A Review on the Studies of the Societal Challenge and Technological Innovation ('사회문제 해결과 과학기술혁신' 연구의 현황과 과제)

  • This article reviews studies on the societal challenge and technological innovation. Technological innovation in response to social problems is a relatively recent topic of Innovation Studies. Socially-oriented innovations and policies are different in terms of the goals, innovation processes, and ecosystems when compared with industrial innovation. This study examines the existing research that discusses science and technology innovation from the viewpoint of solving societal problems and discusses the direction of future research. This paper presents major research issues on the characteristics of innovation in societal problem solving, innovation governance, roles and ecosystem of innovators, and relationship between societal problem solving policies and other policies.

Design and Performance Analysis of Ducted Propulsor for Underwater Robot (수중로봇용 덕트 추진기의 설계 및 성능해석)

  • Underwater robots are generally used for the construction of seabed structures, deep-sea ecosystem research, ocean energy development, etc. A ducted marine propulsor is widely used for the thruster of an underwater robot because of its collision protection, efficiency increase, cavitation reduction, etc. However, the flow of a ducted propeller is very complex because it involves strong flow interactions between the blade impeller and duct. The present work aimed to design a ducted propeller using 2-D strip theory and CFD analysis. The hydrodynamic forces (i.e. and ) were computed to set the local angle of attack in a spanwise direction of the propeller blade. After the propeller design, performance coefficients such as the thrust, torque, and efficiency were computed to check whether the designed performance was achieved. To validate the present analysis, the thrust was compared with experimental data and good agreement was obtained.

Development of ASEAN Network Model on Information Literacy

  • This study aimed at overviewing the situation of information literacy education and research in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) region, and developing an ASEAN network model on information literacy. This research used documentary and qualitative research methods. Key resources consisted of twenty bibliometric studies and related documents and two groups of key persons. The first group consisted of twenty-seven purposive key persons from eight countries, and the second group consisted of seven key persons from five countries. The research instruments comprised a data collection form and focus group/ interviewing forms. Data was collected by focus group discussion and online interviews, and qualitative content analysis was used in data analysis and presented descriptively. Research findings showed that: 1) information literacy education and research in the ASEAN region varied across countries and placed importance on the educational context. Singapore was found to be the most leading and productive country in ASEAN in information literacy with the highest number of journal articles on the international scale, and was among the most contributing groups at the regional and global level; 2) the ASEAN Network on Information Literacy (ASEAN-NIL) has been developed as a model with its principles, objectives, management system, activities, and promotion strategies. Its strengths are an integrated scope, multidimensional orientation, and interdisciplinary and collaborative partnerships at the national, regional, and international level, suitable for the ASEAN context, the online environment, and the digital educational ecosystem.

Turnover intention among dental hygienists in Korea: a systematic review and meta-analysis (한국 임상치과위생사의 이직의도 관련 요인에 대한 체계적 문헌고찰 및 메타분석)

  • Objectives: To identify the factors influencing the turnover intention of registered South Korean dental hygienists and analyze the effect sizes. Methods: Overall, 54 studies based on criteria of PICO from 1 January 2000 to 11 January 2022 were extracted. The factors related to turnover intention were applied to the ecological system theory and categorized. Subsequently, the effect size of the correlations was comprehensively meta-analyzed by dividing it into protective and risk factors depending on the negative or positive correlation direction. Results: For the overall effect size, the protective factor (ESr=-0.458) was higher than the risk factor (ESr=0.352). In the protective factors, organizational commitment and perceived organizational support belonging to the microsystem yielded the largest effect size. Furthermore, as for risk factors, burnout, job stress, work harassment, role conflict, and emotional labor belonging to the microsystem showed a moderate effect size. Conclusions: Factors belonging to the microsystem demonstrated a large effect size in both protection and risk factors for dental hygienists' turnover intention. Additionally, the factor showing the largest effect size was protective factor categorized into a microsystem.

  • With the advent of deep learning, Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology has experienced rapid advancements, extending its application across various industrial sectors. However, the focus has shifted from the independent use of AI technology to its dispersion and proliferation through the open AI ecosystem. This shift signifies the transition from a phase of research and development to an era where AI technology is becoming widely accessible to the general public. However, as this dispersion continues, there is an increasing demand for the verification of outcomes derived from AI technologies. Causal AI applies the traditional concept of causal inference to AI, allowing not only the analysis of data correlations but also the derivation of the causes of the results, thereby obtaining the optimal output values. Causal AI technology addresses these limitations by applying the theory of causal inference to machine learning and deep learning to derive the basis of the analysis results. This paper analyzes recent cases of causal AI technology and presents the major tasks and directions of causal AI, extracting patterns between data using the correlation between them and presenting the results of the analysis.

A Study on Intention to Adopt Digital Payment Systems in India: Impact of COVID-19 Pandemic

  • Digitalization and digital transformations have metamorphized the face of Financial Inclusion globally, more so, in cash obsessed economies like India. The purpose of our study is to empirically analyze the users' intention to adopt digital payment systems, post Demonetisation, during the COVID-19 pandemic in India. The conceptual framework for the study is based on the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT) adoption model with added operationalized constructs of Perceived Risk and Stickiness to use Cash. A total of 326 respondents were surveyed using a pre-tested questionnaire during the Nationwide Lockdown 3.0 in India. These responses were analyzed using Partial Least Squares - Structural Equation Modelling (PLS-SEM) technique. The findings of the study revealed that performance expectancy and facilitating conditions directly influence the intention of individuals to use digital payment systems, whereas the effect of perceived ease of use on digital payment systems is mediated through the attitude towards the digital payment systems during COVID-19 pandemic situation. Implications of the proposed adoption model are discussed. This will enable the other developing economies to formulate a digital ecosystem, that is here to stay even after the pandemic.

  • The objectives of this study is to Systematic literature review of internationalization of SMEs. Due to the economic characteristics of Korea, which depends on economic growth by exports, internationalization has become an essential management activity, not an option for SMEs. As a result, more than 400 studies related to the overseas expansion and internationalization of SMEs have been published in the past 20 years, focusing on major academic journals (such as KCI). Accordingly, the research trends used as advance research in internationalization research were analyzed of SMEs. Research targets were defined as the internationalization of SMEs and searched through 'RISS' (Research Information Sharing Service) as 'internationalization', 'global ', 'export', 'overseas expansion' and 'theory'. The analysis was carried out using a Systematic literature review. It was selected as the 76 studies and According to international research subjects and characteristics, the four areas of internationalization motive, process, outcomes, and support were analyzed. The results of the study confirmed that the most active research is focused on internationalization outcomes. This study could provide a support and the parties concerned in the ecosystem of SMEs in Korea with implications for the SMEs overseas market.

Explanatory Study on Online Shopping Mall Startup by Young Entrepreneurs (청년자영업자의 온라인쇼핑몰 창업에 관한 탐색적 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is by using the Grounded Theory method to examine the process of starting a business in an online shopping mall for young self-employed people with experience in using Company N's Partner Square (Gwangju), a startup infrastructure institution. In this study, in-depth interview survey data were used, and theoretical sampling method was used in the selection of study participants. After proceeding in the order of open coding, axis coding, and selective coding suggested by Strauss & Corbin, it was analyzed with a paradigm model. The main research results are as follows. First, even when parents were unaware about online shopping malls or had a negative mindset about it, but they had a positive mindset about their children's start-ups, it was found that their children tended to start online shopping mall businesses. However, if parents had a negative mindset about online shopping malls and about their children's start-up, then the child could not start an online shopping mall business. Second, it was found that the ability to use online shopping malls is important as a condition for entrepreneurship and achievement in online shopping malls for young people. In particular, Partner Square (Gwangju) was found to increase the ability to use online shopping malls and positively influence startups in online shopping malls. Third, it was found that young people have increased their self-esteem, discovering opportunities, and reinforcing their creativity, in addition to simply increasing their sales after starting the online shopping mall.

Principles and Applications of Multi-Level H2O/CO2 Profile Measurement System (다중 수증기/이산화탄소 프로파일 관측 시스템의 원리와 활용)

  • The multi-level profile system is designed to measure the vertical profile of $H_2O$ and $CO_2$ concentrations in the surface layer to estimate the storage effects within the plant canopy. It is suitable for long-term experiments and can be used also in advection studies for estimating the spatial variability and vertical gradients in concentration. It enables the user to calculate vertical fluxes of water vapor, $CO_2$ and other trace gases using the surface layer similarity theory and to infer their sources or sinks. The profile system described in this report includes the following components: sampling system, calibration and flow control system, closed path infrared gas analyzer(IRGA), vacuum pump and a datalogger. The sampling system draws air from 8 inlets into the IRGA in a sequence, so that for 80 seconds air from all levels is measured. The calibration system, controlled by the datalogger, compensates for any deviations in the calibration of the IRGA by using gas sources with known concentrations. The datalogger switches the corresponding valves, measures the linearized voltages from the IRGA, calculates the concentrations for each monitoring level, performs statistical analysis and stores the final data. All critical components are mounted in an environmental enclosure and can operate with little maintenance over long periods of time. This report, as a practical manual, is designed to provide helpful information for those who are interested in using profile system to measure evapotranspiration and net ecosystem exchanges in complex terrain.

Towards Intercultural Christian Education: A Christian Educational Response to Multicultural Phenomenon in the South Korean Context (상호문화적 기독교교육: 한국의 다문화현상에 대한 기독교교육적 응답)

  • In South Korea which has become a multicultural society, ethnic and cultural others have suffered from discrimination against them and isolation from society. Multicultural policies and multicultural public education have simply focused on the assimilation of cultural others without providing opportunities to build a reciprocal relationship between Kor eans and cultural others. Noting this reality, this paper proposes intercultural Christian education as a prophetic and educational role of faith communities in society. Intercultural education, intercultural theology, Miroslav Volf's drama of embrace, and Sang-Jin Park's theory of the ecosystem of Christian education offer theoretical foundations for intercultural Christian education. Based on these foundations, the paper discusses the definition and goal of intercultural Christian education and argues for the roles of intercultural Christian education to help Christ ians "SEE" the self, the other, and the community through self-reflection, embrace, and ecological transformation. As intercultural Christian education pursues to nurture Christians to have a respectful and hospitable mindset toward cultural others, such education will help faith communities seek a multi-colored kingdom of God.
