1) the anteversion angle and the canal flare index are greater by the amount of approximately 8˚ and 0.5, respectively, (2) the shape of the isthmus cross section is more round, and (3) the distance between the teaser trochanter and the proximal border of the isthmus is shelter by about 15 mm. Because the point of maximun temperature of laser-irradiated gelatin exists below the surface due to surface cooling, evaporation at the boiling temperature is made explosively from below the surface. The important parameters of this process are the conduction loss to laser power absorption (defined as the conduction-to-laser power parameter, Nk), the convection heat transfer at the surface to conduction loss (defined as Bi), dimensionless extinction coefficient (defined as Br.), and dimensionless irradiation time (defined as Fo). Dependence of Fo on Nk and Bi has been observed by experiment, and the results have been compared with the numerical results obtained by solving a 2-dimensional conduction equation. Fo and explosion depth (from the surface to the point of maximun temperature) are increased when Nk and Bi are increased.To find out the minimum laser power for explosive evaporative removal process, steady state analysis has been also made. Optimal stimulus parameters, which can minimize muscle fatigue and can achieve effective muscle contraction were determined in slow and fast muscles in Sprague-Dawley rats. Stimulus patterns of our stimulator were designed to simulate electromyographic activity monitored during locomotion of normal subjects. Muscle types of the lower extremity were classified according to their mechanical property of contraction, which are slow muscle (msoleus m.) and fast muscle (medial gastrocneminus m., rectus femoris m., vastus lateralis m.). Optimal parameters of electrical stimulation for slow muscles were 20 Hz, 0.2 ms square pulse. For fast muscle, 40 Hz, 0.3 ms square pulse was optimal to produce repeated contraction. Higher stimulus intensity was required when synergistic muscles were stimulated simultaneously than when they were stimulated individually. Electrical stimulation for each muscle was designed to generate bipedal locomotion, so that individual muscles alternate contraction and relaxation to simulate stance and swing phases. Portable electrical stimulator with 16 channels built in microprocessor was constructed and applied to paraplegic patients due to lumbar cord injury. 가족계획과 모자보건 통합을 위한 조산원의 투입효과 분석 -서산지역의 개입연구 평가보고- (An Intervention Study on Integration of Family Planning and Maternal/Infant Care Services in Rural Korea)

  • This project was a service-cum-research effort with a quasi-experimental study design to examine the health benefits of an integrated Family Planning (FP)/Maternal & Child health (MCH) Service approach that provides crucial factors missing in the present on-going programs. The specific objectives were: 1) To test the effectiveness of trained nurse/midwives (MW) assigned as change agents in the Health Sub-Center (HSC) to bring about the changes in the eight FP/MCH indicators, namely; (i)FP/MCH contacts between field workers and their clients (ii) the use of effective FP methods, (iii) the inter-birth interval and/or open interval, (iv) prenatal care by medically qualified personnel, (v) medically supervised deliveries, (vi) the rate of induced abortion, (vii) maternal and infant morbidity, and (viii) preinatal & infant mortality. 2) To measure the integrative linkage (contacts) between MW & HSC workers and between HSC and clients. 3) To examine the organizational or administrative factors influencing integrative linkage between health workers. Study design; The above objectives called for quasi-experimental design setting up a study and control area with and without a midwife. An active intervention program (FP/MCH minimum 'package' program) was conducted for a 2 year period from June 1982-July 1984 in Seosan County and 'before and after' surveys were conducted to measure the change. Service input; This study was undertaken by the Soonchunhyang University in collaboration with WHO. After a baseline survery in 1981, trained nurses/midwives were introduced into two health sub-centers in a rural setting (Seosan county) for a 2 year period from 1982 to 1984. A major service input was the establishment of midwifery services in the existing health delivery system with emphasis on nurse/midwife's role as the link between health workers (nurse aids) and village health workers, and the referral of risk patients to the private physician (OBGY specialist). An evaluation survey was made in August 1984 to assess the effectiveness of this alternative integrated approach in the study areas in comparison with the control area which had normal government services. Method of evaluation; a. In this study, the primary objective was first to examine to what extent the FP/MCH package program brought about changes in the pre-determined eight indicators (outcome and impact measures) and the following relationship was first analyzed; b. Nevertheless, this project did not automatically accept the assumption that if two or more activities were integrated, the results would automatically be better than a non-integrated or categorical program. There is a need to assess the 'integration process' itself within the package program. The process of integration was measured in terms of interactive linkages, or the quantity & quality of contacts between workers & clients and among workers. Intergrative linkages were hypothesized to be influenced by organizational factors at the HSC clinic level including HSC goals, sltrurture, authority, leadership style, resources, and personal characteristics of HSC staff. The extent or degree of integration, as measured by the intensity of integrative linkages, was in turn presumed to influence programme performance. Thus as indicated diagrammatically below, organizational factors constituted the independent variables, integration as the intervening variable and programme performance with respect to family planning and health services as the dependent variable: Concerning organizational factors, however, due to the limited number of HSCs (2 in the study area and 3 in the control area), they were studied by participatory observation of an anthropologist who was independent of the project. In this observation, we examined whether the assumed integration process actually occurred or not. If not, what were the constraints in producing an effective integration process. Summary of Findings; A) Program effects and impact 1. Effects on FP use: During this 2 year action period, FP acceptance increased from 58% in 1981 to 78% in 1984 in both the study and control areas. This increase in both areas was mainly due to the new family planning campaign driven by the Government for the same study period. Therefore, there was no increment of FP acceptance rate due to additional input of MW to the on-going FP program. But in the study area, quality aspects of FP were somewhat improved, having a better continuation rate of IUDs & pills and more use of effective Contraceptive methods in comparison with the control area. 2. Effects of use of MCH services: Between the study and control areas, however, there was a significant difference in maternal and child health care. For example, the coverage of prenatal care was increased from 53% for 1981 birth cohort to 75% for 1984 birth cohort in the study area. In the control area, the same increased from 41% (1981) to 65% (1984). It is noteworthy that almost two thirds of the recent birth cohort received prenatal care even in the control area, indicating that there is a growing demand of MCH care as the size of family norm becomes smaller 3. There has been a substantive increase in delivery care by medical professions in the study area, with an annual increase rate of 10% due to midwives input in the study areas. The project had about two times greater effect on postnatal care (68% vs. 33%) at delivery care(45.2% vs. 26.1%). 4. The study area had better reproductive efficiency (wanted pregancies with FP practice & healthy live births survived by one year old) than the control area, especially among women under 30 (14.1% vs. 9.6%). The proportion of women who preferred the 1st trimester for their first prenatal care rose significantly in the study area as compared to the control area (24% vs 13%). B) Effects on Interactive Linkage 1. This project made a contribution in making several useful steps in the direction of service integration, namely; i) The health workers have become familiar with procedures on how to work together with each other (especially with a midwife) in carrying out their work in FP/MCH and, ii) The health workers have gotten a feeling of the usefulness of family health records (statistical integration) in identifying targets in their own work and their usefulness in caring for family health. 2. On the other hand, because of a lack of required organizational factors, complete linkage was not obtained as the project intended. i) In regards to the government health worker's activities in terms of home visiting there was not much difference between the study & control areas though the MW did more home visiting than Government health workers. ii) In assessing the service performance of MW & health workers, the midwives balanced their workload between 40% FP, 40% MCH & 20% other activities (mainly immunization). However, $85{\sim}90%$ of the services provided by the health workers were other than FP/MCH, mainly for immunizations such as the encephalitis campaign. In the control area, a similar pattern was observed. Over 75% of their service was other than FP/MCH. Therefore, the pattern shows the health workers are a long way from becoming multipurpose workers even though the government is pushing in this direction. 3. Villagers were much more likely to visit the health sub-center clinic in the study area than in the control area (58% vs.31%) and for more combined care (45% vs.23%). C) Organization factors (admistrative integrative issues) 1. When MW (new workers with higher qualification) were introduced to HSC, it was noted that there were conflicts between the existing HSC workers (Nurse aids with less qualification than MW) and the MW for the beginning period of the project. The cause of the conflict was studied by an anthropologist and it was pointed out that these functional integration problems stemmed from the structural inadequacies of the health subcenter organization as indicated below; i) There is still no general consensus about the objectives and goals of the project between the project staff and the existing health workers. ii) There is no formal linkage between the responsibility of each member's job in the health sub-center. iii) There is still little chance for midwives to play a catalytic role or to establish communicative networks between workers in order to link various knowledge and skills to provide better FP/MCH services in the health sub-center. 2. Based on the above findings the project recommended to the County Chief (who has power to control the administrative staff and the technical staff in his county) the following ; i) In order to solve the conflicts between the individual roles and functions in performing health care activities, there must be goals agreed upon by both. ii) The health sub·center must function as an autonomous organization to undertake the integration health project. In order to do that, it is necessary to support administrative considerations, and to establish a communication system for supervision and to control of the health sub-centers. iii) The administrative organization, tentatively, must be organized to bind the health worker's midwive's and director's jobs by an organic relationship in order to achieve the integrative system under the leadership of health sub-center director. After submitting this observation report, there has been better understanding from frequent meetings & communication between HW/MW in FP/MCH work as the program developed. Lessons learned from the Seosan Project (on issues of FP/MCH integration in Korea); 1) A majority or about 80% of the couples are now practicing FP. As indicated by the study, there is a growing demand from clients for the health system to provide more MCH services than FP in order to maintain the achieved small size of family through FP practice. It is fortunate to see that the government is now formulating a MCH policy for the year 2,000 and revising MCH laws and regulations to emphasize more MCH care for achieving a small size family through family planning practice. 2) Goal consensus in FP/MCH shouBd be made among the health workers It administrators, especially to emphasize the need of care of 'wanted' child. But there is a long way to go to realize the 'real' integration of FP into MCH in Korea, unless there is a structural integration FP/MCH because a categorical FP is still first priority to reduce the rate of population growth for economic reasons but not yet for health/welfare reasons in practice. 3) There should be more financial allocation: (i) a midwife should be made available to help to promote the MCH program and coordinate services, (in) there should be a health sub·center director who can provide leadership training for managing the integrated program. There is a need for 'organizational support', if the decision of integration is made to obtain benefit from both FP & MCH. In other words, costs should be paid equally to both FP/MCH. The integration slogan itself, without the commitment of paying such costs, is powerless to advocate it. 4) Need of management training for middle level health personnel is more acute as the Government has already constructed 90 MCH centers attached to the County Health Center but without adequate manpower, facilities, and guidelines for integrating the work of both FP and MCH. 5) The local government still considers these MCH centers only as delivery centers to take care only of those visiting maternity cases. The MCH center should be a center for the managment of all pregnancies occurring in the community and the promotion of FP with a systematic and effective linkage of resources available in the county such as i.e. Village Health Worker, Community Health Practitioner, Health Sub-center Physicians & Health workers, Doctors and Midwives in MCH center, OBGY Specialists in clinics & hospitals as practiced by the Seosan project at primary health care level.

  • 본 연구는 제조업 중에서도 지역성장 및 연관산업에 대한 파급효과가 가장 큰 부문인 자동차 산업을 대상으로 새로운 조립공장 입지가 지역경제의 성장 및 발전에 미치는 영향을 경계지리학적 관점에서 논의했다. 우리 나라의 대표적 신산업지구로 발전하고 있는 광양만권의 율촌 산업단지를 사례로, 한국 최대의 자동차 조림기업인 현대자동차의 새로운 조립공장 입지가 광주 전남의 자동차산업 전반에 어떠한 영향을 미칠 것인지, 그리고 보다 미시적 수준에서 광양만권에 어떠한 파급효과를 초래할 것인지 탐색해보고자 했다. 노동집약적 특성과 자본 및 기술집약적 특성을 동시에 지니는 자동차 조립 및 부품생산 부문을 대상으로 첫째, 조립부문-부품생산부문의 공간적 비공간적 연계 특성을 규명하고 둘께, 광주 전남지역 자동차산업의 현 주소 및 이에 대한 신설 조립공장의 파급효과를 분석하며 셋째, 신설 조립공장 입지에 따른 광양만권 역내의 부품산업 발전 가능성을 전망함으로써 지역개발의 파급효과를 극대화할 수 있는 방안을 모색해보고자 하는 것이 본 연구의 목적이다.
