  • The purpose of this paper is to discover how the use of digital applications can affect students' attitudes toward positive classroom participation and performance in learning a foreign language. Participants of this study were 128 students who took a foreign language class at a high school in central Korea. To find out students' perceptions and attitudes toward the effect of using a digital application for their foreign language study, online questionnaire and focus-group interview were conducted. Our research findings revealed that these students could engage in active language learning and experience learning improvement while studying a foreign language with digital applications. The improvement was possible by creating more interactive activities and quizzes. In addition, the digital application provided students immediate feedback. It gave students and teachers various motivations beyond the traditional 'chalk and talk' format of text-only-classes. This study provides an overview of the usefulness of digital application. In addition, it provides understanding for students' perceptions and involvement using digital application in a foreign language classroom.

As for the participation experience process, four stages had surfaced, namely, 'Perception of chronic disease', 'Concerned about health', 'Developing life pattern', 'Restoring health'. These processes were within 'Restoring Health Equilibrium', core category. Consequently, the participants revealed in restoring relationship-oriented life and settling in family-focused life. Conclusions: These findings have implications for the understanding of health promotion for the elderly with chronic diseases and contributing to make a basic data for developing elderly health management program.

  • This study investigated the problem of the existing rural development plan where the opinions of local residents are excluded due to the lack of expert knowledge and limited participation and sought the village development plan driven by the voluntary participation of local residents by applying a rural forum targeting rural villages to solve the problem. As a result of the study, (1) the problem of the current village development plan should be made based on the participation of local residents, and (2) this problem has remained as an important challenge. Therefore, the village improvement activities that have reflected the opinions of local residents can be said to be (3) the process that seeks the change into the rural planning process led by local residents, and this study derived the ways to ensure the voluntary behavior of local residents, strengthen local residents' capacity to create on-going villages, and expand local residents' participation opportunities in the entire process of rural planning through the application of the rural forum. (4) Although it is generally difficult for local residents to propose opinions directly and exert influence in the rural planning and design process and it is not easy to reduce the difference in the perspective between the professionals and local residents, significance lies in the fact that local residents voluntarily determine the future of their region and derive the plan. Therefore, the experience of decision-making and consensus process through the rural forum can promote the sustainability of the village creation participated by local residents and the increase of local residents' role. This study took one village as an example to reflect the results applied to the rural forum, and it is difficult to determine that it has been fully verified with the method of residents' participation. Therefore, future studies to verify the effectiveness of village creation and seek the empirical utilization measures are needed more, and the operation of education programs and various support plans suitable to the capacity and level of local residents should be promoted rather than the traditional lecture-style stereotyped education in the future for sustainable rural development.

The data was gathered through questionnaires. The statistical analysis for this study were frequency. T-test. correlation. Anallysis of Variance(ANOVA), Multiple Regression. Cronbach's Alpha was used to test the reliability of the scales. The major results were as follows : First, there were no significant child's sex and birth in generative fathering. Second. there were significant father's job, income of home and type of family but there were no significant paternal education, father's age and where or not the mother works outside the home in generative fathering. Third. generative fathering was positively correlated with paternal childhood experience. paternal marital satisfaction and father's job satisfaction. Fourth, generative fathering was negatively correlated with parenting stress. Fifth, there were significant differences according to sex-role identity of father in generative fathering that is, generative fathering had more participation and responsibility when father had androgynous or feminine identity than when they had masculine or undifferentiated. Sixth, in multiple regression analysis, generative fathering was predicted significantly by paternal childhood experience, father's sex-role identity. paternal job satisfaction and parenting stress.

  • The purpose of this study was to determine the teaching styles of professors who teach adult students in selected higher institutions. It also identified whether professors' teaching styles were teacher-centered or learner-centered and examined the relationship between instructors' teaching styles and such instructor demographic variables as gender, years of teaching experience, and taught level of courses. This study used The Principles of Adult Learning Scale(PALS) (Conti,1983) to measure instructional preferences. Demographic characteristics were collected through a personal data inventory. The analysis of variance (ANOVA) and multivariate analysis of variance (MANOVA) tests were used to analyze the data. The data were examined for significance at the .05 level of confidence by means of analysis of variance. The dependent variables in this study were teaching styles of full-time professor, as represented by the seven subscores from the standardized instrument on the PALS. The seven subscores were: (1) learner-centered activities, (2) personalizing instruction, (3) relating to experience, (4) assessing student needs, (5) climate building, (6) participation in the learning process, and (7) flexibility for personal development. The study established that there was a significant difference in mean scores on the PALS between participants when examined by the number of years of teaching experiences.
