  • Geometric imperfections may be created during the production process or setting borders of single-layer graphene sheets (SLGSs). Vacancy defects are an instance of geometric imperfection, so investigating the effect of these vacancies on the mechanical properties of single-layer graphene is extremely important. Since very few studies have been conducted on the structure of imperfect graphene (with the vacancy defect) as an anisotropic structure, further study of this defective structure seems imperative. Due to the vacancy defects and for the proper assessment of mechanical properties, the graphene structure should be considered anisotropic in certain states. The present study investigates the effects of site and size of vacancy defects on the mechanical properties of graphene as an anisotropic structure using the lekhnitskii interaction coefficients and Molecular Dynamic approach. The effect of temperature on the severity of the SLGS becoming anisotropic is also investigated in this study. The results reveal that the amount of temperature has a big effect on the severity of the structure getting anisotropic even for a graphene without any defects. The effect of aspect ratio, temperature and also size and site of vacancy defects on the material properties of the graphene are studied in this research work. According to the present study, using material properties of flawless graphene for imperfect structure can lead to inaccurate results.

  • Mechanical properties of the materials used for transportations and industrial machinery under high strain rate loading conditions such as seismic loading are required to provide appropriate safety assessment to these mechanical structures. The Split Hopkinson Pressure Bar (SHPB) technique with a special experimental apparatus can be used to obtain the material behavior under high strain rate loading conditions. In this paper, dynamic deformation behaviors of the aluminum alloys such as A12024-T4, A1606 IT-6 and A17075-T6 under both high strain rate compressive and tensile loading conditions are determined using the SHPB technique.

  • In the present study, natural fibers (jute, kenaf and henequen) reinforced thermoplastic (poly(lactic acid) and polypropylene) and thermosetting (unsaturated polyester) matrix composites were well fabricated by a compression molding technique using all chopped natural fibers of about 10 mm long, respectively. Prior to green composite fabrication, natural fiber bundles were surface-treated with tap water by static soaking and dynamic ultrasonication methods, respectively. The interfacial shear strength, flexural properties, and dynamic mechanical properties of each green composite system were investigated by means of single fiber microbonding test, 3-point flexural test, and dynamic mechanical analysis, respectively. The result indicated that the properties of the polymeric resins were significantly improved by incorporating the natural fibers into the resin matrix and also the properties of untreated green composites were further improved by the water treatment done to the natural fibers used. Also, the property improvement of natural fiber-reinforced green composites strongly depended on the treatment method. The interfacial and mechanical results agreed with each other.

  • Although rubber components are extensively used in mechanic parts. There are still a lot of difficulties in designing the rubber components applied in complex shapes and preloaded states because of the complicated material properties. One of the most important parameters for more detailed and accurate mechanical analysis during the development stages is the dynamic characteristics of the rubber components. It is well known that the dynamic properties of rubber are dependent on frequency as well as static preload. Consequently, a large number of experiments have to be conducted to identify the dynamic stiffness of a rubber bush considering the various applied conditions. In this paper, an efficient experimental method is suggested, which estimates the dynamic stiffness of a rubber bush using rubber material test and static stiffness of the bush. This method is capable of predicting the dynamic stiffness of a rubber bush under various load conditions from minimized test data.

  • The dynamic behavior of a complex mechanical structure can be identified by dividing the structure into a series of smaller structure, called sub- structure and by studying the dynamic characteristics of these components. Generally, the dynamic characteristics of mechanical structure are strongly affected by the properties of joint parameters. In this paper, to identify the dynamic characteristics of mechanical structure, and experimental identification method in which directrly measured frequency response function(FRF) is used is considered. The method does not use the procedure of complex matrix calculation but use that of real matrix calculation. To confirm this method, computer simulation is performed by using frequency response function mixed with noise, and the experimental study is performed about the simple structure. The dynamic characteristics of joint parameters and identified more accurately than in using the prcedure of complex matrix calculation.

  • INCONEL 718, nickel based superalloy, has good formability, high strength, excellent corrosion resistance and mechanical properties at high temperature. Owing to theses attractive properties, it finds use in applications such as combustion system, turbine engines and nuclear reactors. In such applications, components are typically required to be tolerant of high stress impact loading. This may cause material degradation and lead to catastrophic failure during service operation. In order to design optimal structural parts made of INCONEL 718, accurate understanding of material's mechanical properties, dynamic behavior and fracture characteristic as a function of strain rates are required. This paper concerned with the dynamic material properties of the INCONEL 718 for the various strain rates. The dynamic response of the INCONEL 718 at intermediate strain rate is obtained from the high speed tensile test machine test and at the high strain rate is from the split Hopkinson pressure bar test. Based on the experimental results, the effects of strain rate on dynamic flow stress, work hardening characteristics, strain rate sensitivity and elongation to the failure are evaluated. Experimental results from both quasi-static and high strain rate up to the 5000/sec are interpolated in order to construct the Johnson-Cook model as the constitutive relation that should be applied to simulate and design the structural parts made of INCONEL 718.

  • In this paper, we propose a method for taking into account uncertainties based on the projection on polynomial chaos. Due to the manufacturing and assembly errors, uncertainties in material and geometric properties, the system parameters including assembly defect, damping coefficients, bending stiffness and traction-compression stiffness are uncertain. The proposed method is used to determine the dynamic response of a one-stage spur gear system with uncertainty associated to gear system parameters. An analysis of the effect of these parameters on the one stage gear system dynamic behavior is then treated. The simulation results are obtained by the polynomial chaos method for dynamic analysis under uncertainty. The proposed method is an efficient probabilistic tool for uncertainty propagation. The polynomial chaos results are compared with Monte Carlo simulations.

  • The surface treatment effects of reinforcement filler were investigated based on the dynamic mechanical properties of mutiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs)/epoxy composites. The as-received MWCNTs(R-MWCNTs) were chemically modified by direct oxyfluorination method to improve the dispersibility and adhesiveness with epoxy resins in composite system. In order to investigate the induced functional groups on MWCNTs during oxyfluorination, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy was used. The thermo-mechanical property of MWCNTs/epoxy composite was also measured based on effects of oxyfluorination treatment of MWCNTs. The storage modulus of MWCNTs/epoxy composite was enhanced about 1.27 times through oxyfluorination of MWCNTs fillers at $25^{\circ}C$. The storage modulus of oxyfluorinated MWCNTs (OF73-MWCNTs) reinforced epoxy composite was much higher than that of R-MWCNTs/epoxy composite. It revealed that oxygen content led to the efficient carbon-fluorine covalent bonding during oxyfluorination. These functional groups on surface modified MWCNTs induced by oxyfluorination strikingly made an important role for the reinforced epoxy composite.
