Seismic responses of transmission tower-line system under coupled horizontal and tilt ground motion

  • Tests and theoretical studies for seismic responses of a transmission tower-line system under coupled horizontal and tilt (CHT) ground motion were conducted. The method of obtaining the tilt component from seismic motion was based on comparisons from the Fourier spectrum of uncorrected seismic waves. The collected data were then applied in testing and theoretical analysis. Taking an actual transmission tower-line system as the prototype, shaking table tests of the scale model of a single transmission tower and towers-line systems under horizontal, tilt, and CHT ground motions were carried out. Dynamic equations under CHT ground motion were also derived. The additional P-∆ effect caused by tilt motion was considered as an equivalent horizontal lateral force, and it was added into the equations as the excitation. Test results were compared with the theoretical analysis and indicated some useful conclusions. First, the shaking table test results are consistent with the theoretical analysis from improved dynamic equations and proved its correctness. Second, the tilt component of ground motion has great influence on the seismic response of the transmission tower-line system, and the additional P-∆effect caused by the foundation tilt, not only increases the seismic response of the transmission tower-line system, but also leads to a remarkable asymmetric displacement effect. Third, for the tower-line system, transmission lines under ground motion weaken the horizontal displacement and acceleration responses of transmission towers. This weakening effect of transmission lines to the main structure, however, will be decreased with consideration of tilt component.

  • In this study, structural vibration analyses of a composite smart unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) have been conducted considering dynamic hub-loads of tilt-rotor. Practical computational structural dynamics technique based on the finite element method is applied using MSC/NASTRAN. The present smart UAV(TR-S2) structural model is constructed as full 3D configurations with both the helicopter flight mode and the airplane flight mode. Modal based transient response and frequency response analyses are used to efficiently investigate vibration characteristics of structure and installed electronic equipments. It is typically shown that the helicopter flight mode with the 90-deg tilting angle is the most critical case for the induced vibration of installed electronic equipments in the front.

  • 재킷식 해양구조물인 울돌목 시험조류발전소에 대하여 장기 모니터링을 통하여 구조물 동적 응답을 계측하였으며, 계측된 동적 응답 중 저주파수 거동을 정밀하게 계측할 수 있는 동적 경사 응답을 이용하여 구조물의 고유주파수 및 모드감쇠비를 추정하고, 이와 같은 동특성이 조위와 조류 유속 등 외부 환경에 의하여 어떤 영향을 받는지를 분석하였다. 제한된 수의 응답 계측 자료로부터 구조물의 고유주파수 및 모드감쇠비를 정밀하게 추정하기 위하여 개선된 실험모드해석 방법인 LS-FDD 방법을 제안하였으며, 제안된 실험모드해석 기법을 이용하여 울돌목 시험조류발전소의 동적 경사 응답을 분석하여, 주요 3차모드의 고유주파수와 모드감쇠비를 정밀하게 추정하였다. 추정된 동특성은 시간에 따라 크게 변동하며, 이러한 변동은 조석의 영향을 지배적으로 받고 있음을 시계열 분석 및 주파수 분석을 통하여 알 수 있었다. 또한 울돌목 시험조류발전소에서 관측한 일정 기간의 조위 및 조류 유속 자료를 이용하여, 구조물의 동특성과 조류 자료 사이의 상관관계를 분석하였고, 조위 및 유속 자료만으로 구조물의 동특성을 예측할 수 있는 모델식을 결정하였다.

  • The switching mechanism of multi-domain vertical alignment mode LCD and delayed on response time phenomenon in special conditions are investigated. A modified DCC (Dynamic Capacitance Compensation), DCCII has been developed for the fast response time performance in PVA TFT-LCD TVs. DCCII applies a pre-tilt voltage to addressed pixels during the previous frame in addition to an overshoot voltage. In result, the response time less than 8 msec, has been obtained for all moving images through the DCCII technique.

  • The characteristics of a tilt sensor utilizing the resistance change of an electrolyte associated with inclination is investigated, and a dynamic compensation modeling is proposed to make the real-time measurement of the absolute slope possible even with sporadically dynamic motion. Although the proposed system is small, economical and accurate for quasi-steady slope measurement, since it contains a freesurface the evolution of the liquid surface that has no direct relation to the real slope must be excluded for any rapid rotations or translations. For various artificial motions the response of the sensor is analyzed and simplified modeling equations are proposed.

  • In this study, computational structural vibration analyses of a smart unmanned aerial vehicle (SUAV) with tilt-rotors due to dynamic hub loads have been conducted considering detailed supporting structures of installed equipments. Three-dimensional dynamic finite element model has been constructed for different fuel conditions and tilting angles corresponding to helicopter, transition and airplane flight modes. Practical computational procedure for modal transient response analysis is successfully established. Also, dynamic loads generated by rotating blades and wakes in the transient and forward flight conditions are calculated by unsteady computational fluid dynamics technique with sliding mesh concept. As the results of present study, transient structural displacements and accelerations of the vibration sensitive equipments are presented in detail. In addition, vibration characteristics of structures and installed equipments of which safe operation is normally limited by the vibration environment specifications are physically investigated for different flight conditions.

이어도해양과학기지 구조물 계측신호 분석 (Dynamic Response of Ieodo Ocean Research Station)

  • 이어도해양과학기지에 설치된 구조물 모니터링용 가속도계, 변형률계, 경사도계에서 계측한 동적신호를 분석하였다. 가속도 신호의 분석에서는 구조적 거동에 중요한 의미를 갖는 고유진동수를 도출할 수 있었으며 수치해석에서 얻은 고유진동수와 비교하였다. 변형률신호와 경사도신호도 함께 분석하여 동적응답의 현황도 파악하였다. 서로 다른 시점의 다양한 파고가 동특성에 미치는 영향도 분석하였다. 본 연구에서 축적한 이어도해양과학기지의 동특성은 추후 지속적인 모니터링을 통해 얻게 될 동특성과의 비교를 통해 구조물의 건전성과 노후도 및 손상정도를 파악하는데 이용될 수 있을 것이다.

Wind-induced response and loads for the Confederation Bridge -Part I: on-site monitoring data

  • This is the first of two companion papers that analyse ten years of on-site monitoring data for the Confederation Bridge to determine the validity of the original wind speeds and wind loads predicted in 1994 when the bridge was being designed. The check of the original design values is warranted because the design wind speed at the middle of Northumberland Strait was derived from data collected at shore-based weather stations, and the design wind loads were based on tests of section and full-aeroelastic models in the wind tunnel. This first paper uses wind, tilt, and acceleration monitoring data to determine the static and dynamic responses of the bridge, which are then used in the second paper to derive the static and dynamic wind loads. It is shown that the design ten-minute mean wind speed with a 100-year return period is 1.5% less than the 1994 design value, and that the bridge has been subjected to this design event once on November 7, 2001. The dynamic characteristics of the instrumented spans of the bridge including frequencies, mode shapes and damping are in good agreement with published values reported by others. The on-site monitoring data show bridge response to be that of turbulent buffeting which is consistent with the response predicted at the design stage.

Practical computational structural dynamics technique based on the finite element method is applied using MSC/NASTRAN. The present UAV(TR-S5-04) finite element model is constructed as a full three-dimensional configuration with different fuel conditions and tilting angles for helicopter, transient and airplane flight modes. In addition, the 3-dimensional supporting equipment structures of electronic devices are considered for vibration analysis. As the results of this study, transient structural displacements and accelerations are presented in detail. Moreover, vibration characteristics of structural parts and installed equipments are investigated for different fuel conditions and tilting angles.
