A roller rig has been widely used in the study about dynamic stability and railway safety. However, the cost for constructing the roller rig and the difficulty in adjusting the design parameters for vehicle systems lead to the development of a small scale simulator which is cheaper than the large scale test systems and easy to control the parameters affecting dynamic characteristics of the railway vehicle. For the operation of the small scale test system called a small scale simulator, it is required to investigate the performance and characteristics of the system. This could be achieved by a comparative study between an analysis and an experiment. This paper presented the analytical model which could be used for verifying of the test results and understanding of the physical behavior of the dynamic system comprising the small scale bogie and the simulator.
In this paper, a blackbox approach is carried out to model the nonlinear dynamic bushing model. One-axis durability test is performed to describe the mechanical behavior of typical vehicle elastomeric components. The results of the tests are used to develop an empirical bushing model with an artificial neural network. The back propagation algorithm is used to obtain the weighting factor of the neural network. Since the output for a dynamic system depends on the histories of inputs and outputs, Narendra's algorithm of ‘NARMAX’ form is employed in the neural network bushing module. A numerical example is carried out to verify the developed bushing model.
In this paper, we present simulation results of Dynamic Matrix Control(DMC) to a boiler steam temperature. In order to control of steam temperature, we choose the input-output variables and generate the step response model by each input variable's step test. After that, the control structure executes on-line control with optimization using step response model. Proposed controller is applied to the APESS(Doosan company's boiler model simulator) and it is observed that the simulation results show satisfactory performance of proposed control.
The need for assessing dynamic response of typical industrial piping systems subjected to seismic loading motivated the authors to apply model reduction techniques to experimental dynamic substructuring. Initially, a better insight into the dynamic response of the emulated system was provided by means of the principal component analysis. The clear understanding of reduction basis requirements paved the way for the implementation of a number of model reduction techniques aimed at extending the applicability range of the hybrid testing technique beyond its traditional scope. Therefore, several hybrid simulations were performed on a typical full-scale industrial piping system endowed with a number of critical components, like elbows, Tee joints and bolted flange joints, ranging from operational to collapse limit states. Then, the favourable performance of the L-Stable Real-Time compatible time integrator and an effective delay compensation method were also checked throughout the testing campaign. Finally, several aspects of the piping performance were commented and conclusions drawn.
A motor-integrated high-speed spindle system with .psi. 65*25, 000rpm is modeled for analytical and experimental studies related to the dynamic characteristics. And the systematic and rational identification processes for evaluating the material properties of spindle and built-in motor is introduced. The impulse excitation method is applied for the experimental model testing, and the dynamic characteristics of test model is theoretically analysed by using the finite element method based on Timoshenko theory. Especially, the experimental and theoetical results reveal that the test model under the required operational conditions has no critical problem for dynamic characteristics.
PURPOSES : The dynamic modulus can be determined by applying the various theories from the Impact Resonance Testing(IRT) Method. The objective of this paper is to determine the best theory to produce the dynamic modulus that has the lowest error as the dynamic modulus data obtained from these theories(Complex Wave equation Resonance Method related to either the transmissibility loss or not, Dynamic Stiffness Resonance Method) compared to the results for dynamic modulus determined by using the Universal Testing Machine. The ultimate object is to develop the predictive model for the dynamic modulus of a Linear Visco-Elastic specimen by using the Complex Wave equation Resonance Method(CWRM) came up for an existing study(S. O. Oyadiji; 1985) and the Optimization. METHODS : At the destructive test which uses the Universal Testing Machine, the dynamic modulus results along with the frequency can be used for determining the sigmoidal master curve function related to the reduced frequency by applying Time-Temperature Superposition Principle. RESULTS : The constant to be solved from Eq. (11) is a value of 14.13. The reduced dynamic modulus obtained from the IRT considering the loss factor related to the impact transmissibility has RMSE of 367.7MPa, MPE of 3.7%. When the predictive dynamic modulus model was applied to determine the master curve, the predictive model has RMSE of 583.5MPa, MPE of 3.5% compared to the destructive test results for the dynamic modulus. CONCLUSIONS : Because we considered that the results obtained from the destructive test had the most highest source credibility in this study, the dynamic modulus data obtained respectively from DSRM, CWRM were compared to the results obtained from the destructive test by using th IRT. At the result, the reduced dynamic modulus derived from DSRM has the most lowest error.
The analysis of static and dynamic characteristics of reinforced roadbed materials was performed through model and laboratory tests. The strength characteristic of reinforced roadbed materials such as HMS-25 and soil were investigated through the unconfined axial compression test, the model soil box test and the combined resonant column and torsional shear test. The unconfined axial compression strength of HMS-25 shows a steady increasement in strength due to the chemical hardening reaction between HMS-25 and water. The result of model soil box test reveals that railroad roadbed of HMS-25 is better than that of soil in several aspects, such as, bearing capacity and settlement. The combined resonant column and torsional shear test result indicates that shear modulus of HMS-25 and soil increase with the power of 0.5 to the confining pressure and linear relationship to normalized shear modulus and damping ratio.
A new inflow turbulence generation method and a combined dynamic SGS model recently developed by the authors were applied to evaluate the wind effects on 508 m high Taipei 101 Tower. Unlike the majority of the past studies on large eddy simulation (LES) of wind effects on tall buildings, the present numerical simulations were conducted for the full-scale tall building with Reynolds number greater than $10^8$. The inflow turbulent flow field was generated based on the new method called discretizing and synthesizing of random flow generation technique (DSRFG) with a prominent feature that the generated wind velocity fluctuations satisfy any target spectrum and target profiles of turbulence intensity and turbulence integral length scale. The new dynamic SGS model takes both advantages of one-equation SGS model and a dynamic production term without test-filtering operation, which is particular suitable to relative coarse grid situations and high Reynolds number flows. The results of comparative investigations with and without generation of inflow turbulence show that: (1) proper simulation of an inflow turbulent field is essential in accurate evaluation of dynamic wind loads on a tall building and the prescribed inflow turbulence characteristics can be adequately imposed on the inflow boundary by the DSRFG method; (2) the DSRFG can generate a large number of random vortex-like patterns in oncoming flow, leading to good agreements of both mean and dynamic forces with wind tunnel test results; (3) The dynamic mechanism of the adopted SGS model behaves adequately in the present LES and its integration with the DSRFG technique can provide satisfactory predictions of the wind effects on the super-tall building.
Quadrotor is widely used in variable application nowadays. Due to its inherent unstable characteristics, control system to augment the stability is essential for quadrotor operation. To design control system and verify its performance through simulation, accurate dynamic model is required. Quadrotor dynamic model is simply compared with conventional rotorcraft such as helicopter. However, the accurate dynamic model of quadrotor is not easy to develop because of the highly correlated aerodynamic effect of each rotor. In this paper, quadrotor dynamic model is identified from the flight data using frequency domain approach. Flight test of quadrotor is performed in closed loop configuration with stability augmentation system included. Frequency sweep input is applied in each of lateral, longitudinal, yaw and heave axis separately. The bare dynamic model is identified from the flight data of quadrotor responses and thrust measurement through Pulse Width Modulation(PWM) data. The frequency responses of identified model match well with those of flight data, and time responses of identified model for doublet input in each axis are also shown to agree with flight data.
The objective of this study is to understand the dynamic characterictics of OHV type valve trains and to design and optimal cam profile which will improve engine performance. A numerical model for valve train dynamics is presented, which aims at both accuracy and computational efficiency. The lumped mass model and distributed parameter model were used to describe the valve train dynamics. Nonlinear characterictics in the valve spring behavior were included in the model. Comprehensive experiments were carried out concerning the valve train dynamics, and the model was tuned based on the test results. The dynamic model was used in designing an optimal cam profile. Because the objective function has many local minima, a conventional local optimizer cannot be used to find an optimal solution. A modified adaptive random search method is successfully employed to solve the problem. Cam lobe area could be increased up to 7.3% without any penalties in kinematic and dynamic behaviors of the valve train.
