The dynamic response characteristics of Tension Leg Platforms(TLPs) in waves are examined for presenting the basic data for design of TLPs. The numerical approach is based on a combination of the three dimensional source distribution method and the dynamic response analysis method, in which the superstructure of TLP is assumed to be flexible instead of rigid. Restoring forces by hydrostatic pressure on the submerged surface of a TLP have been accurately calculated by excluding the assumption of the slender body theory. The hydrodynamic interactions among TLP members, such as columns and pontoons, and the structural damping are included in the motion and structural analysis. Numerical results are compared with the experimental ones, which are obtained in the literature, concerning the motion and tension responses of a TLP in waves. The results of comparison confirmed the validity of the proposed approach.
Transient analysis for compressible fluid flow has been performed experimentally and analytically to study the dynamic characteristics of the end volume transmission lines following a sudden pressure change a its entrance. The numerical method was developed based on the method of characteristics. The sudden pressure at its entrance was generated by rupture of diaphragm in a shock tube. The sudden pressure was used to obtain the response, as input signal for the numerical analysis. The response to the sudden pressure at the end volume was measured using a pressure transducer. The experimental result shows good agreements with the numerical result. The effects of tube length, its diameter and end volume magnitude are evaluated on the responses of the pressure and on the damping factor. It is found that the viscous damping effects on the response through the transmission pipeline becomes larger with increasing pi;eline length and decreasing diameter of the pipe and the fluid-elastic stiffness decreases with increasing the terminal volume. The numerical approach presented in this paper can be very useful in designing the instrument and control system.
In the present work, an approach for the multiple time probabilistic characterization of the response of linear structural systems subjected to random non-Gaussian processes is presented. Its fundamental property is working directly on the multiple time probability density functions of the actions and of the response. This avoids of passing through the evaluation of the response statistical moments at multiple time or correlations, reducing the computational effort in a consistent measure. This approach is the extension to the multiple time case of a previously published dynamic Probability Transformation Method (PTM) working on a single evolution of the response statistics. The application to some simple examples has revealed the efficiency of the method, both in terms of computational effort and in terms of accuracy.
Recently, the motor-integrated spindle spindle systems have been used to simplify the machine tool structure, to improve the motion flexibility of machine tool, and to perform the high-speed machining. In this study, a static and dynamic analysis system for motor-integrated high-speed spindle systems is developed based on Timoshenko theory, finite element method and windows programming techniques. Since the system has various analysis modules related to static deformation analysis, modal analysis, frequency response analysis, unbalance response analysis and so on, it is useful in performing systematically the design and evaluation processes of motor-integrated high-speed spindle systems under windows GUI encironment.

In the country where the population concentrates in the metropolis with the narrow land, development of th ocean space is necessary. Recently, mega-float offshore structure is studied as one of the effective utilization of the ocean space. And very large floating structure are now being considered for various applications such as floating airports, offshore cities and so on. This very large structure is relatively flexible compared with real floating structures like large ships. when we estimate dynamic responses of these structures in waves, the elastic deformation is important, because vertical dimension is small compared with horizontal. And it is necessary to examine the effect of ocean wave eternal force received from the natural environment. In this study, the mat-type large floating structure is made to be analytical model. And the analysis of the dynamic response as it receives regular wave is studied. The finite element method is used in the analysis of structure part of this model. And the analysis is carried out using the boundary element method in the fluid part. In order to know the characteristics of the dynamic response of the large floating structures, effects of wavelength, bending rigidity of the structure, water depth, and wave direction on dynamic response of the floating structure are studied by use of numerical calculation.
In large-scale problem, a huge size of computational resources is needed for a reliable solution which represents the detailed description of dynamic behavior. Recently, eigenvalue reduction schemes have been considered as important technique to resolve computational resource problems. In addition, the efforts to advance an efficiency of reduction scheme leads to the development of the multi-level system condensation (MLSC) which is initially based on the two-level condensation scheme (TLCS). This scheme was proposed for approximating the lower eigenmodes which represent the global behavior of the structures through the element-level energy estimation. The MLSC combines the multi-level sub-structuring scheme with the previous TLCS for enhancement of efficiency which is related to computer memory and computing time. The present study focuses on the implementation of the MLSC on the direct time response analysis and the frequency response analysis of structural dynamic problems. For the transient time response analysis, the MLSC is combined with the Newmark's time integration scheme. Numerical examples demonstrate the efficiency of the proposed method.

To gain insight into the wind-induced safety concerns associated with attached tower cranes during the construction of super-tall buildings, a 606 m level frame-core tube super-tall building is selected to investigate the wind-induced vibration response and fragility of an outer-attached tower crane at all stages of construction. The wind velocity time history samples are artificially generated and used to perform dynamic response analyses of the crane to observe the effects of wind velocity and wind direction under its working and non-working resting state. The adverse effects of the relative displacement response at different connection supports are also identified. The wind-resistant fragility curves of the crane are obtained by introducing the concept of incremental dynamic analysis. The results from the investigation indicate that a large relative displacement between the supports can substantially amplify the response of the crane at high levels. Such an effect becomes more serious when the lifting arm is perpendicular to the plane of the connection supports. The flexibility of super-tall buildings should be considered in the design of outer-attached tower cranes, especially for anchorage systems. Fragility analysis can be used to specify the maximum appropriate height of the tower crane for each performance level.
This paper investigates the seismic response of lightweight acceleration-sensitive non-structural components (NSCs) mounted on irregular reinforced concrete (RC) primary structures (P-structures) using non-linear dynamic finite element (FE) analysis. The aim of this paper is to study the influence of NSC to P-structure vibration period ratio, peak ground acceleration, NSC to P-structure height ratio, and P-structure torsional behaviour on the seismic response of the NSCs. Representative constitutive models were used to simulate the behaviour of the RC P-structures. The NSCs were modelled as vertical cantilevers fixed at their bases with masses on the free ends and varying lengths so as to match the frequencies of the P-structures. Full dynamic interaction is considered between the NSCs and P-structures. A set of 21 natural and artificial earthquake records were used to evaluate the seismic response of the NSCs. The numerical results indicate that the behaviour of the NSCs is significantly influenced by the investigated parameters. Comparison between the FE results and Eurocode (EC8) predictions suggests that EC8 underestimates the response of NSCs mounted on the flexible sides of irregular RC P-structures when the fundamental periods and heights of the NSCs match those of the P-structures. The perceived cause of this discrepancy is that EC8 does not take into account the amplification in the dynamic response of NSCs induced by the torsional behaviour of RC P-structures.
