  • This study aimed to identify the actor and partner effects of parenting efficacy, spousal support on parenting stress and depression in couples with children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Methods: A cross-sectional survey design was used. Participants were 103 couples (103 husbands, 103 wives) with children with ADHD visiting child adolescent psychiatry clinic or community mental health center in Seoul, Gyeonggi-do, South Korea. Data were analyzed by SPSS 20.0 and AMOS 20.0 program. Results: The parenting efficacy of husbands and wives had direct actor effect (β=-.69, p=.004; β=-.60, p=.004) and partner effect (β=-.22, p=.007; β=-.18, p=.026) on their parenting stress. In addition, husbands and wives's parenting efficacy had a direct actor effect (β=-.25, p=.031; β=-.21, p=.025) on their depression and indirect actor effect (β=-.25, p=.004; β=-.34, p=.004) through parenting stress on their depression. However, parenting stress did not show a partner effect on depression. Husband and wife's parenting efficacy had a direct effect (β=.46, p=.004; β=.25, p=.009) on perceived spousal support. The effects of husbands and wives were the same in actor effect size (χ2 differences=0.74, p=.390) and partner effect size (χ2 differences=0.20, p=.652) of parenting efficacy on parenting stress. In addition, the effect sizes of husbands and wives were the same in actor effect size (χ2 differences=0.93, p=.334) and partner effect size (χ2 differences=0.15, p=.704) for parenting stress and depression. Conclusion: The results of this study may provide the foundation for developing a nursing intervention program that can maximize interaction between couples with ADHD children.

  • In this study, molecular size distribution of natural organic matter (NOM) after ozonation was measured and its effect on adsorption capacity of activated carbon was investigated. According to the results, the molecular size of NOM was limitedly changed. Specifically, the molecular size of NOM between 5,000 to 10,000 Da were slightly decreased with increasing ozone doses. The adsorption capacity after ozonation was evaluated using Freundlich isotherm with ideal adsorbed solution theory (IAST) which simulated the multi components adsorption. Further, mini-column test was conducted. The Freundlich constant, K was reduced after ozonation and the non-adsorbable fraction was increased with ozonation. However, no correlation between K and ozone doses was found. The present study also agreed with the correlation between adsorption capacity and pore size characteristics of activated carbon.

  • A Monte Carlo simulation based on Potts model in a three dimensional lattice was studied to analyze and design microstructures in porous sintered compacts such as porosity, pore size, grain (particle) size and contiguity of grains. The effect of surface energy of particles and the content of additional fine particles to coarse particles on microstructure development were examined to obtain fundamentals for material design in porous materials. It has been found that the larger surface energy enhances sintering (necking) of particles and increases contiguity and surface energy does not change pore size and grain size. The addition of fine particles also enhances sintering of particles and increases contiguity, but it has an effect on increment of pore size and grain size. Such a simulation technique can give us important information or wisdom for design of porous materials, e.g., material system with high surface energy and fine particle audition are available for higher strength and larger porosity in porous sintered compacts with applications in an automobile.

  • This study examined the effects of particle size on the light scattering of a nano-sized color filter pigment used to obtain a range of colors in liquid crystal displays. The contrast ratio is one of the most important characteristics of liquid crystal displays. When a color filter is located between two crossed polarizers, the size of the pigment can give rise to a decrease in the contrast ratio due to Rayleigh scattering by the nanoparticles in the filter. The size effect of the color filter pigment on the contrast ratio was investigated in terms of the depolarization parameter. As an experimental result, the depolarization parameter increased with decreasing pigment size. Therefore, a smaller pigment size can reduce light leakage caused by light scattering in the color filter between two crossed polarizers. The depolarization function was also proposed as a useful function for predicting the decrease in the contrast ratio of the color filter.

  • In this paper, we investigate the effect of power control step size on the performance of the SIC scheme in DS/CDMA systems. We investigate the average power control iteration and its standard deviation and evaluate the outage performance for several different values of power control step size. Because the SIC scheme requires fine control in the received signal power, the better outage performance is obtained fer the smaller power control step size. However, the smaller power control step size requires larger amount of power control iteration in order to make the power control converge to the steady state. Under the simulated environment, the proper power control step size is about 0.3-0.4dB from both convergence speed of power control algorithm and outage performance points of view.

  • This investigation was undertaken to establish the technologies of grain refinement and modification, and to characterize material properties, essential for high quality aluminum alloy castings. Grain refinement seldom changed DAS and eutectic Si size, but largely decrease grain size. The variations of grain size induced by grain refinement had a great influence on the elongation without changes in the tensile strength or yield strength. The optimum Ti level lies between 0.1% and 0.16% to achieve the best possible mechanical properties. DAS and grain size were little affected, but eutectic Si size was greatly refined by modification. The variation of eutectic Si size had a great effect on the elongation, impact value, fracture toughness and fatigue crack propagation rate without changes in the tensile strength or yield strength. The Sr content of 0.015% is optimum to modification.

  • To investigate the dependences of the absorption spectrum and electronic structure properties on the ZnO nano-particle size, ZnO nanocrystals were synthesized by a sol-gel method. The absorption onset peak exhibits a systematic blue-shift with decreasing particle size due to the quantum confinement effect, as well as, with decreasing $Zn^{2+}$ concentration. The increase of particle size is mainly controlled by coarsening and aggregation step during the nucleation and growth of ZnO nano-particles. The onset absorption spectrum of ZnO colloids changes from 310 to 355 nm as $Zn^{2+}$ concentration increases from 0.01 to 0.1 mole. The average particle size as a function of aging- time can be determined from the absorption spectra. The freshly prepared nanocrystal size was about 2.8nm.

  • Heterophase polymer system has been attractive for a potential applicability to gas separation membrane material. It has been known that there is a trade-off between gas permeability and its selectivity in common polymers. Therefore, the heterophase polymer can be an alternative for a gas separation membrane material because its transport properties can be readily controlled by blending of two different polymers. The transport properties of immiscible polymer blends strongly depend upon the intrinsic transport properties of corresponding polymers. Another important factor to determine the transport properties is their morphology: volume fraction, size and shape of dispersed phase. Although the effect of the volume fraction of the dispersed phase on the transport properties has been widely investigated, the size and shape effects have been paid attention very much. In an immiscible polymer blend of two polymers, its morphology is primarily controlled by its volume fraction of dispersed phase. Therefore, the effect of the size of the dispersed phase can be hardly seen. Therefore, a block copolymer has been commonly employed to control their morphology when each block is miscible with one or the other phase. In this work, gas transport properties will be measured by varying the morphology of the heterophase polymer membrane. The transport properties will be interpreted in terms of their morphology. The effect of the volume fraction of the PI phase and, in particular, its size effect will be investigated experimentally and theoretically.

  • Objectives: To analyze the characteristics of smoking prevention programs for the adolescent, and to synthesize the common effect sizes on smoking prevention programs for the adolescent. Methods: Seventeen studies for meta-analysis were selected from dissertations, these, and papers that had been published from 1996 to 2005 and had a randomized or nonequivalent control group in a pre test-post test design. The analysis of the data was computed by using the meta-analysis software package developed by Song(2003). Results: Smoking prevention programs for the adolescent have resulted in a significant effect size on smoking-knowledge( .62), smoking-attitude( .55) of smoking prevention programs for the adolescent showed more than 'medium effect' size. In smoking-knowledge and amount of smoking, the effect size was smoking-attitudes, the effect size was large in the studies which consists of more than 10 sessions of intervention. Conclusion: From the above results, we notice that the smoking prevention programs for the adolescent were effective in increasing the smoking-knowledge, smoking-attitudes, and the intention of smoking-cessation.
