COVID-19에 의한 EMS 동반손상 (Collateral damage of emergency medical services due to COVID-19)

  • Purpose: We aimed to provide effective emergency medical services (EMS) response strategies for coping with high acuity patients during the pandemic by analyzing the influence of the COVID-19 and social distancing on EMS. Methods: In this retrospective observational study, we analyzed the distribution of high acuity patients transported by Daejeon 1-1-9 EMS during the COVID-19 pandemic period, between February 1, 2020 and October 31, 2020 and the same period in 2019, as well as the level 3 social distancing enforced period, between July 27, 2020 and October 31, 2020. Results: The EMS dispatches decreased by 17% during the observed COVID-19 pandemic period compared to the same period in 2019. The number of cases with cardiac arrest and positive prehospital stroke scale rose by (p<.001). Patients with cardiac arrest, trauma, and positive prehospital stroke scale increased by during the level 3 social distancing period. Conclusion: Unlike the decreased EMS call volume and patient transports during the COVID-19 pandemic, cardiac arrest cases and the severity of high acuity patients tended to increase. We suggest that EMS systems should contrive a response strategy considering the collateral effect of major epidemics on the incidence rate of high acuity patients.

Effective Demand Lifting through Pre-Launch Movie Marketing Activities

  • The purpose of this paper is to examine empirically how to balance advertising expenditure before and after launch with regard to the direction of word of mouth in the motion picture industry. The vector auto-regression model is applied to assess the dynamic impact of advertising and word of mouth on sales. Empirical data, including advertising, word of mouth, and sales (the number of entries) of 83 movies are used for analysis. The research results show that for a movie having more positive word of mouth in the pre- and post-launch periods, it is worthwhile to spend the advertising budget in the pre-launch period only and to spare it in post-launch period. However, it is worthwhile to spare the advertising budget in the pre-launch period for movies having less positive word of mouth before and after launch, and to concentrate spending in post-launch period instead. Mangers who handle products and services facing shortened lifecycles, such as games, eBooks, and digital music contents, need to check the quality of pre-launch word of mouth for their advertising budget decisions in the pre- and post-launch periods and spend more of the advertising budget in the post- (pre-) launch period if pre-launch word of mouth is negative (positive). For products and services with a shortened lifecycle, it is recommended to spend more of the advertising budget in the post- (pre-) launch period if pre-launch word of mouth is negative (positive).

An Effective Stopping Rule for Software Reliability Testing

  • The importance of the reliability of software is growing more and more as more complicated digital computer systems are used for real-time control applications. To provide more reliable software, the testing period should be long enough, but not unnecessarily too long. In this study, we suggest a simple but effective stopping rule which can provide just proper amount of testing time. We take unique features of software into consideration and adopt non-homogeneous Poisson process model and Bayesian approach. A numerical example is given to demonstrate the validity of our stopping rule.

  • Vibration and vibro-acoustic characteristics of body panels enclosing the vehicle interior cabin are tested and analyzed for effective application of sound proofing materials. A set of deadener and insulation packages are proposed based on the experimentally evaluated and categorized contributions of noise radiating panels. The suggested packages are applied to a prototype vehicle, and a refined acoustic quality is achieved. A systematic experimental procedure proposed in this study can be a good tool in tuning the acoustic quality of prototype vehicles within a limited development period.

온도 측정을 통한 상용 쑥뜸의 자극효과에 대한 실험적 연구 - 승온속도 및 유효자극기를 중심으로 - (Experimental Study on the Stimulating Effect of Commercial Moxa Combustion through the Measurement of Temperature - Focused on ascending temperature gradient and effective stimulating period -)

  • Objective : The purpose of this study is to investigate the mechanism and effect of moxibustion objectively and to be used as the quantitative data for developing the new thermal stimulating treatment by observing the combustion characteristics of commercial moxaes. Methods : We have selected two types(large-size moxa A(LMA), large-size moxa B(LMB)) among large moxaes used widely in the clinic. We examined combustion times, temperatures, temperature gradients in each period during a combustion of moxa. Results : 1. The ascending temperature gradient measured in the central point of non-contacted surface was fastest, the average ascending temperature gradient of both moxaes was $0.0384^{\circ}C/sec$, $0.0123^{\circ}C/sec$ respectively, 3.1 times faster in LMA. The maximum ascending temperature gradient was also about 2.9 times faster in LMA. The time required for the maximum ascending temperature gradient from ignition was 254sec, 411sec respectively. 2. The minimum descending temperature gradient in the retaining period was $-0.0250^{\circ}C/sec$, $-0.0090^{\circ}C/sec$ respectively and the average descending temperature gradient was $-0.0160^{\circ}C/sec$, $-0.0037^{\circ}C/sec$ respectively on the non-contact surface. 3. On the basis of the non-contact surface($A_I$), the time at which the effective stimulus period began to occur was about 264sec, 796sec respectively after an ignition, the time at which the maximum temperature began to occur was about 373sec, 1323sec respectively after an ignition, and the maximum temperature was $0.9^{\circ}C$ higher in LMA. The maximum ascending temperature gradient was also about 4.2 times faster in LMA. Conclusion : It was thought that not only the figure of moxicombustion device, but also the form and size of moxa had influence on the combustion characteristics deciding the performance of stimulus seriously.

청소년의 음주폐해 예방 중재가 음주 빈도와 문제행동에 미치는 효과: 메타분석 (The Effect of Alcohol-related Harm Preventing Intervention on Drinking Frequency and Problem Behaviors of Adolescent: A Meta-analysis)

  • 본 연구는 청소년의 음주폐해 예방을 위한 학교기반, 피드백, 행동수정의 3가지 중재 중 음주 빈도와 문제행동의 감소에 효과적인 중재를 확인하고자 하였다. 청소년기 그룹에게 알코올 중재를 적용한 무작위대조군연구 16편을 대상으로 메타분석을 수행하였다. 학교기반, 피드백, 행동수정의 각 중재방법에 따른 음주빈도와 음주 문제행동을 추적기간별로 나누어 통계적 이질성, 효과크기, 민감도 검정을 실시하였다. 음주빈도의 감소를 위한 결과 피드백 중재가 3개월 미만에서, 음주 문제행동의 감소를 위한 결과 피드백 중재가 4~12개월의 추적기간에서 유의미한 차이를 보였다(p<.05). 음주 빈도의 결과 3개월 미만에서 학교기반이 "큰", 피드백은 "작은", 4~12개월에서는 피드백이 "큰" 효과크기로 해석되었다. 음주 문제행동의 결과 3개월 미만에서 학교기반이 "중간", 피드백은 "큰", 4~12개월에서는 학교기반이 "중간", 피드백은 "큰" 효과크기로 해석되었다. 피드백 중재가 3개월 미만의 추적기간 동안 음주 빈도의 감소를 위해 효과적이며, 4~12개월의 추적기간 동안에는 음주 문제행동 감소에 효과적인 중재임을 확인하였다. 또한 청소년의 음주폐해 감소 및 예방을 위한 학교기반 중재와 피드백 중재의 유용성을 확인하였다.

  • 옥수수의 숙기가 서로다른 8개의 자식계통과 이들간의 이면교배에 의하여 생산된 28개 $F_1$을 공시하여 등숙기간의 유전분석을 실시하였던 바 그 결과는 다음과 같다. 1. 초기등숙기간에서는 상가적 효과가 큰 부분우성으로 추정되었으며 유효등숙기간은 비대립 유전자의 상호작용이 없는 초우성으로 추정되었다. 2. 총등숙기간과 흑색층 출현일수는 상가적 효과가 비상가적 효과보다 큰 부분우성으로 추정되었다. 3. 유전자 분포상태는 유효등숙기간과 총등숙기간에서 양친들 중 FR25는 열성유전자의 관여도가 크게 나타났으며 YUBC208은 열성유전자로서의 관여도가 크게 작용하였다. 4. 유효등숙기간과 총등숙기간에 관여하는 유효 유전자수는 최소한 5개 정도가 있는 것으로 추정되었다.

회절격자 주기의 랜덤 변이가 DFB 레이저 특성에 미치는 영향 (Effects of the Random Fluctuation in Grating Period on the Characteristics of DFB Lasers)

  • 회절격자 주기의 랜덤 변이가 DFB 레이저의 특성에 미치는 영향을 유효 굴절률 전달 매트릭스 방법을 이용하여 해석하였다. 레이저의 양 거울면은 완전 무반사 처리되었다고 가정하였으며, 회절격자 주기의 변이는 Gaussian 랜덤 변수로 표현하였다. 회절격자 주기의 랜덤 변이는 균일 회절격자 DFB 레이저와 QWS-DFB 레이저 스펙트럼의 대칭성을 깨뜨리고 유효 결합계수를 감소시킨다. 이에 따라 균일 회절격자 DFB 레이저에서는 ${\pm}$1모드 거울면 손실의 평균값이 증가하고 금지 대역폭이 감소하며, QWS-DFB 레이저에서는 단일모드 안정성과 파장 정확도가 저하된다. QWS-DFB 레이저의 거울면 손실 차이는 결합계수에 관계없이 회절격자 주기의 랜덤 변이가 카짐에 따라 감소하고, spatial hole-burning 효과는 정규화된 결합계수가 1.5보다 클 때에는 주는 데 반하여 작을 때에는 커진다.

상업용 천연 항산화제의 사용에 다른 어유의 산화 안정성 연구 (Oxidation Stability of Fish Oil Containing Commercially Available Antioxidants)

  • 어유에 catechin, 로즈마리 추출물 (Antox1, Antox2, Antox3), carotene, 녹차 추출물 (Gtox) 등을 첨가하여 각각의 항산화력을 rancimat을 이용하여 측정하였으며, synergist외의 상승효과를 측정하였다. 사용된 항산화제 6종 중에서 catechin 500ppm을 첨가한 시료의 induction periods time이 4.35 hr로 control의 0.65 hr보다 3.7 hr의 차이를 보이면서 크게 나타났다. Catechin과 Antox3에 synergist인 gallic acid, EDTA, citric acid, vitamin C, ascorbic acid, propyl gallate를 사용하여 항산화 상승효과를 비교하였다. Catechin을 주 항산화제로 사용한 경우 vitamin C와 ascorbic acid의 synergist를 첨가하지 않은 control에 비해 약 1시간 이상 증가하였으며 Antox3의 경우 vitamin C와 ascorbic acid의 synergist를 첨가하였을 때 colure떼 비해 약 2시간 가량 증가함을 보였다. 그러나 전자코를 이용한 향구분 조사에 따르면, 이들 천연 항산화제를 사용하였을 때 본래의 어유취에 영향을 주는 것으로 나타났다.

파밤나방 유충의 발율 및 성충의 수명과 산란에 미치는 온도의 영향 (Effects of Some Temperatures on Larval Development, Adult Longevity and Oviposition of the Beet Armyworm, Spodoptera exigua Hubner)

  • Larval development, adult longevity and oviposition of the beet armyworm, Spodoptera exigua H bner was studied at 16, 20, 25 and 3$0^{\circ}C$ with a 16L: 8D photoperiod. Egg hatchability of S. exigua was the highest at 3$0^{\circ}C$ and reduced with decreasing temperature. Egg period was the shortest at 3$0^{\circ}C$ and prolonged with decreasing temperature. Percent pupation was became higher at higher temperature form 23.2% to 94.0%. Developmental period of larva was the shortest at 3$0^{\circ}C$, but extended with decreasing temperature. Adult emergence ratio was the highest at 3$0^{\circ}C$ and reduced with decreasing temperature. The mean pupal period was 35.2, 14.4, 7.8 and 5.0 days at 16, 20, 25 and 3$0^{\circ}C$, respectively. Relationships between constant temperature and the developmental velocity of egg, larva and pupa were linear. Developmental threshold temperature seems to be 13.3 8$^{\circ}C$ for egg, 14.02$^{\circ}C$ for larva, 14.09$^{\circ}C$ for pupa, and 13.84$^{\circ}C$ for egg the adult. Estimated value of the total effective temperature for completing each stage was 36.89 day-degree for egg, 155.72 day-degree for larva, 79.20 day-degree for pupa, and 273.41 day-degree for egg to adult. Female longevity varied to temperature from 11.4 days at 16$^{\circ}C$ to 5.8 days at 3$0^{\circ}C$, and male longevity was longer than that of female. Preoviposition period was the shortest at 3$0^{\circ}C$, but prolonged with decreasing temperature. It was about 2.7 times longer at 16$^{\circ}C$ than that at 3$0^{\circ}C$. Number of eggs per female was the highest at $25^{\circ}C$, followed by 20, 30 and 16$^{\circ}C$.
