In order to characterize hydraulic property dependant on join roughness in rock mass, this study computed permeability coefficients on each range of joint roughness coefficient (JRC) suggested by Barton(1976). For a quantitative analysis of roughness components spectral analysis using the fast fourier transform was performed to select effective frequencies on each PC range. The results of spectral analyses show that low ranges of the JRC are mainly composed of low frequency domain, while high ranges of the JRC have dominant components at high frequency domain. The inverse Fourier transform made it possible to generate joint models of each JRC range using the effective frequencies of roughness spectrum. The homogenization analysis was applied to calculate permeability coefficient at homogeneous microscale, and then, computes a homogenized permeability coefficient (C-permeability coefficient) at macro scale. Therefore, it is possible to analyze accurate characteristics of permeability reflected with local effect of facture geometry. According to the calculation results, permeability coefficients were distributed between $10^{-3}m/sec\;and\;10^{-4}/sec$. In cases of sheared joint models permeability coefficients were plotted between $10^{-4}m/sec\;and\;10^{-5}/sec$, showing irregular distribution of permeability coefficients on each IRC range. The differences of permeability coefficients for the same aperture models or for the sheared joint models indicate that changes of roughness pattern influence on permeability coefficients. Therefore, the effect of joint roughness should be considered to characterize hydraulic properties in rock joints.
Recently, the construction of Concrete Faced Rockfill Dam (CFRD) is increasing because rock material resources are plenty in Korea. Bedding zone in the CFRD is necessary enough bearing capacity to support the concrete face slab uniformly and enough impermeability to prevent the loss of fine soils in case of leakage from the concrete slab face. Therefore, cut-off the water leakage in bedding zone securely is the key factor influencing the safety of CFRD. Tested materials satisfied with the specification of particle size distribution at the Bedding Zone area are chosen for conducting permeability tests, which are done to evaluate the property of cut off the materials. Based on the test results, the effects of cut off the materials are investigated by considering the coefficient of permeability, the soil particle distribution, and the dry unit weight. Especially, the relationships between coefficient of permeability with effective size(D10), dry unit weight, and weight passing percent the No.4 sieve are suggested, and also the variation of coefficient of permeability with time are proposed.

The purpose of this study is to see the remediability and pilot system operating condition on diesel contaminated areas. Air permeability(k) and trend of gas phase ($O_2/CO_2/VOCs$) concentration to determine the remediation rate of the contaminated sites are very important. So we tested air permeability and trend of gas phase concentration. Throughout soil vapor extraction(SVE) and bioventing hybrid pilot test on different conditions, the range of air permeability(k) was 1985~1194 darcy. The tests result in soil vapor extraction and bioventing hybrid system was appropriate on this test sites, and the suitable injection air flow rate was $3.5m^3/hr$.
Soil vapor extraction (SVE) is an effective and cost efficient method of removing volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and petroleum hydrocarbons from unsaturated soils. However, soil vapor extraction becomes ineffective in soils with low gas permeability, for example soils with air permeabilities less than 1 Darcy. Incorporating PVDs in an SVE system can extend the effectiveness of SVE to lower permeability soils by shortening the air flow-paths and ultimately expediting contaminant removal. The objective of the research described herein was to effectively incorporate PVDs into a SVE remediation system. The test results show that the gas permeability was evaluated for four different equivalent diameters, increasing the equivalent diameter results in a decrease in the calculated gas permeability. It was found that the porosity for the dry condition was greater than that of the wet condition and will allow flow rate for the same vacuum flow, offering a low resistance to the air flow.
Albuterol, a selective ${\beta}_2$-adrenergic receptor stimulant, has been introduced as a potent bronchodilator for patients with bronchial asthma, chronic obstructive bronchial disease, chronic bronchitis and pulmonary emphysema. The percutaneous permeation of albuterol sulfate was investigated in hairless mouse skin in vitro with and without pretreatment with enhancers. The enhancing effects of ethanol and various penetration enhancers such as terpenes, non-ionic surfactants, pyrrolidones, and fatty acids on the permeation of albuterol sulfate were evaluated using Franz diffusion cells. Among terpenes studied, 1,8-cineole was the most effective enhancer, which increased the permeability of albuterol sulfate approximately 33-fold compared with the control without enhancer pretrement, followed by d-limonene with enhancement ratio of 21.79. 2-Pyrrolidone-5-carboxylic acid increased the permeability of albuterol sulfate approximately 5.5-fold compared with the control. Other pyrrolidones tested showed only slight permeability enhancing effect with enhancement ratio less than 2.8. Nonionic surfactants showed moderate enhancing effects. Lauric acid increased the permeability of albuterol sulfate approximately 30-fold with decreasing the lag time from 2.85 to 0.64 hr. Oleic acid and linoleic acid showed enhancement ratio of 24.55 and 22.91, respectively. These findings would allow a more rational approach for designing formulations for the transdermal delivery of albuterol sulfate and similar drugs.
Purpose : This study was conducted to assess how effective the permeability ratio and relative cerebral blood volume ratio are to tumor through perfusion MRI by measuring and reflecting the grade assessment and differential diagnosis and the permeability and relative cerebral blood volume of contrast media plunged from blood vessel into organ due to breakdown of blood-brain barrier in cerebral. Subject and Method : Subject of study was 29 patients whose diagnosis were confirmed by biopsy after surgery and 550 (11 slice$\times$50 image) perfusion MRI were used to make image of relative cerebral blood volume with the program furnished on instrument. The other method was to transmit to private computer and the image analysis was made additionally by making image of relative cerebral blood volume-reformulated singular value decomposition, rCBV-rSVD and permeability using IDL.6.2. In addition, Kruskal-wallis test tonggyein non numerical average by a comparative analysis of brain tumors Results : The rCBV ratio (Functool PF; GE Medical Systems and IDL 6.2 program by analysis) and permeability ratio of tumors were as follows; high grade glioma(n=4), (14.75, 19.25) 13.13. low grade astrocytoma(n=5) (14.80, 15.90) 11.60, glioblastoma(n=5) (10.90, 18.60), 22.00, metastasis(n=6) (11.00, 15.08). 22.33. meningioma(n=6) (18.58, 7.67), 5.58. oliogodendroglioma(n=3) (23.33, 16.33, 15.67. Conclusion : It was not easy to classify the grade with the relative cerebral blood volume ratio measured by using the relative cerebral blood image by type of tumors, however, permeability ratio measured by permeability image revealed that the higher the grade of tumor, the higher the measured permeability ratio, showing the assessment of tumor grade is more effective to differential diagnosis.

Woven wire wick is very effective structure because of its easiness to insert inside of pipe for a miniature heat pipe. The present study was conducted to investigate the effect of the effective flow passage with respect to wire helix angle. Also effective thermal conductivity were examined by defining mean porosity considering effective liquid flow passages. Effective heat transfer area is varied with respect to wire helix angle, and in the range of $\thet=60~65^{\circ}C$, heat transfer area is decreased about 15~20%. Permeability of woven wire wick shows similar value of 200 mesh screen wick. And comparison of experimental results on effective thermal conductivity shows a fairly good agreement with the analytical results.
In the fabrication process of Fe-based amorphous alloy powder cores by pulverization of the melt-spun ribbons and cold compaction, the effects of powder preparation method on the magnetic & electric properties, powder shapes and microstructure of cores have been investigated. The powder cores made by using rotor mill showed low effective permeability as compared to the cores prepared by ball milling. However the frequency dependence and quality factor properties were superior in the case of rotor-milling. Further the powders prepared by rotor mill had homogeneous and round shapes through strong shearing in the sieve ring, while the ball milled powders were inhomogeneous and relatively small. The lower permeability of the powder cores fabricated with rotor mill was considered to be due to the high internal stress occurred by very intensive shearing. Moreover the powder cores produced by rotor-milling showed lower core loss and good frequency dependence of effective permeability possibly due to the higher electrical insulation between magnetic particles. The dc bias property of the powder cores made by rotor-milling was better than the one by ball-milling.
Akali-resistant porous glass was prepared by phase separation in Na2O-B2O3-SiO2 system containing ZrO2 and MgO. ZrO2 was added for alkali-resistance and MgO for anti-cracking during leaching. Optimal content of ZrO2 for alkali-resistance was 7wt% and devitrification by heat treatment resulted from further addition. Pore size and pore volume were decreased and specific surface area was increased with ZrO2 addition due to depression in phase separation. Addition of 3mol% MgO to mother glass containing 7wt% ZrO2 was effective for anti-crack during leaching. In this case, with phase separation at 55$0^{\circ}C$ and 5$25^{\circ}C$ for 20 hrs. crack-free porous glasses could be prepared. The relation between pore size r and heat treatment time t at 55$0^{\circ}C$ was D=25.58+18.16t. According to measurement of gas permeability, the mechanism of gas permeation was Knudsen flow. N2 and He permeability of porous glass which was prepared by heat treatment at 55$0^{\circ}C$ for 20 hrs. were 0.843$\times$10-7mol/$m^2$.s.Pa and 2.161$\times$10-7mol/$m^2$.s.Pa respectively.
