본 연구의 목적은 2013년에 방영된 '조기영어교육 열풍, 신음하는 아이들' 시사다큐멘터리의 서사구조를 Chatman(2003)의 모형으로 분석하는 것이다. 통합체 분석을 위해 사건의 전개에 초점을 맞추어 이야기의 내용 흐름을 탐색하고, 계열체 분석을 통해서는 텍스트에 잠재되어 있는 이항대립 구조를 분석했다. 해당 방송은 '균형-혼란-재균형'의 서사 구조를 바탕으로, 영어 몰입교육 금지에 따른 혼란의 상황이 영어 사교육 시장을 확장시켰으며, 학생들의 영어학습이 점점 앞당겨지는 상황이 발생했고, 그로 인해 새로운 해결책을 모색할 수밖에 없다는 내용으로 전개시켰다. 그러나 조기 영어교육의 열풍을 유발했다는 정부의 목소리는 제대로 등장하지 않고, 피해자로 위치화된 학생들의 모습도 구체적으로 묘사되어 있지 않은채, 학부모, 사립초등학교 관계자, 영어학원 관계자들이 조기 영어교육의 열풍과 영어 몰입교육의 행위를 유발하는 핵심 주체로 등장하고 있다. 또한 조기 영어교육 열풍을 잠재울 해결안으로 정서적 단면, 교수 방법적 차이 등을 다루면서 보다 중층적인 진단과 대안을 모색하지 못했다.

The purpose of this study was to develop an appropriate scale for evaluating early years children's English textbooks and to confirm the validity and reliability for the scale thus developed. The scale was administered to 563 Korean early childhood English teachers. Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) of the 24 item scale demonstrated Cronbach' ${\alpha}$ = .94 for internal consistency of the total items. Confimatory Factor Analysis (CFA) supported a four-factor structure. Cross-Validation for the retest accepted the four-factors. Those four factors were as follows; Contents & Organization as factor 1, Illustrations & Designs as factor 2, Materials & Topics, as factor 3 and Objectives as factor 4. The author suggests that these afore mentioned factors will prove to be most useful for evaluating the children's English textbooks which are apparently published in an often quite indiscriminant manner.

본고는 광주광역시 남구의 어린이집에 자녀를 보내고 있는 학부모들을 대상으로 초등학교 취학 전 아동의 조기영어교육에 대한 부모의 인식과 실태를 통해 바람직하고 효과적인 조기영어교육을 마련하기 위한 기초적인 자료를 얻는데 목적을 두고 첫째, 광주광역시 남구지역의 조기영어교육에 관한 학부모들의 인식을 조사하여 문제점을 살펴보고 효율적인 방향을 제시한다. 둘째, 현재 조기영어교육이 행해지고 있는 어린이집에 자녀를 보내는 학부모님들에게 설문지를 배포하여 조기영어교육에 관한 인식을 조사했다, 이조사를 바탕으로 조기영어 교육의 올바른 교육방향을 제시하는데 목적이 있다.

Recently, early childhood education in England has experienced a significant level of government intervention including reforms for improving it. This study examines to what extent new Labour government initiatives impact preschool education in England and how effectively the English government implements its preschool education policies. This empirical study uses a combination of methods, including documentary analysis, questionnaire, and observation. Findings show that recent English government policy, especially the introduction of a national preschool curriculum framework combined with an inspection process and funding mechanism, appears to have had a strong influence on preschool practices.

본 연구는 1990년부터 2008년까지 8개의 유아교육 및 아동학 관련학회지에 발표된 영어교육/이중언어 관련 논문을 37편의 연구대상, 방법, 주제, 변인의 일반적인 경향을 살펴보았다. 또한 이러한 연구들이 가설 검증을 통해 경험적으로 도달한 결론들을 무엇인지 분석하였다. 그 결과, 유아교육/아동학계에서 가장 관심 있게 다루어진 주제들은 영어교육 경험과 유아의 발달, 유아기 영어교육 실태 및 인식, 그리고 영어교육프로그램의 개발 및 효과임을 알 수 있었다. 그러나 가정환경변인과 영어교육/이중언어 발달을 다룬 연구는 소수에 그쳤으며, 이른바 '영어유치원'을 적극적으로 탐색한 연구는 한 편도 없었다. 경험적으로 증명된 결론들을 요약하면, 이중언어 아동들의 언어발달의 양상은 단일언어 아동과는 약간 다를 수 있으나 일정한 연령에 도달하면 단일언어 아동과 유사한 언어능력을 갖게 되는 것으로 보고되었다. 또한 외국어로 유아교육기관에서 영어를 배울 경우 연령이 높은 아동들이 어린 아동들보다 영어와 관련된 정보를 더 잘 처리하여 결론적으로 영어학습의 효과가 크게 나타났다. 유아기 때의 영어교육경험이 초등학생들의 영어능력에 미치는 장기적 영향은 관련 연구부족으로 아직 미지수이다. 유아교육기관에서 쉽게 접할 수 있는 교수 매체를 이용한 영어교육프로그램의 개발과 효과검증연구가 여러 편 이루어졌고, 모두 대상프로그램이 어느 정도 효과적이었다고 주장하고 있다. 그러나 연구 설계나 방법이 엄정한 과학적 연구기준에 미치지 못하는 경우가 있으므로 연구결과에 해석에 주의를 요한다. 외국어로서의 영어교육연구와 이중언어발달 연구에서 공통적으로 주장하는 바는 하나 이상의 언어에 노출된 경험은 유아들의 상위언어발달에 긍정적인 영향을 준다는 것이다.

This study examines the current state of English education in private kindergartens in Korea. Among 1700 kindergarten teachers surveyed for this research, 680 replied that their institutions provided English lessons for children. Analyses of the data collected from these 680 teachers showed : 1) They started to teach English not because of educational considerations but because of pressure from children's parents or kindergarten principals; 2) Most of the English teachers were part-time instructors specially recruited for English lessons. Generally, English lessons were given two or three times a week, with one session lasting for about 20 minutes. A variety of teaching methods and materials were used for the lessons given to children aged three to five. Focus of the lessons was given to listening and speaking words and sentences; 3) Most of the teachers considered the scarcity of qualified English instructors as the most serious problem for providing English education in kindergartens, and they did not want to teach English themselves. They evaluated positively the performance and role of Korean part-time English instructors. The evaluations were generally poor as to native speakers serving as kindergarten English teachers.

본 연구는 유아 영어교육에서 유아의 음소인식과 음철법 향상을 위한 학습 효과를 극대화하기 위해 유아의 학습에 대한 흥미와 동기부여에 유용한 교육 자료를 연구하고 그 효용성을 검증하는 데 목적이 있다. 스토리 캐릭터 파닉스를 활용한 수업이 유아영어의 음소인식과 음철법에 미치는 영향을 검증하고 스토리 캐릭터 파닉스 학습을 적용하여 효율적인 음소인식과 음철법 능력 향상 방안을 제시하고자 한다. 본 연구는 충청남도 G시 S유치원 유아 24명을 실험집단과 비교집단으로 선정하여 2016년 3월부터 5주간 주3회 30분, 총 15차시로 실시했다. 스토리 캐릭터 파닉스가 음소인식과 음철법에 미치는 영향을 분석한 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 실험집단과 비교집단은 동질집단으로 15차시에 걸친 수업 후, 스토리 캐릭터 파닉스를 활용한 집단의 음철법과 음소인식 영역의 점수가 통계적으로 유의미하게 높았다. 둘째, 유아들은 스토리 캐릭터 파닉스로 활용한 수업을 통해 학습 흥미도가 높아진 것을 알 수 있었다.

본 연구는 부산시에 소재하는 어린이집 원장과 교사의 영아조기영어교육에 대한 인식과 실태를 알아보는 것을 목적으로 어린이집 원장 108명과 교사 241명을 대상으로 설문조사를 실시하였다. 수집된 자료는 SPSS 12.0 통계프로그램을 사용하여 빈도분석, $X^2$ 검증, 교차분석을 실시하였으며, 연구결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 영아조기영어교육의 교육목표, 교육내용, 교육방법, 적합한 교사, 교사의 자질, 개선점에 대한 원장과 교사의 인식은 차이가 없었으며, 적합한 교재, 어린이집 교육과의 관계에 대한 인식은 차이가 있었다. 둘째, 어린이 집의 영아조기영어교육의 실태를 살펴 본 결과 실시하게 된 계기는 원장의 교육관에 의해서라는 응답이 가장 많았으며, 실시방법은 간단한 회화 중심으로 주 1~2회 정도로 횟수로 실시하고 있는 곳이 가장 많았다. 본 연구 결과는 영아조기영어교육의 활성화를 위한 기초자료로 활용될 수 있을 것으로 기대한다.

본 연구는 유아기 자녀를 둔 북한이탈주민 어머니의 영어교육에 대한 실태와 어려움을 알아보는 것이 목적이다. 연구대상은 유아기 자녀를 둔 북한이탈주민 201명이며, 영어교육의 실태에 대한 설문지와 심층면담을 통해 자료를 수집하고 분석하였다. 연구결과, 첫째, 대부분의 북한이탈주민 어머니는 자녀에게 영어교육을 실시하고 있었으며, 만 3세 이전에 영어교육을 시작하는 경우가 많았다. 영어교육을 시키는 가장 주된 이유는 같은 또래들이 영어교육을 받고 있기 때문인 경우가 많았다. 자녀의 영어교육을 위한 도움제공은 10분 미만이 가장 많았고, 유아 혼자 복습을 하게하거나, 숙제를 강조하는 경우가 많은 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 북한이탈주민 어머니들이 자녀에게 영어교육을 시킬 때의 어려움은 비용부담, 정보부족, 영어교육을 시킬 시간부족, 불만족스러운 영어교육 순으로 나타났다. 자녀의 한 달 영어교육비용은 3만원 미만이라는 응답이 가장 많았으며, 영어교육을 위한 지출은 가계에 부담이 된다는 응답이 많았다.

Background: Breast and cervical cancers are significant causes of mortality and morbidity for Asian women, and poor English-speaking ability is a barrier to cancer prevention practices. Materials and Methods: This project tested relationships among English-speaking ability and early detection practices regarding to breast and cervical cancer among female Chinese immigrants. A descriptive cross-sectional survey was used. Results: 175 female Chinese immigrants completed the survey in the breast cancer prevention section, and 35 of them also completed the cervical cancer prevention section. Some 63% of them had heard about the clinical breast exam (CBE), but only 54% had had a CBE. While 46% of the participants were aware of their need for a Pap smear, only 31% had heard about it and had undergone a pelvic exam. Conclusions: English-speaking ability was strongly associated with immigrant women's knowledge of female cancer early detection. Culturally and linguistic issues should be considered as the first step to access immigrant population in designing future education intervention.
