How E-learning Business for Teens Has Evolved in Korea: The Case of MegaStudy

  • Since MegaStudy started e-learning business for Korean high school students, the Korean e-learning industry began to expand and steadily gain attention. This paper focused on the analysis of the development of the Korean e-learning business for teens and the growth of MegaStudy. The three institutional mechanisms were used to examine the factors that aided the development of the business. The regulatory mechanism was the government policy to prevent the expansion of the offline private education sector, which greatly aided the growth of the e-learning business. The mimetic mechanism was the notion to mimic the characteristics of the Korean e-business initiatives. The normative mechanism involved the widespread social norm suggesting that every student should be given an equal opportunity of private education. This paper also examined the case of MegaStudy as a successful case of the e-learning companies. It analyzed the business model of MegaStudy, which is based on its advantage as the front-runner and its high-quality contents and services.

A Conceptual Framework for Determination of Appropriate Business Model in e-Learning Industry in Iran

  • Purpose - The purpose of this study is to present a framework for determining the most appropriate business model for e-learning. Research design, data, and methodology - The Electronics Branch of Azad University has been elected as a case study in this research. This study conducted using a descriptive method. The information was obtained using interviews with experts including managers, faculty and students at the Electronics Branch of Azad University. Results - Three service-product system (product oriented system, use an oriented and result oriented system) approaches determined a framework for the formation of a portfolio. This portfolio is including three types of e-learning business models. Examining the relevant characteristics, correspondence of behaviorism learning theory with a product-oriented approach, correspondence of cognitivism theory with a user-oriented approach and in finally match correspondence of constructivist learning theory with a results-oriented approach which is evident. Conclusions - After reviewing the literature on the fields of e-learning, business model and product - service systems, we have achieved three types of e-learning business models. Then the variables in any of the business models were defined by using business model canvas tool and thus a portfolio consisting of three types of e-learning business model canvas was obtained.

  • 정보통신기술의 발달과 정보화사회라는 환경변화에 대응하여 웹을 이용한 온라인 교육이 기업교육의 새로운 방향으로 대두되고 있는 상황에서 본 연구는 서비스품질 이론과 심리학에서의 공동체의식 이론, 웹기반 원격교육의 효과요인에 관한 선행연구를 중심으로 기업의 e-Learning 교육효과에 영향을 미치는 요인들을 추출하고 e-Learning 서비스를 제공하는 기업의 사례를 중심으로 실증적 연구를 통해 관련 요인들간의 영향관계를 밝히고자 하였다. 연구결과 서비스 품질의 개인화. 학습공동체 특성인 감정적 유대감과 영향력 그리고 학습자 특성인 학습동기, 지각된 유용성, 지각된 사용용이성 등이 e-Learning 교육효과에 유의한 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났으며, 학습공동체 특성인 욕구의 통합과 충족은 e-Learning 교육효과에 부분적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다.

컨벤션 실무자 태도와 감정이 e-learning 교육성과에 미치는 영향 (E-Learning Impact on the Convention Business Settings Focusing on the Employees' Attitude and Emotion)

  • In this paper, we studied on the e-learning impact on the employees in the convention business, focusing on the employees' learning attitudes and emotion. Since the convention business is getting more attention especially in the culture and tourism industry, the employees in this convention setting are needed to reeducated periodically. We collect and test 126 employees who have studied some conventional education in e-learning. The findings of this research are that an employees' attitude and emotion have a significant positive effect on the achievement or success of the e-learning program. Based on this study, we discuss and suggests managerial implications for building e-learning context, with the consideration of the attitudes and emotion of the participants.

  • Many e-Learning companies are incorporated for the last five years, but most of them are failed or merged by the other company. The main reasons are the absence of competitive strategies and recognition of critical success factors. There are many researches on the critical success factors of Information System (IS) and Electronic Commerce (EC) . We derived e-Learning success factors from the previous IS and EC researches. We classified the success factors into five dimensions, (1) contents management, (2) learner management, (3) business strategy, (4) organizational support and ability, (5) learning management system (LMS), and each dimension has 9 or more success factors measurement items. We surveyed the perceived importance of the success factors from the manager of South Korea e-Learning firms. The paper categorized the items into two or more factors for each dimension by the exploratory factor analysis. Finally, we conducted one-way ANOVA for each success factors by the business model. As a result, there is different importance level for each success factors by the business model. We concluded that each e-Learning company needs different strategies to their business model.

  • 이러닝 인력이 부족한 문제점을 해결하기 위하여 본 연구에서는 이러닝을 위한 강사와 학습자가 쉽고 편하게 강의 콘텐츠를 거래할 수 있는 오픈마켓 형태의 개방형 교육 포털 시스템을 구현하여, 새로운 이러닝 비즈니스 모델을 제안한다. 그리고 기존의 이러닝 콘텐츠의 제작 과정은 매우 복잡하고 전문적인 기술을 필요로 함으로 많은 비용과 시간이 소요되었다. 이러한 문제점을 해결하기 위하여 본 연구에서는 강사 스스로 이러닝 강의 콘텐츠를 쉽게 제작할 수 있도록 해 주는 이러닝 콘텐츠 제작 시스템을 개발하였다. 본 연구에서 개발한 시스템의 유용성을 검증하기 위하여 이러닝 콘텐츠를 제작해본 경험이 있는 강사들을 대상으로 본 연구에서 개발한 시스템과 인기 있는 기존의 시스템들의 유용성에 대한 설문분석을 실시하였는데, 분석 결과 본 연구에서 개발한 군고구마 시스템이 유용한 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구는 기존에 콘텐츠 제작 및 서비스 업체 중심의 이러닝 비즈니스 모델이 아닌 강사와 학생 중심의 이러닝 비즈니스 모델을 제시해 줌으로써 이러닝 콘텐츠의 다양성 확보 그리고 이러닝 산업의 활성화에 기여를 할 것으로 예상된다.

The Nexus Between Factors Affecting eBook Acceptance and Learning Outcomes in Malaysia

  • This study aims to investigate factors affecting eBook acceptance and learning outcomes among students experiencing online distance learning. As conventional textbooks are now switched into eBooks, the effects of contextual factors including lecturer, student computer competency, content and design of the course, access ability, infrastructure, and university support on eBook acceptance and learning outcome needs to be evaluated. The sample of this study is represented by students at the Universiti Teknologi MARA, City Campus Melaka, undertaking 'strategic management course'. Non-probability random sampling was selected as the sampling technique and a purposive sampling method was chosen to select the samples. The samples comprised 171 students randomly selected through Google Form. The questionnaire data was analyzed by using PLS-SEM. The results indicated that these factors contributed 62.3% variations in the eBook acceptance and 67.1% variations in the learning outcomes. The strongest factor affecting both dependent variables was content and design of course. Managerial implication suggested that the content for all courses taught through the eBook platform needs to be revisited and improved in accordance with the mode of online deliverance. Tutorial on how to navigate the eBook platform is important to all users as this would enhance acceptance and produce better learning outcomes among students.

  • The recent development of IT, consolidation of communication and multimedia technology have brought enormous changes in many organizations. Theses changes are enabling the new educational opportunities such as distance teaming and virtual class room. Recently, e-Learning has grown rapidly in business training field, In the context of companies, e-Learning has merits in terms of access convenience, costs reduction self-directed learning, reciprocity, and flexibility. In this regard, the primary purpose of this study is to investigate which factors of e-Learning influence the effectiveness of education and transfer of loaming in business organizations. Based on the prior studies of the education and business training field, research model and research hypotheses were developed. Factors studied in this paper were as follows: 1) learners' characteristics, 2) organizational support and 3) system environments. The results of our study are as follows. (1) Motivation perceived usefulness in Learner factors had an significant influence on both learning effectiveness and transfer of teaming, whereas Ability, expectation had an influence on transfer of teaming. (2) Support from peer, support from supervisor in Organization factors had an significant influence on both Loaming effectiveness and transfer of teaming, whereas support from organization had influence on learning effectiveness. (3) Appropriate contents in system circumstance had an significant influence on both teaming effectiveness and transfer of teaming, whereas interface design had an influence on learning effectiveness.

  • 본 연구는 국내 e러닝 시장을 개척한 기업인 크레듀가 어떻게 시장 진입 기회를 포착하였으며 핵심역량 강화와 함께 어떻게 다각화를 추진하였는가를 실제 사례와 함께 학습자의 e러닝 학습동기유형을 분석하여 살펴보고 기업 차원에서 여러 가지 e러닝 기법들이 어떻게 발전해왔고, 또한 이것을 적용하는 방식에서 어떠한 대응이 필요했는지를 조사하였다. e러닝 시장에서 치열한 경쟁이 펼쳐지고 있는 가운데, 크레듀는 핵심역량을 유지하고 강화하기 위해 고객과 적극적인 의사소통 채널을 만들어 핵심 사업 분야에 대한 집중적인 투자를 단행하면서 학습자의 개인적 특성을 파악하고 학습동기유형에 대한 모델을 만들어 보다 모험적이고 실험적인 제품과 서비스를 출시해 e러닝 발전에 기여했으며 경쟁 우위를 유지할 수 있었다. 본 연구는 소비자의 e러닝 학습동기유형을 분류한 선도적인 연구일 뿐만 아니라 성공한 e러닝 기업의 사례를 통한 e러닝 시장의 개척과 확산 방안에 관한 기법을 소개함으로써 실무적인 측면에서 그 가치가 높을 것으로 기대한다.

Analysis of User Satisfaction with Collegiate E-Learning and its Determinants

  • The benefits of an e-learning system will not be maximized unless learners use the system. This study proposed and tested models that seek to explain students' satisfaction withe-learning systems. A survey was performed at a women's college in Korea, where students experimentally could choose to register one same course either through e-learning or class-room learning. The questionnaire was filled up by students who took e-learning option. independent variables include expected benefits, familiarity with technology, social influence, and accessibility. Dependent variables include the level of satisfaction, academic achievement, and the amount of the use of systems.
