An experimental study on the behavior of Steel Fiber Reinforced Concrete Columns under eccentric compression are presented. Forth-one columns were tested; the variables were column type, eccentricity of load, fiber contents, and longitudinal reinforcement ratio. The column size was $250\times160$ mm in cross section with an effective length of 1150 mm. Eccentricity of load was varied in the range from 1/6 to 1/2 times the column depth. This paper is to provides a framework for basic understanding of the steel fiber concrete columns.
This paper reports an experimental investigation of the behaviour of concrete-encased composite columns subjected to short-term axial load and biaxial bending. In the study, six square and four L-shaped cross section of both short and slender composite column specimens were constructed and tested to examine the load-deflection behaviour and to obtain load carrying capacities. The main variables in the tests were considered as eccentricity of applied axial load, concrete compressive strength, cross section, and slenderness effect. A theoretical procedure considering the nonlinear behaviour of the materials is proposed for determination of the behaviour of eccentrically loaded short and slender composite columns. Two approaches are taken into account to describe the flexural rigidity (EI) used in the analysis of slender composite columns. Observed failure mode and experimental and theoretical load-deflection behaviour of the specimens are presented in the paper. The composite column specimens and also some composite columns available in the literature have been analysed and found to be in good agreement with the test results.
The behavior of eccentrically loaded steel column base plates is investigated experimentally and analytically. A total of 8 test specimens are fabricated and tested. The effects of eccentricity and thickness of baseplate on the behavior of base plates are investigated. Analytical study is performed using the Finite Element Analysis Program ANSYS 8.1 to investigate distribution of bearing pressure. The results from to the distribution of bending strain of the base plate. However, the distribution of the bearing pressure obtained from the analysis is different from that assumed in the current design method. The results from the analysis show that the bearing pressures of the baseplate are concentrated under the compressively stressed column flange, as the eccentricity is increased. Also the results from the analysis are different from the results of design using the existing design method and the design method according to the AISC-Steel Design Guide.
In this study, an experimental study is performed to understand the effect of spalling on the structural behavior of fire damaged steel reinforced high strength concrete (SRHSC) columns, and the test results of temperature distributions and the displacements at elevated temperature are analyzed. Toward this goal, three long columns are tested to investigate the effect of various test parameters on structural behavior during the fire, and twelve short columns are tested to investigate residual strength and stiffness after the fire. The test parameters are mixture ratios of polypropylene fiber (0 and 0.1 vol.%), magnitudes of applied loads (concentric loads and eccentric loads), and the time period of exposure to fire (0, 30, 60 and 90 minutes). The experimental results show that there is significant effect of loading on the structural behaviors of columns under fire. The loaded concrete columns result more explosive spalling than the unloaded columns under fire. In particular, eccentrically loaded columns are severely spalled. The temperature distributions of the concrete are not affected by the loading state if there is no spalling. However, the loading state affects the temperature distributions when there is spalling occurred. In addition, it is found that polypropylene fiber prevents spalling of both loaded and unloaded columns under fire. From these experimental findings, an equation of predicting residual load capacity of the fire damaged column is proposed.

The demand for skyscrapers is increasing worldwide. Until now, various lateral resistance structures have been used for lateral displacement control of high-rise buildings. An outrigger damper system has been introduced recently to improve lateral dynamic response control performance further. However, a study of outrigger damper system is yet to be sufficiently investigated. In this study, time history analysis was performed to investigate the control performance of an outrigger damper system of high-rise building under eccentric loading. To do this, an actual scale 3-dimensional tall building model with an outrigger damper system was prepared. The control performance of the outrigger damper system was evaluated by varying stiffness and damping values. On the top floor torsional angle response to the earthquake load, was greatly affected by damping value. And the displacement response was affected greatly by the stiffness value and damping value of damper system. In conclusion, it is necessary to select the proper damping and stiffness values of the outrigger damper system.
In this study, stub columns subjected to concentrical and eccentrical loads were tested to check the applicability of the current local stability criteria (KBC2009, AISC2005) to 800MPa high-strength steel (HSA800). The key test variables in the concentrically loaded tests included the plate-edge restraints and the width-to-thickness ratio normalized by the yield strength of steel. Specimens made of ordinary steel (SM490) were also tested for comparative purposes. Eccentrically loaded stub column tests were conducted for a range of the P-M combinations by controlling the loading eccentricity. All the concentrically loaded specimens with non-compact and slender sections developed sufficient strengths according to the current local stability criteria. All the eccentrically loaded specimens with non-compact H sections also exhibited a sufficient P-M interaction strength that was even higher than that of compact H- section counterparts. Residual stresses were also measured by using the non-destructive indentation method to demonstrate their dependency or independency on the steel material's yield strength. The measured results of this study also indicated that the magnitude of residual stresses bears no strong relation to the yield strength of the steel material.

The joint of prefabricated steel grid composite deck is composed of concrete shear key and high-tension bolts. The flexural and shear strength of the joint were experimentally evaluated only by the bending and push-out test of the joint element. In this study the lateral load transfer behavior of the joint in deck structure system is experimentally evaluated. Several decks connected by the joint are prefabricated and loaded centrically and eccentrically. In the case of centrically loaded specimens, the analysis results show that for the same loading step the rotation angle of the joint with 4 high-tension bolts is larger than the case of the joint with 9 high-tension bolts. Consequently, flexural stiffness of deck and lateral load transfer decrease in the case of specimen with 4 high-tension bolts. But, in the case of eccentrically loaded specimens, it is found that there are no significant differences in the load transfer behavior. The further analysis results about the structural behavior of the joint show that lateral load transfer can be restricted by the load bearing capacity of the joint as well as punching shear strength of the slab. Furthermore, considering that high-tension bolts in the joint didn't reach to the yielding condition until the punching shear failure, increase in the number of high-tension bolts from 4 to 9 has a greater effect on the flexural stiffness of the joint and deck system than the strength of them.

To investigate the long-term behavior of eccentrically loaded RC columns, which are more realistic in practice than concentrically loaded RC columns, long-term eccentric loading tests were conducted for 10 RC columns. Test parameters included concrete compressive strength, reinforcement ratio, bar yield strength, eccentricity ratio, slenderness ratio, and loading pattern. Test results showed that the strain and curvature of the columns increased with time, and concrete forces were gradually transferred to longitudinal bars due to the creep and shrinkage of concrete. The long-term behavior of the columns varied with the test parameters, and long-term effects were more pronounced in the case of using the lower strength concrete, lower strength steel, lower bar ratio, fewer loading-step, higher eccentricity ratio, and higher slenderness ratio. However, in all the columns, no longitudinal bars were yielded under service loads at the final measuring day. Meanwhile, the numerical analysis modeling using the ultimate creep coefficient and ultimate shrinkage strain measured from cylinder tests gave quite good predictions for the behavior of the columns.
An eccentrically-loaded single edge crack tension specimen (ESET) is similar to a compact tension(CT) specimen loaded in tension-tension. The standard ESET specimen exhibits advantages over other types of cracked specimen, such as n, single-edge crack, and middle-crack tension specimen. The details of ESET specimen configuration, test procedure, and calculations are described in ASTM E647 standard. However, a difficulty in attaching COD gage to the knife-edge on the front foe of the specimen can be found when the size of ESET specimen is small for rapid cooling and heating in thermal fatigue testing. The finite element analysis is performed for the ESET specimen with projected knife-edge on the front foe and a crack-length-compliance equation is suggested for the new specimen configuration. Calibration test are conducted with 347 stainless steel to compare the measured crack length with the calculated crack length from the suggested compliance expression. The test results showed good agreements with those of analysis.
It is well understood that concentrated forces applied in the plane of a beam or panel (such as a wall or slab) lead to splitting forces developing within a disturbed region forming beyond the bearing zone. In a linearly elastic material the length of the disturbed region is approximately equal to the depth of the member. In concrete structures, however, the length of the disturbed region is a function of the orthotropic properties of the concrete-steel composite. In the detailing of steel reinforcement within the disturbed regions two limit states must be satisfied; strength and serviceability (in this case the serviceability requirement being acceptable crack widths). If the design requires large redistribution of stresses, the member may perform poorly at service and/or overload. In this paper the results of a plane stress finite element investigation of concentrated loads on reinforced concrete panels are presented. Two cases are examined (i) panels loaded concentrically, and (ii) panels loaded eccentrically. The numerical investigation suggests that the bursting force distribution is substantially different from that calculated using elastic design methods currently used in some codes of practice. The optimum solution for a uniformly reinforced bursting region was found to be with the reinforcement distributed from approximately 0.2 times the effective depth of the member ($0.2D_e$) to between $1.2D_e$ and $1.6D_e$. Strut and tie models based on the finite element analyses are proposed herein.
