A Case Study on the Digital Media-Connected Liveness of the Dance Performance: Focused on the Chang-jak-san-shil Dance Project (무용공연의 디지털미디어연계 실황중계 사례분석 : 창작산실 무용 지원사업을 중심으로)

  • The case of Dance Chang-jak-san-shil, a dance performance support project linked to digital media, was analyzed from the perspective of liveness. The purpose was to examine the limitations of the liveness and to suggest ways to overcome them. The research case was focused on the factors of the time and space and audience (the sharing of field and acceptance experience) of the creative production room that supports works based on the creativity of dance performances. As a result, active SNS for accessibility of performing arts, expansion of access to art through the use of teaching media of art education through archiving, multi-dimensional access and provision for inducing audience participation and creative appreciation in one-way digital media transmission, provision of copyright protection devices, and audience to enter offline. As a long-term strategy for the future of the performing arts field, I would like to present the need for a change in the communication with the audience and experimental works that combine art and technology.

A Study on Analyzing and Prospecting for the Future of the Public Libraries' Cultural Programs in Seoul (서울시 공공도서관 문화행사 유형 분석 및 향후 전망에 대한 고찰)

  • The objective of this study is to suggest a future direction for cultural programs in public libraries by literature review and the investigation of the programs in practice in Seoul Metropolitan City from various perspectives. The programs were categorized by their characteristics, such as subject, users, and managerial aspects based on the literature review. Then we investigated their rates to total number of programs in order to identify trends in years. There were two interesting points as follows: experience-centered and health education programs have been increasing in terms of the subject, and participation-oriented programs in terms of managerial aspects has also been increasing. The results led us to suggest strengthening the programs in those categories for future planning on public libraries' cultural programs.

  • This Paper discusses a theoretical approach to assess the acceptability on nuclear energy facili-ties and policies, that is associated with derivation of indicators influencing perception on the nuclear energy. Facets of the public perception include the necessity of nuclear energy, expected benefits and costs, possi-bility of control, nuclear energy risk sentiment level, and equality between present and future generations. It also identifies indicators directly or indirectly affecting the perception facets and classifies them into the knowledge-based and the trust-based. Knowledge on nuclear energy facility is acquired on the foundation of the understanding of fact, through information, education, PR, and experience the media. Meanwhile, trust on nuclear energy Policies as value judgment on reality is built through legitimacy, communication, compensa-tion, participation, and the media. Multi-dimensional analysis on nuclear energy acceptability will provide a key to developing a more realistic and mutually agreeable policies and solving the imminent issues.

Mental Stress from Animal Experiments: a Survey with Korean Researchers

  • Animal experiments have been widely conducted in the life sciences for more than a century, and have long been a subject of ethical and societal controversy due to the deliberate infliction of harm upon sentient animals. However, the harmful use of animals may also negatively impact the mental health of researchers themselves. We sought to evaluate the anxiety level of researchers engaged in animal use to analyse the mental stress from animal testing. The State Anxiety Scale of the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI) was used to evaluate how researchers feel when they conduct animal, as opposed to non-animal, based experiments (95 non-animal and 98 animal testing researchers). The Trait Anxiety Scale of STAI was employed to measure proneness to anxiety, namely the base trait of the researchers. Additionally, the information on sex, age, education, income, and total working periods was collected. While the Trait Anxiety scores were comparable ($41.5{\pm}10.9$ versus $42.9{\pm}10.1$, p = 0.3682, t-test), the State Anxiety scores were statistically significantly higher for animal users than non-animal users ($45.1{\pm}10.7$ versus $41.3{\pm}9.4$, p = 0.011). This trend was consistent for both male and female. Notably, younger animal testers (${\leq}30$ years of age) with less work experience (${\leq}2$ years) and lower income level (${\leq}27,000$ USD) exhibited higher anxiety scores, whereas these factors did not affect the anxiety level of non-animal users. The present study demonstrated that participation in animal experiments can negatively impact the mental health of researchers.

A Study on Quality Improvement Activities in Korean Hospitals (국내 의료기관의 질 향상 활동 현황)

  • Background : This study was carried out to assess the quality improvement(QI)activities in Korean hospitals. Methods : A mailed questionnaire survey was conducted between September 15 and October 30, 2000. The staffs being charge of QI each of the hospitals with 400 beds or more responded to the questionnaire. Of the 108 hospitals eligible for inclusion in our study, 69 participated, yielding a response rate of 63.9%. Results : Based on these survey, 87.3 percent of the responding hospitals were performing QI projects and 54 percent of the hospitals had a separate department for QI activity. About 62 percent of hospitals performing QI activity (QI hospitals) had a QI manager and 58 percent had a separate budget for QI activities. Among the QI hospitals, 85 percent had cross-functional or cross-departmental teams as the major mechanisms for doing QI projects, 94 percent had one or more educational programs on QI. The level of physician's participation level for QI projects was lower than other staff(CEO, nurses and other administrators). Conclusion : The majority of the hospitals have undertaken activities in QI. For the successful implemented QI, the involvement of and education for employees(including physicians and other health professionals)are needed as well as management strategy and leadership. Understanding of other hospitals experience would be helpful for health care managers to plan and initiate QI activities.

An Analysis of the Perception of Elderly Women about Sexuality through their Group Counseling Experience (여성노인의 집단상담 경험을 통한 섹슈얼리티 인식변화에 관한 분석)

  • This study is a qualitative case study for discovering any change in the perception of elderly women about sexuality through a group counseling program. For this the study selected eight elderly people who are female aged 65 or over living in D city and have a spouse who is able to have a consistent sex life. Then the study collected relevant data by offering eight sessions of a group counseling program, and carried out an analysis with an approach to case studies. As a result of the research, there were changes in their perceptions about and current life satisfaction, relationships for unity, pleasure relaxation active self-expression, sexual relations. After their participation in the program, participants had a positive perception about a sex concept, namely sexuality and they came to think about the need for an increase of sexuality for raising the satisfaction of life in late years. These research results would be offered as basic data of research into sexuality which may be able to enhance the quality of the lives of elderly people, such as the positive recognition of sex, active sexual intercourses, and the improvement of self-esteem.

Awareness of Physical Therapy Rehabilitation Program after Breast Cancer Surgery in Healthy Korean Women (건강한 한국여성들을 대상으로 한 유방암 수술 후 물리치료 적용에 대한 인식도 조사)

  • PURPOSE: The purpose this study was to investigate the awareness of physical therapy as one of rehabilitation interventions for post-operative women with breast cancer in healthy Korean women. METHODS: This study recruited 223 adult women aged 20 and older who never had breast cancer but received physical therapy. This study used a structured questionnaire consisting of 13 items in 3 fields designed to focus on socio-demographic characteristics, breast cancer experience of friends or family, and awareness of physical therapy as one of methods to improve rehabilitation of patients following breast cancer surgery. RESULTS: Among respondents who completed the survey, 62.8% were interested in breast cancer. However, 78.1% had never heard of physical therapy as a rehabilitation intervention for post-operative women with breast cancer. 44.4% believed that physical therapy is necessary after breast cancer surgery. 69.5% of the respondents were willing to participate in a physical therapy rehabilitation program if there were diagnosed with breast cancer, and 59.2% believed that the participation in this program would be beneficial. 42.9% acquired some information that physical therapy is one type of rehabilitation to improve physical condition for women with breast cancer from the Internet or television. In addition, education level affected interest and awareness of physical therapy for breast cancer. Awareness about breast cancer and physical therapy were higher among well-educated respondents. CONCLUSION: This study suggests that a physical therapy rehabilitation program is specifically developed, and correct information on it is provided to improve health condition in women following breast cancer surgery.

Teaching with Geospatial Technologies and Changes in the Classroom: A Case Study of Six Teachers (공간정보기술의 활용과 교실수업의 변화 -여섯 교사의 사례-)

  • This study investigated six teachers who used the lessons utilizing geospatial technologies including GPS and Google Earth. The lessons were designed to ask students to solve problems with the technologies rather than to teach students to just use technology and teachers to function more as a facilitator. Key findings include: (1) The teachers with background and interest in learner-centered teaching were more effective in implementing the lessons with their students while the teachers who were familiar with teacher-centered instruction often reduced learners' roles in the lesson; (2) Generally, students expressed huge interests in the lessons. Changes in attitude and participation toward lessons were more clearly observed from low achievers and passive learners; (3) Key influencing factors in adoption of lessons utilizing geospatial technologies were school culture toward innovativeness, characteristics of school administrators, learning experience of the lessons during the workshops, and support systems for lesson preparation and implementation.

The Effects of the Upright Body Type Exercise Program on Foot Plantar Pressure of Archers

  • Objective: This study collected data on muscle fatigue and ground reaction force during walking to provide a basis for development of custom-fitted outdoor walking shoes. The study analyzed an upright body exercise program using spine stabilization technique to determine the effect on foot plantar pressure in archers, demonstrate the effectiveness of upright body exercise, and develop a new, effective, and efficient training program. Method: A 12-week upright body exercise program was evaluated for the effect on plantar pressure in archers. Ten prize-winning archers (3 men, 7 women) in B metropolitan city, each with ${\geq}10years$ of experience, were given an explanation of the content and purpose of the program, and provided informed consent. Upright body exercise was performed 3 times a week for 12 weeks. A resistive pressure sensor was used to measure foot plantar pressure distribution and analyze quantitative information on variation in postural stability and weight shifting in dynamic balance during shooting, as well as plantar pressure in static balance with the eyes open and closed. Results: There were no significant differences in foot plantar pressure before and after participation in the exercise program. There was no statistically significant difference in foot plantar pressure in static balance with the eyes open or closed, or in foot plantar pressure in dynamic balance during shooting. Conclusion: An upright body exercise program had positive effects on foot plantar pressure in static and dynamic balance in archers by reducing body sway and physical imbalance during shooting and with eyes closed. This program is expected to help archers improve their posture and psychological state, and thereby improve performance.

Inclusion Strategy for Hearing Impaired Students with Community of Knowledge (지식커뮤니티 기반의 청각장애아동 통합교육전략)

  • Inclusion of hearing impaired students in general schools is the current tendency in deaf education today. The goal of inclusion is to promote the academic and social inclusion of hearing impaired students, where academic inclusion focuses on higher academic achievement and class participation level. However, some studies have shown that hearing impaired students attending general schools mostly experience feelings of isolation, rejection and loneliness, and encounter identity development problems. This study reviews the research on the inclusion of hearing impaired students in general schools, as well as the perceptions of their parents, teachers on their academic and social inclusion. A further aim of this study is to explore the supporting services, teachers's attitude, career guidance service and effective collaborative partnership among teachers for hearing impaired students. This study concludes with suggesting the community of knowledge as integrative supporting strategy for inclusion.
