  • Purpose - The study's aim is to assess performance quality delivered through a performance management system. The case study first measures the effectiveness of the present performance management system of Bhushan Steel Ltd. (BSL), and then secondarily analyzes the employee training impact. Research design, data, and methodology - A case study research approach using a survey was followed. The final sample size was 50, with a simple random sampling technique used. Primary data came from the company itself and the secondary from books, the Internet, journals, etc. Results - BSL employee appraisals are used for many developmental aspects such as competence in the present job, improvements, performance development, and training needs. The results indicate that individual performance can improve if employees perceive the system as more transparent (i.e., not so confidential). Conclusions - Overall, the BSL employees think that the company appraisal system is useful; however, to make it better the company has to improve many aspects including appraisals based on supervisor observations. The company could use a self-appraisal and a 360-appraisal approach to improve such assessments.

  • Unlike most print resources such as magazines and journals that go through an filtering process (e.g. editing, peering review), information in world Wide Web and Internet is mostly unfiltered. Using and citing information found over Web may not be reliable or authoritative. Therefore it is necessary to develop skills to evaluate what we found on the net. Fifteen evaluation documents for WWW are collected, analyzed from digital sources of U. S. academic libraries and common criteria for evaluating WWW resources are developed. Also several practical steps were made to overcome the quality problems.

  • Seismic resilience (SR) plays a vital role in evaluating and improving performance losses along with saving repair costs of structures from potential earthquakes. To further explore the developments, hotspots, and trend directions of SR, a total of 901 articles are obtained from the Web of Science (WoS) database. CiteSpace software is used to conduct a bibliometric analysis, which indicates an upward trend of publications in SR and explores the relationship of countries, journals, cited references, and keywords based on visual maps and detailed tables. Then, based on the results of the bibliometric analysis, a state-of-the-art review is conducted to further explore the current challenges and trend directions of SR. The trend directions can be divided into five categories: (a) SR assessments of infrastructure structures, (b) multi-hazard quantifications of SR, (c) seismic resilient structures, (d) refining and calibrating analytical models, and (e) multi-criteria decision-making frameworks for sustainability and SR.

  • A Meta-analysis refers to a statistical literature synthesis method from the quantitative results of many known empirical studies. Recently, the convergence of knowledge-based society and, information telecommunication technologies has a rapid impact on politics, economics and various fields. A meta-analysis was conducted to identify the relationships among satisfaction, trust, and loyalty in e-commerce studies. A total of 57 research papers published in Korean academic journals during 2002 and 2013 were reviewed and the causal relationships among satisfaction, trust, and loyalty in e-commerce were established. The result of the meta-analysis might be summarized that the highest effect size (r =. 591) was in the path from the satisfaction to the trust. The second biggest effect size (r =. 554) was found in the path between the satisfaction to the loyalty. The third biggest effect size (r =. 552) was found in the path between the trust to the loyalty. By the way, the smallest effect size (r =. 484) was found in the path between the trust to the satisfaction.

  • A Meta-analysis refers to a statistical literature synthesis method from the quantitative results of many known empirical studies. Recently, the convergence of knowledge-based society and information telecommunication technologies has a rapid impact on politics, economics and various fields. We conducted a meta-analysis and review of between perceived value, risk and behavioral intention on e-commerce researches. This study focused a total of 25 research papers that established causal relationships in between perceived value, risk and behavioral intention on e-commerce published in Korean academic journals during 2000 and 2014. The result of the meta-analysis might be summarized that the effect size in the path from the perceived value to the behavioral intention with the effect size 0.508. Also, it showed that the effect size in the path from perceived value to the behavioral intention with the effect size -0.251. Based on these findings, several theoretical and practical implications were suggested and discussed with the difference from previous researches.

  • Portfolio has recently come to gain more attention from school as an alternative evaluation tool and a self-reflective learning tool for learning. After literature reviews about the case studies on the use of portfolio in higher education including both universities in Korea and abroad, this study attempted, first, to analyze the current e-portfolio system running in Kyung Hee University for the undergraduate students starting from the spring semester, 2010, and then, suggested the ways the system can be more actively utilized among the students, and simultaneously, acquiring more interest and participation from both the faculty members and the school administrators. The data collected from the survey and reflective journals of the students suggested 1) more user-friendly, easy-to-edit version of the system, 2) more diverse modes and functions of the system which, therefore, are able to adjust well to the specific and unique features of subjects or majors of the students, and 3) collaborative learning environments among the students and between the students and the faculty members from which students can share, participate, interact with each other, getting useful feedback from those co-learners and faculty members. Eventually the study aimed to enhance the recognition of the participants about the importance of portfolio as a learning tool for self-reflective learning and authentic evaluation of the students.

  • This study aims to analyze the research trend of Korean medicine based on social network analysis. To do this, a dataset has been collected from KCI (Korea Citation Index) database. According to the results, we have identify the longitudinal trend of the number of papers, journals, organizations and key words in this field. Moreover, based on the nodes' centrality of co-author network, we have found a core journal (i.e. Korean Journal of Oriental Physiology and Pathology), a hub institution (i.e. Kyunghee university) and two main key words (i.e. anti-oxidation and acupuncture) in the research network. In conclusion, integrating field experts' tacit knowledge in Korean medicine studies with the results of the explicit social network analysis on the research trend, we put forward further policy implications with regard to R&D strategies in this field.

  • The purpose of this study is to design and develop a teaching-learning process plan for process-based assessment, focusing on the unit related to life design in middle school home economics(HE: Home Economics part of 「Technology and Home Economics」), to propose a feedback plan after implementing it, and to evaluate the plan through participatory observation and interviews. The student reflection journals, teacher's class journals, participatory observation journals, interviews, and performance tasks, were collected and analyzed to provide foundational date to be utilized for feedback to students, and class improvement. The research results are as follows: First, the developed teaching-learning process plan consists of a total of 8 sessions, i.e. 2 sessions for each of the four learning themes, under the practical question of "What should I do to live the life I want?" The portfolio was composed of five evaluation topics and for evaluation, oral presentation, observational evaluation, self-assessment, and peer evaluation were considered. Second, during the class, feedback from teachers, feedback from fellow students, feedback through results, and a plan to record them were provided. Third, from the analysis of collected data including observation journals and interviews, it was apparent that the students recognized the necessity of process-based assessment after the class, and students acknowledged that through the process-based evaluation in which they are evaluated on the efforts they made and provided with feedbacks, they participated more in class, and it lead them to experience a sense of growth and a feeling that they took a step forward into their future. Teachers suggested that the class through feedback was suitable for the unit and the capacity of the class, but the difficulty they experienced in giving feedback was presented as a disadvantage. For the process-based assessment, follow-up research is needed on various ways to provide feedback on-line and off-line through changes in the perception of assessment.
