Attitude and satisfaction of head and neck anatomy class using virtual reality (VR) in dental hygiene students (치위생학과 학생의 가상현실(VR) 적용 두경부해부학 수업태도 및 만족도)

  • Objectives: This study was conducted to verify the effectiveness of the VR-applied head and neck anatomy class and to be used as basic data for the development of a teaching method using VR in the basic dental hygiene field. Methods: A convenience sample was extracted from 128 students and graduates who completed the head and neck anatomy class at the department of dental hygiene at a university in Gwangju. From June 1 to July 31, 2021, an online survey was conducted on class attitude and satisfaction, and statistical analysis was performed using frequency analysis and independent sample t-test. Results: Class attitude (3.79), interest (3.64), attention (3.88), learning motivation (3.80), and achievement motivation (3.84) were all high in the head and neck anatomy VR application group (p<0.01). Satisfaction (3.99), relevance of class content (4.06) and class achievement (3.96) were high in the head and neck anatomy VR application group (p<0.01). The suitability of class attitude (3.65) and class content (sub-item of class satisfaction) (4.13) was high in the group with the 4th industrial revolution education experience (p<0.05). Conclusions: The effect of VR application in the head and neck anatomy class was confirmed to increase students' class attitude and satisfaction. In the basic dental hygiene curriculum, it will be necessary to develop and utilize teaching methods related to the 4th industrial revolution and VR application classes.

  • As a means of treatment for people with disabilities, there is a growing interest in horse riding. Horse riding improves physical conditions such as muscles, joints, and cardiopulmonary function, alleviates tension, and encourages confidence through large animals such as horses. The various therapeutic effects of therapeutic horse riding have been recognized by many medical professionals, including the American Occupational Therapy and Physical Therapy Association. On the other hand, in Korea, there is not yet a scientific basis for the therapeutic effects of specific diseases or clinical treatments. The purpose of this study was to investigate the possibility of rehabilitation related professional worker's therapeutic horse riding. Recognition and use experience of therapeutic horse riding were generally low, but doctors who wanted to use it when the expectation of effectiveness and therapeutic horse riding education were assumed were relatively high. Based on these results, it can be confirmed that the therapeutic horse riding will be recognized as a clinical treatment method in the future.

  • The aim of this research was to investigate the relationship among team learning behavior, individual creativity, team shared mental model(TSMM), mutual performance monitoring on team creativity and then providing the fundamental data on the education. Also it intended to acknowledge relative predictive power on team creativity of independent variables. The total of 257 college students participated the team learning for 6 weeks in a semester. Pearson's product moment correlation and regression analysis were used for data analysis and testing of significance of verification, The main research results are summarized as follows; team learning behavior, TSMM, mutual performance monitoring had no significant effects on three subfactors of team creativity such as novelty, resolution, elaboration & synthesis. Therefore followed researches are needed about inter and intra processing of team creativity.

  • To prevent corruption, waste, and abuse in national governance, audit agencies are established and granted significant authority and responsibilities, including ensuring their independence. However, questions have been raised about who oversees these agencies and addresses issues or misconduct that may arise within them. In the United States, to address this oversight concern, the Inspector General Act was enacted, creating an audit community called the Inspector General Community. This community comprises various audit agencies and promotes compliance with standards and investigates potential wrongdoing by audit personnel. It fosters a culture of independence and collaboration among diverse stakeholders, such as Congress, the President, the Government Accountability Office, and agency leadership. In light of this successful approach in the United States, this research seeks to study and apply similar oversight mechanisms to audit agencies in South Korea. There is a need to develop the relationship between oversight bodies and parliament in terms of improving the efficiency and effectiveness of government operations. Accordingly, this paper studies this American case and presents efficient policy measures for the supervisory system to be applied to Korea's audit organizations. It aims to identify policy insights for effective supervision, ensuring independence, and fostering a collaborative culture within our audit institutions. Therefore, domestic interest and research on this matter are essential to enhance our audit mechanisms and achieve efficient governance.

Physical Therapist's Perception of Correct Breathing Method and the Effectiveness of Breathing Training

  • Objective: The study analyzed the awareness of physical therapists regarding correct breathing methods and the effect of breathing training on patients. Design: A cross-sectional survey study. Methods: Physical therapists who agreed to participate in the study, held a license as a physical therapist, and had training or experience in breathing were included as subjects. A total of 136 questionnaires were collected, out of which 129 were analyzed. The questionnaire consisted of 26 items, divided into several sections covering awareness of breathing methods, breathing and muscles, breathing and mind, breathing and movement, perception of mouth breathing and nose breathing, experience applying respiration as a treatment, perception of breathing and treatment, awareness of breathing and pain, awareness of breathing and chronic diseases and prevention, perceptions related to breathing and sleep, and educational background. Results: The study found that most therapists were aware of diaphragmatic breathing, but not Lamaze breathing. 76.7% claimed to that there is a correct breathing method, and the majority were aware of the reasons for correct breathing. The majority believed in the therapeutic effect of breathing, with core exercise breathing training being the most commonly used in therapy. 81.7% of therapists had taught a specific breathing method to a patient, and diaphragmatic breathing was the most provided treatment. There was no significant difference in perception according to clinical experience, but there was a significant difference in perception according to educational background. Conclusions: The study provided clinical background on Physical Therapists' belief on correct breathing method, and uses of breathing training during treatment. The results suggest there is a need for a coherent education on breathing method and techniques among Physical Therapists.

Influence of folic acid knowledge on effective folic acid intake in Chinese pregnant women: a cross-sectional study

  • Purpose: This study aimed to investigate the current status of effective folic acid intake and the level of folic acid knowledge of Chinese pregnant women and to analyze the relationship between effective folic acid intake and folic acid knowledge. Methods: From November 2021 to May 2022, 140 pregnant women at Yantai Yuhuangding Hospital in the Chinese province of Shandong, answered questions about their general characteristics, folic acid intake, and folic acid knowledge. The data were analyzed using the t-test, chi-square test, and logistic regression analysis, and were presented with frequency with percentage or mean±standard deviation. Results: Only 16.4% of the pregnant women (n=23) took folic acid effectively, using the following four criteria. Of all pregnant women who took folic acid, 72.2% took folic acid starting 1 month before pregnancy, 70.8% took folic acid up to 3 months after pregnancy, 36.8% took 400 ㎍ every time, and 78.6% took folic acid more than 24 days every month. The score for folic acid knowledge was relatively high (5.61±2.18 on a scale of 0-9). A higher folic acid knowledge score correlated with more effective folic acid intake (t=4.10, p<.001). Conclusions: Our study shows that the current recommendations to prevent neural tube defects through effective folic acid intake supplementation are not being fully implemented in China. Furthermore, folic acid knowledge was positively correlated with the effectiveness of its intake. Future education related to effective folic acid intake should emphasize the four methods of effective folic acid intake, especially regarding the recommended dose of 400 ㎍ every time.

Artificial Intelligence on Nursing: A Scoping Review (간호에서의 인공지능연구: 주제범위 문헌고찰)

  • This study is a scoping review to identify the research trend on the awareness and use of artificial intelligence in the nursing field in South Korea. The methodological framework of Arskey and O'Malley was used, and studies published from 2010 to 2023 were analyzed. A total of 20 studies were used in the final review, and most of the descriptive studies were published in academic journals. The most relevant variables in artificial intelligence research were related to clinical nursing, and the literature topics were artificial intelligence recognition and readiness for the use of artificial intelligence, nursing adaptation, and artificial intelligence-related nursing ethics. This study systematically analyzed the current status of artificial intelligence in the nursing field in Korea and suggested the direction of further research. This study propose follow-up research to develop the capacity to utilize artificial intelligence in Korea's nursing clinical and educational sectors and to support its effectiveness.

High-Fidelity Perforator Visualization for Cadaver Dissection in Surgical Training

  • In the first half of the third century B.C., Herophilus and Erasistratus performed the first systematic dissection of the human body. For subsequent centuries, these cadaveric dissections were key to the advancement of anatomical knowledge and surgical techniques. To this day, despite various instructional methods, cadaver dissection remained the best way for surgical training. To improve the quality of education and research through cadaveric dissection, our institution has developed a unique method of perforator-preserving cadaver injection, allowing us to achieve high-fidelity perforator visualization for dissection studies, at low cost and high efficacy. Ten full body cadavers were sectioned through the base of neck, bilateral shoulder, and hip joints. The key was to dissect multiple perfusing arteries and draining veins for each section, to increase "capture" of vascular territories. The vessels were carefully flushed, insufflated, and then filled with latex dye. Our injection dye comprised of liquid latex, formalin, and acrylic paint in the ratio of 1:2:1. Different endpoints were used to assess adequacy of injection, such as reconstitution of eyeball volume, skin turgor, visible dye in subcutaneous veins, and seepage of dye through stab incisions in digital pulps. Dissections demonstrated the effectiveness of the dye, outlining even the small osseous perforators of the medial femoral condyle flap and subconjunctival plexuses. Our technique emphasized atraumatic preparation, recreation of luminal space through insufflation, and finally careful injection of latex dye with adequate curing. This has allowed high-fidelity perforator visualization for dissection studies.

  • The purpose of this study is to provide the conformity for developing project-based teaching$\cdot$learning materials for the mathematically gifted students. And this study presents development procedural model in order to improve the effectiveness, analyze its practical usage and examine the verification of the developed materials. It made the following results regarding the development of project-based teaching$\cdot$learning materials for gifted children in mathematics. First, it is necessary to provide appropriate teaching$\cdot$learning model to develop the materials, and the materials should be restructured to be available to other level students. Second, it is suggested to develop a prototype in order to develop teaching$\cdot$learning materials for gifted children in mathematics, further the prototype needs to be restructured until it satisfies theoretical frame. Third, an introduction should be made before the activity to perform the projects effectively. Fourth, a teacher's guidance should introduce children's examples corresponding to the objectives of learning, the examples of topics examined by students, and teacher's manual and attention for teaching. This study has a point of presenting the detailed guidelines with regards to development of teaching$\cdot$learning materials for gifted students in mathematics. Investigating the Effectiveness of Multimedia Electronic Book for Children's Reading Education (초등학생 독서교육을 위한 멀티미디어 전자책의 효용성 평가)

  • This study examines the differences in children's reading comprehension and satisfaction of storybooks according to a type of medium(paper and multimedia e-books). Six different storybooks were used and 85 children participated. Each child read a paper book and an e-book(both are different books). The study results showed that overall, the type of medium did not significantly affect the children's reading comprehension of all six storybooks: for two storybooks, some comprehension scores of paper books were higher than those of e-books, on the other hand, some comprehension scores of e-books were higher than those of paper books. Satisfaction scores of paper books are a little bit higher that those of e-books, although resulting in no statistically significant difference between two types. In addition, the study suggested that the amount of annual readings is positively related to improving children's composition ability and information acquisition ability. Finally, we proposed how to promote the use of e-books in the school library environments in terms of its usability and management policies.
