A wind-tunnel experiment is carried out to examine the applicability of a new passive device, wake disrupter, to flow over a model vehicle for drag reduction. The wake disrupter is a small-size rectangular body attached to a part of the trailing edge of the model vehicle, designed to perturb an essentially two-dimensional nature of wake. A pair of wake disrupter is mounted on the mid-span at the upper and lower trailing edges. From a parametric study about the size of wake disrupter, it is found that the optimum disrupter increases the base pressure by about 20%. Large eddy simulation is also conducted to confirm the experimental result, and shows that the wake is indeed disrupted by the present device.
The conventional 3D graphic accelerator is mainly focused on high performance in the application area of computer graphic and 3D video game How ever the existing 3D architecture is not suitable for portable devices because of its huge power. So, we analyze the embedded 3D graphics renderer. After the analyzing, to reduce the power, triangle set-up stage and edge walking stage are executed sequentially while scan-line processing stage and span processing stage which control performance of 3D graphic accelerator are executed parallel.
Displacements near crack and stress intensity factor (SIF) are key parameters to solve rock failure issue when using fracture mechanics. In order to study the horizontal displacement and stress intensity factor of the mode I fracture, a series of three-point bending tests of granite specimens with central notch were carried out. The evolution of horizontal displacements of precast notch and crack tip opening displacements (CTOD) were analyzed based on the digital image correlation (DIC) method. Stress intensity factors for three-point bending beams with arbitrary span-to-width ratios(S/W) were calculated by using the WU-Carlsson analytical weight function for edge-crack finite width plate and the analytical solution of un-cracked stress by Filon. The present study provides a high efficient and accurate method for fracture mechanics analysis of the three-point bending granite beams.

A computational simulation for a nonslender BWB UCAV configuration with rounded leading edge and span of 1.0m was performed to analyze its aerodynamic characteristics. The freestream is 50m/s over -4 to 26 degree A.o.A.s. Reynolds number based on the mean chord length is $1.25{\times}10^6$. 3D multi block hexahedral grids are used which allow good grid quality and ease to capture boundary layer. ${\gamma}-Re_{\theta}$ model as well as $k-{\omega}$ SST model is employed to assess the effect of transition for flow behavior. Drag and lift of the UCAV were well predicted while $C_M$ is under predicted at high angle of attacks and influenced by the turbulence models strongly. After assessing pressure distribution, skin friction lines and velocity field around the UCAV configuration, it was found that transition effect should be considered to enhance the prediction of aerodynamic behavior by a vortical flowfield.
An original sensor system based on Fiber Bragg Gratings (FBG) for the strain monitoring of an adaptive wing element is presented in this paper. One of the main aims of the SARISTU project is in fact to measure the shape of a deformable wing for performance optimization. In detail, an Adaptive Trailing Edge (ATE) is monitored chord- and span-wise in order to estimate the deviation between the actual and the desired shape and, then, to allow attaining a prediction of the real aerodynamic behavior with respect to the expected one. The integration of a sensor system is not trivial: it has to fit inside the available room and to comply with the primary issue of the FBG protection. Moreover, dealing with morphing structures, large deformations are expected and a certain modulation is necessary to keep the measured strain inside the permissible measure range. In what follows, the mathematical model of an original FBG-based structural sensor system is presented, designed to evaluate the chord-wise strain of an Adaptive Trailing Edge device. Numerical and experimental results are compared, using a proof-of-concept setup. Further investigations aimed at improving the sensor capabilities, were finally addressed. The elasticity of the sensor structure was exploited to enlarge both the measurement and the linearity range. An optimisation process was then implemented to find out an optimal thickness distribution of the sensor system in order to alleviate the strain level within the referred component.

In the present work, the main features of primary vortices and the vorticity concentrations downstream of vortex bursting in crossflow plane of a delta wing with a sweep angle of Λ=70° were investigated under the variation of the sideslip angles, β. For the pre-review of flow structures, dye visualization was conducted. In connection with a qualitative observation, a quantitative flow analysis was performed by employing Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV). The sideslip angles, β were varied with four different angles, such as 0°, 4°, 12°, and 20° while angles of attack, α were altered between 25° and 35°. This study mainly focused on the instantaneous flow features sequentially located at different crossflow planes such as x/C=0.6, 0.8 and 1.0. As a summary, time-averaged and instantaneous non-uniformity of turbulent flow structures are altered considerably resulting in non-homogeneous delta wing surface loading as a function of the sideslip angle. The vortex bursting location on the windward side of the delta wing advances towards the leading-edge point of the delta wing. The trajectory of the primary vortex on the leeward side slides towards sideways along the span of the delta wing. Besides, the uniformity of the lift coefficient, CL over the delta wing plane was severely affected due to unbalanced distribution of buffet loading over the same plane caused by the variation of the sideslip angle, β. Consequently, dissimilarities of the leading-edge vortices result in deterioration of the mean value of the lift coefficient, CL.
For super long-span bridges, the aerodynamic forces induced by the flow passing the box girder should be considered carefully. And the Reynolds number sensitively of aerodynamic characteristics is one of considerable issue. In the study, a numerical study on the Reynolds number sensitivity of aerodynamic characteristic (flow pattern, pressure distribution and aerodynamic forces) of a twin-box girder were carried out using large eddy simulation (LES) with the dynamic Smagorinsky-Lilly subgrid model. The results show that the aerodynamic characteristics have strong correlation with the Reynolds number. At the leading edge, the flow experiences attachment, departure, and reattachment stages accompanying by the laminar transition into turbulence, causing pressure plateaus to form on the surface, and the pressure plateaus gradually shrinks. Around the gap, attributing that the flow experiences stages of laminar cavity flow, the wake with alternate shedding vortices, and turbulent cavity flow in sequence with an increase in the Reynolds number, the pressures around the gap vary greatly with the Reynold number. At the trailing edge, the pressure gradually recovers as the flow transits to turbulence (the flow undergoes wake instability, shear layer transition-reattachment station), In addition, at relative high Reynolds numbers, the drag force almost does not change, however, the lift force coefficient gradually decreases with an increase in Reynolds number.
The wind pressure distributions were analyzed through the wind tunnel experiment to provide fundamental criteria for the structural design on the three-span arched house according to the wind directions. In order to investigate the wind force distribution, the variation of the wind force coefficients, the mean wind force coefficients, the drag force coefficients and the lift force coefficients were estimated from the experimental data. The results obtained are as follows : 1. The variation of the wind force with the wind directions on the side walls was the greatest at the upwind edge of the walls. The change of pressure from the positive to the negative on the side walls occurred at the wind direction of 30$^{\circ}$ in the first house and 60$^{\circ}$ in the third house. 2. The maximum negative wind force along the length of the roof appeared at the length ratio of 0-0.2, when the wind directions were 90$^{\circ}$ in the first house, 60$^{\circ}$ in the second house and 30$^{\circ}$ in the third house. 3. The maximum negative wind force along the width of the roof appeared at the width ratio and the wind direction of 0.4 and 0$^{\circ}$ in the first house, 0.4-0.6 and 30$^{\circ}$ in the second house and 0.6 and 30$^{\circ}$ in the third house, respectively. 4. The maximum mean positive and negative wind forces occurred at the wind direction of 60$^{\circ}$ and 30$^{\circ}$, respectively, on the side walls of the first house, and the maximum mean negative wind force on the roof occurred at the wind direction of 30$^{\circ}$ in third house. 5. The maximum drag and lift forces occurred at the wind direction of 30$^{\circ}$, and the maximum lift force appeared in the third house. 6. The parts to be considered for the local wind forces were the edges of the walls, the edges of the x-direction of the roofs, and the locations of the width ratio of 0.4 of the first and third house and the center of the width of the second house for the y-direction of the roofs.
Endwall losses contribute significantly to the overall losses in modern turbomachinery, especially when aerodynamic airfoil load and pressure ratio are increased. Hence, reducing the extend and intensity of the secondary flow structures helps to enhance overall efficiency. From the large range of viable approaches, a promising combination positioning and height of endwall contouring was chosen. The objective of this study is to document the three-dimensional flow in a turbine cascade in terms of streamwise vorticity, total pressure loss distribution and static pressure distribution on the endwall and blade surface and to propose an appropriate positioning and height of the endwall contouring which show best secondary, overall loss reduction among the simulated endwall. The flow through the gas turbine were numerically analyzed using three dimensional Navier-Stroke equations with a commercial CFD code ANSYS CFX-10. The result shows that the overall loss is reduced near the flat endwall rather than contoured endwall, and the case of contoured endwall installed at 30% from leading edge with height of 25% for span showed best performance.

Rollers and rolls in the continuous process systems are noes of key components that determine the quality of web products. The condition of rollers and rolls(ex. eccentricity wear) should be consistently monitored in order to maintain the process conditions (ex. tension, edge position) within a required specification. In this paper, a new diagnosis technique is suggested to detect the defect of rollers/rolls (ex. eccentricity, wear) based on frequency domain analysis of web tension signal. The kernel of this technique is to use the spectrum amplitude of tension signal which allows to identify the fault rollers/rolls and to also diagnose the degree of fault in corresponding rollers and rolls. The experimental results proved that the suggested diagnosis technique can be successfully used to identify the defect rollers and rolls as well as to diagnose the degree of the defect of those rollers. The suggested technique can be applied to monitor and diagnose the shape of rollers and rolls in various multi-span web transport systems.
