  • This is a study on how to create an ecological arboretum that would promote biodiversity by creating wild animal habitats in terms of using large-scale remnants in urban areas and that would serve as a field for environment education based on its locational feature of being an urban area and its accessibility. This study is significant in a sense that this is the first arboretum to be created in urban area. However, it has a couple of limitations and they are as follows. First, since an arboretum creation plan is a mid/long-term plan, it is difficult to verify the biodiversity promotion effect of the application of habitats and creation techniques. Second, as the space was created by considering ecological features and utilizing natural prototype, the diversity of forest trees in here is lower than that of a traditional arboretum.

  • The objective of this study is to interpret a typical Korean traditional settlement for searching for planning criteria of ecological friendly housing estates. The interpreting framework is five environmental ecological ideas as the adaptation to the exterior of village, the eco-space in village, the interior of house, the cycling of material and the reasonable energy system, prevention of environment pollution and reduction of wastes. Through the interpretation, it has been found out that Bang chon village has been developed to an environmental ecological rational setting and has the meaningful elements for environmental friendly housing estates. Particularly, the spatial components of Bang-chon are characterized by the concept of multi-function, and diversity, which are worth of being considered as important planning of ecological friendly housing estates.

  • It is well known that urban environment affects climate, as we can see in the quality of bio-climate. However, climate has not been recognised properly in the urban planning process. The role it flays needs to be examined for better urban environment. The main objective of this study is to investigate the climate-ecological priority area which produces cold fresh air and thermal induced wind circulation between rural and urban areas. The objective is also to improve the quality of bio-climate and wind circulation at blocked urban areas. This paper uses the measurement and analysis method of wind direction and wind speed in order to investigate the climate-ecological priority area and cold fresh air corridor. In this study, local climate conditions i.e. wind speed, wind direction, temperature, humidity etc., were measured at nine fields and analyzed. On the basis of the climate measurement, the climate ecological priority areas were delineated; These will be assigned as climate-ecological conservation areas.

  • Identifying the distribution of species and specific factors related to it is very important because it is habitat conservation that is greatly linked not only to ecological research but also to human health. After all, protecting each one's habitat will protect wildlife and further maintain a healthy ecosystem. Therefore, in this study, data were collected, compared, and analyzed through existing studies and field-oriented surveys. The results of the survey confirmed high species diversity in agricultural areas and forest areas that can reduce moisture supply and moisture loss, and the non-segmental environment, that is, ecological connectivity, was largely influenced by amphibian species diversity. It was confirmed that the non-fragmented environment, that is, ecological connectivity, was greatly affected by amphibian species diversity. In addition, the three factors that affect amphibian survival are: It was identified as the effect of not establishing a buffer space, the effect on the ecological transformation around the habitat during the summer rainy season, and the effect on the disconnected ecological environment.

  • An apartment complex is a building use with great potential to contribute to solving problems related to urban ecological environment and climate change. The first goal of this study is to grasp the current situation of application and limitations of the ecological area rate, which is a representative evaluation index used to evaluate the environmental performance of the external space of an apartment complex in Green Standard for Energy and Environmental Design (G-SEED). The second goal is to propose a prototype of the evaluation index for evaluating greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction performance in order to supplement the evaluation index for the environmental performance of the external space in terms of response to climate change. We analyzed 43 cases of apartment complexes certified according to G-SEED, which was enforced since July 1, 2010, and found application characteristics of each space type and the limitations of ecological area rate. We analyzed overseas green building certification systems such as LEED and BREEAM that derived implications for supplementing the limitations of ecological area rate, which is focused on the evaluation of soil and water circulation function, and set up a development direction of complementary measures. Through analysis of previous studies, relevant regulations and standards, and technical documents of the manufacturer, the heat island mitigation performance of the pavement and roof surfaces of the apartment complex and the carbon uptake performance of the trees in the apartment complex was selected as parameters to yield the GHG reduction performance of the external space of the apartment complex. Finally, a quantitative evaluation method for each parameter and a prototype of the evaluation index for the GHG reduction performance were proposed. As a result of applying the prototype to an apartment complex case, the possibility of adoption and applicability as an evaluation index of G-SEED were proved.

  • Ordination and classification techiques were used to analyze the forest communities and to examine the integration problem of community-to-ecological species group in mt. moak provincial park of korea. phytosociological classiication based on floristic composition produced seven commuities of zelkova serrata, carpinus densiflora. These seven communities were well discriminated in the two-dimensional analyses of soil moisture, soil organic matter content and temperature(elevation), eciprocally, and in three-dimensional space of the three environmental factors also. They corresponded to seven ecological groups derived from the distribution pattern analysis of species populations in this mountain.

  • As the environmental paradigm is the major issue today, the guideline of the ecological design in the interior architectural field is needed. One on the knowledge necessary to plan the ecological interior architecture as a designer is the spectification related factors for planning, which should be applied in materialistic matters. In this paper, the knowledge of materials and products needed to design interior space considering the ecological factors is studied. And, a guideline for the eco-design is investigated for the expression of the environmentally friendly perception.

  • There are several methods for building optimal eco-villages in a narrow territory. To derive a new optimal eco-village factors by combining environmental factors from ubiquitous sensor network and topography factors, this study attempted to investigate ecological spaces of specific human settlements, to compare those with the spatial analytical results on natural real settlements, and to draw a construction plan for an optimal ecological village. This study presented a new milestone for building eco-villages in the large or small village units of the entire country in the fact that we can find a living space to make natural healing possible by integrating ecological factors and wellbeing spatial configuration using more healthy natural space. Also, this study proposed a practical method to do so.
